True Blood Season One

I had a few different New Year’s resolutions this year. There were certain books and series I had decided needed to come down off of the TBR pile and get read – like Patricia Briggs‘ Mercy Thompson series (which was great). Also, the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning (coming soon – I swear). But on another front, I also decided that after buying all of True Blood on Blu-ray, it was time to actually watch the darn things. Now, I didn’t have high expectations, for some reason, but with an eye-roll I decided to at least watch an episode or two.

From everything I had heard, I expected it to be high on both camp and cheese – and it was. Hearing Bill roll out “Suuuuckieeee” with a constipated face made me giggle every time, and the “pffft” noise whenever someone sprouted fangs made me snort. It was like a porn-filled soap opera, with questionable acting by some and questionable morals by all…

And I am hooked. Totally, completely, hooked.

One episode led to two, which became a one night season one marathon…and I am wondering if it is safe to start season two since I have to work in the morning. I loved it – and seeing Alexander Skarsgard in that black tank top (I refuse to call it a wife-beater) might actually have been a life-changing moment. I hunted down a recap of season one, just for fun, so if you haven’t watched it yet either be very wary of spoilers…

Oh, and if you are like me, you will be hitting the pause button around the .58 minute mark…just saying.

Cover Lover – 10 New Titles

I have been busy in the world of updating and adding to the new release pages (damn you, wordpress, and your error screens), but I did come across a few new covers in the process. Many thanks to All Things Urban Fantasy for some of these, as well. Natalie J. Damschroder has the new cover for the first book in her Goddess Rising series, Under the Moon. This one will be re-released on June 12th.

The third and final book from Sophie Jordan‘s Firelight series, Hidden, will be released in hardcover on September 11th. This is another one I will get to…one day.

The second book from Brigid Kemmerer‘s new Elemental series, Spark, is going to be out on September 1st.

Immortally Yours, the next one from Angie Fox, looks fun. It is due out on August 28th.

I thought this one was pretty. Christina Ashcroft‘s Archangel of Mercy, the first book of a new series, is due out on December 4th.

Still going…Number 6 is from author Karsten Knight and his Wildefire series. Embers and Echoes is the second book of the series, due out on August 28th.

Heaven and Hellsbane, the first book in the Hellsbane series from Paige Cuccaro, should be released on August 7th.

South of Surrender, the third book of Laura Kaye‘s Hearts of the Anemoi series, is looking like a September 11th release. Oddly enough, I didn’t find the cover for book two, as yet.

And these last two are from Rosalie Lario and the MMP re-release of two of the books in her Demons of Infernum series. First up is book one, Blood of the Demon, due out on June 12th.

And book two, Mark of the Sylph, which is due for re-release on September 11th.

Site Updates

So, as planned, I spent all of yesterday and most of last night adding new titles to the new release pages. It was great, and I thought that I had made quite a bit of headway. That is, until I started to notice that I was getting error screens that said “oops, sorry. Try again later”. Long story short – I am not sure how much actually got updated. I think the monthly summaries are good, but the yearly one might need work. Yay. So, forgive any conflicts you find – I will be trying to line everything up again over the next few days.

Pick of the Week

That time of the week again, when I go through and find “the one”. Except this week, my pick is from a series I have never read. I had heard only good things about Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series – but put off reading it for a long time. Ditto on Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series. But once I did finally make myself read them, I loved both and they went near the top of my favorite series lists. Another one on that “must read but putting it off for some strange reason” is Kim Harrison‘s The Hollows series. So, this week my pick is her book A Perfect Blood, which I will read…someday.

Synopsis…

Ritually murdered corpses are appearing across Cincinnati, terrifying amalgams of human and other. Pulled in to help investigate by the FIB, former witch turned day-walking demon Rachel Morgan soon realizes a horrifying truth — a would-be creator is determined to make his (or her) own demons. But it can’t be done without Rachel’s blood.

As a bounty hunter, Rachel has battled vampires, witches, werewolves, demons, and more. But humanity itself might be her toughest challenge.

There have been rumors that this series will be hitting the small screen alongside True Blood and the Vampire Diaries, so maybe that will get me reading.

This and That

Things have been a bit on the quiet side around here for a few days. Between working extra and just a info lull, I didn’t have much to post. The downside is that things are not as up to date as I would like. So, tomorrow is updating day. Yep. I plan on one whole day of nothing but blogging. Not everyone’s idea of fun, but I can’t wait. Love it. The plan is to add the almost 100 new book release dates I have found, update the covers and blurbs, and add something like 20 new authors to the the Series Reading Lists pages. And, if there is time, I have to update the Mythos Academy Character Guide to include the info from the last book, Kiss of Frost.

I did find a couple of little tidbits on my hunt for new info, however.

Shea Berkley will have two more Keepers of Life books coming out. The Lost Prince will be released this coming August, and The Bastard King will follow in August of 2013.
March 2013 will see the release of the third Kristen Callihan Darkest London book, this one called Winterblaze.
Megan Crewe‘s second Fallen World book will be called The Lives We Lost, and should be available next January.
For the followers of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl‘s Caster Chronicles, the title of the fourth book has now been revealed. Beautiful Redemption will be released on October 23rd.
The fourth (and supposedly final) The Edge book from Ilona Andrews will be called Steel’s Edge. Look for it on November 27th.
Tes Hilaire‘s second Paladin Warriors book will be called Deliver Me From Temptation. It is due out on December 4th.
A Savage Hunger is the title of the first book in a new jaguar shifter series from Terry Spear, and it should be available on October 1st.

Young Adult Spotlight

I find myself getting more and more Young Adult books the last few months. Not sure why, but I have gone from anticipating maybe one every couple of months to now looking forward to at least three or four every month. One of the ones I am most excited about is Above, a new book from author Leah Bobet. I think it is my total cover-geekness at work again, but this is a must-buy for me. It is scheduled for release on April 1st.

Synopsis…

Matthew has loved Ariel from the moment he found her in the tunnels, her bee’s wings falling away. They live in Safe, an underground refuge for those fleeing the city Above–like Whisper, who speaks to ghosts, and Jack Flash, who can shoot lightning from his fingers.

I like the fact that it sounds…different, too. And did I mention the pretty cover…?

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

Most of these I snatched from All Things Urban Fantasy, so many thanks. I’ve been searching for this one for a while now, so I was glad to get my hands on the cover for Blackhearted Betrayal by Kasey MacKenzie. It is part of the Shades of Fury series, and is due out on June 26th.

Next up is the, uh, unfortunate cover for Nancy Holzner‘s Darklands. The…mop-thing…on her head distracts from an otherwise decent cover. But, my God, the wig throws me. Look for this one on July 31st.

Number three from my ATUF raid is for the Jes Battis OSI book Bleeding Out. This one is due out on May 29th.

And finally, Larissa Ione upped the UK cover for her next Lords of Deliverance book, Rogue Rider. This one is supposed to be released sometime around December, and will feature Reseph, that bad, bad boy. I do like the UK covers for this series a lot…I have envy.

Young Adult Spotlight – Touch

A while back, I read and loved the book Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Loved it. So, that got me digging for more books “like” Onyx, and all roads pointed to the new one from author Jus Accardo. Touch, the first book of the Denazen series, came out on November 1st of last year, and so far seems to have gotten great reviews.

Synopsis…

When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.

Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy–and her father’s “law firm”–than she realized.

Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation–an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons–his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.

Cover Lover – Natural Evil

Thanks to Jemma, who pointed out that Thea Harrison had upped the cover for her next e-novella, Natural Evil. It is part of her Elder Races series, and features the characters of Luis and Claudia. It will be released through Samhain Publishing on March 20th, but I am not sure when that will be available through Amazon.
