Upcoming from Thea Harrison

I was hoping to find the official blurb for Thea Harrison‘s upcoming third Moonshadow book, Lionheart, when I stumbled across an announcement for an all new trilogy set in the Elder Races world. Hm, interesting.

Last winter, Thea was one of four authors who contributed to the Amid the Winter Snow anthology, and I really enjoyed her story, The Chosen. Only loosely connected to the main Elder Races series, it had a different feel to it that I very much enjoyed. I remember at the time hoping that that one novella wasn’t going to be all we saw of that world…and it isn’t. Her new series will be set in the Other land of Ys, and it will feature all-new characters. It will be called the Maelstrom series, and the first full book will be called Queen of Treason. There isn’t a firm release date as yet, but it looks at this point like it will be at least a trilogy.

All of that is good news, but it still made me wonder a bit. As much as I love a good spin off, it feels like there is so many stories left to tell in both the original Elder Races and the more recent Moonshadow series. I especially thought that the Daoine Sidhe knights introduced in the first Moonshadow book had tons of potential, along with finishing up stories for the original Elder Races sentinels like Grym and Alexander. I guess what I am mumbling about is that while I am very grateful to get more stories set in this new world, I hope it doesn’t come at the expense of the characters we have already met in previous works.

How about you? Are there any more Elder Races/Moonshadow stories you are hoping for?

    I agree.
I’m really excited about the new trilogy, but—I’ve written this in my comment on the announcement in her blog, too—she’d said in the spring that she was going to do a final trilogy for Elder Races and that it was going to be mainly in NY. So I was hoping that the three novels will be for Grym, Alexander and Bayne.
She didn’t say anything about that in the recent post, but I really, really hope she’s going to do it, and in the next few years or so.

For me, I would be happy with those three and then finish things in the main series off. I don’t really remember any other characters (except for Liam, after a while), that I would need a story for. But the Moonshadow series had a ton of characters that had potential.

Definitely Liam, and wrap up the rest of the Sentinels. And was it me, or did the last novella seem really good up until Pia was rescued, then it was a rushed job on oh, by the way, this is what ended up happening with them. The end. It was like Thea felt the novella was too short, so let’s just do a quick summary about where the rest of their lives are going to go, and that’s it. It was rather disappointing.

I felt like it was a bit rushed, too – like there was more to come, but it was the wrap up of that arc. It would be great to see how things shape up for them in the new lands, though.

I think she wrote on the same blog post that she wasn’t going to do a book on Liam. She tried, but decided Young Adult wasn’t for her.
So if she is to write one for him, a time jump might be a must. If so, maybe it should be a different, spin-off series from Elder Races?

That’s what I am thinking, too. No matter how you cut it, Liam is only a couple of years old – and that weirds me out.
