Pick of the Week

Let’s start with the confession, first. I am a fan of the Breeds. I have been for a long time, since way back in the days of the horrible Elora’s Cave covers – remember those computer generated monstrosities? They are now slowly being re-released with new covers for the digital downloads, thank God, but I digress. Even through the bad covers, the horrible editing and total character 180s from book to book, I have been a fan. But for some reason, I was never one who was all gung-ho on getting a Cassie story. I didn’t not want it, but there were just other Lora Leigh characters that interested me more. But as the release date has gotten closer, I have found myself more intrigued by Cross Breed, making it my pick of the week.

cross breedSynopsis…

The Breeds are humans altered before conception with the DNA of the predators of Earth. But although they all carry the genetic material of beasts within them, Cassandra Sinclair stands apart. A unique mix of wolf, coyote and human, she is revered by many—but preyed upon by others. She is fiercely protected by her community…but no one manages to stop her when she slips away one day to offer her body in exchange for her sister’s safety.

The man she succumbs to surprises her by unleashing her inner animal in ways she never dreamed possible—and provokes her deep, furious rage. To Cassie’s shock, he is the mate she has long awaited. She may never be able to forgive his deception. Still, as dangerous enemies track her, and as the threat of all-out war between Breeds and the humans who despise them hovers in the air, they must join forces and hold fast to each other.

But the passionate union between them holds a potential that could change the world—and some will do anything to stop it…

Going into this, I was convinced I knew who the hero would be. Rhyzan Brannigan. I mean, I would’ve seriously bet money on it. Not saying if I was right or wrong since that would be a spoiler, but…yeah. More on that later.

I gave up on the Breeds. I can take the odd continuity error, especially in a long running series, but she lost me with the rekilling of an already dead guy! That was just a step too far for me. I got as far as Navarro‘s Promise. *Spoiler’s Ahead* So most of the reviewers on GRs mention missing pages…. No one seems to mention the walking dead guy!! There’s a Walking Dead Guy!! The Big Bad, who was shot by his brother-in-law in the garage at the end of the novella in Primal (and really what an ignominious end for a Big Bad guy – doesn’t even rate being killed in a novel, just a novella?) was now up and walking…. Never mind missing pages people – Walking Dead Guy!! 😂😂😂

Holy crap…I never noticed the Walking Dead. Not ever. I am noticing that the main character of this book has a totally different hair color than he has in the past, and dude doesn’t seem like the Miss Clairol type, but that is about it.

I liked it, but I thought that Cassie became a little bit TOO special, if you know what I mean. Alpha and Primal and legal expert and…everything…all at the same time. Other than that, I was on board.
