I am pretty sure most of you have already heard this, but Jeaniene Frost has announced that the upcoming January Cat and Bones book, Up From the Grave, will be the last. According to the original schedule, there was to be one more book, but as Jeaniene has explained the storyline was wrapping up, and she had to chose between adding a bunch of filler to extend the story, or wrapping it up early. She chose to go out with a solid, complete story.
That had to be a tough decision, and Jeaniene goes into some detail at her blog (you can read the entire thing HERE) about the whole process of saying goodbye to something that has been a huge part of her life for over 10 years. As hard has it is for readers to hear “The End”, it has to be even more difficult for the author. I can’t imagine letting go.
On a personal note, I quite respect the decision. Will I miss the books? Yep. Do I want to see a great series drag on longer than it should (where so many others do)? No. I would love to see the world continue, though, since I won’t feel like things are wrapped up until Ian gets his story told. After Vlad and Leila’s third book their arc will be done, Mencheres and Spade had their turn, but Ian is still the missing piece. He needs his HEA, and the Night Huntress World won’t be complete for me without it.
What do you think? Do you respect the decision to end it early, or were you counting on one more? Are you holding on for Ian’s story, or can you consider it done after the third Vlad book?
