Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone. After a bit of a cover drought for a while, it looks like all of the new artwork is exploding onto the scene the last couple of days. Leigh Bardugo‘s Ruin and Rising cover just came out, and I am glad they didn’t change the design for this third book in the Grisha series. It is due out on June 17th.

New Series Alerts…

Just a few newbies to get into this week, with this first new series coming from Christina AshcroftArchangel of Mercy is the first book of her Fallen Archangel series.

Archangel of MercySynopsis…

Between an angel and a desperate woman comes salvation and a raw passion that challenges them at every turn…

When Aurora Robinson attempts to open a rift between dimensions to embrace her true heritage, an arrogant Archangel is the only one who can save her from the jaws of hell. And while she owes Gabriel her life, she’s determined not to fall at his feet-despite the desire she feels whenever they’re together.

After his wings were brutally destroyed millennia ago, Gabriel has no compassion for humans like those who ruined him and betrayed the ones he loved. But when he inexplicably finds himself defying ancient protocols to rescue a woman from a fate worse than death, he is shocked by the searing attraction he feels for a mortal.

As the ancient forces that seek to punish Aurora for her actions close in, Gabriel offers the tempting woman protection at his private sanctuary. But as they both succumb to their desires, they discover an even deeper connection-one that threatens to consume them.

This second one is from Coreene Callahan.  I really enjoy her Dragonfury series (even if it is BDB lite), but it seems that she is branching out to paranormal historical with her Circle of Seven series.  Book one is called Knight Awakened.

knight awakenedSynopsis…

In AD 1331, warlord Vladimir Barbu seizes control of Transylvania. But in spite of his bloody triumph, his claim to the throne remains out of reach. The king of Hungary opposes his rule, the Transylvanian people despise his brutal ways, and the high priestess needed to crown him has vanished without a trace. But Barbu hasn’t come this far only to be thwarted by a woman. He unleashes his best hunters to track her down and bring her to him—dead or alive.

For Xavian Ramir, killing is the only life he has ever known. Torn from his family when he was a child, he was trained from an early age to be an elite assassin. But now he longs for something more, vowing to start anew after one last job. The bounty on his target’s head is enough to set him up for good—if he can resist the long-dead conscience that stirs to life when he meets his beautiful mark.

Afina Lazar never wanted to become high priestess, but the brutal murders of her beloved mother and sister leave her no choice. Now she is running for her life, desperate to protect the magical amulet entrusted to her care. But when Barbu’s assassin comes for her, she realizes her only chance of stopping the warlord’s rise to power is to convince this enigmatic—and handsome—hunter that she is more valuable alive than dead.

And finally, Anita Clenney is also starting a new series called The Relic Chronicles.  This first book is called Guardians of Stone.

guardians of stoneSynopsis…

Kendall Morgan is a human bloodhound. Spending her childhood hunting relics with her ambitious archeologist father, she knew the two of them shared a sixth sense for the history and location of objects—sometimes even people. What she didn’t know was that their paranormal gift could ultimately be their undoing.

After the tragic plane crash that killed her father as well as her childhood best friend, Kendall dedicated her life to finding and protecting relics. When mysterious, sexy billionaire Nathan Larraby hires her for his latest expedition—the search for four powerful relics —she’s thrown into a world of high-octane danger. He sends brooding mercenary Jake Stone to watch Kendall’s back, but he may have created danger of a different kind.

As the team chases down clues, a man called the Reaper makes a play for the artifacts and will stop at nothing to put them to his own sinister use. What’s worse is that Nathan hasn’t told the whole story, and the dark secrets he’s keeping could cost them the mission…and their lives.

Cover Lover – 4 Newish Titles

Man, there hasn’t been much of anything going on in the PNR cyberworld for the last week or so, unless I have been living under a rock or something.  I think these have been around for a week or so, but I am just getting to them now.  The first one is Death Magic, from Eileen Wilks.  It is the 8th book in her World of the Lupi series, due out on November 1st.

The second one is from Eve Silver, the fourth book from her Otherkin series.  Body of Sin is an August 23rd release.

Number three is from Anita ClenneyEmbrace the Highland Warrior is the second book from her Connor Clan series, due out on November 1st.

This is one from the YA world.  Charmfall, the next book from Chloe Neill‘s Dark Elite series, should be available early next year.

New Series Alert

I have to admit, there are a couple of series starting up this week I have been looking forward to getting my hands on…

Anita Clenney begins her new Connor Clan series with the release of Awaken the Highland Warrior, featuring time travel and hot Scottish men.

Synopsis…

Historian Bree Kirkland has always been in love with the past, but when she accidentally wakes an ancient Scottish warrior who’s spent the past 150 years sleeping in her backyard, her present is suddenly fraught with danger.

Faelan has awakened from the time vault hungry and horny. He grieves for his lost family, wondering who sent the woman to wake him. If she’s a demon, Faelan will have to kill her. If she’s innocent, she’s unleashed the gates of hell in her backyard. Either way they must rely on each other to save their future.

This will be followed by Embrace the Highland Warrior in November, and Unleash the Highland Warrior in 2012.

Next up is Virna DePaul‘s Chosen by Blood, the first book in her Para-Ops series.  This one sounds like it is something a little different, so I am looking forward to giving it a shot.

Synopsis…

United by fate. Bound by desire.

Five years after the Second Civil War ends, humans and otherborn— humanlike creatures with superhuman DNA—still struggle for peace. To ensure the continued rights of both, the FBI forms a Para-Ops team with a unique set of skills.

Leader of an Otherborn clan, half-breed vampire Knox Devereaux would do anything to find a cure for the anti-vamp vaccine slowly starving his people into extinction. When the FBI contacts him about leading a team of hand-selected Others on a mission to reclaim the stolen antidote, Knox accepts. His new assignment places him in direct contact with Special Agent Felicia Locke, the beautiful human he’s craved since their very first meeting.

The follow up, Chosen by Fate, will be out this October.

Dragon Bound is the first book from Thea Harrison‘s Elder races series, featuring magic and dragons.  Love the dragons.

Synopsis…

Half-human and half-wyr, Pia Giovanni spent her life keeping a low profile among the wyrkind and avoiding the continuing conflict between them and their Dark Fae enemies. But after being blackmailed into stealing a coin from the hoard of a dragon, Pia finds herself targeted by one of the most powerful–and passionate—of the Elder Races.

As the most feared and respected of the wyrkind, Dragos Cuelebre cannot believe someone had the audacity to steal from him, much less succeed. And when he catches the thief, Dragos spares her life, claiming her as his own to further explore the desire they’ve ignited in one another.

August will see the release of book two, Storm’s Heart, and Serpent’s Kiss will follow in October.

The one I am most looking forward to is Blood Law, the first book in Karin Tabke‘s Blood Moon Trilogy.  There was a change in cover-art a while back, but this is the official version.

Synopsis…

For all eternity, only one thing shall separate them—until the Blood Law is avenged…

The coming of the Blood Moon will lead two Lycan packs into war, spur two rival brothers into conflict, and spark an act of vengeance so evil that its effects will be felt for generations.

One woman stands at the center of it all…

As undisputed Alpha, Rafael must choose a life mate to preserve the dominance of his Lycan pack. He never suspected, his mate would be a human, the same wounded, girl-woman he seduces from the brink of death. Falon is a dangerous combination of Lycan and Slayer—beings bred to destroy his kind. Even more, she’s a mesmerizing beauty whose sensuality tempts the seasoned warrior to take unnecessary risks. The primal heat between them is irresistible, yet surrendering to it could destroy them both…for a vengeful foe stands ready in the shadows to fulfill what is rightfully his by Blood Law.

The second book, Blood Right, will be out next February, and be followed by Blood Moon Rising next June.

Spotlight on…Anita Clenney

Starting next May, author Anita Clenney debuts a new series with her release of Awaken the Highland Warrior.  There are three books expected so far, with Embrace the Highland Warrior following in November 2011, and Unleash the Highland Warrior listed for the Spring of 2012.

He’s had centuries to dream of her…

Mis-adventurous historian Bree Kirkland discovers a one hundred fifty year old warrior buried in a crypt behind her house. But Faelan, the warrior, isn’t dead. When this chauvinistic Scottish Warrior awakes, he has no choice but accept the help of this modern-day woman who’s rescued him, but she’s more fearsome than the demon trying to kill him. If he’s not careful, she’ll uncover every secret his clan has bled and died to protect.

And from Embrace the Highland Warrior…

When the powerful demon that left Shay for dead discovers her empty grave, he comes seeking retribution, believing she possesses an ancient book he has sought for centuries. Knowing she can’t fight the demon alone, Shay returns to her clan and the Scottish Warrior who betrayed her…the only man she’s ever loved, where she discovers that betrayal isn’t always what it seems. Sometimes it’s far worse.

And finally, Unleash the Highland Warrior…

The only weapon that can kill the demon who’s trying to destroy the world is Tavis Connor’s brother’s talisman, but his brother has been captured and Tavis doesn’t know if he’s alive or dead. The Scottish Warrior risks his life to find his brother and finish the quest.
