Cover Lover – 9 New Titles

It looks like the covers are starting to come out again heading into the new year, which is great. Scary that this year is almost a wrap, though. Let’s start this batch with some art from upcoming new series. Katie MacAlister‘s Dragon Fall will be the first book of the Dragon Fall series, and it is due for release on July 28th.

dragon fallYOU FLIRT WITH FIRE…

Now thrust into a fantastical world that’s both exhilarating and terrifying, Aoife is about to learn just how hot a dragon’s fire burns.

WHEN YOU DATE A DRAGON

Her name is Robin, and her secrets are more than enough to get them both killed. A plague has come, the fullborn-fae are dying, and the dark answer to Summer’s Court is breaking loose.

Jennifer Estep‘s next Elemental Assassin book will be called Spider’s Trap, and it will be out on July 28th.

spider's trapKeep your friends close but your enemies within stabbing distance.

But I suppose that’s the price of victory for taking down some of the underworld’s top dogs. Good thing I have my Ice and Stone magic to help me survive my volatile new position. Just when I think things are finally settling down, someone tries to murder me during a hush-hush underworld meeting. But the real surprise is how strangely familiar my shadowy assailant seems to be.

For some reason, I had thought I had heard that Jessica Sims had wrapped up her Midnight Liaisons series, but Goodreads is listing Between a Vamp and a Hard Place as a new one. The blurb doesn’t read like it is part of the series, but what do I know? Either way, it will be released on August 25th.

between a vamp and a hard placeIn the wickedly funny spirit of bestselling authors Kerrelyn Sparks and Molly Harper, this sexy paranormal romance features an estate broker and a 600-year-old vampire out for revenge.

Lindsey Hughes loves antiques and couldn’t be happier to make a living in the estate sale business. But when her assistant accidentally buys an entire estate without her approval, Lindsey is forced to clean up the mess herself.

Lindsey travels to the newly purchased, age-old house in Venice, Italy, and soon discovers more than she (never) bargained for. While digging through the hoarder’s trove that fills every floor, she finds a secret staircase behind a wall that leads to a strange coffin…with an even stranger inhabitant.

Vampire Rand FitzWulf has been in his coffin for 600 years. But now that he’s awake, he’s ravenous, and there’s a delicious-smelling woman with a rare blood type in his basement. Luckily, Lindsey has more to offer than blood: she agrees to travel throughout Europe with Rand to help him get revenge on the one who turned him. But as the unlikely pair grows closer, will the billionaire vampire be overtaken by his thirst for blood—or his thirst for love?

Do you have any favorites from this batch? What is your take on the new MacAlister, Saintcrow and Handeland series? Do they sound like something that might interest you? I am going to try the Handeland books, I figure, and maybe the MacAlister one, too. They would both be new-to-me authors, and a new series is a good place to jump in.

Cover Lover – Four New Titles

Wow – new posts TWO days in a row! That has been a rare thing this month. This time around, it is a little cover lover post, with a couple of decent ones, too. First up is The Sea King, the second book from the Weathermages of Mystral series by C.L. Wilson. It is due out on July 28th.

the sea kingFrom the author of THE WINTER KING comes a breathtaking new tale of love and adventure, set in the mystical land of Mystral.

Summer Coruscate has grown up the daughter of royalty, a Princess of the Rose and a weathermage, but over the past three years of war, Summerlea has been rendered a shadow of its former self. Now, after the joining of her younger sister Khamsin and the Winter King in marriage, her kingdom is finally at peace.

A Calbernan warrior and seafarer, Dilys Merimydion has always possessed the ability to control the animals of the sea and uses their sight to chart his way through the dark, sometimes savage waters.

This next one is from Seanan McGuire and her InCryptid series. Pocket Apocalypse is due out on March 3rd.

pocket apocalypseEndangered, adjective: Threatened with extinction or immediate harm. Australia, noun: A good place to become endangered.

Alexander Price has survived gorgons, basilisks, and his own family—no small feat, considering that his family includes two telepaths, a reanimated corpse, and a colony of talking, pantheistic mice. Still, he’s starting to feel like he’s got the hang of things…at least until his girlfriend, Shelby Tanner, shows up asking pointed questions about werewolves and the state of his passport. From there, it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump to Australia, a continent filled with new challenges, new dangers, and yes, rival cryptozoologists who don’t like their “visiting expert” very much.

Australia is a cryptozoologist’s dream, filled with unique species and unique challenges. Unfortunately, it’s also filled with Shelby’s family, who aren’t delighted by the length of her stay in America. And then there are the werewolves to consider: infected killing machines who would like nothing more than to claim the continent as their own. The continent which currently includes Alex.

Survival is hard enough when you’re on familiar ground. Alex Price is very far from home, but there’s one thing he knows for sure: he’s not going down without a fight.

I didn’t even know there was going to be another book in Keri Arthur‘s Souls of Fire series, but it looks like Wicked Embers will be released on July 7th.

Out of this batch, I like the cover for Ink and Bone, and I think it sounds interesting, too. I have been cutting back on my blind-buying YA books lately after hitting a few duds in a row, but I think I will be checking that one out.

Oh, do you like the addition of the blurbs to the cover lover posts? They aren’t always available when the cover is revealed, but I thought I would try adding them to see how it worked out.

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

December is shaping up to be a totally crap month for book releases, book news, the whole works, and the slump doesn’t show any signs of letting up any time soon. I did find a few new covers, but even among these there wasn’t much to get me excited. Let’s start with the young adult stuff for a change of pace. This first one is The Replaced by Kimberly Derting, and it is due out on April 28th.

This second young adult cover is Resonance from Erica O’Rourke, which is due out on July 21st. It is the second book in the Dissonance series.

Next up is Paula Weston‘s Burn, which is the 4th book in the Rephaim series. No official release date has been given, as yet.

burnNow, I don’t usually include the George R.R. Martin books on Wicked Scribes because from what I understand they don’t fall in any way under the classification of a romance, but since it is quiet I thought I might as well. The long delayed sixth book, The Winds of Winter, still doesn’t have a release date, but there is a cover.

Christine Warren‘s Any Witch Way She Can is novella that was previously released in the No Rest For the Witches anthology. You will be able to pick it up as a stand-alone e-story on March 3rd.

And finally, there is the cover for the long delayed Black Wolves from Kate Elliott. It’s release date has shifted around so many times that I couldn’t be sure I hadn’t already upped the cover, to be honest, but it looks like this is a debut. As of right now, this one is scheduled for release on October 6th.

the black wolvesSo, that is that for today. Nothing too exciting going on, but are any of these releases on your must-read list? I did check out the first book of Kimberly Derting’s The Taken series, so I will be getting The Replaced, but that is about it for this pile for me (I haven’t tried the Game of Thrones books, and probably won’t. Too…epic-y).

Cover Lover – 5 New Titles

After a bit of what can only be called a dry spell, a few new covers have started trickling out (I imagine things will pick up after Christmas is out of the way). This first one is from Amanda Ashley. Night’s Surrender is part of the Children of the Night series, and it is due out on August 25th.

There you have it for today. I swear, one day I am going to pick up the Galenorn books just for the pretty covers. Her entire Otherworld series has great artwork, and this spin-off series does, too. I wish all series could look that good.

Cover Lover – Dead Ice (The Zombie Porn Book)

Sooo, there is another Anita Blake book from Laurell K. Hamilton in the works, this one called Dead Ice. It is due out on June second, and the cover and blurb were recently released. And what a blurb it is. Zombie porn. Wait, zombie porn? Seriously? Pretty cover, though…

dead iceAnita Blake has the highest kill count of any vampire executioner in the country. She’s a U.S. Marshal who can raise zombies with the best of them. But ever since she and master vampire Jean-Claude went public with their engagement, all she is to anyone and everyone is Jean-Claude’s fiancée.

It’s wreaking havoc with her reputation as a hard ass—to some extent. Luckily, in professional circles, she’s still the go-to expert for zombie issues. And right now, the FBI is having one hell of a zombie issue.

Someone is producing zombie porn. Anita has seen her share of freaky undead fetishes, so this shouldn’t bother her. But the women being victimized aren’t just mindless, rotting corpses. Their souls are trapped behind their eyes, signaling voodoo of the blackest kind.

It’s the sort of case that can leave a mark on a person. And Anita’s own soul may not survive unscathed . . .

Purchase at Amazon.com

Now I am talking as one who has never read a Laurell K. Hamilton book, mostly because I was repeatedly warned off of them. What I have commonly heard was that the first books were really good, then it sort of spiraled off into all-sex-no-story territory. The write up for this one doesn’t tempt me to start, either. What is your take? Has the series gone off the rails for you, and if it has do you think you would ever pick it back up again? Are there any other series whose storyline direction has stopped you from being a fan?

Cover Lover – 5 New Titles

There really hasn’t been anything going on in the book world, lately, or if there has been, I just haven’t noticed. The most exciting thing I came across was the news from Jeaniene Frost that there would be a fourth Vlad and Layla Night Prince book, rather than ending at three this January with the release of Bound by Flames. Nice…and I still want Ian.

On the cover front, there hasn’t been much excitement, either. I did manage to dig up five relatively new ones to take a peek at, though, starting with the next one from Charlaine Harris. Day Shift is the second book in her Midnight, Texas series, and it is due out on May 5th.

So, feeling the love for any of these? I for the life of me can’t remember if I read the last Dragonfury book – my list says yes, but my memory says no. Strange. Also, not sure about the Rogue cover. Hopefully it is one of those that look better in person, because it wouldn’t make me pick it up from the shelf at all. And what do you think about a fourth Night Prince book? Were you like me, happy but quietly whimpering “but, but…Ian?” under your breath?

Chloe Neill’s The Veil…

Romantic Times today debuted the cover for the first book in the upcoming Devil’s Isle series from Chloe Neill. The Veil has a release date of August 4th.

the veilSeven years ago, the Veil that separates humanity from what lies beyond was torn apart, and New Orleans was engulfed in a supernatural war. Now, those with paranormal powers have been confined in a walled community that humans call the District. Those who live there call it Devil’s Isle.

Claire Connolly is a good girl with a dangerous secret: she’s a Sensitive, a human endowed with magic that seeped through the Veil. Claire knows that revealing her skills would mean being confined to Devil’s Isle. Unfortunately, hiding her power has left her untrained and unfocused.

Liam Quinn knows from experience that magic makes monsters of the weak, and he has no time for a Sensitive with no control of her own strength. But when he sees Claire using her powers to save a human under attack—in full view of the French Quarter—Liam decides to bring her to Devil’s Isle and the teacher she needs, even though getting her out of his way isn’t the same as keeping her out of his head.

But when the Veil threatens to shatter completely, Claire and Liam must work together to stop it, or else New Orleans will burn…

I am looking forward to this one. The Chicagoland Vampires is a good, solid read for me – not at the top of my list, but I enjoy them when I read them – and so that gives me high hopes for this one, too. Anyone else planning on checking out Devil’s Isle?

A New Slave to Sensation…

So Nalini Singh has upped the cover for the soon to be republished Slave to Sensation, which is the very first novel of the Psy/Changeling series. According to Nalini, it is set to hit the shelves sometime next summer, which immediately made me hope and dream it will be out in hardcover (you know, the shelving issues and all). I don’t know what format it will be in as yet, but what do you think?

New cover…

slave to sensationAnd just to compare, let’s take a gander at the original cover from back in the day…

slave to sensation originalI love reprints, actually. I have to say, the original cover almost turned me away from reading what would become one of my favorite series of all time, so I am all in favor of a new take on it. I know I will be picking this up for sure, no matter if it is paperback or the dreamed about hardcover. How about you?

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

There were a few much anticipated covers released recently, like Magic Shifts and Shards of Hope. There were a few other covers I sort of pushed off to the side, so I thought I might put a few of them together. Let’s start with a new one from Jennifer Ashley.
