Cover Lover – 9 New Titles

It looks like the covers are starting to come out again heading into the new year, which is great. Scary that this year is almost a wrap, though. Let’s start this batch with some art from upcoming new series. Katie MacAlister‘s Dragon Fall will be the first book of the Dragon Fall series, and it is due for release on July 28th.

dragon fallYOU FLIRT WITH FIRE…

For Aoife Dakar, seeing is believing-and she’s seen some extraordinary things. It’s too bad no one else believes that she witnessed a supernatural murder at an outdoor fair. Returning to the scene for proof, Aoife encounters a wise-cracking demon dog-and a gloriously naked man who can shift into a dragon and kiss like a god. Now thrust into a fantastical world that’s both exhilarating and terrifying, Aoife is about to learn just how hot a dragon’s fire burns.

WHEN YOU DATE A DRAGON

Kostya has no time for a human woman with endless questions, no matter how gorgeous or tempting she is. He must break the curse that has splintered the dragon clans before more of his kind die. But his powerful attraction to Aoife runs much deeper than the physical-and there may be more to her than even his sharp dragon eyes can see. To survive the coming battle for the fate of his race, he needs a mate of true heart and soul . . .

trailer park faeNew York Times bestselling author Lilith Saintcrow returns to dark fantasy with a new series where the fairy world inhabits diners, dive bars and trailer parks.

Jeremy Gallow is just another construction worker, and that’s the way he likes it. He’s left his past behind, but some things cannot be erased. Like the tattoos on his arms that transform into a weapon, or that he was once closer to the Queen of Summer than any half-human should be. Now the half-sidhe all in Summer once feared is dragged back into the world of enchantment, danger, and fickle fae – by a woman who looks uncannily like his dead wife. Her name is Robin, and her secrets are more than enough to get them both killed. A plague has come, the fullborn-fae are dying, and the dark answer to Summer’s Court is breaking loose.

Be afraid, for Unwinter is riding…

Jennifer Estep‘s next Elemental Assassin book will be called Spider’s Trap, and it will be out on July 28th.

spider's trapKeep your friends close but your enemies within stabbing distance.

One important lesson I’ve learned in the assassination business is that to be the best you have to roll with the punches. Now that I’m queen of Ashland’s underworld—by default, not by choice—a lot more punches are being thrown my way. But I suppose that’s the price of victory for taking down some of the underworld’s top dogs. Good thing I have my Ice and Stone magic to help me survive my volatile new position. Just when I think things are finally settling down, someone tries to murder me during a hush-hush underworld meeting. But the real surprise is how strangely familiar my shadowy assailant seems to be.

My job is to maintain order among killers, crooks, and thieves, and soon I’m embroiled in a bloody game where the ability to keep secrets could be the greatest superpower of all. My enemies have all sharpened their knives and laid their traps, waiting for me to fall. But this Spider weaves her own webs of death…

For some reason, I had thought I had heard that Jessica Sims had wrapped up her Midnight Liaisons series, but Goodreads is listing Between a Vamp and a Hard Place as a new one. The blurb doesn’t read like it is part of the series, but what do I know? Either way, it will be released on August 25th.

between a vamp and a hard placeIn the wickedly funny spirit of bestselling authors Kerrelyn Sparks and Molly Harper, this sexy paranormal romance features an estate broker and a 600-year-old vampire out for revenge.

Lindsey Hughes loves antiques and couldn’t be happier to make a living in the estate sale business. But when her assistant accidentally buys an entire estate without her approval, Lindsey is forced to clean up the mess herself.

Lindsey travels to the newly purchased, age-old house in Venice, Italy, and soon discovers more than she (never) bargained for. While digging through the hoarder’s trove that fills every floor, she finds a secret staircase behind a wall that leads to a strange coffin…with an even stranger inhabitant.

Vampire Rand FitzWulf has been in his coffin for 600 years. But now that he’s awake, he’s ravenous, and there’s a delicious-smelling woman with a rare blood type in his basement. Luckily, Lindsey has more to offer than blood: she agrees to travel throughout Europe with Rand to help him get revenge on the one who turned him. But as the unlikely pair grows closer, will the billionaire vampire be overtaken by his thirst for blood—or his thirst for love?

A handsome, brave man fighting at her side, a man she misses when she wakes.

Then the dream comes true. Heather is flung into a war between predators and protectors of humanity, the man from her dreams beside her again. Except now that she’s awake, she isn’t sure she can trust Ethan, or the shadow organization he represents. The U.S. military doesn’t trust either of them. Do you have any favorites from this batch? What is your take on the new MacAlister, Saintcrow and Handeland series? Do they sound like something that might interest you? I am going to try the Handeland books, I figure, and maybe the MacAlister one, too. They would both be new-to-me authors, and a new series is a good place to jump in.

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

It looks like it is time for another cover post. There are seven in this batch, but nothing that really jumps out at me and says “you must read me!”. This first one is from the upcoming Hellhound series from Caitlin Kittredge, Black Dog. It is due out on October 28th.

black dogUp next is the cover for Low Midnight, which is the next book in Carrie Vaughn‘s Kitty Norville series. It is due out next January.

Armentrout‘s Lux series will be re-released into two volumes called Lux: Beginnings and Lux: Consequences, on June 3rd. This is the cover for Consequences. I have to say, I liked the original ones better. These look like magazine covers to me, for some reason.

lux consequencesSo, there you have it for today. Anything stand out for you? What is your take on the new Lux design?

This and That…

Just some random info and new release dates from out and about…

  • Robin D. Owens will release her 13th Celta’s Heartmates book, Heart Fire, on November 4th.
  • It looks like the Queen Betsy series from MaryJanice Davidson just keeps chugging along. Undead & Unwary will be out on October 7th.

  • The second book from Samantha Shannon‘s The Bone Season book, The Mime Order, will be out on October 21st.
  • Alexandra Adornetto starts up her new Ghost House Saga on August 26th with the release of Ghost House.
  • I didn’t even know the first book was part of a series, but Erin Quinn‘s second Beyond book, The Three Fates of Ryan Love, will be out on September 30th.
  • Fans of Kresley Cole‘s Arcana Chronicles series will have a little extra wait for the third book, Dead of Winter. It has been pushed back to January 6th.
  • October 7th is the release date for the next Jane Yellowrock book from Faith Hunter, and it will be called Broken Soul.
  • It is a bit of a wait for Suzanne Johnson‘s next Sentinels of New Orleans book, Pirates Alley. It is due out next April.
  • Sherrilyn Kenyon‘s sixth Chronicles of Nick book will be called Defiant, and it won’t be out until April of next year.
  • Moon Shifter #5 from Katie Reus will be called Hunter Reborn, and it is due out next February.
  • The next Kitty Norville book from Carrie Vaughn, Low Midnight, will be out at the end of this year.
  • Fans of Jaye Wells‘ Prospero’s War series will have to wait until next March for the third book, Deadly Spells.

  • Jennifer Estep‘s Black Widow will be released November 25th. Hard to believe the Elemental Assassin series is already up to book #12. The blurb is out already…

There’s nothing worse than a cruel, cunning enemy with time to kill—and my murder to plan.

With wicked Fire elemental Mab Monroe long gone, you’d think I could finally catch a break. But someone’s always trying to take me down, either as Gin Blanco or my assassin alter-ago. Now along comes the Spider’s new arch-nemesis, the mysteriously named M. M. Monroe, who is gleefully working overtime to trap me in a sticky web of deceit.

The thing is, I’m not the only target. I can see through the tangled threads enough to know that every bit of bad luck my friends have been having lately is no accident—and that each unfortunate “coincidence” is just one more arrow drawing ever closer to hitting the real bulls-eye. Though new to Ashland, this M. M. Monroe is no stranger to irony, trying to get me, an assassin, framed for murder. Yet, as my enemy’s master plan is slowly revealed, I have a sinking feeling that it will take more than my powerful Ice and Stone magic to stop my whole life from going up in flames.

  • Sometimes my best guesses just don’t work out. I had assumed that the hero from the Ilona Andrews‘ upcoming Burn for Me would be the fire Prime, Adam Pierce. The blurb proved me wrong, though…

#1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more
dangerous desire…

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile case. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run or surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

So, that is about that for this week. Any gossip or juicy news to share?

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

I have been chugging right along. The New Release dates have been updated for both 2013 and 2014, and all of the covers and blurbs are up to date as of yesterday. I am about a third of the way through updating the Completed Series section, too (I think I am on authors whose last names start with “I”). Most of those added to the Completed Series section were Young Adult, though. Oh, and I added about 90 new titles to the new release pages, as well.

In the process of updating, I did come across a few new-to-me covers. I do have to say that there wasn’t much in this batch that I got excited over, though. Some of them are pretty enough, but I don’t see myself running out to buy any of them.

Well, this first one is a re-release for Jenna Black. Watchers in the Night is the first book from her re-releasing Guardians of the Night series, and it will be out on January 14th.

watchers in the nightThis second cover is also a re-release, and while it looks YA it is apparently not. A Dance in Blood Velvet by Freda Warrington will be released on April 8th.

a dance in blood velvetI have to admit, this next one is a beauty. I have heard next to nothing about it, but it is eye-catching. Dangerous was written by Shannon Hale, and it will be released on April 1st.

fatesFebruary 4th is the release date for Landry Park by Bethany Hagen. It is described as “Downton Abbey meets The Selection”.

Cover Lover – 5 New Titles

Another day, another raiding of the new covers over at Goodreads. Looks like just five caught my eye this time around, and I am seeing a blue theme. This first one is the cover for the second book in Gail Carriger‘s newly released Finishing School series, Curtsies and Conspiracies. It will be released on November 5th.

curtsies and conspiracies

Numero deux is from the upcoming 12th book in Carrie Vaughn‘s Kitty Norville series, Kitty in the Underworld. It will be out on July 30th.

kitty in the underworld

And still withe the blue. The third book in Darynda Jones‘ Darklight series is called Death and the Girl He Loves, and it will be available on October 8th.

death and the girl he loves

I haven’t actually heard much about this one, but I am working under the assumption that The Coldest Girl in Cold Town from Holly Black is YA, and that is about all I know. It will be hitting the shelves on September 17th.

the coldest girl in coldtown

The final one for this post is pretty, but then so are the rest of the covers in Keri Arthur‘s Dark Angels series. Darkness Unmasked will be released on June 4th.

Random Updates…

archangel's kissWow, hard to believe, but this is actually post number 1001.  Way back on August 11th, 2009 I started with a Cover Lover post that featured Nalini Singh‘s Archangel’s Kiss.  I think I checked every five minutes for the next few days to see if anyone had actually viewed it…such a nerd.  So, forward a few years, and things haven’t really changed.  Things have expanded a bit, and the look has changed a few times, but other than that things are pretty much still the same (and I am still a nerd).

On the site side of things, I have updated all of the Series Reading List pages, so all of the book lists are as up-to-date as I could get them.  I took the opportunity to finally work on the long neglected Completed Series List page, as well.  There are some that I think are finished that I didn’t add, since I couldn’t find official word that they were in fact over.  I will be keeping an eye on them, but if you see any that I missed feel free to give me a shout.  Also, WordPress decided to play with the way that the code for linking to a specific spot on a page was worded, which meant that all of those “Blah Blah reading list HERE” links no longer worked.  I do believe that I got that dealt with as well (each one had to be redone individually, so I hope I didn’t miss any).

On the Character Guide front, I added one a couple weeks back for Kresley Cole‘s Arcana Chronicles (speaking of which, it looks like book two, Endless Knight, will not be out until next October).  I also got Thea Harrison‘s Elder Races guide up to date and added the info for Lord’s Fall, and I am almost done the rough copy for the last two Darynda Jones Charley Davidson books.  That one should be FINALLY updated by the middle of this week.  That just leaves me Archangel’s Storm and a Mythos Academy book to get caught up.  Yay.

There are a few newbies to add to the New Release pages, as well…

  • It looks like Linda Poitevin will release another Grigori Legacy book in 2013, this one called Sins of the Righteous.
  • Also due next year is the third book in Adrian Phoenix‘s Hoodoo series, Black Moon Mojo.
  • The second book in Jamie Quaid‘s new Saturn’s Daughter series, Damn Him to Hell, will be released on June 25th.
  • There will be another Anna Strong book from Jeanne C. Stein coming out on August 27th.  Right now, the title is TBA.
  • Awaken the Damned is the title of the third League of Guardians book from Juliana Stone, and it will be released on June 25th.
  • Alpha Pack book number four from J.D. Tyler, Hunter’s Heart, will be released on September 3rd.
  • You will be able to get a new Kitty Norville book from Carrie Vaughn on July 30th.  This new one will be called Kitty in the Underworld.
  • Looks like there is also another Lupi book from Eileen Wilks in the works, as well.  Ritual Magic, Lupi #10, will be out next on August 6th.
  • Eternal Sin is the title of the 6th Mark of the Vampire book from Laura Wright.  Look for it next November.

Cover Lover – 5 New Titles

I am still in the process of adding a bunch to the new release pages, but on the plus side I did manage to get the character guide updated for The Ghostwalkers (and only a couple of months behind!  Go me…).   I did manage to find a couple of new covers for this week, though.

Night Resurrected is the sixth book from the Envy Chronicles by Joss Ware, and it is due out on February 26th.

Uh, ok.  This one makes me snicker.  I think it is the hat…and the…goggles.  Still laughing.  Anyways, The Chosen is the third book from Theresa Meyers‘ The Legend Chronicles, and it will be out on March 4th.

And next up is A Taste of Ice from Hanna Martine, the second book in her Elementals series, which will be hitting the shelves on December 31st.

Shona Husk starts up a new series next July with the release of The Outcast Prince.  I am still looking for the name of the new series, though.

And this final one is Kitty Rocks the House by Carrie Vaughn.  It is the 11th full book of the Kitty Norville series, due out next March 26th.

Random Updates…

I am done!  I finally, finally got the Series reading list section “done” – er, done-ish?  It is at least up to date, including all of the authors listed on the new release pages.  It took longer than I had thought, but I hope it comes in handy.  As always, let me know if anything needs work.

Also, I am doing up a section for Darynda Jones.  It should be up and running within the next couple of days, and I will be doing a character guide for the Charley Davidson series, as well.  I have the first book done, so I think I will just up what info I have and add the second book stuff when I get it done (hopefully before the third book is released at the end of the month).  Right now, I am on a Mercedes Thompson marathon – and loving it – but I will try and take a break to do Second Grave on the Left.

I have a ton of new releases to add to the lists, as well.  I mean a ton.  I will be doing that within the next couple of days, too.  Some of the titles I will be adding are…

  • Aimee Laine – Hide and Seek (March 1st)
  • Nina Bangs – Wicked Edge (March 6th)
  • Jamie Manning – Blood Born (April 24th)
  • Amanda Quick – Crystal Gardens (May 3rd)
  • Carrie Vaughn – Kitty Steals the Show (July 12th)
  • Laurie London – Seduced by Blood (July 24th)
  • Sophie Jordan – Hidden (September)
  • Meljean Brook – Rivited (September)
  • Seanan McGuire – Ashes of Honor (September 6th)
  • Becca Fitzpatrick – Finale (October)
  • Linda Howard/Linda Winstead Jones – Warrior Rising (October 30th)
  • Tahereh Mafi – Shatter Me #2 (November)
  • Kate Douglas – Dream Unchained (November 1st)
  • Jennifer L. Armentrout – Deity (November 6th)
  • Laura Resnick – Polterheist (November 6th)
  • Ally Conde – Matched #3 (November 13th)
  • Larissa Ione – Rogue Rider (December)
  • Jennifer L Armentrout – Opal (December)
  • Beth Reavis – Shades of Earth (January 2013)

Cover Lover – 3 New Titles

It seems I have been on a bit of a dry run lately in regards to finding new covers, but I finally scored a couple today.  Best part is, two of the three I absolutely loved, which is a total bonus.  First up is Shadow Rising, the third book in Kendra Leigh Castle‘s new Dark Dynasties series.  It is due out next summer.

Not bad, but at first I thought it was an e-book cover.  Then I got the next two, which really grabbed my attention.  On July 31st, Jamie Quaid will be releasing Boyfriend From Hell, her first novel.  And she got off to a great start with the cover art.

And finally, P.N. Elrod will be editing another collection of great authors for the book Hex Appeal.  Due out on June 5th, it includes stories from Jim Butcher, Ilona Andrews and Carrie Vaughn, among others.  I don’t remember seeing this cover around before, but it might just be new to me.  I still thought it was great, though.

Random Updates…

Soooo, every six months or so, I show just how dull my life is by going through the new release schedules, month by month, and plugging each and every author’s name into Amazon.com and Goodreads to see what they have coming out next.  Then, I check each author’s website and blog to see what is going on, too.  Then I update the “coming attractions” for each series.  I said life was dull, right?

Anyhow, I have made it through July 2011, and all of the reading lists for each title should be completely up to date, and all links added where available.  On my searches, I found some coming soon info on quite a few series…

  • MaryJanice Davidson will be starting a Mermaid trilogy with the release of Underwater Love on February 7th.
  • January 3rd is the release date for the fourth book in Richelle Mead‘s Dark Swan series, called Shadow Heir.

  • Alien Diplomacy will be the title of the fifth Katherine Katt book from Gini Koch, and it should be available on April 3rd.
  • Devon Monk‘s 6th Allie Beckstrom book, Magic Without Mercy, will be an April 3rd release.

  • Summer 2012 is the general release date for the third book in Stephanie Julian‘s Forgotten Goddesses series.  Looks like Goddess in the Middle is literally that, since it lists three main characters.
  • Queen Betsy continues.  Number 11 in the MaryJanice Davidson series will be called Undead and Unstable, and should be out early next year.
  • There is a bit of a wait for the next Indigo Court book from Yasmine GalenornNight Seeker, book three, is scheduled for release next June.
