This Week in E-books…

I wasn’t expecting much in the way of e-releases this week. Not sure why – maybe because it has seemed like the last couple of weeks have been quiet on that score. Looks like they made up for it this time, though.

This first one is Taken by the Vampire King from Laura Kaye. It is a Nocturne Cravings release.

taken by the vampire kingSynopsis…

Henrik Magnusson is supposed to be immortal, but a mysterious ailment leaves the vampire king near death, and not even the blood of the Proffered, human virgins trained to serve the elite, can sustain him. Then he rescues a beautiful young woman from his enemies, and is filled with blood lust and desire he hasn’t felt for centuries.

Photographer Kaira Sorenson’s life takes a nightmare turn when she’s attacked by blood-thirsty creatures—and saved by a vampire. She should be afraid of Henrik, but she can’t deny her intense attraction to this regal, enigmatic being—nor the fact that her blood may be his only salvation. Now she must decide if she’s willing to be his forever…

Also from Nocturne Cravings is The Demon’s Forbidden Passion by Zoey Williams.

the demon's forbidden passionSynopsis…

A battle rages within Ethan Phillips. By day, he’s a sexy firefighter saving lives in his community. At night, he’s a half-demon enraptured by carnal desire. And on this night, after a harrowing rescue dredges up memories of his tragic past, Ethan’s hunger is stronger than ever.

After turning to Tina Driscoll for one night of passionate release, he tries to keep his distance. He knows the curse that followed him into adulthood will mean dire consequences for the gentle, compassionate nurse. But each time he tries to tear himself away, the flames erupting between them only intensify….

This one is a novella from the St. Croix Chronicles by Karina Cooper, called The Mysterious Case of Mr. Strangeway.

strangewaySynopsis…

Although I have only been part of Society for two years, I am already desperate to escape its confines and eager for adventure. The world my deceased parents have left me is nothing more than a gilded prison, and I will do anything to escape the boredom, even become a collector of bounties.

My name is Cherry St. Croix, and I may be young, but I am old enough to know when I am in over my head. My first collection seemed easy: Mr. Strangeway’s debts have come due, and the purse for his capture is hefty. Yet the wastrel remains one step ahead of me, and my efforts are hampered by another collector after the same coin. What’s more, a simple hunt becomes the forefront of a conspiracy that leads me on a chase through London’s low-class streets.

Not only does my pride demand success, but the well-being of many rest upon the choices I make—failure is not an outcome I can live with.

And also heading our way this week is Zoe Archer‘s Skies of Gold, which is part of her Ether Chronicles series.

skies of goldSynopsis…

Two Lonely Hearts…

Kalindi MacNeil survived the devastating enemy airship attack that obliterated Liverpool, but even her engineering skills can’t seem to repair her broken heart. Seeking to put her life back together, Kali retreats to a desolate, deserted island—only to discover she’s not alone. Captain Fletcher Adams, an elite man/machine hybrid, a Man O’ War, crashed his battle-damaged airship into this deserted island after Liverpool, never expecting to survive the wreck. But survive he did.

One Desire…

Believing he is nothing but a living weapon, Fletcher is wary of his new-found companion—a pretty, damaged, but determined young woman. Together they are stranded on the deserted island, and it is only a matter of time until desire gets the best of both of them. Soon Kali and Fletcher find they may be just what the other needed. But a danger from beyond the island puts them to the test. Will it rip them apart or bond their hearts forever?

I haven’t seen much about this Katie MacAlister series for some reason. Time Crossed is a novella from her Time Thief series.

time crossedSynopsis…

Stealing time. Cheating death. Breaking hearts. Gregory Faa is an Otherworldly man on a mission in the new Time Thief short story from New York Times bestselling author Katie MacAlister.

Gwenhwyfar Byron Owens is a Wiccan on the edge—of the law. With two mothers who excel on breaking the rules of the Otherworld’s Watch, Gwen is used to dealing with their troublesome situations. But when she’s snatched from the jaws of death itself, it’s not her moms who give her grief, it’s the drop-dead gorgeous man who saved her life.

Traveller Gregory Faa may be many things—time stealer, outlier, troublemaker—but there’s one thing he isn’t: hip to the fact that death has very little patience with people who don’t die when they’re supposed to.

And finally for this week we have Lolita Lopez‘s Dead Sexy Dragon , which is the first title from her new e-book series called Dragon Heat.

dead sexy dragonSynopsis…

The last thing dragon shifter Stig Wyvern needs is his dead friend’s kid sister showing up on his doorstep. He’s just minutes away from entering a mating phase. Sharing his isolated house with the young woman he’s desperately lusted after for quite some time is a recipe for disaster.

But Cora Cardenas has nowhere else to go. She’s in deep trouble with some really nasty people and Stig is the only one who can protect her. That he’s deliciously sexy and makes her tingle with the simplest of smiles is just a bonus.

Cora quickly realizes Stig is hiding something from her. To make matters worse, she’s plagued with breathtakingly naughty dreams starring a shadowed lover who bears a startling resemblance to her host. And just what the hell is going on down in the basement at night?

Stig needs to get Cora out of his house but his inner beast has other ideas. He’s found his mate and she’s not going anywhere…

Anything you just have to have from this batch? How has the Time Thief series been, since like I say I haven’t heard much about it at all. I am thinking about breaking the e-ban and getting Dead Sexy Dragon – hopefully when my I-pad comes.

New Series Alerts…and a Finale

Hard to believe that it is time yet again for another new series post, and there is quite a few to choose from. For this week, M.L. Brennan is starting her new American Vampire series with the release of Generation V.

generation vSynopsis…

Reality Bites

His mother and his older, stronger siblings think he’s crazy for wanting to get involved. So it’s up to Fort to take action, with the assistance of Suzume Hollis, a dangerous and sexy shape-shifter. Fort is determined to find a way to outsmart the deadly vamp, even if he isn’t quite sure how.

The Mist-Torn Witches from Barb Hendee is the first book of her new series, also called The Mist-Torn Witches.

the mist torn witchesSynopsis…

In a small village in the nation of Droevinka, orphaned sisters Céline and Amelie Fawe scrape out a living selling herbal medicines in their apothecary shop. Céline earns additional money by posing as a seer and pretending to read people’s futures.

But they exist in a land of great noble houses, all vying for power, and when the sisters refuse the orders of a warlord prince, they must flee and are forced to depend on the warlord prince’s brother, Anton, for a temporary haven.

A series of bizarre deaths of pretty young girls are plaguing the village surrounding Prince Anton’s castle. He offers Céline and Amelie permanent protection if they can use their “skills” to find the killer.

With little choice, the sisters enter a world unknown to them — of fine gowns and banquets and advances from powerful men. Their survival depends on catching a murderer who appears to walk through walls and vanish without a trace — and the danger around them seems to grow with each passing night.

Jean Johnson‘s Guardians of Destiny series starts with the release of The Tower. I am not quite sure how this one ties into her Sons of Destiny series.

the towerSynopsis…

In a fertile valley undisrupted by the aether-shattering death of the old Aian Empire, the Tower and its Guardians have entertained generations of wealthy mirror-scrying mages while adventurers from around the world risk their lives for fortune and fame. But on the one day the Tower stood unguarded, an intruder tried to seize the magic powering the vast structure. Now, locked out of the Tower’s innermost chambers, Kerric Vo Mos must brave the deadly traps keeping trespassers at bay in order to reclaim control.

Unfortunately, Kerric wields a pen far better than a sword, and the way into the Tower’s sanctum is treacherous. Only the help of an experienced player like Myal the Mendhite can get him to where he must go. But mutual respect will not be enough. Passion must also be employed, along with armor and weapons, as they embark on a perilous quest past monsters, riddles, and other dangers that even the Tower’s most dedicated viewers have never seen before.

Still on the adult side of things, Katie MacAlister‘s new Time Thief series makes its debut with the release of The Time Thief tomorrow.

time thiefSynopsis…

Outcast due to their ability to manipulate time, shunned by the mortal and immortal worlds alike, a Traveller’s life is anything but easy.

Peter Faa is a member of the Watch tracking down a murderer, and unfortunately, all clues seem to point toward his own estranged family of Travellers. Any of his cousins could be guilty, but which one? They’re all experts in the art of stealing time…

After surviving a lightning strike, Kiya Mortenson is determined to get just one thing in her life right. And if that means taking a job as nanny to five pugs on a campsite in the Oregon wilderness, then so be it. It doesn’t hurt that the job comes with some spectacular male eye candy, including her new boss’s gorgeous grandson. If only she didn’t keep having this strange sense of deja vu…

When Peter discovers his own family is stealing time from Kiya, all bets are off. While she may drive him crazy at times, it’s clear that it’s not just lightning that’s creating some serious sparks between them. And he’s not going to let secrets, lies, or a devious murderer keep Kiya from where she belongs: at his side.

This weeks lone Young Adult debut comes from Margaret Stohl. Icons is the first book of the new Icons series. I have been seeing this one all over the place the last few days.

iconsSynopsis…

Your heart beats only with their permission.

Everything changed on The Day. The day the windows shattered. The day the power stopped. The day Dol’s family dropped dead. The day Earth lost a war it didn’t know it was fighting.

Since then, Dol has lived a simple life in the countryside — safe from the shadow of the Icon and its terrifying power. Hiding from the one truth she can’t avoid.

She’s different. She survived. Why?

When Dol and her best friend, Ro, are captured and taken to the Embassy, off the coast of the sprawling metropolis once known as the City of Angels, they find only more questions. While Ro and fellow hostage Tima rage against their captors, Dol finds herself drawn to Lucas, the Ambassador’s privileged son. But the four teens are more alike than they might think, and the timing of their meeting isn’t a coincidence. It’s a conspiracy.

Within the Icon’s reach, Dol, Ro, Tima, and Lucas discover that their uncontrollable emotions — which they’ve always thought to be their greatest weaknesses — may actually be their greatest strengths.

And finally, this is the week of the final Sookie Stackhouse novel, Dead Ever After. There is anther supplemental book to follow from Charlaine Harris later in the year called After Dead, but for the most part this is the end for Sookie and the gang.

dead ever afterSynopsis…

There are secrets in the town of Bon Temps, ones that threaten those closest to Sookie—and could destroy her heart….

Sookie Stackhouse finds it easy to turn down the request of former barmaid Arlene when she wants her job back at Merlotte’s. After all, Arlene tried to have Sookie killed. But her relationship with Eric Northman is not so clearcut. He and his vampires are keeping their distance…and a cold silence. And when Sookie learns the reason why, she is devastated.

Then a shocking murder rocks Bon Temps, and Sookie is arrested for the crime.

But the evidence against Sookie is weak, and she makes bail. Investigating the killing, she’ll learn that what passes for truth in Bon Temps is only a convenient lie. What passes for justice is more spilled blood. And what passes for love is never enough…

So, what are you looking forward to this week? I read the excerpt for The Cursed that was released a while back and it didn’t grab my attention, and Jean Johnson is definitely not a favorite of mine, but I do find myself wondering how Icons will be. Are you going to miss Sookie books, or do you think the time has come to call it quits in Bon Temps?

How Do You Do It?

question-markI have a little issue I was wondering if anyone could help me with. Since starting this blog, I have managed to work out my technique for keeping upcoming releases straight. However, that technique has not extended to being able to keep track of the e-format novellas that are part of the print series I follow. For example, Katie MacAlister has a novella for her new Time Thief series coming out on August 6th, called Time Crossed.

So my question is, how do you find and keep track of the novellas? The only way I have been able to do so until now is by doing an author-by-author search, and that is a whole lot of searches to do on a routine basis. I would like to do a weekly, or perhaps even monthly post that could let people know what novellas are coming out for their favorite series. I know there must be an easier, faster way to find out what is coming out this month, but I just haven’t found it yet. Have you?

Penguin e-Specials

This is me, sighing.  I am so behind the times.  Turns out that Penguin Publishing has something called e-Specials, and several popular paranormal series have entries in it.  I had no clue.  Not sure if everyone else is ahead of me (er, probably), but I decided to list a few that might appeal…

  • Katie MacAlister has a story called Unleashed, and it is part of her Dark Ones series.
  • Red Blooded is a Gods of Midnight e-novella from Deidre Knight.
  • Never actually heard much about these, but Sunny has a story called Mona Lisa Three, and it is part of her Monere series.
  • This one may also be available in a print version anthology, (if I am not completely nuts), but Magic Mourns from Ilona Andrews is also available in the e-special format.
  • From Virginia Kantra comes a Children of the Earth story, called Midsummer Night’s Magic.
  • Wild About You is a new series from Vicki Lewis Thompson, and it features a short called Werewolf in Greenwich Village.
  • I have been looking forward to the new Heather Killough-Walden Lost Angels series, and I believe Always, Angel is a prequel story.
  • Moon Dance is the name of the Mageverse novella from Angela Knight.
  • From the world of Deborah Cooke‘s Dragonfire series comes Harmonia’s Kiss.
  • Eternal Embers is set in the Dragon’s Heat world, written by Tessa Adams.

There were a couple that were unrelated to the Penguin published ones above…

  • Charley Davidson returns in the short For I Have Sinned, written by Darynda Jones.
  • Early Girl Gets the Blood Wolf is a story by Michele Bardsley, part of her Broken Heart series.
  • Alyssa Day will have a Warriors of Poseidon novella coming out in October called Alejandro’s Sorceress, but I can’t seem to find any info about it other than on her official site.
  • and the upcoming Eternal Wolf Clan trilogy from Stephanie Tyler will get a prequel in the form of Dire Warning.  Again, no links available as yet.

I am not quite sure how adding the e-books to the new release pages will go, since there are just so darn many of them, and the suckers are proving slippery to track down with any sort of finesse.  It is sort of hit and miss, actually, unless I just haven’t managed to perfect my technique as yet.  What I will be doing is adding the e-books to the reading lists for any of the series already featured here, like the ones listed above.  Might take a while to get them all added, but should be straight forward enough to find.  It is a start, anyways.

Cover Lover – 5 New Titles

Seems like a big week for coverart…which means about 3 weeks to come where I can’t find any at all.  This time, I have five to add to the collection.  The first up is from Alexandra Ivy, a reprint of one of her Deborah Raleigh books.  My Lord Vampire will be out on march 6th.

Following up is one I haven’t heard of before.  Eternity’s Mark is the new one from Maeve Greyson, due out on March 27th.

Cover number three is from Stacey JayBlood on the Bayou is the second book in the Annabelle Lee series, due out on March 27th.

I do think these are pretty.  Next up from the Light Dragons series from Katie MacAlister is Sparks Fly, the third book of the series.  It should be available on May 1st.

And last up is from Cherry AdairAfterglow is the followup to Hush, and should be out on March 20th.

Random Updates

Been a while since one of these.  Not a ton to report, but still something…

  • Veil of Destruction, the next book from Shiloh Walker‘s Veil series, has been pushed way, WAY back to December of next year.  However, her Hunters book, Hunter’s Rise, is still on schedule for release on April 3rd.
  • Seduce Me In Shadows, the third Three Worlds novel from Jacquelyn Frank, will be out next September 25th.
  • Lisa Hendrix will have her next Immortal Brotherhood book, Immortal Defender (see cover in post below) coming out in August 2012.
  • The third Dark Angels book, from Keri Arthur‘s new series, will be hitting the shelves next June.  It will be called Darkness Devours.
  • Vicki Lewis Thompson continues her Wild About You series next June with the release of the third book, Werewolf in Seattle.
  • There has been a bit of a change for the next Katie MacAlister Light Dragon book.  Originally called The Curious Incident of a Dragon, it is now titled Sparks Fly.  Either way, it is due out on May 1st.
  • The next Kristina Douglas Fallen book, Warrior, will be hitting the shelves next April 24th.
  • April 3rd is now the release date for Crystalfire, part of the Demonslayers series from Kate Douglas.
  • Looks like Shelly Laurenston‘s next Pride book has a title and date.  Bear Meets Girl (featuring Crush and Cella), will be out next April.
  • and Terry Spear is still rolling along with her wolf books.  SEAL in Wolf’s Clothing is due out next March 15th.
