This week’s choice is brutal. BRUTAL. There is not one, but two books from favorite authors this week. I went back and forth between Nalini Singh‘s Archangel’s Blade, and Christine Feehan‘s Dark Predator. Back and forth, back and forth. But both of them are huge already, so I went off the beaten path and picked a completely different book. Huh.
G.A. Aiken (aka Shelly Laurentson) also released a new book this week with The Dragon Who Loved Me. I got this one over a week ago from the Book Depository, and decided to give it a browse. Seven o’clock the next morning and I was still reading. This one was great…funny, a ton of action, and while some issues were resolved, a bunch of new ones cropped up. There is still a world of stories to be told in the Dragon Kin series.
I was raised for battle. And as the first daughter of a warrior family, I’ve earned my reputation the hard way. Yet now I fight alongside uncivilized male Northland dragons who think a female is only good for breeding and waiting back home in the cave. But it’s the foolish and foolhardy who would try to stop me, Rhona the Fearless, from doing what I do best—destroying the enemies of my kind.
So the smartest thing wily barbarian Vigholf the Abhorrent can do for me is stay out of my way as we risk all on a deadly mission in enemy territory. I don’t care if he’s fascinated by me, even though he is as attractive as he is resourceful. He’s having far too much fun putting me in difficult situations and testing my sense of duty to the limit. And I’m going to enjoy challenging his insufferable confidence, outwitting his schemes, and making him surrender in the wildest ways…I was raised for battle. There is one thing, though. If there was ever, ever a series that needs a character guide, it is this one. With the Viking sounding names, extended families, and ton of characters, I had a bugger of a time trying to keep everyone straight. It didn’t slow down my enjoyment of the story, but I do have the feeling that I might have missed a couple of inside jokes by not remembering things from past books. In a perfect world, it would be done before the next book comes out…

That is/was a hard choice. I love Nalini Singh and Shelly Laurentson/G.A. Aiken! I really can’t get enough of either these authors but I think I will go with “The Dragon Who Loved Me” first and then “Archangel’s Blade”. I agree with you about needing a character guide for the Dragon Kin series, I read Supernatural this weekend and it took me a while to place and connect the names in her story.
And the names are so…confusing. There were so many that ended with “dana” that I did sort of give up keeping track of the secondary characters. Except Eibhear.
OK, I must be in the minority since I did not see it as a hard choice
I love the Dragon Kin series ever since I picked up book 1 and it never disappoints. They are so entertaining that they can make a good day from a bad one . Book 3 was the best so far even with the few horrible moments (if you read it you know what I mean) that worked out. One of the most entertaining series I ever read and I have read a ton of them.
