Cover Lover – Rule Breaker and Friends…

Covers, covers, covers. Looks like there are 6 newish ones for this post, both adult and young adult. Lora Leigh‘s Rule Breaker, the first of the Breeds books to come out in hardcover, will be released on February 4th.

So, what are your thoughts on this bunch? I was hoping the changed over to hardcover would mean a new design for The Breeds books, but I guess not. I have seen worse ones, but I am not a big fan of the erased/covered head shots. I don’t mind the cut off head, but the erased head just looks weird. The Shatter Me covers are all very eye catching (uh, no pun intended), but the other two YA don’t really stand out much for me.

New Series Alerts…

Another week, another New Series Alert post. Only one adult series getting its start this week, and it is called Dragon Kings from author Lindsey Piper. Book one is Caged Warrior, and there will at least two more books to follow. There was an introductory novella released in April called Silent Warrior.

caged warriorSynopsis…

Ten years ago, Audrey MacLaren chose to marry her human lover, making her an exile from the Dragon Kings, an ancient race of demons once worshiped as earthly gods. Audrey and her husband managed to conceive, and their son is the first natural-born Dragon King in a generation—which makes him irresistible to the sadistic scientist whose mafia-funded technology allows demon procreation. In the year since her husband was murdered, Audrey and her little boy have endured hideous experiments.

Shackled with a collar and bound for life, Leto Garnis is a Cage warrior. Only through combat can Dragon Kings earn the privilege of conceiving children. Leto uses his superhuman speed and reflexes to secure the right for his two sisters to start families. After torture reveals Audrey’s astonishing pyrokenesis, she is sent to fight in the Cages. If she survives a year, she will be reunited with her son. Leto is charged with her training. Initially, he has no sympathy for her plight. But if natural conception is possible, what has he been fighting for? As enemies, sparring partners, lovers, and eventual allies, Leto and Audrey learn that in a violent underground world, love is the only prize worth winning.

From the YA side of things, there is a new series from Tessa Gratton getting its start this week, as well. The Lost Sun is the first book of her new United States of Asgard series.

the lost sunSynopsis…

Seventeen-year-old Soren Bearskin is trying to escape the past. His father, a famed warrior, lost himself to the battle-frenzy and killed thirteen innocent people. Soren cannot deny that berserking is in his blood–the fevers, insomnia, and occasional feelings of uncontrollable rage haunt him. So he tries to remain calm and detached from everyone at Sanctus Sigurd’s Academy. But that’s hard to do when a popular, beautiful girl like Astrid Glyn tells Soren she dreams of him. That’s not all Astrid dreams of–the daughter of a renowned prophetess, Astrid is coming into her own inherited abilities.

When Baldur, son of Odin and one of the most popular gods in the country, goes missing, Astrid sees where he is and convinces Soren to join her on a road trip that will take them to find not only a lost god, but also who they are beyond the legacy of their parents and everything they’ve been told they have to be.

And this last one is from Amanda Sun. Ink is the first book in her Paper Gods series, but there was an introductory e-novella released earlier this month called Shadow.

inkSynopsis…

On the heels of a family tragedy, the last thing Katie Greene wants to do is move halfway across the world. Stuck with her aunt in Shizuoka, Japan, Katie feels lost. Alone. She doesn’t know the language, she can barely hold a pair of chopsticks, and she can’t seem to get the hang of taking her shoes off whenever she enters a building.

Then there’s gorgeous but aloof Tomohiro, star of the school’s kendo team. How did he really get the scar on his arm? Katie isn’t prepared for the answer. But when she sees the things he draws start moving, there’s no denying the truth: Tomo has a connection to the ancient gods of Japan, and being near Katie is causing his abilities to spiral out of control. If the wrong people notice, they’ll both be targets.

Katie never wanted to move to Japan—now she may not make it out of the country alive.

Anything catch your eye from this batch? Usually I would be jumping on Caged Warrior, but I am not a big fan of storylines where the heroine already has a child by someone other than the heroine. I will wait and see how the reviews for that one play out, I guess.

This Week’s E-Reading Spotlight…

After a quiet weekend, it looks like I came up with a few e-books and novellas being released this week. I have a couple of them listed in the New Release pages, but the others I just came across today so I didn’t add them. Coming from Bec McMaster this week is a novella from her London Steampunk series, Tarnished Knight.

tarnished knightSynopsis…

After a vicious vampire attack left him struggling to leash the dark urges of the craving virus, John “Rip” Doolan thinks he’s finally starting to master the darkness within. The only thing that threatens to shatter his hard-won control is Esme, his closest friend and the only woman he’s ever wanted. If the stubborn beauty ever realized precisely what was going through his mind, their friendship would be ruined.

For six months, Esme has waited for Rip to recover and take her as his thrall, not daring to hope for more. Too afraid to put her heart on the line, she is devastated when Rip reveals that he never had any intentions of making her his.

But when a savage gang of Slashers start causing havoc in Whitechapel, Rip and Esme have no choice. They must face up to the depth of the passion that burns between them and forge a new relationship…or risk losing each other forever.

And from Virna DePaul comes A Vampire’s Salvation. From what I can tell this one falls on the more erotic side of things.

a vampire's salvationSynopsis…

Francesca Marie Stewart has never wanted any man as much as she wants Jake Rios. His chiseled body and dark, intensely masculine energy draw her like a moth to a flame. But Frankie has been burned before, and now a mysterious figure from her troubled past has resurfaced with a terrifying new threat. Can she trust Jake not only with her heart but with her very life?

Jake’s hunger to possess this beautiful redhead goes beyond searing desire. He’s a vampire, and his very existence depends on bonding with a mate. He aches to ravish Frankie, but he must take it slow—for what he will ask of her will require profound sacrifice even as it gives her unimaginable pleasure. And once he has claimed her—body and soul—Jake will go to any lengths to protect her.

Also new this week is Tempest from Kelly Meding. It is part of her MetaWars series.

tempestSynopsis…

The public doesn’t trust them. The government wants to control them. Being a superhero has never been this hard, especially for Tempest.

Two months after the discovery of the powerful, non-Meta Recombinants, the former Rangers—Meta-powered humans dedicated to preserving the peace—have made no progress in uncovering the newcomers’ origins, or convincing the public to trust them. Newly powered Metas are popping up and causing trouble, while the former Banes—Metas who harm humans and create chaos—show no inclination that they even want to leave the island prison of Manhattan. With a presidential election looming, the hot political debate is all about Meta rights—and whether they deserve to have any.

Still haunted by the murder of so many in the Meta War fifteen years earlier, Ethan “Tempest” Swift accepts an assignment in Manhattan, working with a team that’s interviewing Banes to determine which are still threats and which have reformed. But Ethan has a personal reason for going to the island as well. Armed with questions for the Bane who just might be his father, Ethan’s quest for answers is interrupted by an unexpected assault on the island. Forced to side with old enemies to uncover who’s responsible for the devastating attack, Ethan begins to question more than just his past—he questions his place in defending a world that sees him as its enemy.

Lindsey Piper starts her new Dragon Kings this week with the release of the prequel novella, Silent Warrior.

silent warriorSynopsis…

An exciting, emotionally charged prequel to “The Dragon Kings” trilogy, featuring warriors fighting for their lives in violent Cage matches to guarantee their clans’ survival.

A silent woman ashamed of her criminal background becomes a Cage warrior to seek redemption. An unrepentant fortune hunter chooses combat over death to appease a mafia family. Although rivals in battle, they find common ground when seeking their clan’s stolen idol, but for vastly different reasons. Neither one suspects that love will begin when he becomes the first man in five years to hear her speak.

I didn’t know that Entangled Publishing had created a new paranormal e-book line, but  it seems that the Covet Imprint gets its start this week. The first one comes from Kendra Leigh Castle, and it is called The Demon’s Song.

the demon's songSynopsis…

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. At least, that’s how it seems to Sofia Rivera when her attempt to help a friend ends in a blood-soaked confrontation with creatures that aren’t even supposed to exist. With a group of rogue vampires determined not to leave a single witness to their violence hot on her heels, Sofia finds herself saddled with an immortal bodyguard—Phenex, the fallen Angel of Song.

While the vampire king roots out the corruption threatening to take down his underworld kingdom, Sofia will have to deal with a fallen angel whose dark beauty is often at odds with his ornery nature. Slowly, Sofia and Phenex give in to the strange attraction neither can deny. And as the darkness closes in around them, Phenex begins to wonder whether even the wickedest Fallen might find his own happy ending…and his heart.

And the second book of Entangled: Covet’s new line is The Awakening: Aidan by Abby Niles.

the awakening aidanSynopsis…

Is the gift of eternal love a blessing or a curse?

After years of counseling grieving shifters, psychiatrist and half-shifter, Dr. Jaylin Avgar has become jaded on shifter mating. She wants to marry a human and forget about the love for eternity crap. Then she meets Aidan O’Connell, an infuriatingly laid back shifter who represents everything she doesn’t want. Yet, the more he pursues her, the more she craves a future with him. Only one thing stands in her way: death. Can she overcome her fear of losing Aidan to the one guarantee in life?

Millionaire consultant, Aidan O’Connell knows he’ll one day meet a woman who’ll awaken an unrelenting mating instinct. Unfortunately, that woman is Jaylin, who has no qualms about telling him that he and his so-called eternity can shove it. When she pushes him away, he takes a drastic step so she can no longer escape. The close proximity throws the instinct into overdrive. Can he control the need engrained in him until he’s certain she will reciprocate the bond, or will a moment of weakness doom him to hell on earth?

So, are any of these on your wish-list for this week? I was surprised to see the new Entangled line, especially since they seem to have so much trouble getting their print titles released on time, but maybe it is a step in the right direction.

Cover Lover – 6 New Titles

Most of these new covers were grabbed from good old Amazon, but I did get a couple from Goodreads, too.  I have been seeing a lot of hype for the new Leigh Evans Mystwalker series, and now the cover for the second book has been released.  The Thing About Weres will be released on July 30th.

Gini Koch‘s Katherine Katt series continues with the May 7th release of Alien in the House.  This one is fun.
