This and That…

There has been a bit of info coming out on some upcoming releases lately, so I thought I would do a little post showing some of the tidbits going around…

  • For some reason, I had thought that Christina Henry‘s Black Wings series was wrapping up, but it looks like a new book will be out on October 28th. This one is called Black Spring.
  • Thanks to everyone who sent me the links to J.R. Ward‘s appearance in Cincinnati, where she shared some major spoilers. One of them was that the next BDB book will be called The Shadows, and it will feature both Trez and iAm.
  • Laura Resnick‘s next Esther Diamond book, Abracadaver, will be released on November 4th.
  • Also on November 4th is the second book from Chris Marie Green‘s new Jensen Murphy, Ghost for Hire series. This one is called Another One Bites the Dust.
  • Well, Kim Harrison‘s final Rachel Morgan book is coming soon. The Witch With No Name is due out on September 9th.
  • The long delayed Walker Papers book by C.E. Murphy, Shaman Rises, will finally be released on June 24th.
  • November 25th is the release date for the Nalini Singh, Ilona Andrews, Lisa Shearin and Milla Vane (Meljean Brooks) novella, Night Shift. Nalini’s story is about Mercy’s brother Bastien, and Ilona’s is about Jim and Dali.
  • The next Sandra Hill Deadly Angels book will be called Vampire in Paradise, and it is due out on November 25th.
  • A new Deadtown novel from Nancy Holzner is also coming this year. Firestorm is due out on November 25th, as well.
  • Aimee Carter‘s second YA Blackcoat Rebellion book, Captive, will be out on November 25th.
  • It doesn’t have a title yet, but the 16th Love at Stake book from Kerrelyn Sparks will hit the shelves on December 31st.
  • Fans of J.D. Tyler‘s Alpha Pack will be glad to know that book 6, called Wolf’s Fall, will be out on December 2nd.
  • December 2nd is also the release date for Darkness Falls from Keri Arthur. It is the final book in her Dark Angels series.
  • Universal Alien from Gini Koch will also be out on December 2nd.
  • Kate Elliott starts a new series next February called The Black Wolves Trilogy. The first book is called The Black Wolves.
  • Book one of Kelley Armstrong‘s new Age of Legends series just comes out this week, but it looks like the second book will be called Empire of Night. It is due out sometime next year.
  • I have been keeping an eye out for info about Anne Bishop‘s The Others, and I finally scored. It looks like book three will be called Vision in Silver…bad news is it is due out next year. Sometime.
  • Also coming sometime in 2015 is the 4th Alpha and Omega book from Patricia Briggs. It looks like this one will be called Dead Heat.
  • The third and final book from Alexandra Bracken‘s The Darkest Minds trilogy will be called In the Afterlight, and it is due out on September 16th. She will follow it up with a new YA time travel duology, with book one being called Passenger, and book two being called Wayfarer.
  • Way off next February is Chaos Choreography, the fifth book from Seanan McGuire‘s InCryptid series.
  • Kerstin Gier will have another of her series translated into English next year with the release of Silver: The First Book of Dreams. It is due out on January 6th.
  • And the UK version of Amazon has a new Christine Feehan listing. It shows the next (and very, very long awaited) Ghostwalker book, Viper Game, as a January 25th release. I am starting the countdown as we speak.

Anything interesting? Which ones are you most excited for?

Last Week’s Book Haul…

Usually I see videos on Youtube where people list their book hauls for the past month. Yeah, I don’t think monthly would work for me, since I tend to binge buy. The books I got last week were a little of this, a little of that.

I started off with the first book of Sherry Thomas‘s new Elemental Trilogy. Reviews for The Burning Sky seem to be a bit on the mixed side, though.

the burning skySynopsis…

Just before the start of Summer Half, in April 1883, a very minor event took place at Eton College, that venerable and illustrious English public school for boys. A sixteen-year-old pupil named Archer Fairfax returned from a three-month absence, caused by a fractured femur, to resume his education.

Almost every word in the preceding sentence is false. Archer Fairfax had not suffered a broken limb. He had never before set foot in Eton. His name was not Archer Fairfax. And he was not, in fact, even a he.

This is the story of a girl who fooled a thousand boys, a boy who fooled an entire country, a partnership that would change the fate of realms, and a power to challenge the greatest tyrant the world had ever known.

Expect magic.

The second YA that arrived last week was one that I was talked into buying partly by the great reviews and partly by the great covers. I actually ordered all three books from Kerstin Gier‘s Ruby Red trilogy, but only Sapphire Blue (book two) actually arrived. It was actually on sale for something like $6.00 for the hardcover, so I thought I might as well.

sapphire blueSynopsis…

Gwen’s life has been a rollercoaster since she discovered she was the Ruby, the final member of the secret time-traveling Circle of Twelve. In between searching through history for the other time-travelers and asking for a bit of their blood (gross!), she’s been trying to figure out what all the mysteries and prophecies surrounding the Circle really mean.

At least Gwen has plenty of help. Her best friend Lesley follows every lead diligently on the Internet. James the ghost teaches Gwen how to fit in at an eighteenth century party. And Xemerius, the gargoyle demon who has been following Gwen since he caught her kissing Gideon in a church, offers advice on everything. Oh, yes. And of course there is Gideon, the Diamond. One minute he’s very warm indeed; the next he’s freezing cold. Gwen’s not sure what’s going on there, but she’s pretty much destined to find out.

There were a couple of PNR/UF that found their way to my mailbox, as well. I finally, finally broke down and bought the first book of Stacia Kane‘s Downside Ghosts series, Unholy Ghosts. I know that everyone else has already read them and loved them, but I have been trying to plow my way through my hardcover books before I commit to a new UF series. But the word about this one is so good I just couldn’t hold out any longer.

unholy ghostsSynopsis…

THE DEPARTED HAVE ARRIVED.
The world is not the way it was. The dead have risen, and the living are under attack. The powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully tattooed witch and freewheeling ghost hunter. She’s got a real talent for banishing the wicked dead. But Chess is keeping a dark secret: She owes a lot of money to a murderous drug lord named Bump, who wants immediate payback in the form of a dangerous job that involves black magic, human sacrifice, a nefarious demonic creature, and enough wicked energy to wipe out a city of souls.

Toss in lust for a rival gang leader and a dangerous attraction to Bump’s ruthless enforcer, and Chess begins to wonder if the rush is really worth it. Hell, yeah.

And my last book for this past week was A Cursed Embrace from Cecy Robson. I had the first book on my TBR mountain for a while, and when I did a random book grab one night I found myself getting quite wrapped up in the story. I just finished reading this one, and it was just as good.

a cursed embraceSynopsis…

Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other twentysomething girls—with one tiny exception: They are the products of a curse that backfired and gave each of them unique powers that made them, well, a little weird.…

After Celia Wird and her sisters help master vampire Misha save his family, their powers are exposed to the supernatural community of the Lake Tahoe region. But fame comes at a price, and being “weird” isn’t always welcome.

To make matters worse, Celia desires the love of Alpha werewolf Aric, but his pack is bent on destroying their relationship to preserve his pureblood status. And once weres start turning up dead—with evidence pointing to the vampires—she must face the prospect of losing Aric forever. But the chaos only masks a new threat. An evil known as the Tribe has risen—and their sights are set on Celia and her sisters.

What did you get for new books this week? Anything you have been excited for, or putting off getting like I did? If you read any of these, what did you think of them?

Cover Lover – Mega Edition

Wow, there has been a ton of book covers released in the last few days, most of which I got from either Goodreads or Amazon.  This first one is Black City from Christina Henry, the fifth book in the Madeline Black series, which is due out on February 26th.

I forgot to up this one last cover lover post.  Demon Hunting in a Dive Bar is the third book in Lexi George‘s Demon series, due out next February.

This first young adult cover is from the popular Morganville Vampires series.  Rachel Caine will release Fall of Night on May 7th.

Devon Monk may be wrapping up her Allie Beckstrom series, but the Age of Steam series is still going strong.  Cold Copper will be out on July 2nd.

The third book of Lynn Viehl‘s Lords of the Darkyn series, Nightbound, will be released on May 7th.

M.J. Scott‘s Half Light City series continues on April 2nd with the release of the third book, Iron Kin.

Emerald Green is the title of the third and final book in Kerstin Gier‘s Edelstein Trilogy, which is due out sometime next year.

The next Arcadia Bell novel from Jenn Bennett is called Binding the Shadows, and it will be available on May 28th.

It looks like the upcoming anthology, Enthralled, will feature a story from Lora Leigh‘s Breeds series.  There are also stories from Alyssa Day, Meljean Brook, and Lucy Monroe.  Look for it on July 2nd.

The first book from Ann Aguirre‘s (writing as A.A. Aguirre) upcoming Apparatus Infernum series, Bronze Gods, now has a cover.  It will be released on April 30th.

It looks like there was a novella from the Sharie Kohler Moon Chasers series that I totally missed.  Darkest Temptation was released on October 30th.

Still going…Darkness Bred is the second book from Stella Cameron‘s Chimney Rock series, which should be available on May 28th.

Robin D. Owens will release the next book in her Celta Heartmates series, Heart Fortune, on August 6th.

This one is…pink.  Very pink.  Hearts of Shadow is the second book from Kira Brady‘s Deadglass series, which is due out on May 7th.

And finally, the cover has been released for the second book in Bec McMaster‘s London Steampunk series.  Heart of Iron will be out on May 7th.

There were a few more, but they haven’t really been put “out there” yet, so I am holding back a bit.  Which one or ones did you like from this batch?  Any that you can’t wait to get your hands on?

Cover Lover – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Yeah, the title says it all on this one.  Starting with the good, the cover is up for the second book in Kerstin Gier‘s Ruby Red trilogy, this one called Sapphire Blue.  It is due out on October 30th.

Now, the bad is…really bad.  Like, really bad.  I had seen this one in black and white a while back, and I though that maybe it would look better in color.  Nope.  Where the holy hell is his head?!?  I do like the cut off body shot covers, but Stygian’s head is just…erased.  Huh.  Stygian’s Honor, the oft delayed Breed book from Lora Leigh, is now due out on August 7th.  I wonder if Stygian will have found a head by then?

And the ugly.  Well, ugly is too harsh, but this one is not a favorite of mine.  Karina Cooper will start up a new series called The St. Croix Chronicles this June 26th with the release of Tarnished.
