New Series Alerts…

Just a quick heads-up that all of the new release dates have been updated through the end of 2014, and as always I have a list of new titles to add (but that might not happen until the beginning of January).

On to the new series. The first one is from author Jaime Rush, who debuts her new Hidden series this week with the release of Dragon Awakened.

And never, ever safe…

Playing With Fire

Ruby Salazaar wants answers…and revenge. Her uncle has just been murdered before her eyes and the name he utters with his final breath—Cyntag—leads Ruby into a world beyond her wildest imaginings. She soon learns that the dark, sexy Cyntag Valeron knows more about her than she does herself.

Burned By Love

Ruby changed Cyn’s life before she even knew who he was. Now she charges into his life, a beautiful woman full of fire and questions. Cyn knew this day would come, yet he couldn’t foresee the danger—and desires—Ruby would bring with her. He can teach her how to harness her newly awakened powers. But there is one force neither of them can control…

This second one is a prequel novella for the upcoming Beautiful Creatures spin-off series from Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, called Dangerous Dream.

dangerous dreamSynopsis…

Catch up with Ethan, Lena, and Link as they finally graduate from high school and get ready to leave the small Southern town of Gatlin. But when Dark Caster Ridley makes an appearance, the sometime bad girl can’t resist picking a fight with her sometime boyfriend, Link. Angry and rebellious as ever, Ridley ends up alone in New York City and becomes entangled in the dangerous underground Caster club scene, where the stakes are high and losers pay the ultimate price.

Where’s a Linkubus when you need him?

I already have my copy of Dragon Awakened, and I am going to check out the new Dangerous Creatures novella, too. Beautiful Creatures wasn’t one of my favorite series, but I am definitely going to be checking out the new series.

New Series Giveaway Winner…

winner banner

First off, I just wanted to say thanks to all who left comments in the New Series Giveaway post…I don’t usually respond in the giveaway threads, so it is easier to keep track of entrants. But Happy Thanksgiving to you all, as well.

There were 40 entrants for the giveaway of December’s Dragon Awakened by Jaime Rush, Born in Blood from Alexandra Ivy, The Grendel Affair by Lisa Shearin, and Heart of Stone from Christine Warren. The randomly chosen winner was #10…

Larissa {Larissa’s Bookish Life}

Well, after a couple of days of completely ripping my house apart (strange how buying a couple of new things makes you want to replace everything), I am in the mood to shop. In that vein, I thought I would do a decent-sized giveaway in time for Christmas…which is very, very rapidly heading our way.

On to the details…this giveaway will be for ALL FOUR of the new PNR/UF series that are starting up in December. If you are interested in winning copies of Dragon Awakened by Jaime Rush, Born in Blood by Alexandra Ivy, Lisa Shearin‘s The Grendel Affair, and Christine Warren‘s first Gargoyle book, Heart of Stone, just enter your name in the comments section below. Contest open to all, winner to be chosen at random. Good luck!

born in bloodBorn in Blood…

Sergeant Duncan O’Conner has seen it all before. A beautiful erotic dancer is found murdered in her home—no suspect, no motive. But there’s one clue: she’s missing her heart. It’s enough to make the hard-bitten Kansas City cop enlist the help of a necro—one of the dead-channeling freaks who live in the domed city of nearby Valhalla. It’s a long shot, but desperate crimes call for desperate measures.

Unlike the other “high-bloods” in Valhalla, Callie Brown considers her abilities a gift, not a curse. But when she reads the dancer’s final thoughts, she senses a powerful presence blocking her vision. This is no ordinary homicide. This is the work of a legendary necromancer who controls souls. A ravenous force that will put Callie’s skills to the test, O’Conner’s career at risk, and both their hearts on the line…literally.

the grendel affairThe Grendel Affair…

When I moved to New York to become a world famous journalist, I never imagined that snagging a job at a seedy tabloid would change my career path from trashy reporter to undercover agent. I’m Makenna Fraser, a Seer for SPI. I can see through any disguise, shield, or spell that a paranormal pest can come up with. I track down creatures and my partner, Ian Byrne, takes them out—usually saving my skin in the process.

Our cases are generally pretty routine, but a sickle-wielding serial killer has been prowling the city’s subway tunnels. And the murderer’s not human. The fiend in question, a descendant of Grendel—yes, that Grendel—shares his ancestor’s hatred of parties, revelry, and drunkards. And with New Year’s Eve in Times Square only two days away, we need to bag him quickly. Because if we don’t find him—and the organization behind him—by midnight, our secret’s out and everyone’s time is up.

heart of stoneHeart of Stone…

Kees is a gargoyle, one of a group of supernatural guardians created to protect the world from the seven demons of the Dark. In an earlier age, he and his brother warriors defeated creatures and banished them. With their duty done, the guardians settled in to sleep until a new threat arose. So why on earth would he awaken to nothing more than a small female woman?

Gargoyles are the strike force of demons, but Kees cannot see the threat. It certainly isn’t coming from Ella, but something about her must have woken him from his sleep. She must be the key to uncovering his new mission. With her by his side, he begins to unravel of trail of clues that leads to only one conclusion: somehow, the portals he and his brothers had thought were sealed have begun to open.

I will order all of the books for the winner at the same time, but since the books are released throughout the month of December, they will be shipped as they become available. Which one of these are you most looking forward to?

Cover Lover – 13 New Titles

While doing my recent updating of the New Release pages, I came across a few covers I hadn’t gotten my hands on before. They might have been floating around for a while and I just missed them, but they are new to me, anyways. We start this batch with Lisa Shearin‘s The Grendel Affair. It is the first book of her SPI Files series, which will be released on December 31st.

the grendel affairLolita Lopez has a new s-book series starting soon called Dragon Heat. The second book will be called Red Hot Dragon, and it has been pushed back a few months and now has a release date of February 4th.

red hot dragon

I gave up the Feral Warriors series by Pamela Palmer a while back, but it looks like things keep rolling on. Wulfe Untamed will be released January 28th.

wulfe untamedYasmine Galenorn will re-release her Otherworld novella The Shadow of Mist on September 3rd. It was originally published in the Never After anthology.

th shadow of mistJaime Rush‘s third book from her new The Hidden series, Angel Seduced, will be released on February 25th.

angel seducedShawntelle Madison continues her Coveted series with the release of Compelled early next year.

compelledThis next batch is all YA. Rachel Caine looks to the classics for Prince of Shadows, which focuses on the character of Benvolio from Romeo and Juliet. It will be released on February 4th.

prince of shadowsFor some reason, I was surprised to see that Kelley Armstrong is starting up a new YA series. Sea of Shadows is the first book of the Age of Legends series, and it will be available on April 8th.

sea of shadowsStill on the YA track, Promise Bound from Anne Greenwood Brown will be released on January 7th.

promise boundBook two in Shannon Messenger‘s Sky Fall series, Let the Storms Break, will be released on March 4th.

let the storms breakSophie Jordan is also firing up a new series in the near future. Uninvited is the first book of the series of the same name, and it is due out on February 25th.

uninvitedAlmost done. I do know this one has been making the rounds for a while, but this is the first version of Sherrilyn Kenyon‘s Illusion that I found without a watermark. The Chronicles of Nick book will be released on April 1st.

illusionAnd this one is less of a debut and more of a redo. The original cover for Sherry Thomas‘s Burning Sky came out a while back, and was a real beauty. For some reason, however, there was a new version done which is just as great. The first book of a trilogy, Burning Sky will be released on September 17th.

the burning skyWhat do you think of this batch? Anything that stands out for you? I know The Burning Sky cover (both of them, actually) really grabbed me, and I spent a good while trying to figure out what sort of dance move Nick is trying to pull off on the Illusion cover. No way that looks comfortable. I am not a big fan of the Grendel Affair cover for some reason, and the embossing on the Compelled cover just doesn’t work for me, but other than that I have to say this is a decent pile of covers.

Cover Lover – 6 New Titles

First, I should apologize ahead of time. I am in the middle of a string of deadly long shifts at work, so I am not sure I will be posting much between now and Monday. I will keep an eye out to see if anything exciting happens, but I will probably just be doing the work/home/sleep/work thing for the next few days.

On the plus side, there are a few new covers floating around. This first one is a biggie – Reaver is the finale of both the Demonica and the Lords of Deliverance series from Larissa Ione, and it is due out on December 17th.

reaverI thought, incorrectly it seems, that Thea Harrison was done with the e-novellas for the Elder Races series for a while, so I was surprised when Goodreads showed this cover for The Wicked. It will be released on July 2nd.

the wickedThese next two are from Jaime Rush‘s upcoming Dragon series called The Hidden.  Book one is called Dragon Awakened, and it has a release date of December 17th.

dragon awakenedAnd book number two is called Magic Possessed. Look for it on January 28th of next year.

magic posessedOn the young adult side of things, there are a couple of new covers as well. Waterfell is the first book of a new series by Amalia Howard called The Aquarathi. It is due out on October 29th.

waterfellAnd this final one is from Jodi Meadows. Infinite is the third and final book in her Incarnate series, which is due out in early 2014.

infiniteReaver wasn’t what I was expecting, for some reason. Maybe the pink? I find myself very interested in the Jaime Rush Dragon books, and while I have seen her work around for a while it will be my first try. Which ones caught your eye?

This Week in E-books…

Holy crap, June. As in, middle of the year June. Scary. Anyways, it looks like we have a few e-books and novellas heading our way this week.

These first two are from the Nocturne Craving imprint. June 1st was the release date for Hunting the Jackal by Seressia Glass.

hunting the jackalSynopsis…

A newcomer to the clan, jackal shifter Amarie has tried to deflect the interest of male jackals, hiding a secret that could destroy her prospects as a mate. But she can’t deny that warriors Kurik and Rashon, who have forged their own relationship, fuel her sensual fantasies.

Despite his strong bond with Kurik, Rashon’s heart has made room for Amarie—and he wants to make to room for her in their bed, too. At first Kurik fears losing his lover, but the temptation of sharing her as their mate is too tempting to resist. And if any female can handle two virile jackal guards, it’s Amarie…

The second Nocturne Cravings release is The Darkest Embrace from author Megan Hart, which was also released on the 1st.

the darkest embraceSynopsis…

Their first night together is every bit as amazing as Jessie anticipated. But the weekend quickly takes an eerie turn as strange things start happening and a mysterious dark figure begins stalking them in the woods. Something far more powerful and terrifying than they’ve ever known….

June 4th is the release date for the first novella from Jaime Rush‘s new e-book series called The Hidden. This story is called Dragon Mine.

dragon mineSynopsis…

When he runs into Elle, sparks fly, especially when he discovers her father is missing, too. Suspecting that their disappearances are linked, they must combine his Dragon power and her magick to find the truth in the darkest shadows. But as their desires flare again, can their burning passion overcome their past—or the danger that the future holds?

From the young adult side of things, Amanda Sun introduces her new Paper Gods series with the starting novella, called Shadow.

shadowSynopsis…

Meet two teens whose worlds are about to change forever in this paranormal Young Adult novella, a prequel to Ink by debut author Amanda Sun…

At night, a shadow haunts his dreams, and a mysterious woman torments him with omens of death and destruction. But these haunting premonitions are only the beginning…

And finally, Susan Dennard‘s A Dawn Most Wicked is also released on the 4th. It is number 2.5 in her Something Strange and Deadly series.

a dawn most wickedSynopsis…

Daniel Sheridan is an engineer’s apprentice on a haunted Mississippi steamer known as the Sadie Queen. His best friend–the apprentice pilot, Cassidy Cochran–also happens to be the girl he’s pining for…and the captain’s daughter. But when it looks like the Sadie Queen might get taken off the river, Daniel and Cassidy have to do whatever they can to stop the ghosts that plague the ship. Fortunately, there happens to be a Creole gentleman on board by the name of Joseph Boyer-–and he just might be able to help them…

Which ones are you checking out this week? I have been eying the Jaime Rush series since I first saw details about it, and on a shallow note the Amanda Sun covers are pretty and make me want. Story of my life – attention caught by the shiny things.

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

Just a couple of quick mentions before I get to the covers. I wanted first to thank the gals at All Things Urban Fantasy for inviting me to be a part of their Cover Art Coverage post this week. It was fun to have someone else do all the hunting and posting and just throw in my two cents, for what they were worth. Also, my updating of the release dates for 2013 will be complete tomorrow night, so if there were any books you had your heart set on you might want to check and see if the release dates changed. There were a few that were pushed back, and a few disappeared entirely (like Kresley Cole‘s second Dacians book).

On to the covers. I am a bit lazy tonight, so looks like it will be only four for this post. This first one is from author Jaime Rush, and it is the prequel novella for her new series starting up later this year called The Hidden. The novella is called Dragon Mine, and it will be released on June 4th.

dragon mine

This second one is from Dani Harper. She is starting a couple of new series this year (and then returning to her Changeling series), and this cover is for First Bite. It kicks off her Dark Wolf series, and it will be released on October 15th.

first bite

Number three caught my eye right away, and is my favorite of the group. The second book of Amy Raby‘s new Hearts and Thrones series, Spy’s Honor, will be released on October 1st.

spy's honor

And finally for tonight is the cover for Shadow’s Curse, the second book in Alexa Egan‘s Imnada Brotherhood series, which will be out on September 24th.

Cover Lover – 9 New Titles

I have been a bit slack on the cover department lately, and I nabbed these first five from All Things Urban Fantasy‘s Cover Post.  The cover for Kady Cross‘s third Steampunk Chronicles book, The Girl with the Iron Touch, just came out.  The book will be available on May 21st.

the girl with the iron touch

This next one is the first book from the Hex Hall Spin-off series from Rachel HawkinsSchool Spirits will be released on May 14th.

Still from ATUF comes this third cover.  Star Cursed is the second book in the Cahill Witch Chronicles from Jessica Spotswood, and it will be released on June 18th.

Kendare Blake will be starting a new series next September with the release of the first book, Antigoddess.

anitgoddess

Good Lord…holy crap-awful photoshopping!  This one is from Jaime Rush and her Offspring series, called The End of Darkness.  It is scheduled for release in January, according to Goodreads.  This is not the cover you want to wrap up your series with, that is for sure.

the end of darkness

This next one is from my favorite hit-or-miss author, Christine WarrenHungry Like a Wolf will be the last of her re-written Others books, bringing the series up to date.  Look for this one on June 25th.

hungry like a wilf

This next one from Amanda Ashley reminds me of the old historical romances I used to read years ago.  As Twilight Falls will be released on May 7th.

as twilight falls

Rising Darkness is the tile of the first book in a new series from Thea Harrison.  It will be available on April 2nd.

rising darkness

And this final one is from Shannon K. Butcher‘s Sentinel Wars series.  Falling Blind will be released next April 2nd.

falling blind

My favorite from this batch is Falling Blind.  I was hoping that this would be Grace and…damn, can’t remember his name.  Tor?  Something like that.  Anyways, I was hoping that this was their story, but Shannon is good about building up a story over the course of a couple of books.  Which one are you most looking forward to?

Cover Lover – 3 New Titles

Another three for the pile.  First up is one that has been making the rounds on the blogs this last week – A Tale of Two Vampires from Katie MacAlister.  I didn’t even know this one was coming out, so I need to work harder.  No idea on release date, as yet.

The second one is from E.S. MooreTainted Night, Tainted Blood is the second book of the Kat Redding series, due out on July 3rd.

And the final one is from Jaime RushDarkness Becomes Her is part of The Offspring series, due out on May 29th.
