Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

According to Facebook, Kresley Cole will be releasing not only the title for the third Arcana book soon, but she will up the cover for Dark Skye on Saturday (and it involves wings. Nice). To tide us over until then, I do have 6 new covers to show, including this new one from Amanda Bonilla and her Shaede Assassin series. Against the Dawn is due out this May.

against the dawnThis next cover seems to have a different feel than the previous ones in the Walker Paper series, but C.E. Murphy‘s Shaman Rises will be out on June 24th.

shaman risesCheryl Brooks‘ next Cat Star Chronicles book, Rebel, will be released on July 1st.

rebelI have heard good things about Kristen Callihan‘s Darkest London series, but I haven’t gotten to it yet. This is the cover for the fifth book, Evernight, which will be out on August 26th.

evernightI like the noir feel to Vicki Pettersson‘s Celestial Blues covers, and this one for The Given is no exception. It will be released on May 27th.

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

Just a quick drive by post on my way to work. Goodreads has been updated with a few new covers to show for today, like this much anticipated one for the second book of Anne Bishop‘s The Others series. Murder of Crows is to be released next March.

a murder of crowsI haven’t been able to find much info on this next one. Amanda Bonilla starts a new series, supposedly this September, called Sentry of Evil. Book one is Vengeance Born.

vengeance borneFor some reason, I thought the cover for Keri Arthur‘s Darkness Splintered had been released already, or maybe it is just that it looks so similar to the ones before it with the pretty wings. Either way, it will hit the shelves on November 5th.

darkness splinteredAnd this final one comes from an upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly, according to the watermark, at least. Into the Still Blue from Veronica Rossi will be released on January 28th.

into the still blueMy most anticipated of the four is Murder of Crows, and it is pretty easy to tell that they stuck with the same cover model (since I thought it was the same cover with the background changed, at first). I haven’t actually read any of the other three as yet, but Murder of Crows was a highlight for the first half of this year. What are you most looking forward to from this little cover batch?

February’s E-novellas…and Used E-books?

lost to the graySo, after bugging everyone about how they keep track of the ever growing e-book releases, I think I have my technique down (down-ish, maybe). I am not even going to attempt to list all of the PNR, UF and YA digital books being released, but I do hope to get a handle on the novellas that are coming for the popular print series (and some of the better known authors). I ended up using a couple of different sources and searches (thanks for the ideas, everone). This is what I came up for in February…

February 5th

February 12th

So, what did I miss? If you can think of any novellas that I skipped, feel free to list them here.

And, on a related note, I saw a little article over on Publisher’s Weekly that had me scratching my head. It looks like Amazon has plans…to sell used e-books. Huh?

Amazon’s business model has long been dependent on resellers of used books and other merchandise. But a U.S. patent that Amazon Technologies in Reno, Nev., received last week indicates that the mega-retailer has its sights on digital resale, including used e-books and audio downloads. According to the abstract, Amazon will be able to create a secondary market for used digital objects purchased from an original vendor by a user and stored in a user’s personalized data store.

Boston-based ReDigi opened the first marketplace for pre-owned digital music, which it launched in late 2011, redigi.com. Once a lawsuit that Capitol Records filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan over the way it handles music downloads is behind it, ReDigi plans to expand into e-books and other digital items. In a press release issued yesterday, ReDigi commented that “the Amazon patent is further proof that the secondary market is the future of the digital space and that there is no turning back.”

I must admit, this seems strange to me. I guess there is a market for everything, though (and Amazon pretty much covers it all).

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

Seven noobies for this post (well, a couple have been around for a few days, but I waited until I had more to post).  Most of these came from Goodreads, and a couple from All Things Urban Fantasy – many thanks.  This first one is from Seanan McGuire and her InCryptid series.  Midnight Blue-Light Special is due out on March 5th.

This next one comes from Amanda Bonilla‘s Shaede Assassin series.  Crave the Darkness also has a release date of March 5th.

I have never gotten into the Queen Betsy series, but the covers are fun, at least.  MaryJanice Davidson‘s Undead and Unsure will be out the middle of next year.

Tessa Adams starts up a new series, Lone Star Witch, with the release of Soulbound on February 5th.

This one is a bit…disappointing, I guess.  It has potential, but looks like someone just sort of gave up and never finished it.  Betrayed by Shadows is showing as an e-book only release for Nancy Gideon, and it will be released on December 18th.

From the young adult isle, there are a couple of new ones, too.  Jessica Therrien‘s Uprising, part of her Children of the Gods series, will be released next spring.

And this final one is from Cynthia Hand.  It is the Australian cover for Boundless, part of the Unearthly series, and it is due out this coming January.  I usually wouldn’t include this one, but it was so pretty I just had to.  It is actually my favorite cover I have seen in a while, and I am having total cover envy for this one.

Reader Recommendation

I really do like these Reader Recommendation posts…maybe I am nosy, but I enjoy finding out what stands out for people who like the same thing I do.  I don’t have any “real-life” friends who read PNR/UF/YA at all, so I depend on reviews and opinions to see what I am going to throw on top of Mount TBR next.  This recommendation comes from Delhia Alby, who sounds like she has found a good one.  I have heard very good things about the Shaede Assassin series from Amanda Bonilla, and this confirms it.

What Delhia says…

Do you know the Shaede Assassin series by Amanda Bonilla?  It’s my revelation this year. This series is just amazing! I think it’s always difficult to make a difference with Urban Fantasy’s books because we can find a lot of them today. But the author succeeded in this challenge, and even more.  She created an explosive, dynamic mix which leads us in a new universe that we don’t want to leave. Indeed, once started, we instantly get into the story and it’s really difficult to put the book down before finishing it. Well, you can understand now that this series blew my mind away!

While we discover Darian in the first and second book, we understand her past in the novella. So many things happened to her and it’s difficult for her to accept her true nature. We see her evolve in the first book into someone who cares for her friends, a new experience for her. She discovers a new world full of things she didn’t expect. Tyler is an important character in this story as well. He will do everything he can to help and protect our heroine. And when I say everything, it’s really everything! It was funny and cute to see them evolve together, Tyler, trying to expose his feelings to her and Darian trying to stay away from him.

The second book was really heartbreaking; It was so pleasant to see Darian with our little Djinn, Tyler, as she always was alone before. We understand that this relation will also be complicated between an overprotective Tyler and a shaede a little too independent for her own good. It was really surprising to see the efforts that they both try to do to make their relationship work, but it’s also a difficult situation. I confess I asked myself a lot of questions all along the book about Tyler because I didn’t understand what was going on. Amanda Bonilla was able to beautifully recreate the feelings of the characters throughout the book, love as well as sorrow. It’s difficult for Darian to know what she really wants to do and at the same time it’s impossible for her to be totally opened to Tyler as she is afraid and trying to protect him as well. Many things happen in this novel and Darian will end up with more responsibilities than she would have thought at first, or even us. I confess that everything was a real surprise; I didn’t expect that at all. The author succeeded in this challenge to make of this story a wonderful book, really! It’s always really easy to relate ourselves to Darian from the start. We perfectly feel the complexity of her feelings. She has evolved a lot since the first volume and she is now more vulnerable. It’s the reason why we can easily understand her acts.

In the two books we have two great investigations that will lead us into deep paths. The battles are really detailed, so we can only enjoy them. I was a little afraid they were quite fast like in some books or not much described because it’s true that it can be very difficult, but it wasn’t the case. And we get each time into the energy of the moment.

The character of Darian is in constant evolution and I’m sure the third book will have a lot of answers for us.

The Shaede Assassin reading list can be found HERE.

Many thanks to Delhia, and as always, feel free to hit the Contact Me page (shown over on the right column) and send a bit of info on your under-appreciated favorites.

Cover Lover – 5 New Titles

I finally came up for air after spending the day with Lothaire (what a great day to spend a day).  Wonderful book, worth the wait.  Anyhow, I decided to do a bit of “work” around here, and found a few more covers to add.  The first one is from H.P. Mallory and her Jolie Wilkins series.  The Witch is Back is a July 31st release.

The second cover is from author Taylor KeatingFair Game is the third book of her Guardians series, and should be out on August 28th.

This one is from the Shadow Kissed series.  Erin Kellison will be releasing Fire Kissed on July 3rd.

Next up is the cover for the second book in Amanda Bonilla‘s Shaede Assassin series, Blood Before Sunrise.  It is also due out on July 3rd.

And last one for this time is the cover for Yasmine Galenorn‘s Night Seeker, part of her Indigo Court series (for a while I was calling it the Night Court series.  Huh).  This one is due out on July 3rd, as well.

New Series Alerts…

December is a pretty slow release month for me, but there are a few interesting ones kicking off this week.  Author Zoe Archer fires up the Hellraisers with the release of Devil’s Kiss.

Synopsis…

1762. James Sherbourne, Earl of Whitney, is a gambling man. Not for the money. But for the thrill, the danger—and the company: Whit has become one of the infamous Hellraisers, losing himself in the chase for adventure and pleasure with his four closest friends.

Which was how Whit found himself in a gypsy encampment, betting against a lovely Romani girl. Zora Grey’s smoky voice and sharp tongue entrance Whit nearly as much as her clever hands—watching them handle cards inspires thoughts of another kind…

Zora can’t explain her attraction to the careless blue-eyed Whit. She also can’t stop him and his Hellraisers from a fiendish curse: the power to grant their own hearts’ desires, to chase their pleasures from the merely debauched to the truly diabolical. And if Zora can’t save Whit, she still has to escape him…

It will be followed by Demon’s Bride in May, and Sinner’s Heart after that.

The second title is from Amanda BonillaShaedes of Gray is the first book of the new Shaede Assassin series.

Synopsis…

For nearly a century, Darian has lived in the shadows. Made and abandoned by her once true love, Azriel, she is a Shaede. Her ability to become one with the dark, coupled with her jaded heart has made her the perfect assassin. Taking out the bad guy is a better reward than the money she’s paid to do her job. And she does it well.

When her seductive employer, Tyler, sends her on a routine hit, Darian is shocked to discover not only another Shaede, but Xander Peck, the charming, albeit over-confident King of the Shaede Nation. Xander draws her into his dark realm for one reason: find and kill the man who set her adrift in the world. Darian can’t help but wonder if she’s finally taken on a job too big, even for her. As her role in awakening an ancient evil is revealed, she’s forced to face who she was, who she is, and what she might become. Can she be the killer she’s convinced herself she is while holding on to the one part of her that’s still human—her heart and her ability to love?

Book two will be called Blood Before Sunrise, due out on July 3rd.

And finally, Tami Dane debuts the first book of her Sloane Skye series this week with the release of Blood of Eden.

Synopsis…

Twenty year old Graduate student Sloan Skye dreamed of being a criminal profiler since she watched her first episode of Criminal Minds. When she steps into the FBI Academy for a summer internship, she’s closer to reaching that goal…until everything goes wrong.

Instead of working with the Behavioral Analysis Unit, learning how to profile rapists and arsonists, she’s stuck in the Paranormal Behavioral Analysis Unit, chasing an immortal killer with a taste for blood.

She’s going to need a lot more than a Glock and some holy water to make it through the summer alive.

There will be at least two more books, with Blood of Innocence due out on June 5th.

Cover Lover – 12 New Titles

Many thanks to All Things Urban Fantasy, from where I nabbed many of these covers.

Well, the first one is from Rachel Vincent, called Blood Bound.  It is the first book in her new Unbound series, due out on August 23rd.

The second one is called Code of the Wolf, from author Susan Krinard.  It is from her 18th Century Werewolf series, and should be available on July 19th.

Hm, well.  The only author I follow in this anthology is Alexandra Ivy, and since her entry is a Guardians of Eternity short, I will be grabbing it for sure.  The Real Werewives of Vampire County also features Angie Fox, Jess Haines and Tami Dane, and should be out on October 25th.

The Hunter is the first book in Theresa Meyers‘ The Legend Chronicles.  Looks like a Cowboy Steampunk vibe going on.  Look for it on November 1st.

Next up is Devilishly Hot.  It is the new book from Kathy Love, due out on October 25th.  It doesn’t appear to be part of a series, but rather stand alone.

This one stands out with all of the vivid colors.  Siren’s Desire is the third book from the Dark Tides series from Devyn Quinn, and will be released on February 7th, 2012.

The cover for Barb Hendee‘s next one is out.  In Memories We Fear is the release from her Vampire Memories series, and should be available on October 4th.

Now, I know this one is YA, but I find the covers pretty.  The title and cover for the third book in Chloe Neill’s Dark Elite series have been released.  Charmfall is due early next year.

Jessica Sims will have a new series starting on October 25th with the release of Beauty Dates the Beast.  It is book 1 of her Midnight Liasons series.

Seems like there are a ton of new series starting up, and this one is no exception.  From Zoe Archer comes The Hellraisers.  Book one, Devil’s Kiss, is due out on December 6th.

Another new kid on the block is from Amanda Bonilla and her debut book, Shaedes of Gray.  It is part of her upcoming Shaede’s Assassin series, and will be on the shelves on December 6th.

The Bite Before Christmas is a duology featuring Jeaniene Frost and Lynsay Sands (I have my hopes up for a Bones fix), to be released in hardcover on October 25th.
