Every day for the last few weeks, I have been faithfully checking Kresley Cole‘s Facebook page to see if she had upped the cover for the second Arcana Chronicles book, Endless Knight. Well, today was the day – and the best I can say is…huh. It looks strange somehow – dude’s head seems badly pasted on, and it seems rather bare. I am still looking forward to getting my hands on it when it is released on October 1st, but not for the cover. I did totally call that it was going to be blue, though.

Cover Lover – 8 New Titles
So, in the process of updating the 2013 New Releases, I came across a few new covers (or rather, some that have been out for a while and I just didn’t notice). This crew runs the gamut from not bad to not great, with a couple that I really liked.
This first one is actually the mass market paperback version of the cover for Shelly Laurenston‘s Big Bad Beast, which will be released on October 29th.
Sharon Page‘s Blood series continues with the release of Blood Curse on October 29th. The covers for this series definitely have kept the same feel going, but they aren’t something that would make me want to grab them off the shelf.
Everlasting Enchantment from Kathryne Kennedy, part of her Relics of Merlin series, will be released on December 3rd.
I admit I haven’t ready any of the Dark Ink Chronicles books from Elle Jasper, but I do love the covers. Darklove will be released on December 3rd.
This next one is from Ashlyn Chase. How to Date a Dragon is due out on September 3rd. I do like this one, but it could use more detail. To me, it looks a bit unfinished, and a blurb or tagline on the top would’ve done wonders.
Now these next three are all young adult. I thought that the cover for Never Fade, from Alexandra Bracken, was a beauty. I love covers that step away from the normal character shot and use a symbol instead. Look for Never Fade in hardcover on October 15th.
P.C. and Kristin Cast continue their House of Night series with the release of Revealed on October 15th.
And this final one is from Natalie J. Damschroder. Sunroper is the third book in her Goddesses Rising trilogy, due out on December 31st.
Any clear winners or losers for you? I loved Never Fade, it has made me want to grab both it and the first book in the Darkest Minds series, and Darklove is great, too. What surprised me was the total change in style for Sunroper – it gives me a very YA vibe, which it isn’t at all. I like it, but it just didn’t seem to fit what I know of the series.
Cover Lover – The Runaway Queen
Now, count me surprised. I was pretty sure that all of the e-novellas in Cassandra Clare‘s Bane Chronicles were going to have the same cover with just a different title slapped on the front.
Nope.
Looks like each installment might be getting its very own cover treatment, which is great. Story number two is called The Runaway Queen, and it will be released on May 21st.
Oh, and over on Page to Premier, there is a very small snippet from the upcoming sixth and final (?) Mortal Instruments book, City of Heavenly Fire. It looks like the lead characters from the upcoming Dark Artifices series are introduced in this one, which makes total sense.
Cover Lover – The Spider
Just a quick little post on my way out the door (working sucks). Romantic Times magazine had the exclusive reveal of the cover for the next book of Jennifer Estep‘s Elemental Assassin series, The Spider, which is due out on December 31st. This series, right down to the novellas, has some of the consistently best covers going. I wish all books looked as good as these ones do.
Cover Lover – 8 New Titles
This is a bit of a different Cover Lover post. All three of the covers from the upcoming The Baskerville Affair from Emma Jane Holloway have been made public. Book one will be called A Study in Silks, and it will be released on September 24th.
It will be followed bybook two, called A Study in Darkness, on October 29th.
And will wrap up on November 26th with the release of A Study in Ashes.
And Lynn Viehl also has a double-header posting today. The first two covers from her upcoming Disenchanted & Co. e-book series have been released. Her Ladyship’s Curse will be released on August 12th.
And it will be followed by His Lordship Possessed on October 14th.
Rebecca Zanetti starts a new e-series this July with the release of Forgotten Sins. This one gives me a Ghostwalkers vibe, with soldiers enhanced with special abilities.
The fourth book from Kristen Callihan‘s Darkest London series, Shadowdance, will be released on December 17th.
And the final cover for today’s post comes from Tessa Adams and her Lone Star Witch series. Flamebound will be released on December 3rd.
This and That…Movie Edition
There seems to be a lot going on in the PNR/UF movie side of things in the last couple of days, both good and bad. This is just a quick round-up of what I have been seeing lately…
Well, first off, the big cover reveal for Veronica Roth‘s third Divergent book, Allegiant, took place this morning. Much hoopla was involved. Also Ryan Seacrest. That one still makes me shake my head, but dude looks like he would go to the opening of an envelope if it bought him some attention. Anyways, Allegiant will look like so when it hits the shelves on October 22nd.
Also from the Divergent-verse, it seems that things are looking like a go for the sequel, Insurgent. A screenwriter has been chosen, and things are progressing. With the amount of hype surrounding pretty much every aspect of this series, I am not surprised, but it is still good to get confirmation. I actually got excited when I saw a picture that included Theo James‘ (Four’s) forehead. In my defense, there is also an ear. Nerd.
Aaand, it seems that there being a second Mortal Instruments movie is a sure thing, since City of Ashes has just been greenlit. The director of the first movie, Harold Zwart, will be returning, and production will start this fall. Yes! My fear is always that the studios go into these movies with half a commitment, and take a wait and see attitude (for example, will there be a second Beautiful Creatures movie? Never heard anything more). At least this shows faith in the product. Nice.
Filming starts for the Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters at the end of this month. All of the stars are in rigorous training right now to get into fighting shape, and author Richelle Mead has been very pleased with what she has seen so far. According to a chat she recently did, she said that all of the important stuff from the books has made the translation to the script, and that things are looking good. Olga Kurylenko has just been cast as Headmistress Kirova – I did picture the Kirova as an old hag, not a Bond Girl, but that could work, too.
It seems, on a less positive note, that Fox has passed on the Delirium pilot starring Emma Roberts. Based on the Lauren Oliver trilogy of the same name, the cast had been very active trying to drum up fan support, but it was still not enough to get Fox to bite.
The Selection from Keira Cass seems to be up in the air, too. The first pilot was passed on last season by the CW, but it was given a second chance with a new cast and new focus. And that new focus is way, way heavy on the sex/intrigue. According to an article in The Examiner…
The Hunger Games influence is still very very strong in this show — but they’ve given it a heavy injection of Game of Thrones as well. There’s a lot of sex and raunchiness, even by The CW’s standards, and tons and tons of cynicism. Everybody is plotting against everybody else, everybody is making alliances and cutting deals and nobody trusts anybody. Mostly it’s a chance to see Tony Head play a king again, so soon after Merlin.
Kiera Cass stated herself in a Tweet that it is everything the article stated – and more – and that the way things are going, an R rating wouldn’t be strong enough. Huh. Didn’t see that coming.
And finally, the trailer for the upcoming Ender’s Game has been making the rounds. Now, I have to admit, I know nothing about this. It wasn’t even on my radar, but I have seen much love directed its way on the other blogs, so I thought the least I could do was post the trailer.
Cover Lover – 6 New Titles
In doing my usual cover hunt, I came across 6 more to post. Oh, and for any that haven’t heard, the big cover reveal for Veronica Roth‘s third Divergent book, Allegiant, will be done on May 9th – on the Today Show. With Ryan Seacrest. Huh.
This first cover is from Christina Henry and her Black Wings series. Black Heart will be released on October 29th.
I am not sure about this one. I enjoy Dani Harper‘s Wolf Shifter series, and I am looking forward to trying both of the new series she is starting up this fall. But this cover for the first book in the Grim series is a bit different. Not sure about the giant Mastiff or the funky tattoo, but I will be grabbing Storm Warrior when it is released on August 6th.
The third and final book in Marie Lu‘s very popular Legend series, Champion, will be released on November 5th.
Sophie Jordan starts a new series next March called Uninvited. The first book, also called Uninvited, features a heroine who loses everything when she is found to carry the gene that will one day make her a killer.
The credit for finding these next two goes to Aurora B., who emailed them to me today. Hell Bent is the much anticipated first book of Devon Monk‘s Allie Beckstrom spin-off series, Broken Magic, which will be released on November 5th.
And finally for today is Lauren Dane‘s Wild Darkness, the Bound by Magick book which is due out on November 5th.
Cover Lover – 6 New Titles
Still playing around with the new theme (God, I hate choosing fonts with an endless passion). I just have to figure out how to turn the link hover color to blue. Maybe. I took a break from playing with the site to find 6 new covers (or new to me, as it were).
From what I understand, Nancy Gideon‘s Moonlight series is now strictly released in e-format, so this is the digital cover for the 8th title, Prince of Shadows, which is released on May 27th.
This second cover is also for a digital release. Here There Be Monsters is part of Meljean Brooks‘ Iron Seas series, and it was first released in the Burning Up anthology in 2010. It will be re-released in e-format this October.
Desert Tales from Melissa Marr is set in the same world as her YA Wicked Lovely series, but I am not really sure how closely it is connected. It will be released on October 8th.
Tammy Falkner‘s third Faerie book, The Magic Between Us, will be released on January 7th of next year. I really thought these were historical romance – until I saw the series title. Who knew?
Zoe Archer‘s second Nemesis Unlimited book has a cover and a release date. Dangerous Seduction will be out on November 26th.
And finally, this one could’ve been posted quite a while ago – if only I had realized that it was paranormal. For some reason, I really thought that these Shiloh Walker‘s books were straight romantic suspense, but it turns out there is a PNR element to them, too. So, this one is the cover for the fourth book in the FBI Psychics series, The Protected, which is due out on September 3rd.
Up From the Grave Cover and Step Back…
Over on Jeaniene Frost‘s website, the cover, step-back and blurb have been posted for her upcoming Cat and Bones book, Up From the Grave. Always looking forward to one of these, and it looks like it will be available on January 28th.
Cover Blurb…
There’s always one more grave to dig.
Lately, life has been unnaturally calm for vampires Cat Crawfield and her husband Bones. They should have known better than to relax their guard, because a shocking revelation sends them back into action to stop an all-out war…
A rogue CIA agent is involved in horrifying secret activities that threaten to raise tensions between humans and the undead to dangerous heights. Now Cat and Bones are in a race against time to save their friends from a fate worse than death…because the more secrets they unravel, the deadlier the consequences. And if they fail, their lives—and those of everyone they hold dear— will be hovering on the edge of the grave.
Cover Lover – 4 New Titles
Just a couple of quick mentions before I get to the covers. I wanted first to thank the gals at All Things Urban Fantasy for inviting me to be a part of their Cover Art Coverage post this week. It was fun to have someone else do all the hunting and posting and just throw in my two cents, for what they were worth. Also, my updating of the release dates for 2013 will be complete tomorrow night, so if there were any books you had your heart set on you might want to check and see if the release dates changed. There were a few that were pushed back, and a few disappeared entirely (like Kresley Cole‘s second Dacians book).
On to the covers. I am a bit lazy tonight, so looks like it will be only four for this post. This first one is from author Jaime Rush, and it is the prequel novella for her new series starting up later this year called The Hidden. The novella is called Dragon Mine, and it will be released on June 4th.
This second one is from Dani Harper. She is starting a couple of new series this year (and then returning to her Changeling series), and this cover is for First Bite. It kicks off her Dark Wolf series, and it will be released on October 15th.
Number three caught my eye right away, and is my favorite of the group. The second book of Amy Raby‘s new Hearts and Thrones series, Spy’s Honor, will be released on October 1st.
And finally for tonight is the cover for Shadow’s Curse, the second book in Alexa Egan‘s Imnada Brotherhood series, which will be out on September 24th.
