Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

It seems like it has been a while since the last cover post, for some reason, but there are only four new ones to share this time around. Starting with the adult releases, Donna Grant‘s Fire Rising (from her Dark Kings series) will be released on June 3rd.

fire risingThe third book of the Noon Onyx series from Jill Archer will be called White Heart of Justice, and it will be released on May 27th.

white heart of justiceThe next two are young adult. Earthquake is the title of the second book in the Earthbound series by Aprilynne Pike, and it will be released on July 15th.

earthquakeAnd the final one for this quick little post is from a new series from Lindsay Cummings. The Murder Complex is the first book of The Murder Complex series, and it will be released on June 10th.

the murder complexI have to admit, I have liked the Donna Grant books I have read, but I never realized how far behind I am (and how fast she puts out books). Not sure that is one I will ever get caught up on. The Murder Complex is one I will be giving a try when the prequel novella, The Fear Trials, is released on May 27th.

New Series Alerts…and What the Hell was I on?

Soooo, you know how sometimes you do something, something that is pretty routine, and you sort of do it without thinking? Yeah. Yesterday’s New Series Alert post was kinda like that. All business as usual…until I realized that it isn’t August yet. Yep, if you wanted the breaking news on what new series to look for at the end of next month, you were in luck. If you were looking for what came out this week…not so much. Let’s try this again.

The first book of Keri Arthur‘s re-releasing Nikki and Michael series, Dancing With the Devil, came out today. Most of her back-catalog is in the process of being re-published, actually.

dancing with the devilSynopsis…

Book One in the Nikki and Michael Series: Private Investigator Nikki James grew up on the tough streets of Lyndhurst and believes there’s nothing left to surprise her. All that changes the night she follows teenager Monica Trevgard into the shadows-and becomes a pawn caught in a war between two very different men. One fills her mind with his madness, the other pushes his way into her life-and her heart. Nikki knows how dangerous love can be, but if she wants to survive, she must place her trust in a man who could easily destroy her.

Michael Kelly has come to Lyndhurst determined to end the war between himself and another brother of the night. For 300 years he has existed in life’s shadows, gradually learning to control the life from death cravings of a vampire. Nikki not only breaches his formidable barriers with her psychic abilities, but makes Michael believe he may finally have found a woman strong enough to walk by his side and ease the loneliness in his heart. But will his love be enough to protect her from a madman hell-bent on revenge? Or will it drive her into his enemy’s deadly trap? Only together can they overcome the evil threatening to destroy them both. But the secrets they keep from each other might prove to be the greatest threat of all.

Also starting up this week is Bailey Cunningham‘s Parallel Parks series, which gets its start with Pile of Bones.

pile of bonesSynopsis…

The Cree called the area Oscana, “pile of bones,” a fertile hunting ground where game abounded. The white settlers changed that to Wascana. And centuries later, it became Wascana Park, a wooded retreat in the midst of the urban sprawl of Regina.

For a select few, who stay in the park until midnight, the land reverts into a magical kingdom, populated by heroes and monsters. They become warriors, bards, archers, gladiators. In the city called Anfractus, they live out a real-life role playing game.

All harmless fun—until they find themselves in the middle of an assassination plot which threatens to upset the balance of everything.  Politics are changing, and old borders are about to disappear.  The magic of Anfractus is bleeding into the real world—an incursion far more dangerous than the students suspect. Only they know what is happening—and only they can stop it…

And from Laura Anne Gilman comes the first book of her Portals series, called Heart of Briar.

heart of briarSynopsis…

“He has been taken. And you are his only chance.”

That wasn’t something Jan expected to hear—especially from strangers who’d just rescued her from some mysterious and ferocious creatures. And she really hadn’t expected her rescuers to be shape-shifters….

Now it turns out her boyfriend, Tyler, hasn’t gone missing, he’s been stolen—and Jan’s the only one who might be able to get him back.

From Elfland.

Yeah, Jan’s pretty sure the entire world’s gone crazy. Even if the shifters claim that the naturals (like her) and the supernaturals (like them) belong in this world…but the preternaturals, what humans call elves, don’t. And they’ve found a portal into our world. A doorway they can use to infiltrate, to take, to conquer.

And now Jan’s not just Ty’s only hope—she’s got to rescue humanity, as well….

Next up are a couple of YA titles. The first one is from author Dawn Metcalf, and it is called Indelible. It is the first book of the Twixt series.

indelibleSynopsis…

Some things are permanent.

Indelible.

And they cannot be changed back.

Joy Malone learns this the night she sees a stranger with all-black eyes across a crowded room—right before the mystery boy tries to cut out her eye. Instead, the wound accidentally marks her as property of Indelible Ink, and this dangerous mistake thrusts Joy into an incomprehensible world—a world of monsters at the window, glowing girls on the doorstep, and a life that will never be the same.

Now, Joy must pretend to be Ink’s chosen one—his helper, his love, his something for the foreseeable future…and failure to be convincing means a painful death for them both. Swept into a world of monsters, illusion, immortal honor and revenge, Joy discovers that sometimes, there are no mistakes.

Somewhere between reality and myth lies…

And this final one, for the last week in JULY, comes from Aprilynne Pike. Earthbound is the first book of the Earthbound series.

earthboundSynopsis…

Tavia Michaels is the sole survivor of the plane crash that killed her parents. When she starts to see strange visions of a boy she’s never spoken with in real life, she begins to suspect that there’s much about her past that she isn’t being told. Tavia will soon to discover that she’s an Earthbound—someone with the ability to create matter out of nothing—and that she alone holds the key to stopping the Reduciata, an evil society that manipulates global events for its own shadowy purposes. Tavia will ultimately have to make a choice: to come into her powers and save the world from the evil Reduciata or to choose free will and a love of her own.

Anything on this new, revised list catch your eye, or are you all about the established series this week (with both a Kate Daniels and a LotU book released)?

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

Meh, maybe I should have said new-ish for the titles.  This is sort of a mixed bag post, to say the least.  This first one is from a favorite of mine, Cynthia EdenAvenging Angel is the fourth (and apparently final) book in her Fallen series, and it is due out on May 28th.

avenging angel

This next cover is from the Noon Onyx series by Jill ArcherFiery Edge of Steel is the title of the second book, and it will be available on May 28th, as well.  I get a real video-game vibe from this one.

fiery edge of steel

I have been seeing this next one popping up everywhere lately.  Carniepunk is an anthology featuring a number of top writers, including Rachel Caine, Jennifer Estep, and Rob Thurman.  It will be released on July 30th.

Well, I have to admit that this cover for Darynda JonesFifth Grave Past the Light isn’t quite what I expected.  Maybe it is because I loved the reaper outfits on the previous covers, but this one doesn’t live up to the rest of the series for me.  In fact, it actually gives me a young adult vibe.  Anyways, it will be hitting the shelves on July 9th.

fifth grave past the light

On the young adult side of things, Replica is a new one coming from Jenna Black on July 16th.  I am not sure as yet if this is a stand alone title, or the first book in a series.

Melissa West‘s first book, Gravity, has only recently been released, but the cover for the second book is now out.  Hover will be hitting the shelves next August 6th.

And this final one is from Aprilynne Pike.  She is starting up a new series called Earthbound next July, with the first book also being called Earthbound.

Did any of these ones catch your eye?  Are you a bit disappointed in the Fifth Grave cover like I am (I do so love those reaper outfits), or do you think it is a nice change is style?

A few more to add to the pile…

Heather Killough-Walden‘s second full Lost Angels book will be called Messenger’s Angel.  This one is due out on June 5th.

This second one was pointed out to me a while ago, but of course it slipped my tiny mind.  Shadow Bound is the next book in Rachel Vincent‘s Unbound series, due out on May 22nd.

Coming in at number three is Tempest’s Fury, the upcoming Jane True book from Nicole Peeler.  This one should be available on June 26th.

Warrior Enchanted is the title of the fourth book of the Sons of the Zodiac series, written by Addison Fox.  This one is due out on May 1st.

And the cover is out for the next book from Lee Roland‘s Earth Witches series, Vengeance Moon.  Look for it on June 5th.

The next couple are from the Young Adult side of things.  Arise is the second book in Tara Hudson‘s Hereafter trilogy, due out on June 5th.

And finally, the cover for the fourth book of Aprilynne Pike‘s Wings series came out recently.  Destined is due for release on May 1st.
