I admit it. I am the last person on the planet (well, probably the last person on this site) who hasn’t read Karen Marie Moning‘s Fever series. I have meant to. Promised to. Hell, I even made it a New Year’s resolution. I bought the first book three times (hardcover, paperback, gave the hardcover away and bought the hardcover again) and the next four twice (softcover then hardcover), so you know I mean business. And might I mention that the first few were a bugger to track down in hardcover? I ended up taking my chances on ebay, and since I don’t do used books I was very hesitant. Turns out I got all four first books, in perfect shape, for 15 bucks total. Score. Well, tomorrow night I start on book one, Darkfever. I am determined to get the series done in time for Iced at the end of October.
Well, I was having trouble figuring out quite what to make of Iced. Young adult or adult? Separate series or spin off? I thought that my confusion came from not having read Mac and Barrons, but turns out I was not alone. So, I was mighty pleased to find some definitive answers over on Karen Marie Moning’s Facebook page. Here are a few highlights…
- They are NOT young adult. They are adult books featuring a teenage protagonist, from what I gather.
- Dani’s character starts off at age 14, and progresses to age 17.
- Iced is neither a new series nor a spin-off series. It is being considered book 6 of the Fever series, just told from a different point of view.
- While Dani is the main voice, there are other first person points of view used, as well.
- Burned and Flayed are Fever 7 and 8, also from mainly Dani’s point of view.
- Books 9 and 10 will return to Mac and Barrons, and be from Mac’s point of view. Mostly.
Any other Fever world Noobies like me? Who else is planning a mini-marathon to get ready for Iced?

I am sorry to say that I didn’t enjoy this series. It was this series that let me know that I preferred PNR to UF. The cliff hangers in this book were the most extreme ones that I had encountered when I read the books. I don’t see the big deal about jericho Barrons.
But lots of my friends love him and love the series.
Please let me know what you think. I actually liked Dani more than I liked Mac. But i will not pick up any KMM books until she finishes the series. I learned that I don’t like those huge cliff hangers–I’m not patient enough.
Waiting on BDB is bad enough, I can’t add another series to that
Having one to wait on is bad enough, especially since both series don’t come out with more than one book a year. Just too long to wait.
I haven’t read the Fever series either, but I was planning to at some point. I think I’ve seen Iced floating around as a spin-off YA series on some YA review sites, thanks for clearing that up!
No problem, that was what I had heard, too. Seems strange there was so little info about such a potentially big series, though.
You’re not the only who hasn’t read it yet. Well, I’ve read the first book so far anyways. I’ve been meaning to catch-up with this series as well. Oh, btw this isn’t a spin-off series. Iced is in fact book 6 in the Fever series. Here’s a link from Fiction Vixen Book Reviews telling more about this book and what’s to come of the series… http://www.fictionvixen.com/news-from-karen-marie-moning-iced-and-argh-ye-mateys/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+FictionVixen+%28Fiction+Vixen+Book+Reviews%29
I think there are going to be quite a few playing catch up for the next month or so.
I was also unaware that Iced was Fever 6 and that the series will eventually return to Mac as the lead POV. I am wondering how well Iced will sell though, I know that there are a lot of Fever fans, but I think there are also a lot of readers like me who remember Moning as the Queen of the Cliffhanger and will wait too see if that trend continues in the next couple books.
She did say that there were no cliffhangers in Iced and the two following, so that is a bonus.
Don’t worry I’ve only read book one (when it first came out) I keep meaning to go back and read the whole series . . . but well you know. ^_-
Too many books, too little time. Yep.
I just started reading this series this week. I’m half way through the 1st book. I tried reading this book years ago and I couldn’t get into it. I think it was because I tried before I became a fan of UF. I’m more of a PNR kind of girl, but I can appreciate a good UF book. I’m liking the Fever series so far.
I am like you – I wouldn’t touch UF with a pole before I hit Mercy Thompson, Kate Daniels, Kat and Bones, Guild Hunter, etc. At least now I can give this series a chance.
I was lucky and didnt start reading the series until after the last book was published. Thank God. I think I flew through them in like a week. I loved them, and can’t wait for Iced. This was my first trip from PNR to UF, and it lead me to the likes of Kate Daniels and the others. I know on KMM facebook page they are reading one book a week until it comes out. So I am going to do a re-read! Hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
Thanks, Shannon. I have high hopes for them, too. I did it backwards – I did Kate Daniels and the rest first, which led me to these. I need to get my butt in gear, though.
