Cover Lover – 9 New Titles

It has been a while since my last Cover Lover post, so a few of these have already been out and around for a while. I guess new-to-me counts for something, right? Let’s start with Jennifer Ashley‘s Shifters Unbound novella collection, Shifter Mates. It is a print bind-up of Lone Wolf and Feral Heat, and it is due out on March 3rd.

This and That…

Just some random info and new release dates from out and about…

  • Shelly Laurenston will be going back to her Hunting Season world, in a manner of speaking, with a new three-book series. The new Crows book will be set in Los Angeles, with new characters and a new storyline.
  • Robin D. Owens will release her 13th Celta’s Heartmates book, Heart Fire, on November 4th.
  • It looks like the Queen Betsy series from MaryJanice Davidson just keeps chugging along. Undead & Unwary will be out on October 7th.
  • Looking for more Sookie? Dead But Not Forgotten is a collection of stories set in Bon Temps, written by authors such as Seanan McGuire, Rachel Caine, and MaryJanice Davidson. It will be out on October 7th.
  • The second book from Samantha Shannon‘s The Bone Season book, The Mime Order, will be out on October 21st.
  • Alexandra Adornetto starts up her new Ghost House Saga on August 26th with the release of Ghost House.
  • I didn’t even know the first book was part of a series, but Erin Quinn‘s second Beyond book, The Three Fates of Ryan Love, will be out on September 30th.
  • Fans of Kresley Cole‘s Arcana Chronicles series will have a little extra wait for the third book, Dead of Winter. It has been pushed back to January 6th.
  • October 7th is the release date for the next Jane Yellowrock book from Faith Hunter, and it will be called Broken Soul.
  • It is a bit of a wait for Suzanne Johnson‘s next Sentinels of New Orleans book, Pirates Alley. It is due out next April.
  • Sherrilyn Kenyon‘s sixth Chronicles of Nick book will be called Defiant, and it won’t be out until April of next year.
  • Moon Shifter #5 from Katie Reus will be called Hunter Reborn, and it is due out next February.
  • The next Kitty Norville book from Carrie Vaughn, Low Midnight, will be out at the end of this year.
  • Fans of Jaye Wells‘ Prospero’s War series will have to wait until next March for the third book, Deadly Spells.
  • Christine Feehan continues her return to super-productivity. She has finished up the next couple Sisters of the Heart books already, and the long-awaited Ghostwalker book, Viper Game. And after that, there will be a new Leopard book due called Cat’s Lair.
  • Jennifer Estep‘s Black Widow will be released November 25th. Hard to believe the Elemental Assassin series is already up to book #12. The blurb is out already…

There’s nothing worse than a cruel, cunning enemy with time to kill—and my murder to plan.

With wicked Fire elemental Mab Monroe long gone, you’d think I could finally catch a break. But someone’s always trying to take me down, either as Gin Blanco or my assassin alter-ago. Now along comes the Spider’s new arch-nemesis, the mysteriously named M. M. Monroe, who is gleefully working overtime to trap me in a sticky web of deceit.

The thing is, I’m not the only target. I can see through the tangled threads enough to know that every bit of bad luck my friends have been having lately is no accident—and that each unfortunate “coincidence” is just one more arrow drawing ever closer to hitting the real bulls-eye. Though new to Ashland, this M. M. Monroe is no stranger to irony, trying to get me, an assassin, framed for murder. Yet, as my enemy’s master plan is slowly revealed, I have a sinking feeling that it will take more than my powerful Ice and Stone magic to stop my whole life from going up in flames.

  • Sometimes my best guesses just don’t work out. I had assumed that the hero from the Ilona Andrews‘ upcoming Burn for Me would be the fire Prime, Adam Pierce. The blurb proved me wrong, though…

#1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more
dangerous desire…

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile case. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run or surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

So, that is about that for this week. Any gossip or juicy news to share?

This and That…

This is sort of a mix of everything random post. Part update, part new release info, part cover lover.

  • it looks like Karen Marie Moning‘s next Fever book, Burned, is up for pre-order on Amazon. It will be released on January 14th. Let my countdown begin.
  • also, there is a bit of info coming about Alexandra Ivy‘s new Sentinels series. The prequel novella will be part of the upcoming Predatory anthology due out on May 7th, but we now know that the first full novel will be called Born in Blood. It will be released on December 31st.
  • there will be a third book in Jacquelyn Frank‘s World of Nightwalkers series, called Forsaken. This one has a January 7th,2014 release date.
  • November 2nd is the release date for the next Sentinels book from Jennifer L Armentrout, called Sentinel. And as a bonus, there is now a release date for the next Lux book, Origin. It looks like this one will be out on August 27th. But after that, things get a little tricky. From what I am picking up, there have been some changes in two other works of hers. Nephilim Rising (written under the name J. Lynn) has had a couple of pushbacks already, but it seems that now it will be released on September 17th – in e-format only. Amazon is showing a ridiculous print date of January 1st, 2018. Uh, no. Aaand, I might be totally wrong, but it would appear that the Lux spin-off book Obsession will now be released through the Entangled: Covet imprint – which means e-format only. Damn, that is a shame. I do have hopes for a print version later on, though.
  • word has gotten around about Christine Feehan‘s upcoming Dark series trilogy, but it looks like there will be a book in between. Right now, the schedule is looking like Dark Lycan this September, Dark Wolf in January, Air Bound (from the Sisters of the Heart series) in either April or May. Then the third Dark book, Dark Hunter, in the usual September spot, and a Ghostwalker book after that (December or January).
  • the third Marie Lu Legend book, Champion, will be released on November 5th.
  • Katie Reus‘s fourth Moon Shifter’s novel, Avenger’s Heat, will be released on February 4th.

Ugh, I am getting tired of this design, and I have been looking into other templates and designs. Right now, we are on WordPress.com, but you are limited as to design. WordPress.org allows custom themes, but I dread trying to make the switch over (especially since Wicked Scribes is actually made up of something like 18 different blogs).

And on the cover front, I found this one for Jessica Shirvington‘s next Violet Eden Chronicles book, Endless. It is due out on October 1st.

February’s E-novellas…and Used E-books?

lost to the graySo, after bugging everyone about how they keep track of the ever growing e-book releases, I think I have my technique down (down-ish, maybe). I am not even going to attempt to list all of the PNR, UF and YA digital books being released, but I do hope to get a handle on the novellas that are coming for the popular print series (and some of the better known authors). I ended up using a couple of different sources and searches (thanks for the ideas, everone). This is what I came up for in February…

February 5th

February 12th

  • Kerrelyn Sparks, Pamela Palmer, Amanda Arista, Kim FalconerVampires Gone Wild (Love at Stake #13.5, Vamp City #1.5)

February 18th

February 25th

February 26th

So, what did I miss? If you can think of any novellas that I skipped, feel free to list them here.

And, on a related note, I saw a little article over on Publisher’s Weekly that had me scratching my head. It looks like Amazon has plans…to sell used e-books. Huh?

Amazon’s business model has long been dependent on resellers of used books and other merchandise. But a U.S. patent that Amazon Technologies in Reno, Nev., received last week indicates that the mega-retailer has its sights on digital resale, including used e-books and audio downloads. According to the abstract, Amazon will be able to create a secondary market for used digital objects purchased from an original vendor by a user and stored in a user’s personalized data store.

Boston-based ReDigi opened the first marketplace for pre-owned digital music, which it launched in late 2011, redigi.com. Once a lawsuit that Capitol Records filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan over the way it handles music downloads is behind it, ReDigi plans to expand into e-books and other digital items. In a press release issued yesterday, ReDigi commented that “the Amazon patent is further proof that the secondary market is the future of the digital space and that there is no turning back.”

I must admit, this seems strange to me. I guess there is a market for everything, though (and Amazon pretty much covers it all).

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

Cue evil laughter…

This is me, cackling madly.  Anyone who saw the post directly below this one (pick of the week) has already been bored by my love of Jennifer L. Armentrout‘s Lux series (and the Sentinel series, but that is a story for another day).  So, you can imagine my joy when I found the cover for her third book in the series, Opal.  And it isn’t even that long of a wait for it, since it is due out on December 11th.

*Edit – Amber has pointed out that the author has stated that this is not the official cover, even though I did find it at Amazon.com.  I am going to keep it posted just for the pretty, but things could be a changin’.

Moving on, Amazon also upped the cover for Hot Blooded, the second book from Amanda Carlson‘s Jessica McClain series.  This one is due out on April 23rd.

I am continuing my love affair with white covers.  This time it is from Katie Reus and her Moon Shifters series.  Mating Instinct will be released on March 5th.

And this final one is from author Terry Spear and her Wolf Shifter series.  A Highland Werewolf Wedding will be released sometime next year.

This and That…

Not a lot going on, but a few new things have come up this past few days…

  • The next book of the Chicagoland Vampire series from Chloe Neill will be called House Rules.  Look for it next February.

Another newbie is Kylie Griffin‘s Vengeance Born, the first book in the Light Blade series.

Synopsis…

Annika, half-blood daughter of the Na’Reish King, longs for more than her tormented life among her father’s people. Conceived in hatred and bred as a tool of retribution, she’s gifted with a special talent that can heal as well as destroy.

With the Na’Reish vastly outnumbering them, Kalan, a Light Blade warrior, knows the future of humankind depends on him alone. Incursions into human territory and raids for blood-slaves by the Na’Reish Horde have increased. As Chosen-leader, he faces the task of stopping the demons — and convincing the Council of aging Light Blade warriors that change is necessary for survival.

When Annika learns Kalan is a prisoner in her father’s dungeon, her dream of escape seems within reach. She agrees to free him in exchange for his protection once they reach human territory. Now, marked for death for helping him, Annika must learn to trust Kalan as they face not only the perilous journey to the border but enemies within the Council — and discover a shocking truth that could throw the human race into civil war…

Alliance Forged will follow on July 3rd.

I have been looking forward to this one.  Tes Hilaire‘s Deliver Me From Darkness is the first book of the Paladin Warriors series.

Synopsis…

As a powerful vampire, Roland is one of the most feared creatures of the night.  He is also a direct descendent of the original twelve Paladins, men gifted with special powers to protect the children of earth. For two hundred years Roland fought alongside his kinsmen to hold back Ganelon’s (the betrayer) army of underworld fiends. Then one of the Paladin sanctuaries is attacked. Dozens of Paladins, including the last female Paladin, are slaughtered, and Roland is turned into a vampire.

Forsaken by his brothers save one, and fighting new instincts for blood and sex, Roland believes his soul lost. His only goal is to hold on to enough humanity to sleep at night. But when his best friend delivers on his doorstep a woman who could be both an undiscovered Paladin and Roland’s bond-mate, all his self-proclaimed codes of decency are challenged.

Karissa Donovan knows the difference between good and evil, and the sexy-as-hell vampire holding her prisoner is certainly not good. Sure, he might not have sucked her dry—yet, sure his best friend is a Paladin who trusts the vampire, but that doesn’t mean she trusts him. Karissa just needs to wait for the opportunity to escape. But when all her attempts are easily thwarted, and her body betrays her by responding to Roland’s advances, Karissa knows she’s in trouble.

Then circumstances force Karissa to put her life in Roland’s hands. With each new danger they face, and each subsequent sacrifice he makes for her, she realizes that the question was never a matter of her trusting him, but of convincing him to trust in the integrity of a soul that he’d never truly lost.

Joey W. Hill moves on from her Vampire Queen series and heads into witch territory with the release of the first Arcane Shot book, Something About Witches.

Synopsis…

Ruby Night Divine is a witch who runs a gun shop. Magic can fail – she knows that first hand, having experienced it with full-blown tragic consequences, far beyond what Dr. Phil can fix. Smith & Wesson is a whole hell of a lot more reliable, and nothing’s as cathartic as the ability to put a few holes in the things that piss you off. Like Derek Stormwind.

A powerful sorcerer, Derek is determined to get to the bottom of why she pushed him away and ran three years before. He also wants her help. A coven needs training to face a demon and his army of minions. Oh sure. It’s amazing what sweet things a guy will offer to get back into a woman’s heart, and into her bed.  Only in this case, she knows he never left her heart, and in her bed is exactly where she wants him to be. Unfortunately, her bed’s already made, and she’s close to losing her soul. And not even Smith & Wesson or Derek Stormwind can fix that.

In the Company of Witches will follow on May 1st.

Aaaaand, Katie Reus is starting up her Moon Shifter series this week with the release of Alpha Instinct.

Synopsis…

Ana Cordona has been a strong leader for the lupine shifters who survived after all the males and most of the females in her pack were mysteriously poisoned. As tough as she is, with no Alpha male, the pack is vulnerable to the devious shifter Taggart, who wants to claim both their ranch and Ana as his own. When Connor Armstrong comes back into her life, promising protection, it’s almostenough to make Ana forget how he walked out on her before—and reluctantly accept his offer to mate.

The minute Connor sees Ana again, it reawakens a raw hunger. He must have her for his bondmate—his wolf cries out for it. But his human side knows he must proceed with caution because of their complicated past. If he is to truly have her body and soul, he must go beyond his burning desire and win back her heart. Whatever it takes, he is determined not to leave her side again.  But Taggart and his rival pack are not their only enemies. A human element in town is targeting shifters. Their plan not only threatens Ana and Connor’s future, but the lives of the entire pack…

Book two will be called Primal Possession, and should be available on September 4th.

Also new this week is Elisabeth Staab‘s King of Darkness, the starter book of her Chronicles of Yavn series.

Synopsis…

With no time to grieve the loss of his parents, Thad Morgan struggles to take on the role of vampire king while  battling evil Wizards and seeking out his destined mate as foretold by a century-old prophecy. But when he meets a sultry party-girl in an after-hours nightclub, he figures fate must have gotten it wrong. They are from entirely different worlds, and he is as infuriated by her stubborn nature as he is drawn to her beauty.

Isabel Anthony is an orphaned vampire who has been estranged from her own kind, masquerading among humans and taking advantage of all their nightlife – and their blood – have to offer. Having found a home in the carefree anonymity of the Florida rave scene, she is forced to flee when Thad’s sudden appearance brings mortal danger to her doorstep. As if that weren’t enough she must also master a newfound ability to freeze things, and help Thad help battle an enemy that threatens to destroy her entire race…a race she never wanted to belong to anyway.

The title of book two will be Prince of Power.

And Jory Strong‘s Inked Magic series begins with the book of the same name.

Synopsis…

Skin didn’t lie to her. It was her gift, sometimes her curse. To feel what others felt. To see the things held in their memories…With the touch of her palms to the skin of a crime victim, San Francisco tattoo artist Etaín can see the faces of the guilty and draw them. Changeling elf but unaware of it, at odds with her police captain father and FBI brother, magic and gift have put her on the path of two compelling men.

Cathal Dunne, the son of an Irish mob boss, needs Etaín’s help finding the rapists who left his cousin for dead. Eamon, a powerful elf lord, is determined to make her his consort-wife.  Her gift once made permanence impossible when it came to a lover. Now as she approaches the transition to fully Elven, her survival depends on keeping two. One of the men is willing to share her. The other isn’t—until the search for a sexual predator turns deadly—and only by paying magic’s price will there be any future at all.

For the Young Adult side of things, there are only two new series getting their start.  First up is Born Wicked from Jessica Spotswood, from her Cahill Witch Chronicles.

Synopsis…

Everybody knows Cate Cahill and her sisters are eccentric. Too pretty, too reclusive, and far too educated for their own good. But the truth is even worse: they’re witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it would mean an asylum, a prison ship—or an early grave.

Before her mother died, Cate promised to protect her sisters. But with only six months left to choose between marriage and the Sisterhood, she might not be able to keep her word . . . especially after she finds her mother’s diary, uncovering a secret that could spell her family’s destruction. Desperate to find alternatives to their fate, Cate starts scouring banned books and questioning rebellious new friends, all while juggling tea parties, shocking marriage proposals, and a forbidden romance with the completely unsuitable Finn Belastra.

If what her mother wrote is true, the Cahill girls aren’t safe. Not from the Brotherhood, the Sisterhood—not even from each other.

The final new release is from Julianna BaggottPure is the first book of the series, also called Pure.

Synopsis…

We know you are here, our brothers and sisters . . .

Pressia barely remembers the Detonations or much about life during the Before. In her sleeping cabinet behind the rubble of an old barbershop where she lives with her grandfather, she thinks about what is lost-how the world went from amusement parks, movie theaters, birthday parties, fathers and mothers . . . to ash and dust, scars, permanent burns, and fused, damaged bodies. And now, at an age when everyone is required to turn themselves over to the militia to either be trained as a soldier or, if they are too damaged and weak, to be used as live targets, Pressia can no longer pretend to be small. Pressia is on the run.

Burn a Pure and Breathe the Ash . . .

There are those who escaped the apocalypse unmarked. Pures. They are tucked safely inside the Dome that protects their healthy, superior bodies. Yet Partridge, whose father is one of the most influential men in the Dome, feels isolated and lonely. Different. He thinks about loss-maybe just because his family is broken; his father is emotionally distant; his brother killed himself; and his mother never made it inside their shelter. Or maybe it’s his claustrophobia: his feeling that this Dome has become a swaddling of intensely rigid order. So when a slipped phrase suggests his mother might still be alive, Partridge risks his life to leave the Dome to find her.

When Pressia meets Partridge, their worlds shatter all over again.

Pure will be followed first by Fuse, and then The New After.
