New Series Alert

Well, I only have one new series to mention for today, and it comes from author Michelle M. Pillow. Dragon Prince is the first book of her new Qurilixen Lords series.

dragon princeSynopsis…

With all that is happening in his land, the upcoming shifter mating ceremony is the least of Grier’s concerns. Even though he is heir prince of the dragonshifters, he doesn’t have the authority needed to help the humans stranded in dragon territory, nor can he banish those who ruthlessly control them. Yet honor demands he finds an opportunity to intervene, and he hopes that doing so won’t start a war the shifters can’t win. Finding his destined mate couldn’t have come at a worse time.

Salena knows what it is like to be a pawn of the Federation. They might have kidnapped her and brought her to this strange territory, but she will never do what they want of her… what everyone wants of her. The last thing the fugitive needs is the very public attention of a fierce dragon prince claiming they’re fated by the gods—even if the sexy man makes her burn in more ways than one.

There you have it. Will you be checking this one out?

I’m low key a slave for dragons and since Dragos applied for retirement with Pia, I am in need for new dragons. If you have other recommendations, please lemme know!

What struck me about this really was the trope of fate and mate. Are we tired of it or do we still find it exciting? It’s a plot tool that’s pretty much essential to PNR is right? I’m not complaining. I’m just wondering…

I still like the fated mate thing, but only when it is done well. Sometimes it is so…cringy. Or I loathe the female, which has happened more than once.

I had issues with some of the subplots and several of the characters, but overall I liked Caitlyn McFarland’s Dragonsworn trilogy (Soul of Smoke, Shadow of Flame, Truth of Embers). It’s fated mates and follows the same main couple, but there are several secondary romances as well. The heroine takes some time to become proactive (which was one of my issues), but I ended up liking her. My favorite was the secondary romance between her BFF and the hero’s second-in-command.

So far there’s only the introductory novella and one full-length book in Abigail Owen’s Fire’s Edge series: The Mate and The Boss. I enjoyed both when I read them last year. They are about fated mates as well if I recall correctly. There are a few posts about the series here.

I also read an ever-so-rare stand-alone novel that had dragons last year: Heart of the Dragon’s Realm by Karalynn Lee.

There are dragons in Jeffe Kennedy’s The Uncharted Realms series (most particularly The Pages of the Mind and The Shift of the Tide), but while they play a central role in the series, it’s not really about dragons per se. Plus if you plan to read the series, you should read The Twelve Kingdoms series first as The Uncharted Realms is a sequel series.
