Cover Lover – 6 New Titles

Let me start today’s little cover post by saying that WordPress is, once again, acting wonky. The comments feature is what seems to be funky – it looks like long-time posters are randomly being put into moderation for comment approval. Sometimes one comment is approved, the next one is moderated, and the third approved. Looks like the powers that be are “upgrading” again (god help us all).

So, I go home from work a few minutes ago and I had not one, not two, but three emails telling me that the cover for Karen Marie Moning‘s next Fever series/Dani O’Malley book, Burned, was out. Thanks all, ’cause I have been looking forward to it. It wasn’t quite what I expected, but then I was thinking of a fiery version of the first cover for Iced, and I sort of had my heart set on that. This isn’t bad, though…

And this second one is the paperback version of Christine Feehan‘s Dark Storm. Way, WAY better than the hardcover, if I do say so myself. Not sure about the funky looking little dragon, but at least all of that…that…goldy colored stuff has been scraped off.

Now, this third cover was sent to me by Marcia, so many thanks once again. Ritual Magic is from the World of the Lupi series from Eileen Wilks, and it will be released on August 6th. This is another series that has consistently good covers, which just makes some of the awful ones seem unnecessary.

These next two have the same sort of grungy vibe going on. First up is Hellhound, the next book in Nancy Holzner‘s Deadtown series. It will be released on October 29th.

And the story of October Daye continues in Seanan McGuire‘s Chimes at Midnight, which will be on the shelves on September 3rd.

Untitled-6

And the final one for today is the lone young adult cover. Eternity is book three in Elizabeth Miles‘ Fury trilogy, and it will be released on September 3rd.

Random Updates…

Still doing the updating of the series reading list section (and also the finished series page), and I did come across a little bit more info for this post.  Did you know…

  • The Beautiful Creatures movie has just finished wrapping filming, but it looks like Kami Garcia will have another project coming to the big screen – one that hasn’t even been published yet.  Unbreakable, the first book in her upcoming The Legion series, is in development as we speak.  The book will be released sometime next year.
  • The third book of J.T. Geissinger‘s Night Prowler series, Rapture’s Edge, will be out on July 9th.
  • Donna Grant‘s Dark Warriors series will continue on through the end of 2013.  Midnight’s Temptation (book 7) will be out next November, and it will be followed by Midnight’s Promise (book 8) the following month.
  • There is good news for fans of the Hex Hall series from Rachel Hawkins.  There will be a spin off series called, well, the Hex-Hall Spin off series, starting up sometime next year.  The first book will be called School Spirits.
  • The third Sentinels of New Orleans book from Suzanne Johnson, Elysian Fields, will be released on August 13th.
  • August 8th will be the release date for the second Aether Chronicles book from Suzanne Lazear, Charmed Vengeance.
  • There has been a lot of buzz about Sarah J. MaasThrone of Glass, and it looks like the as-yet untitled second book will be released next September 12th.
  • Another one that seemed to be very well received was Falling to Ash by Karen Mahoney.  Well, the second book, Hunting the Dark, has been pushed back to a 2014 release.
  • Seanan McGuire will be writing one October Daye book a year through 2016.  The Chimes at Midnight will be out next September, The Winter Long will be released in 2014, A Red Rose Chain will follow in 2015, and Once Broken Faith will only be out in 2016.
  • I did my nerdy little squeal when I saw that the fourth Bloodlines novel from Richelle Mead will be called The Fiery Heart.  The only release info was that it would be out sometime next year.  Boo.

That’s it.  Back to the updating, which I hope to have done by the end of next week.  Hopefully.

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

Seven noobies for this post (well, a couple have been around for a few days, but I waited until I had more to post).  Most of these came from Goodreads, and a couple from All Things Urban Fantasy – many thanks.  This first one is from Seanan McGuire and her InCryptid series.  Midnight Blue-Light Special is due out on March 5th.

This next one comes from Amanda Bonilla‘s Shaede Assassin series.  Crave the Darkness also has a release date of March 5th.

I have never gotten into the Queen Betsy series, but the covers are fun, at least.  MaryJanice Davidson‘s Undead and Unsure will be out the middle of next year.

Tessa Adams starts up a new series, Lone Star Witch, with the release of Soulbound on February 5th.

This one is a bit…disappointing, I guess.  It has potential, but looks like someone just sort of gave up and never finished it.  Betrayed by Shadows is showing as an e-book only release for Nancy Gideon, and it will be released on December 18th.

From the young adult isle, there are a couple of new ones, too.  Jessica Therrien‘s Uprising, part of her Children of the Gods series, will be released next spring.

And this final one is from Cynthia Hand.  It is the Australian cover for Boundless, part of the Unearthly series, and it is due out this coming January.  I usually wouldn’t include this one, but it was so pretty I just had to.  It is actually my favorite cover I have seen in a while, and I am having total cover envy for this one.

Cover Lover – 9 New Titles

A new batch of updating means a new batch of discovered covers.  There is sort of a mixed bag this go round, too.  This first one has been out for a while, but I just noticed it.  Ashes of Honor is the 6th book in Seanan McGuire‘s October Daye series, due out on September 4th.

This next one comes from author Wendy Delsol and her Stork series.  Flock is the third book of the trilogy, due out on September 11th.

Number three is also from the young adult world.  Fragile Darkness is the third book in the Midnight Dragonfly series from Ellie James, and it should be released on November 27th.

I thought this one was kinda fun.  Incarnation is the first book from Emma Cornwall, due out on September 18th.

I am looking very forward to this one.  Mate Claimed, from Jennifer Ashley, will be shifter Alpha Eric’s story.  It will be out on October 2nd.

I was surprised that there is nothing about this upcoming series over on Goodreads.  Susannah Sandlin starts her new Penton Legacy series this June 19th with the release of Redemption.

Meh, this isn’t the best quality, but it will do until I track down a better version.  The third book from Sara Humphreys‘ Amoveo Legend series will be called Untamed, and will be released on November 1st.

Lydia Dare continues her Westfield Wolves series with the release of Wolfishly Yours, due out on November 1st.

And finally, the third book from Donna Grant‘s new Dark Warriors series (a spin-off series from her Dark Warriors books), will be called Midnight’s Seduction.  This one is due out on October 30th.

New Series Alert…

This is a big week for new series, both on the adult and young and young adult side of things.  Kris DeLake debuts her Assassin’s Guild series with the release of Assassins in Love.

Synopsis…

Next up is Geared for Pleasure from Rachel Grace.  It is the first book of the Elemental Steam series.

Fiery Temptations

As the Queen’s Sword, Cyrus should have known better than to fall victim to a beautiful bandit. Now, to find and retrieve the moonfire dagger, he’ll need to convince Phina not to judge a man by his station, but by how completely he can satisfy her desires.

Also new this week is Discount Armageddon, the first book from Seanan McGuire‘s InCryptid series.

Synopsis…

Discount Armageddon introduces us to Verity Price, journeyman cryptozoologist, ballroom dancer, and former reality television star. She’s on assignment in Manhattan, researching the local cryptid community while she pursues her dance career.

It’s a cushy assignment…at least until local cryptids start disappearing, and all signs start pointing to a man from the Covenant of St. George. But is Dominic De Luca really to blame? And if she casts her suspicions in the wrong place, is she going to survive the experience?

Book two will be released in 2013.

The next one up is from Stephanie TylerDire Needs is the first book in the Eternal Wolf Clan series.

Synopsis…

Rifter leads the pack, embracing the lifestyle and ethics of an outlaw biker even as he battles an ancient enemy who has become a new, powerful force. But with his Brother Wolf raging inside him, howling to be unleashed, he needs to satisfy his hungers. And when he meets a drop-dead gorgeous blonde drinking alone in a bar that caters to both human and inhuman, Rifter’s primal instinct is to claim her.

Gwen has her own desires, long unfulfilled. She hopes a passionate night with the leather-clad, Harley-riding biker will ease her suffering. The seizures that have wracked her body her entire life are incurable—and they’re killing her.

But none of that will matter if Rifter can’t stop the growing threat to them all–trappers who are determined to enslave humankind and use the Dire wolves as part of their nefarious plan.

There will be at least two more books and one novella in the series, as well.

From the word of young adult, there are a few new one, as well.  Aimee Agresti‘s Illuminate is the first book in the Gilded Wings series.

Synopsis…

Haven Terra is a brainy, shy high school outcast. But everything begins to change when she turns sixteen. Along with her best friend Dante and their quiet and brilliant classmate Lance, she is awarded a prestigious internship in the big city— Chicago—and is sent to live and work at a swanky and stylish hotel under the watchful eyes of a group of gorgeous and shockingly young-looking strangers: powerful and alluring hotel owner Aurelia Brown; her second-in-command, the dashing Lucian Grove; and their stunning but aloof staff of glamazons called The Outfit.

As Haven begins falling for Lucian, she discovers that these beautiful people are not quite what they seem. With the help of a mysterious book, she uncovers a network of secret passageways from the hotel’s jazz-age past that leads her to the heart of the evil agenda of Aurelia and company: they’re in the business of buying souls. Will they succeed in wooing Haven to join them in their recruitment efforts, or will she be able to thwart this devilish set’s plans to take the souls of her classmates on prom night at the hotel?

No word yet on following books.

Claudia Gray starts her Evernight spin-off series this week with the release of Balthazar.

Synopsis…

Haunted by memories from his first days as a vampire, Balthazar has spent hundreds of years alone—without allies, without love. When he emerges from his isolation to help Skye Tierney, a human girl who once attended Evernight Academy, Balthazar has no idea how dangerous it will be. Skye’s psychic powers have caught the attention of Redgrave, the cruel master vampire responsible for murdering Balthazar and his family four centuries ago.

Having learned of Skye’s powers and the remarkable effect her blood has on vampires, he plans to use her for his own evil purposes. As they stand together to fight the evil vampire, Balthazar realizes his lonely world could finally be changed by Skye…just as Redgrave realizes that he can destroy Balthazar once and for all by taking her for his own.

This is also the release date for the fourth Evernight book, Afterlife, in MMP.

I am looking forward to this one.  Embrace, the first book of The Violet Eden Chronicles from Jessica Shirvington, has gotten great reviews so far from what I have seen, but I think it is the pretty cover that caught my eye.  I am so easy.

Synopsis…

Violet Eden is dreading her seventeenth birthday dinner. After all, it’s hard to get too excited about the day that marks the anniversary of your mother’s death. The one bright spot is that Lincoln will be there. Sexy, mature and aloof, he is Violet’s idea of perfection. But why does he seem so reluctant to be anything more than a friend?

After he gives her the world’s most incredible kiss – and then abandons her on her front doorstep – Violet is determined to get some answers. But nothing could have prepared her for Lincoln’s explanation: he is Grigori – part angel and part human – and Violet is his eternal partner.

Without warning, Violet’s world is turned upside down. She never believed in God, let alone angels. But there’s no denying the strange changes in her body … and her feelings for Lincoln. Suddenly, she can’t stand to be around him. Luckily, Phoenix, an exiled angel, has come into her life. He’s intense and enigmatic, but at least he never lied to her.

As Violet gets caught up in an ancient battle between dark and light, she must choose her path. The wrong choice could cost not only her life, but her eternity…

Random Updates…

I am done!  I finally, finally got the Series reading list section “done” – er, done-ish?  It is at least up to date, including all of the authors listed on the new release pages.  It took longer than I had thought, but I hope it comes in handy.  As always, let me know if anything needs work.

Also, I am doing up a section for Darynda Jones.  It should be up and running within the next couple of days, and I will be doing a character guide for the Charley Davidson series, as well.  I have the first book done, so I think I will just up what info I have and add the second book stuff when I get it done (hopefully before the third book is released at the end of the month).  Right now, I am on a Mercedes Thompson marathon – and loving it – but I will try and take a break to do Second Grave on the Left.

I can’t believe how fast the time has gone, the best part of a week since my last post.  Anyhow, these are just two covers that have been making the rounds the last week or so, but thought I would up them, too.  Better late than never, and all those cliched things…

Spotlight on…Seanan McGuire

Seanan McGuire is the author of the October Daye series, and the fourth book from it will be called Late Eclipses.  It should be available the first of March, 2011, and follows Rosemary and Rue, A Local Habitation, and An Artificial Night.  It will be followed by book five, the Brightest Fell sometime next September.

Two years ago, October “Toby” Daye believed she could leave the world of Faerie behind. She was wrong. Now she finds herself in the service of Duke Sylvester Torquill, sharing an apartment with her Fetch, and maintaining an odd truce with Tybalt, the local King of Cats. It’s a delicate balance—one that’s shattered when she learns that an old friend is in dire trouble. Lily, Lady of the Tea Gardens, has been struck down by a mysterious, seemingly impossible illness, leaving her fiefdom undefended.

Struggling to find a way to save Lily and her subjects, Toby must confront her own past as an enemy she thought was gone forever raises her head once more: Oleander de Merelands, one of the two people responsible for her fourteen-year exile. But if Oleander’s back, what’s her game? Where is she hiding? And what part does Toby’s mother, Amandine, have to play?

Time is growing short and the stakes are getting higher. For the Queen of the Mists has her own agenda, and there are more players in this game than Toby can guess. With everything on the line, she will have to take the ultimate risk to save herself and the people she loves most—because if she can’t find the missing pieces of the puzzle in time, Toby will be forced to make the one choice she thought she’d never have to face again…
