Sherrilyn Kenyon News…

Like Sherrilyn Kenyon isn’t prolific enough, it looks like she is adding yet another series to her already impressive collection. Pheonix sent over word that she will be releasing a historical fantasy trilogy through TOR called Deadman’s Cross. The synopsis was upped to Facebook…

Hell On Earth.
When the Chthonians brought the primal gods to a truce at the end of their great war, part of the pact they forged was that the worst of the evil the gods had unleashed against each other and mankind would be forever banished. But forever is a long time. And nothing can contain those determined to find a way back.
To catch evil, it takes evil.
While Thorn is able to contain the demons unleashed on the ground, the ones who prey on the innocent sailors and sea faring travelers are beyond his reach.
For the sake of humanity, he makes a shaky alliance with an old foe, Marcelina. In the form of the ship they sail upon, she assembles a team under the command of Captain Devlyn Nathaniel Bane, one of the most notorious and bloodthirsty pirates to ever sail the high seas.
Damned and murdered by his own, Bane is out for revenge. With his own secret agenda, he agrees to take charge of the motley crew of damned pirates and brigands, and to protect the seas from the preternatural terrors that seek to devour every unwary soul they can take.
Theirs is a sacred and deadly task, as they are hunted by their prey and human authorities alike. If they fail, the world will fall to the ancient gods of chaos, and anarchy will reign. Most of all, the Southern gate, where the greatest, most powerful darkness is imprisoned, will be opened and there will be no stopping it.
It’s yo ho ho and a bottle of high seas stakes where the souls of all humanity are the ultimate prize and bargaining chip.
So, anyone else surprised that Kenyon is adding yet another series to her already packed line-up? This one sounds like it is a bit on the different side, too, which is a bonus. From what was said in the Facebook post, she has been working on it since 2006, so it isn’t a spur of the moment thing. Does it sound like something you will be checking out?

I can’t wait. I love Thorn to begin with. To see him at work will be great. I have to wonder if it ties in with the DH series somehow. Pirates? Love them as much as I love vikings.

  2. Lidy says:

I’ll definitely read it. Not only because it sounds like something new, but because I have the feeling it’ll impact the Dark-Hunters big time. And I love Thorn.

PhoenixFire, since it’s part of the Hellchasers, I’d say it ties with the Dark-Hunter – mainly because Noir and Azure seem to be the big baddies.

    • PhoenixFyre says:

Because Noir is Thorn’s grandfather. what a combo huh? But it seems it will e centered around another character. Captain Devlyn Nathaniel Bane. I wonder if he was related to Bane from CON. We’ll see I guess.

I was thinking on the lines of Chthonians, Primus Bellum and Noir-and-Azura-trying-to-get-free but the Thorn-Noir connection works, too. 😀 In fact, I was hoping this series would shed a light on the Malachai and the prophecy about Bathymaas.

I thought the same about Bane (can’t help but love him – too bad he didn’t have a bigger role in CON, especially after last book), but I think this guy’s human (or the result of a demon-human match). *THE* Bane seems to be the embodiement of Pestilence.

Now, this Marcelina… no idea. Wonder if we’ll meet Ash, Simi, Jean-Luc, Savitar, Zebulon and Adarian. Also, the timeline. It’s historical, but set in […?]. So far, there’s nothing about it on her website (not even a placeholder page).

        • PhoenixFyre says:

Maybe Jean-Luc since he was a pirate. I think if it has to do with Thorn, it will be more of the Hellchasers than anyone else. Plus we really haven’t met many of the HC’s. Only Zeke, Jack, Ravenna, Cael and Amaranda and Tristan. But three of the six were still new.

          • Lidy says:

And Wynter. Carl’s confirmed on SK’s website she is the same Wynter Laguerre from Bad Moon Rising and CON (as an aside, the question was asked by someone named PhoenixFyre page ). Maybe it’s a result of Nick’s interference, but my brain is in knots. LOL

There’s some history between Savitar and Thorn – their exchange in BMR was too edgy not to (and I have the feeling the Chthonians were created to patrol the primal gods), so I hope Savitar and Zebulon are at least mentioned.

            • PhoenixFyre says:

The Chthonians were created by the Light Primal gods to police the gods. And we recently found out that Savitar is over 3,000 years older than Acheron. And we know that Noir is Thorn’s grandfather.

              • Lidy says:

I think the Chthonians were created to patrol the primal gods themselves (and since the Light gods were good, that left Braith, Noir and Azura). After all, the whole reasoning in killing a god without affecting the balance wouldn’t be necessary if there was a greater god (like Ash not killing Apollo because of his connection to the sun, when the Greeks destroyed two other pantheons who also had sun gods). Seems a little… blah. And SK’s confirmed on Goodreads half a theory (!) about Ash, so I think a Chthonian is involved somehow. LOL

Re:Chthonians. Zebulon is 25,000 years old. I guess Ash and Styxx are the two youngest at 11,000. Now, Savitar is older than Artemis & Apollo (and they’re over 250,000) – which makes sense, since he was the Chthonian responsible for the Atlantean pantheon*. I’d guess he’s at least of an age with Jaden, Jared and Caleb. In “House of the Rising Son,” Bathymaas created her army to protect humans during the Chthonians war. I think Savitar was one of these Chthonians.

On the page for the first book in the series, SK lists Ash, Mennie, Rafael (*yeah baby*), Jean-Luc and a few others. I have the feeling I’ll like this Marcelina.

                * Considering he and Apollymi have a history, I’d guess that’s why he was chosen/appointed/something else, and why she went to him to protect Ash.

                I need a timeline. A detailed one.

                • PhoenixFyre says:

Savitar is only three thousand years older than Acheron. He wasn’t even in existence during the Primal Belam. Both Carl and SK told us that recently. As for a timeline, SK is putting one together but Carl said it was huge. But we should hear something about it soon. SK had to put one together for both CON and DH for the movies and TV show. I am currently editing a CON character guide right now and hopefully it will be posted here within a week. Then I will do Dark-Hunter and the The League.

                  • Lidy says:

                    Only 3,000? Savitar disappoints me.

I saw the timeline question on her Facebook – Carl said it would be unlikely it saw the light of day before the series ended… and it was over a thousand pages and highly spoiler-ish. I don’t really mind.

                    • PhoenixFyre says:

Yep! But SK has to use the Timeline for both the TV show and Movies. Savitar is only over 14,000 somewhat years old. Unless he is also reincarnated.

  3. Lidy says:

Really? OMG, I always mentioned he was one of the first Chthonians (and his part in OSN kind of confirmed it to me) LOL

There’s the possibility of Savitar being someone’s reincarnation… OR Savitar isn’t his real name; a bunch of primal gods (Cam, Rezar and Braith) have walked around for ages without anyone suspecting them.

The timeline for the TV show/movies will take forever to be released. Carl said the file is huge to be made available online. Which’s a pity. We could really use them. BTW, what do you think of Nekoda as Nick’s mate in the main series?

    • PhoenixFyre says:

I know Savitar is something else. He admitted it to Apollymi and she is the only one who knows who and what he is. He is about 14,000 years old. As for the Timeline, Carl is working on it. He announced before Instinct was released. The oldest Chthonian is Zebulon who is 25, 000. But Savitar was NOT one of the first. He wasn’t even born during the Primus Belam war. Carl said to me the other day that Savitar was only a little of 3, 000 years older than Acheron.
