Site Updates…and I Feel Dirty

So, today is the day for my pick of the week, except I don’t actually have one. So scratch that. Then I thought I could post some newsy stuff, except I haven’t found anything that grabbed me. Instead, looks like I will do a little site update post instead.

  • I have gotten a few emails asking when certain character guides will be updated to include the most recent book in whichever series. I got really, really behind when I was doing the Kate Daniels guide, because I set a deadline and had to work on it for a long time to get it done by that date. I am going through the list and updating them in order so I don’t miss any, so best I can say is that they are in progress. Promise.
  • Quite a while back, I started changing the links on the Series Reading List pages from Amazon.com to Goodreads, and that is still chugging along. I am about half way through, so it might be odd if one link takes you one place, and the next link takes you to the other. I also took the opportunity to do a little tweaking here and there, and to be honest I deleted some authors. I got rid of the ones that either you never hear about, or have some obscure series from way back when and never did anything else. Hopefully I didn’t get rid of anyone’s favorites, but it did need a clean up.
  • Oh, and I am still in the process of updating the author pages to include all works by that author, whether paranormal or not. And that leads me to the whole feeling dirty part. I just finished the Lora Leigh page, and I have to admit that I felt like a perv for a good part of it. Some of those covers made me cringe to upload to my blog, honestly. I would only add the covers late at night, in case my father wandered by and wondered what kind of kink I was into. I seriously considered skipping her section. So, if you check it out, be warned – some seriously hideous cover art awaits.
  • On a personal note, I finished watching the first season of Bitten…and I liked it. There were a few changes, but that didn’t bother me. I can only say I had three issues. One – Elena was a bitch to Clayton for longer than I thought she needed to be. Two – Logan’s girlfriend was too damn stupid to live. Everytime she was told to stay somewhere, she left and was promptly kidnapped. Every. Damn. Time. What part of STAY was hard to grasp? And Three – what was Nick wearing? Seriously, I got a seventies porn star vibe from his whole wardrobe. Skin tight red pants and his mom’s green polka dot shirt? This was actually preferable…

NickOk, what are you up to this week? Anything exciting?

Where did u leave off in the guild hunters character guide and the midnight character guide. I read tempted by midnight and made a character guide for that book. I took some of the characters you had in the midnight guide and added the characters that made an appearance in that book and added new ones. and is hoping to reread Nates book and make a guide for that. I’ll send it to you when I’m done. And I have started character guides for Gena showalter’s Lords of the Underworld I am up to Sabin’s book and will try to finish the guide by the end of the year. and I had started one for G.A. Aiken’s Dragon Kin series. I’m in the middle of Last Dragon standing but Ragnar and Keita’s book is so boring that I had to stop for a while.

I usually have only the last book of each series to update, or at least I think so. Sounds like another fan of doing the guides, which is great.

I know what you mean about the Lora Leigh books. I have to hide those on the back of the shelves so my sons (12 & 13) don’t see some of them! And forget if they’re on the Kindles — I am SOOO glad they came up with that freetime app for parents to control what the kids have access to!

Good lord, some were ugly, but some were just flat out..wrong. I would feel strange my father seeing them, so I can only imagine if your sons caught you. They would be mighty hard to explain.

I’ve watched Bitten as well and I had the same reactions to Nick and Rachel (was that her name?) But I never read the books so I don’t know how many changes were made, but I didn’t like the whole Elena/Clay/Philip dynamic – it went on for waaay to long and then she went and cheated on Philip…argh!

    • kaleigha says:

Elena was actually the weakest part for me…I can see being torn between Clay and Phillip (much more so than the book, actually), but like you I wish it would’ve wrapped up a bit sooner.

This has been a slow book week so I did some rereads. One book I reread was Shield of Winter. Loved it overall again but found myself asking the same question as during my first read, ‘is this book a little inconsistent?’ It seems to me that when Judd and some of the other strong Talents (men and women) were getting romantic, they had lots more trouble. Even a single thought of romance make them almost faint (usually the ladies) or break things. They had to seriously work there way up to a touch let along more serious stuff. Now I’m finding a much more rapid transition through those first stages of nonSilent thoughts and simple touch. The only issue Vasic had was the porting during the sex. I know overall Silence fell, but I thought there was the big deal about strong arrow type talents needing it to stay in controll. So I guess I didn’t think it would be so easy a transition. Obviously this couple had a lot of other stuff to occupy their minds and time. But it seemed like she dropped some of the stumbling blocks, maybe to create a more concise story.

I can’t remember the name, but I do remember it being this big deal. The first books had the Psy women slowly working up to a simple touch from the changeling men without passing out. Hmm..but I think it was determined that maybe that was just all in their minds? Brainwashing or something from the government? That doesn’t account for the arrow types. Didn’t someone get nosebleeds Everytime he broke protocol and kissed or touched his love interest?

I think that one was Faith…she had really never had much in the way of physical contact, so her system shut down. If I remember correctly, it was a physical construct in their brains that caused severe pain whenever any sort of emotion developed. The pain was so bad, they caused brain bleeds, passing out, that sort of thing. Maybe the ones with more destructive abilities had more limits put on them, or something like that?
