Cover Lover – 11 New Titles

Usually Tuesday is the day I do my pick of the week post, but to be honest there isn’t much this week that I am too excited about. So, instead, I will do a cover lover post. Let’s start with the young adult books, for a change. The Winner’s Crime is the second book from Marie Rutoski‘s The Winner’s Trilogy, and it is due out on March 3rd.

Are any of these something you are looking forward to? Every time I see a Jane Yellowrock cover, I kick myself for not starting the series yet.

Sin City Collectors Novella Series…

Earlier this year, word came out about the 1001 Dark Nights series of novellas, featuring such authors as Shayla Black, Lara Adrian, and Larissa Ione. They are stand-alone serialized stories, releasing roughly one every month, based around a central premise. It turns out there is another series in the works, too.

This time around, the series is called the Sin City Collectors, and the authors involved include Kristen Painter, Amanda Carlson, Shawntelle Madison, Sara Humphreys, and Angie Fox. You can find the first two covers and blurbs on their Facebook page.

Story #1 is Amanda Carlson’s Aces Wild, which is due out on June 2nd…

aces wildSynopsis…

Welcome to Vegas. Home of the Sin City Collectors. The job description is easy: Bring the offending supernatural in to the Boss and don’t ask any questions.

Nevada Hamilton has learned a few things since becoming a Sin City Collector, and staying away from vampires is one of them. After botching her first Collection, the vamp getting away after causing as much damage as possible, she hasn’t been assigned to another one since.

But when she receives her next playing card, she’s in for a surprise. Not only is a vampire her next target, but they’ve paired her up to make sure she gets the job done right. Refusing a Collection is not an option, but when she discovers who she’s working with, making the mission as difficult as possible for her new partner becomes her top priority…

Being a hellhound isn’t enough to protect Jake Troubadour from Nevada Hamilton, no matter how thick his skin is. Finding out he has to work with the beautiful dhampir, after not seeing her for three years, is a low blow—but Jake is a professional. He takes his Collections as seriously as he does running his bar. He’ll do whatever it takes to get the job done, but after that, he’s out. No more chances for the girl who wrecked his bike and scarred his soul so long ago. But even with his heart dead set against it, this hellhound quickly finds he’s not immune to love after all.

What’s Collected in Vegas, stays in Vegas…

And it will be followed by Kristen Painter’s Queen of Hearts on July 1st.

queen of heartsSynopsis…

Welcome to Las Vegas, home of the Sin City Collectors. The job description is easy: Bring the offending supernatural in to the Boss and don’t ask any questions.

Feline shifter Claudette Marchon traded life as a showgirl to become a Sin City Collector, giving up the glamour to earn some serious cash in order to buy her own business. Mission accomplished, she now runs a pawn shop specializing in gems and jewelry.

Life is good until a Collection job requiring her specific skill set lures her back in. The Queen of Hearts, a museum-worthy ruby and diamond necklace has been stolen from the Boss’s private collection and she’s his last hope to do what two other Collectors have already failed to do. Bring in the necklace. And the thief.

But gargoyle Jason Tennant isn’t quite the dangerous criminal Claudette expects. In fact, he’s not a thief at all. He’s former Special Ops and being set up by the real mastermind, forcing her to decide between the man she’s falling for and the man she works for. Proving Jason innocent may risk the Boss’s wrath, but Claudette’s heart says it’s a gamble worth taking.

What’s Collected in Vegas, stays in Vegas…

They sound like a fun read, and I like the idea of a continuity world. It is a good way to start authors that you haven’t tried yet, but where they are stand alone you don’t really miss anything vital if you skip one. There is no word yet on word count or price, but I will keep an eye out for it. Will you be giving them a shot?

May’s TBR Challenge…

Important-Books-on-Cloud-ComputingI think I have bored everyone already with my love/hate relationship with Mount TBR. To make things less overwhelming, and to finally make myself pick up some of the books that I tend to skip over time and again, I have set myself TBR reading challenges. As I find myself getting into the swing of it…it seems to be working. And, it is kind of fun.

Just in case anyone wants to play along, my goal for this month is to see how many series I can get caught up on. Because I have six (full) bookcases, my goal is to try and catch up on one series from each, or six series. For example…

Case 1 – Larissa Ione’s Reaver

Case 2 – Cecy Robson’s Cursed by Destiny

Case 3 – Jessica Sims’ Must Love Fangs

Case 4 – Amanda Carlson’s Hot Blooded and Cold Blooded

Case 5 – Jennifer Estep’s Killer Frost

Case 6 – Chloe Neill’s Biting Bad and Wild Things

What series would you most like to get caught up on soon-ish? Anything that you can see yourself getting into in May?

New Release Info…

Once again, I am doing a bit of updating, and I came across a couple of tidbits you might find interesting There wasn’t a lot new, since I just did an update a couple of weeks ago, but…

  • The second book of Jennifer L. Armentrout‘s upcoming The Dark Elements series will be called Stone Cold Touch, and it will be released mid-2014, from what I understand.
  • Patricia Briggs will release a compilation of short stories set in the Mercyverse, including all the stories from previous anthologies as well as several new ones. Shifting Shadows will be released in hardcover next October.
  • For whatever reason, Meljean Brooks‘ next Iron Seas book seems to have been shifted all over in terms of release date, but now it looks like The Kraken King is finally set for next August.
  • Fans of Amanda Carlson‘s Jessica McClain series will be happy to know that there is a fourth book on the horizon. Red Blooded will be released sometime next year.
  • Book number seven from Karen Chance‘s Cassandra Palmer series will be released in 2014 as well, and it will be called Reap the Wind.
  • And finally, it looks like the Underworld Detection Agency series from Hannah Jayne is drawing to a close. Under the Final Moon will be released on August 5th.

Pick of the Week…

I was working on getting all of the Yearly Release dates updated (done), I also added quite a few e-books to this month’s releases (there were a ton). All of that meant I forgot to post my pick of the week, which is the third Jessica McClain book from Amanda Carlson, Cold Blooded.

cold bloodedSynopsis…

With only a short to recover from their arduous journey, it’s time for Jessica to honor the oath she swore to the icy Vampire Queen. With Rourke at her side, and her team along for the ride, Jessica is confident she will be able to sail through this job without getting herself killed.

What Jessica doesn’t know is the Queen has plans to steal Jessica’s powers for herself.

After arriving at Tepes, the annual vampire gala, things go from bad to worse quickly. The 550th celebration, in honor of Vlad the Impaler, is nothing like she imagined. It’s complete ritualistic chaos. The vampires are loose and completely out of control. After being locked in a steel casket, chained in the dungeon and being snacked on repeatedly, Jessica has had enough.

The Vampire Queen becomes the least of Jessica’s worries when the rebel faction of werewolves amass for a brutal attack. An all-out war erupts in the Queen’s quarters, and the vicious skirmish forces the vamps and Jessica to fight on the same team.

Saving the Queen’s life and gaining a Debt of Life is just the icing on the cake.

But Jessica has no idea how soon she’ll have to cash it in . . .

I quite enjoyed the first one of the series, but of course the second one is still languishing on the TBR disaster. Has anyone else checked this series out yet? What did you think of it?

Pick of the Week…

This is one of those weeks that are great for YA readers, not so hot for the rest. In fact, there was only one adult non e-book title to hit the shelves today, but luckily for me it is one that I am actually looking forward to. My pick of the week is Amanda Carlson‘s Hot Blooded.

hot bloodedSynopsis…

It hasn’t been the best week for Jessica McClain.

Her mate has been kidnapped by a Goddess hell-bent on revenge — but Jessica is playing for keeps.

Because she’s the only female werewolf in town…it comes with its own set of rules…and powers.

Aided by two vamps, two loyal Pack members, and one very reluctant human, Jessica must rescue her man while coming to terms with what being a wolf really means.

All in a day’s work for a girl.

I enjoyed the first book and the novella, but I will need to do a quick review of them before I dive into this one. I remember that there was a cliffhanger ending…and then nada. Lord, the memory is getting bad.

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

Today is the usual day for my pick of the week post, but since I didn’t have one it looks like it is cover lover time, instead. For this post, there are seven newbies that I found between Goodreads and Amazon.com. Here goes…I enjoyed Amanda Carlson‘s first Jessica McClain book, and now it looks like the cover is out for the third, Cold Blooded, which will be released on October 8th.

cold blooded

This next one is actually the paperback cover for Karen Marie Moning‘s Iced, which will be released later this year. I was disappointed in this one, since the hardcover art was amazing, and this one gave me a home-made vibe. I am just finishing up Shadowfever, and then Iced is after that. Can’t wait.

iced paperback

And number three is from Molly Harper‘s Naked Werewolf series. How to Run with a Naked Werewolf will be released on December 31st.

how to run with a naked werewolf

Looks like Jaye Wells has a new series starting up early next year. Dirty Magic will be the first book of The Prospero’s War. I am going to have to look into this one a bit more.

dirty magic

And Kate Locke‘s next Immortal Empire book, Long Live the Queen, will be released on November 12th.

long live the queen

These next two are young adult titles. Got to say, this next one is not the most thrilling cover I have ever seen, but Erased is the second book from Jennifer Rush‘s new series.

And this last one is from Kami Garcia‘s upcoming series, The Legion. Unbreakable will be released on October 1st.

New Release Info…

newsIt is time again for a double-check on all of the authors listed in the Series Reading List pages. I have finished A-D, and between that and a random search there were a couple of interesting things I came across…

  • The second book in Jean Johnson‘s Guardians of Destiny series will be called The Grove, and it will be released on December 3rd.
  • The October 29th Black Wings book from Christina Henry now has a title. It looks like this one will be called Black Heart.
  • Kate Locke‘s third Immortal Empire book will be called Long Live the Queen, and it will also be released on October 29th.
  • Cold Blooded, the third book from Amanda Carlson‘s Jessica McClain series, will be released on October 8th.
  • It looks like Caris Roane‘s Ascension series is indeed ending. Born in Chains, her October 1st release, is part of a new series called Men in Chains.
  • August 27th is the release date for the next Kerrelyn Sparks book, this one called The Vampire with the Dragon Tattoo.
  • If you are a fan of Cat Adams‘ Blood Singer series, the sixth book will be called To Dance With the Devil and it will be out on November 5th.
  • The release date is TBA, but it looks like Midnight Breed #12 from Lara Adrian will be called Crave the Night.

  • The second book of Alyssa Day‘s new League of the Black Swan series will be called The Unforgiven.

  • This December, Andrea Cremer returns to her Nightshade world with the release of book 4, Snakeroot.
  • There is some Kresley Cole news that I was happy to hear. Book two of her YA Arcana Chronicles series, Endless Night, will be coming out on October 1st, and the second Dacians book (title TBA) will be released on December 3rd.

Here is the blurb for Endless Night, and by the sounds of it things are about to get very interesting…

In the second book of the Arcana Chronicles Evie has now fully come into her powers as the tarot Empress. And Jackson was there to see it all. In the aftermath of killing Arthur, the tarot Alchemist, Evie realizes that a war is brewing between the other teens that, following the apocalypse, have been given powers and its kill or be killed. Things get even more complicated when Evie meets Death, the mysterious, sexy Endless Knight. Somehow the Empress and Death share a romantic history – one that Evie can’t remember, but Death can’t forget. She is drawn to the Endless Knight, but is in love with Jack. Determined to discover why she’s been granted these powers, Evie struggles to accept her place in a prophecy that will either save the world, or completely destroy it.

New Series Alert…

There is one new series hitting the shelves this week, and from what I have seen so far early reviews have been very positive.  Full Blooded is the first book of the Jessica McClain series by Amanda Carlson, but there is a prequel novella that came out a few months ago called Blooded.

Synopsis…

Born the only female in an all male race, Jessica McClain isn’t just different—she’s feared.

After living under the radar for the last twenty-six years, Jessica is thrust unexpectedly into her first change, a full ten years late. She wakes up and finds she’s in the middle of a storm. Now that she’s become the only female full-blooded werewolf in town, the supernatural world is already clamoring to take a bite out of her and her new Pack must rise up and protect her.

The Jessica McClain reading list is HERE.

Has anyone checked this out yet?  I am thinking that I will probably grab Blooded tonight and see how things go.

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

Cue evil laughter…

This is me, cackling madly.  Anyone who saw the post directly below this one (pick of the week) has already been bored by my love of Jennifer L. Armentrout‘s Lux series (and the Sentinel series, but that is a story for another day).  So, you can imagine my joy when I found the cover for her third book in the series, Opal.  And it isn’t even that long of a wait for it, since it is due out on December 11th.

*Edit – Amber has pointed out that the author has stated that this is not the official cover, even though I did find it at Amazon.com.  I am going to keep it posted just for the pretty, but things could be a changin’.

Moving on, Amazon also upped the cover for Hot Blooded, the second book from Amanda Carlson‘s Jessica McClain series.  This one is due out on April 23rd.

I am continuing my love affair with white covers.  This time it is from Katie Reus and her Moon Shifters series.  Mating Instinct will be released on March 5th.

And this final one is from author Terry Spear and her Wolf Shifter series.  A Highland Werewolf Wedding will be released sometime next year.
