Cover Lover – 8 New Titles

I have been holding a few of these back for a while now, waiting to get enough to make a decent post. Let’s start with one that will be out really, really soon. Or rather, out again. A few of Ilona Andrews previous novellas are being re-released in e-format, and Magic Gifts is due out on December 1st.

It will be followed by Alphas: Origins on April 19th.

alphas origins

And for something new from something old, Jeaniene Frost is releasing a companion book to her Night Huntress series called Outtakes From the Grave. It is a collection of deleted scenes, alternate versions, and commentary from the Cat and Bones world. This one is due out this December 22nd.

Next up is Shadowed Blade, which is the fifth book in the Colbana Files from J.C. Daniels. It is due out on March 16th.

shadowed blade

Oh, this was a surprise. I have been wondering what was up next for Lara Adrian‘s Midnight Breed series, since there hasn’t been much news on that front lately. It looks like the next release will be called Defy the Dawn, and it is looking tentatively like a June release. Even though I don’t follow this series anymore, I am still impressed that the change to self-publishing didn’t mean a change in cover design.

defy the dawn

Terry Spear‘s Alpha Wolf Need Not Apply, which is part of her Silver Town Wolf series, was originally called She-Wolf Leader of the Pack. It is due out on May 3rd.

alpha wolf need not apply

These last two are young adult. Soldier is the third book in Julie Kagawa‘s Talon series, and it is due out on April 26th.

And wrapping things up for this post is The Crown, which is the fifth book in The Selection series by Kiera Cass. Look for it on May 3rd.

the crown

So, that is it for today. Are any of these on your wish list?

Cover Lover – Shadow Rider

It was quite a surprise when Christine Feehan announced earlier this year that she was starting up a new series called Shadows. This will be alongside her Carpathians, Leopards, Ghostwalkers and Sea Haven books, so she will be even more busy than usual. The first book will be called Shadow Rider, and it has a release date of June 28th.

shadow riderWhether it’s fast cars or fast women, Stefano Ferraro gets what he wants. When he’s not fodder for the paparazzi, he commands Ferraro family businesses—both legitimate and illegitimate.

While their criminal activity is simply a rumor yet to be proven, no one knows the real truth. The Ferraros are a family of shadow riders capable of manipulating light and dark, an ability Stefano thought ran in his family alone—until now…

With little left to her name, Francesca Cappello has come to Chicago in hopes of a new life. She wasn’t expecting to attract the attention of a man with primal hunger in his eyes, driven to claim her as his to protect and to please. And if he discovers her secret, it could ruin her…

Who is excited to see a new Feehan world? While I like something new, I have to admit I would at this point maybe like to see some progress on the Ghostwalker front instead, since there are still literally dozens of stories left to tell. And I mean the original Ghostwalker stories, not whatever mis-step Viper Game was. Since that didn’t feel like a Ghostwalker book to me, I don’t count it.

Cover Lover – Firstlife

It is time for another little cover reveal, this time from Gena Showalter‘s upcoming new young adult series, Everlife. The first book will be called Firstlife, and the release date is February 23rd.

firstlifeONE CHOICE.

Tenley “Ten” Lockwood is an average seventeen-year-old girl…who has spent the past thirteen months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. The reason? Not her obsession with numbers, but her refusal to let her parents choose where she’ll live—after she dies.

There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

In the Everlife, two realms are in power: Troika and Myriad, longtime enemies and deadly rivals. Both will do anything to recruit Ten, including sending their top Laborers to lure her to their side. Soon, Ten finds herself on the run, caught in a wild tug-of-war between the two realms who will do anything to win the right to her soul. Who can she trust? And what if the realm she’s drawn to isn’t home to the boy she’s falling for? She just has to stay alive long enough to make a decision…

I usually pick up all of the Showalter new stuff automatically, but this one gives me a little pause. I usually really like “institutionalized” storylines, for some reason, but I have been a bit hit-or-miss with the more overtly faith-driven books. This one might be a wait and see for me.

Cover Lover Part 2 – 2 New Titles

After screwing up yesterday’s cover lover post, it looks like you are getting two cover posts in a matter of a couple of minutes…that might be spamming. But these two are so pretty, I can’t resist. This first one is yet another Sherrilyn Kenyon release, this time for next year’s Dark-Hunter book, Dragonmark. It looks like a bit of a departure from the usual design, but I like it.

dragonmarkCenturies ago, Illarion was betrayed– a dragon made human against his will, then forced to serve humanity as a dragonmount in their army, and to fight for them in barbaric wars, even while he hated everything about them. Enslaved and separated from everyone he knew and from his own dragon brothers, he was forced into exile in a fey realm where he lost the only thing he ever really loved.

Now he has a chance to regain what’s been lost— to have the one thing he covets most. But only if he gives up his brothers and forsakes the oaths he holds most dear. Yet what terrifies him most isn’t the cost his happiness might incur, it’s the fact that there is just enough human in his dragon’s heart that he might actually be willing to pay it and betray everything and everyone– to see the entire world burn…

And just as pretty is this next one from Maggie Stiefvater. The Raven King is the fourth and final book in the Raven Cycle, and it is due out on April 26th.

the raven kingAll her life, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love’s death. She doesn’t believe in true love and never thought this would be a problem, but as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

Aren’t they pretty?

Cover Lover – 8 New Titles

For the second time in a week, instead of making a new post, I have made a new page. Duh. Anyways, it is time for a quick little cover lover post, starting with one that will be released this November 15th. Christian is the 10th book in the Vampires in America series from D.B. Reynolds.

christianTexas . . . the heart of a territory that stretches from the golden deserts of New Mexico to the turquoise shores of the Florida Keys. It’s big, it’s rich, and it’s the next battleground for some of the most dangerous vampires in the world.

Christian Duvall . . . charismatic and powerful, and determined to claim the South as his own. But with old enemies and new fighting to stop him, victory suddenly takes on a brutal, and far more treacherous, edge. Because what one of his enemies wants more than anything else already belongs to Christian . . . and her name is Natalie.

Natalie Vivant Gaudet . . . brilliant and lovely, a strong Southern woman who can unravel the most intricate financial schemes designed to swindle and steal. She loves her complex job and the simplicity of her life. And then she meets Christian. He’s beautiful, he’s complicated, and she’ll fight to keep him alive.

With allies trying to kill him, and enemies readying a horde of zombie vampires to roll over all of Texas, it will take every shred of Christian’s power and Natalie’s determination to win this war and give North America a brand new Lord of the South.

This next one is from Lilith Saintcrow. Roadside Magic is the second book of the Gallow and Ragged series, and it is due out on January 26th.

roadside magicThe Seelie and unSeelie Courts are both in plague-ravaged tatters. The Wild Hunt roams unchecked, taking who and what it will, and the walls between the human world and the world of the sidhe are thinning rapidly. Gallow is the only hope of human and sidhe both.

But all Jeremy wants to do is find Robin Ragged . . . and survive. Unfortunately, everyone who meets him has other plans. Including the Ragged, who is fleeing for her life—and the King of Unwinter, whose poisoned blade has cut deep into Jeremy’s flesh…

Wicked Burn is the third book of Rebecca Zanetti‘s Realm Enforcer’s series, and it is due out on June 7th.

wicked burnForevermore is the next book of Kristen Callihan‘s Darkest London series, and it is due out on June 28th.

forevermoreMiss Layla Starling, the young, beautiful, and extremely wealthy heiress, is the talk of London. Until now, she’s managed to evade the marriage noose. Despite the fact that she is unfortunately American, she’s received a staggering number of offers. And turned down every one. St. John Evernight does not want to admit the relief he feels every time he hears that she has rejected one of her suitors. Which is unfair of him. Layla deserves to be happy. But he can not offer her happiness. He will never be normal, never be anything but a freak in her world. So St. John resolves to keep his distance, until he is recruited by the Society for the Suppression of Supernaturals to guard Layla. For she is in grave danger, and he is about to learn the full extent of his powers.

That wraps up the adult books, and leads us to the young adult covers. Starting things off is The Vanishing Throne from Elizabeth May, which is the second book of the Falconer Trilogy. It is due out on June 7th.

Vanishing Throne_final front cover.pdfAileana Kameron, the Falconer, disappeared through the portal that she was trying to close forever. Now she wakes up in the fae world, trapped and tortured by the evil Lonnrach. With the help of an unexpected ally, Aileana re-enters the human world, only to find everything irrevocably changed. Edinburgh has been destroyed, and the few human survivors are living in an uneasy truce with the fae, while both worlds are in danger of disappearing altogether. Aileana holds the key to saving both worlds, but in order to do so she must awaken her latent Falconer powers. And the price of doing that might be her life.

Victoria Schwab starts a new series called Monsters of Verity next year. The first book is called This Savage Song, and it is due out on June 7th.

this savage songThe city of Verity has been overrun with monsters, born from the worst of human evil. In North Verity, the Corsai and the Malchai run free. Under the rule of Callum Harker, the monsters kill any human who has not paid for protection. In the South, Henry Flynn hunts the monsters who cross the border into his territory, aided by the most dangerous and darkest monsters of them all—the Sunai, dark creatures who use music to steal their victim’s souls.

As one of only three Sunai in existence, August Flynn has always wanted to play a bigger role in the war between the north and the south. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate Harker, daughter of the leader of North Verity, August jumps on it. When Kate discovers August’s secret, the pair find themselves running for their lives and battling monsters from both sides of the wall. As the city dissolves into chaos, it’s up to them to foster a peace between monsters and humans.

A unique, fast-paced adventure that looks at the monsters we face every day—including the monster within.

Heir to the Sky is a new book from Amanda Sun, and it has a release date of April 26th.

heir to the skyAs heir to a kingdom of floating continents, Kali has spent her life bound by limits—by her duties as a member of the royal family; by a forced betrothal to the son of a nobleman; and by the edge of the only world she’s ever known—a small island hovering above a monster-ridden earth, long since uninhabited by humans. She is the Eternal Flame of Hope for what’s left of mankind, the wick and the wax burning in service for her people, and for their revered Phoenix, whose magic keeps them aloft.

When Kali falls off the edge of her kingdom and miraculously survives, she is shocked to discover there are still humans on the earth. Determined to get home, Kali entrusts a rugged monster-hunter named Griffin to guide her across a world overrun by chimera, storm dragons, basilisks, and other terrifying beasts. But the more time she spends on earth, the more dark truths she begins to uncover about her home in the sky, and the more resolute she is to start burning for herself.

And the final one for today is from Mary E. Pearson. The Beauty of Darkness is part of the Remnant Chronicles, and it is due out next August 2nd.

the beauty of darknessSo, which of these will you be picking up? I have plans try the Darkest London books one day, and there are a couple of others that look interesting.

Cover Lover – Born of Legend

Just a quick post before I go to bed (once again way later than I planned. I have no control). Anyways, I just spotted the cover for an upcoming Sherrilyn Kenyon League Book, Born of Legend, which is due out next June 21st. Sigh…I am tres disappointed. I loved the League books that just had the sword image on a textured background…didn’t need the dude, to be honest. They had a good thing going, between the weapons on the League books and the symbol on the Dark-Hunter books, and this looks like a step back, at least for me…

born of legendWhat do you think? A change for the better, or the worse? I mean, cover dude is handsome and all, but I thought the other design was classy and really stood out from…well, the sea of books with a cover dude.

Cover Lover – 9 New Titles

Well, time again for a little cover lover post. Let’s start with a new one from Paige Tyler called Her Fierce Protector. It is part of her X-Ops series, and it is due out on March 1st.

her fierce protectorI never hear much about these ones, but Sandra Hill will release a new book from her Deadly Angels series called The Angel Wore Fangs. It is due out on May 31st.

the angel wore fangsThis next one is from J.D. Tyler. Phoenix Reborn is a novella from the Alpha Pack series, and it is due out on March 15th.

phoenix rebornI was surprised to see that Amanda Stevens had returned to writing her Graveyard Queen series. The next book is called The Visitor, and it has a release date of March 29th.

the visitorThese next few are all young adult. The second book of Megan Shepherd‘s The Cage series is called The Hunt, and it has a release date of May 24th.

the huntThe final book in The Taking series from Kimberly Derting is called The Countdown, and it is due out on May 10th.

the countdownAnd I believe that this, too, is the last book in a series. Nil on Fire is part of Lynn Matson‘s Nil series, and it is due out on May 31st.

nil on fireBurning Glass from Kathryn Purdie is the first book in the Burning Glass series, and it will be out on March 1st.

the burning glassAnd the final one for today is from Amy Tintera. Ruined is the first book in an as-yet untitled trilogy, and it will be out on May 3rd.

ruinedI love the Ruined cover. Love. I am totally thinking of stealing the look for a DVD cover, to be honest. Which of these are you looking forward to?

Cover Lover – The Darkest Torment

Today is cover reveal day for Gena Showalter‘s next Lords of the Underworld book, The Darkest Torment. It is the first of the series to be released in hardcover, and it is due out on May 31st.

the darkest tormentDriven to his death by the demon of Distrust, Baden spent centuries in purgatory. Now he’s back, but at what cost? Bound to the king of the underworld, an even darker force, he’s unable to withstand the touch of another…and he’s quickly devolving into a heartless assassin with an uncontrollable temper. Things only get worse when a mission goes awry and he finds himself saddled with a bride—just not his own.

Famed dog trainer Katarina Joelle is forced to marry a monster to protect her loved ones. When she’s taken hostage by the ruthless, beautiful Baden immediately after the ceremony, she’s plunged into a war between two evils—with a protector more dangerous than the monsters he hunts. They are meant to be enemies, but neither can resist the passion burning between them…and all too soon the biggest threat is to her heart.

But as Baden slips deeper into the abyss, she’ll have to teach him to love…or lose him forever.

Hmm. I hadn’t given much thought to what the switch to hardcover would mean for cover design, honestly. Part of me can appreciate that they didn’t do a radical design change, keeping things continuous with the previous paperback books. But part of me thinks that the hardcover debut should be something more…grand, maybe. I am not sure that if I was new to the series that the cover above would make me give it a second look. Bare-chested dudes are eye-rolling but expected for a paperback, but on a hardcover? What do you think?

Cover Lover – 5 New Titles

Ok everybody, time to ramble for a couple of minutes. Over the next couple of days, I will be getting caught up on adding a few new release dates to the pages, along with hopefully adding an author page for Anne Bishop and maybe changing a couple of cosmetic issues that have been bugging me for a while. I have gotten the White Rabbit Chronicles and Charley Davidson character guides up to date, and hopefully I can tackle the Cainsville guide over the next couple of days.

On to the cover side of things. Let’s start with Lady Midnight, the first book in the upcoming The Dark Artifices series from Cassandra Clare. This one will be out on March 8th.

lady midnightEmma Carstairs is a Shadowhunter, one in a long line of Shadowhunters tasked with protecting the world from demons. With her parabatai Julian Blackthorn, she patrols the streets of an secret Los Angeles where vampires party on the Sunset Strip, and faeries teeter on the edge of open war with Shadowhunters. When the bodies of humans and faeries start turning up murdered in the same way Emma’s parents were murdered years ago, an uneasy alliance is formed. This is Emma’s chance for revenge — and Julian’s chance to get back his half-faerie brother, Mark, who was kidnapped five years ago. All Emma, Mark and Julian have to do is solve the murders within two weeks . . . before the murderer targets them.

Their search takes Emma from sea caves full of sorcery to a dark lottery where death is dispensed. As she uncovers the past, she begins to peel away the secrets of the present: What has Julian been hiding from her all these years? Why does Shadowhunter law forbid parabatai to fall in love? Who really killed her parents — and can she bear to know the truth?

Next up is the cover for the third and final book in the 5th Wave series from Rick Yancey, The Last Star. It will be released on May 17th.

the last starWe’re here, then we’re gone, and that was true before they came. That’s always been true. The Others didn’t invent death; they just perfected it. Gave death a face to put back in our face, because they knew that was the only way to crush us. It won’t end on any continent or ocean, no mountain or plain, jungle or desert. It will end where it began, where it had been from the beginning, on the battlefield of the last beating human heart.

Rachel Vincent‘s second The Stars Never Rise book, The Flame Never Dies, will be released on June 1st.

the flame never diesSuzanne Young returns to her The Program series with The Epidemic, which is due out on April 19th.

the epidemicCan one girl help others find closure by slipping into the identities of their loved ones? Find out in this riveting sequel to The Remedy and companion to the New York Times bestselling The Treatment and The Program.

In a world before The Program…

Quinlan McKee has spent her life acting as other people. She was a closer—a person hired to play the role of the recently deceased in order to give their families closure. Through this process, Quinn learned to read people and situations, even losing a bit of herself to do so. But she couldn’t have guessed how her last case would bring down her entire world.

The only person Quinn trusts is Deacon, her best friend and the love of her life. Except Deacon’s been keeping secrets of his one, so Quinn must set out alone to find Arthur Pritchard, the doctor who’s been trying to control her life. The journey brings Quinn to Arthur’s daughter, Virginia, who tells Quinn the truth about Pritchard’s motives. The former closer will start to see that she is the first step in fighting an epidemic.

But Quinlan doesn’t want to be a cure. And with all the lies surrounding her, she realizes she has no one left to rely on but herself—even if she doesn’t know who that is anymore.

And in a sea of young adult covers, let’s wrap things up with an adult cover. Kate Baxter‘s The Dark Vampire, which is part of her new Last True Vampires series, is due out on May 3rd.

the dark vampireJenner is a newly turned vampire who stalks the night like a wild beast of prey, hunting and feeding his appetites with a string of willing women…and always wanting more. Nothing can satisfy the aching hunger that burns inside him—until he crosses paths with a beautiful, innocent vampire who sets his soul on fire.

Bria has never been able to escape the confines of her uncle’s home. But when the smolderingly sexy Jenner saves her—and promises to be her bodyguard—Bria is brought to a dark world of dangerous, insatiable desire. But once they feed upon each other, they expose themselves to an evil that they never saw coming…and now there’s no turning back. Will they divide and conquer—or stay together and lose it all to lust?

So, I think the Lady Midnight cover is a beauty, and it is close enough in look to The Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices covers that I can deal. Which one is your favorite from this little batch?

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

I didn’t think I had this many covers built up to post – a nice surprise. Let’s start with one from Larissa Ione‘s Demonica series. She will release another novella through the 101 Dark Nights series, this one called Z. Look for it next April 26th.

zZhubaal, fallen angel assistant to the Grim Reaper, has spent decades searching for the angel he loved and lost nearly a century ago. Not even her death can keep him from trying to find her, not when he knows she’s been given a second chance at life in a new body. But as time passes, he’s losing hope, and he wonders how much longer he can hold to the oath he swore to her so long ago…

As an emim, the wingless offspring of two fallen angels, Vex has always felt like a second-class citizen. But if she manages to secure a deal with the Grim Reaper — by any means necessary — she will have earned her place in the world. The only obstacle in the way of her plan is a sexy hardass called Z, who seems determined to thwart her at every turn. Soon it becomes clear that they have a powerful connection rooted in the past…but can any vow stand the test of time?

Up next is the second book in the new Dragons of Eternity series from Alexandra Ivy. Scorched by Darkness will be released early next year.

scorched by darknessTo be honest, I haven’t heard much about this next one. Thinning the Herd from Adrian Phoenix is an e-format release due out on January 4th.

thinning the herdFrom the New York Times bestselling author of A Rush of Wings and The Maker’s Song series, a humorous, action-packed urban fantasy about a werewolf pack and an animal control officer in way over his head!

Someone is picking off fortune tellers and hippies in Oregon, snatching them out of their Birkenstocks mid-stride. And when the legend himself, Hal Rupert, Animal Control Officer, gets a whiff of the mystery, he knows he’s the man to solve it. In between proudly wrangling out-of-control cats and dogs, he’s noticed a peculiar uptick in another sort of animal…werewolves.

Hal infiltrates the country fair to investigate the disappearance of the flower children. But his real priority is protecting the love of his life, Desdemona Cohen, whose long purple tresses and black-glossed lips captured his heart the moment he first saw her standing behind the register at Hot Topic. Desdemona may have nicknamed Hal “Creep,” but he’s determined to win her heart. And, you know, save everyone else, too.

Alien in Chief is the 13th book in the Katherine “Kitty” Katt series from Gini Koch, and it is due out on December 1st.

alien in chiefThese last three are all young adult. Ann Aguirre‘s Infinite Risk, which is the third and final book of the Immortal Game trilogy, has a release date of August 2nd.

infinite riskI expected something darker and more edgy for this next one, maybe something black. Or with diamonds. Seven Black Diamonds is from what I understand a stand-alone release from Melissa Marr, and it will be out on March 1st.

seven black diamondsThis riveting fantasy marks Melissa Marr’s return to the world of faery courts that made her Wicked Lovely series an international phenomenon.

Lilywhite Abernathy is a criminal—she’s half human, half fae, and since the time before she was born, a war has been raging between humans and faeries. The Queen of Blood and Rage, ruler of the fae courts, wants to avenge the tragic death of her heir due to the actions of reckless humans.

Lily’s father has always shielded her, but when she’s sent to the prestigious St. Columba’s school, she’s delivered straight into the arms of a fae sleeper cell—the Black Diamonds. The Diamonds are planted in the human world as the sons and daughters of the most influential families and tasked with destroying it from within. Against her will, Lilywhite’s been chosen to join them…and even the romantic attention of the fae rock singer Creed Morrison isn’t enough to keep Lily from wanting to run back to the familiar world she knows.

And this final one is from Rachel Caine and her Great Library series. Paper and Fire is due out on July 5th.

paper and fireWith an iron fist, The Great Library controls the knowledge of the world, ruthlessly stamping out all rebellion, forbidding the personal ownership of books in the name of the greater good.

Jess Brightwell has survived his introduction to the sinister, seductive world of the Library, but serving in its army is nothing like he envisioned. His life and the lives of those he cares for have been altered forever. His best friend is lost, and Morgan, the girl he loves, is locked away in the Iron Tower and doomed to a life apart.

Embarking on a mission to save one of their own, Jess and his band of allies make one wrong move and suddenly find themselves hunted by the Library’s deadly automata and forced to flee Alexandria, all the way to London.

But Jess’s home isn’t safe anymore. The Welsh army is coming, London is burning, and soon, Jess must choose between his friends, his family, or the Library willing to sacrifice anything and anyone in the search for ultimate control…

So, there you have it for this batch. Anything catch your eye?
