Pick of the Week

For my pick of the week, I usually do try and choose one that is not already on pretty much everyone’s radar already.  Honest.  But sometimes, you just can’t help it.  This is one of those weeks, since anytime Ilona Andrews releases a new book it is an automatic pick.  Some are considering Gunmetal Magic to be Kate Daniels #5.5, some are calling it Kate Daniels World #1.  I have been referring to it as Andrea Nash #1, for ease of keeping the titles straight.  From what I understand, there is the potential for at least one more book featuring Andrea and Raphael.  Yay.  On a sad note, Ilona Andrews and family also had to have their little cat put to sleep yesterday, which as any animal lover knows is awful.  Not a great mood to be in to start working on Kate #6, but that is how things work out sometimes.

Synopsis…

Some people have everything figured out – Andrea Nash is not one of those people. After being kicked out of the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, Andrea’s whole existence is in shambles. All she can do is try to put herself back together, something made easier by working for Cutting Edge, a small investigative firm owned by her best friend, Kate Daniels.

When several shapeshifters working for Raphael Medrano – the male alpha of Clan Bouda and Andrea’s former lover – die unexpectedly at a dig site, Andrea is assigned to investigate … and must work with Raphael. As her search for the killer leads her into the secret underbelly of supernatural Atlanta, Andrea knows that dealing with her feelings for Raphael might have to take a backseat to saving the world …

  1. Read Gunmetal Magic as an ARC and it was amazingly good (does Ilona Andrews ever write anything that isn’t great?) but I just finished The Lady is a Vamp by Lynsay Sands and it was possibly the best of the last 3 or 4 in the series. Since I tend to enjoy them all thats hard to really say with conviction :)

    • Well, at least it is a bonus to like too many rather than none at all. I have been hitting the young adult TBR pile, and I can say I have enjoyed them all. Bonus.

  2. I’m still waiting for The Book Depository to ship Gunmetal Magic out :( I know I have plenty of other books to read while I wait, but I want it in my possession! haha! Currently reading “Thirteen” (Kelley Armstrong). I’m sad this series has come to an end :(

    • Mine shipped out on Friday, so looks like I will only be getting into it next week. I want mine, too. Now. Immediately. Like the TBR mountain isn’t waving at me as I type, but I still want.

Did you at least get a good wrap up for the Otherworld series? Nothing worse than being left hanging.

      • I know, right?! :-) I’m right in the middle of the book, so we’ll see about the ending. I am enjoying it though so far!

      • Still, it is hard to say goodbye to a series, even though there are tons to take its place. I have been lucky that a favorite hasn’t ended yet, but that could be ugly when it does finally happen.
