Cover Lover – Shadow’s End

Of all of the characters in Thea Harrison‘s Elder Races series, Graydon is my favorite. I am not sure how thrilled I am with his HEA being with Beluviel, but then again I don’t get a vote. I got the vibe that she was going to be way back in Lord’s Fall, and I was hoping I was wrong. Nothing against Beluviel, but I wanted someone new for Graydon. Either way, Shadow’s End is due out on December 1st.

shadow's endFor Beluviel, consort to the Elven High Lord, and Graydon, gryphon and First Sentinel of the Wyr, even the slightest desire for each other is forbidden. But two hundred years ago, after a desperate play to save Beluviel’s stepson left them indebted to the cruel Djinn Malphas, they found their fates inexorably linked together—and the hunger between them growing too strong to ignore…

Two centuries later, with their debt to Malphas coming due, Beluviel and Graydon realize that, if they are to stand any chance of saving their souls, they must once again work together—this time more closely than ever before. But every moment they spend with each other brings them nearer to losing something even more vital—their hearts…

Well, I am a bit meh on this one. While the series really doesn’t have the greatest covers, this one is a bit underwhelming even for them. How excited are you to get to Graydon’s story? Do you think Beluviel matches up well with him?

Spotlight on…Bound to Darkness

Last year, Lara Adrian announced that she was leaving traditional publishing and striking out on the self-pubbed route. She assured everyone that nothing would change with her popular Midnight Breed series, except that it would no longer be offered in hardcover format. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical, but it looks like word is starting to come out about Bound to Darkness. The good news is that the initial release date of December 31st has been changed…to July 30th. It isn’t often that books get moved ahead, which is a bonus, and here is the cover and blurb to get you into the mood…

bound to darknessCarys Chase is accustomed to making her own rules and letting her heart lead the way–no matter what anyone else has to say about it. A rare Breed female and a daywalker as well, headstrong, beautiful Carys is one of the most powerful of her kind. She lives passionately and loves without limits, especially when it comes to the lethal cage-fighting Breed warrior called Rune.

Unbeatable in the ring, Rune exists in a brutal world of blood and bone and death. He’s made his share of enemies both in and out of the arena, and his secrets run as deep and turbulent as his past. A dangerous loner who has survived by his fists and fangs, Rune has never allowed anyone to get too close to him…until Carys. But when the bodies buried in his past rise up to threaten his present, Rune must choose between betraying Carys’s trust or putting her in the crosshairs of a battle neither of them can hope to win on their own.

So, if you are like me, you are glad to see that the overall cover design stayed the same, even if the format changed (this one will be out in trade paperback rather than hardcover). I actually decided to drop the series a couple of books back, but are you looking forward to checking this one out?

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

Time for another cover lover post, and while some of them have been making the rounds for a few days now I was too lazy to post them. Let’s start with Autumn Thorns, the first book of the new Whisper Hollow series from Yasmine Galenorn, which is due out on October 27th.

autumn thornsFifteen years ago, I ran away from Whisper Hollow, Washington, a small town on Crescent Lake in the Olympic Peninsula. But truth is, if you were born here, you can never really leave. I’m Kerris Fellwater, and when I returned, I inherited my grandmother’s house—and her gift. As a spirit shaman, it’s my responsibility to drive the dead back to their graves, because around Whisper Hollow, people—and secrets—don’t always stay buried.

When I was little, I was told my mother ran off. But now it looks like she was murdered. With the help of my mysterious neighbor Bryan, we begin to unravel the mystery of her disappearance, and in doing so, unearth a dark force seeking to bury Whisper Hollow. Now I must work with the dead, rather than against them, because our enemy will do whatever she can to destroy the town, and she means to start with me.

Not sure why I didn’t post this one before, but the 10th book in the Cal Leandros series from Rob Thurman will be called Nevermore, and it will be released on December 1st.

nevermorePeople die.

Everyone knows that. I knew it intimately as everyone in my life died thanks to my one seemingly harmless mistake. I’d brought down Heaven, lifted up Hell, and set the world on fire, all due to one slip of the memory.

I forgot the pizzas…

Caliban is a dead man. The Vigil, a group devoted to concealing the paranormal from humanity, has decided Cal has stepped out of the shadows once too often, and death is the only sentence. They plan to send a supernatural assassin into the past to take down the younger, less lethal Cal.

But things change when The Vigil makes one last attempt on Caliban’s life in the present—and end up destroying everyone and everything he cares about.

Now, Cal has to save himself, warn those closest to him, and kill every Vigil bastard who stole his world. But if he fails, he and everyone in his life will be history…

Even though I have never read a Galenorn novel, I do love pretty much all of her covers. All of hers are, I believe, Tony Mauro creations, and they are consistently great. I wish every author had such cover luck.

Cover Lover – Blood of the Earth

Sometimes, I do things backwards, and that includes reading. I have recently started reading the Jane Yellowrook series from Faith Hunter, and it was prompted by my interest in checking out the upcoming Blood of the Earth. It is the first book of the Jane spin-off series called Soulwood, and it will be released on October 6th.

blood of the earthWhen Nell Ingram met skinwalker Jane Yellowrock, she was almost alone in the world, exiled by both choice and fear from the cult she was raised in, defending herself with the magic she drew from her deep connection to the forest that surrounds her.

Now, Jane has referred Nell to PsyLED, a Homeland Security agency policing paranormals, and agent Rick LaFleur has shown up at Nell’s doorstep. His appearance forces her out of her isolated life into an investigation that leads to the vampire Blood Master of Nashville.

Nell has a team—and a mission. But to find the Master’s kidnapped vassal, Nell and the PsyLED team will be forced to go deep into the heart of the very cult Nell fears, infiltrating the cult and a humans-only terrorist group before time runs out…

Is anyone interested in checking this one out? I have to admit, I am only on the second book of the Jane Yellowrock series, but I have hopes that I can get another few books into the series before this one comes out. I do love the fact that they kept the same look for the new books, since the Jane books are a standout.

New IAD Covers

It looks like this September will see a re-release of Kresley Cole’s early Immortals After Dark books. I got excited when I thought they would be out in hardcover, but it looks like they will only be hitting the shelves in mass market paperback. So, let’s compare…the warlord wants forever

These last two are young adult. It looks like Andrea Cremer‘s The Inventor’s Secret series has fallen victim to the dreaded “second book design change” syndrome. Which of course carries over to the paperback re-release of the first book of the series, just to make me nuts. Pick a design and stick with it, people. Anyways, The Conjurer’s Riddle will be released on November 3rd.

the conjurer's riddleIn this sequel to The Inventor’s Secret, Charlotte and her companions escape the British Empire, but they haven’t left danger behind. In fact, if they go against the revolutionaries, they face even greater peril.

Charlotte leads her group of exiles west, plunging into a wild world of shady merchants and surly rivermen on the way to New Orleans. But as Charlotte learns more about the revolution she has championed, she wonders if she’s on the right side after all. Charlotte and her friends get to know the mystical New Orleans bayou and deep into the shadowy tunnels below the city–the den of criminals, assassins and pirates–Charlotte must decide if the revolution’s goals justify their means, or if some things, like the lives of her friends, are too sacred to sacrifice.

This alternate-history adventure series asks the questions: What would have happened if America had lost the Revolutionary War? And what would people be willing to do to finally taste freedom?

Cover Lover – White Hot

If you read this blog at all, there are a few “jokes” (totally true) that I always make. One is that I have authors that I am rabidly devoted to. Another is that I can be a bit, uh, stalkery, when I am looking for something. If you put the two together, you have me checking both Goodreads and Amazon several times a day for info about Ilona Andrews‘ next Hidden Legacy book, White Hot. And moments ago, I finally hit paydirt with the cover reveal on Amazon. Yes! White hot is an October 27th release, and now maybe I can go down to checking for info on other books once a day. But then, there IS the cover for Thea Harrison’s Shadow’s End to find…

white hotNevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill – she knows when people are lying — and she’s used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family’s detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor “Mad” Rogan.

Rogan is a billionaire Prime -the highest rank of magic user-and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada’s “talent”. But there’s no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice…

I truly wouldn’t care if this one was only called “Book two” and came with a blank page for the cover. It is actually my most anticipated book for this year, bar none. How does it fall on your list?

Cover Lover – 5 New Titles

As I keep an eye out for the White Hot cover from Ilona Andrews (which should be released soon), I came across a few others to highlight. Looks like shades of red is the theme of the day, starting with the next one from Jacquelyn Frank. Bound in Sin is part of the Immortal Brothers series, and it is due out on September 29th.

bound by sinAfter being chained to a star to burn endlessly as punishment for stealing immortality from the gods, Jaykun has been unshackled to wage war alongside his brothers. One early morning, recovering from his torment, he encounters a beautiful stranger on the beach. Naked from her midnight-black hair to her sandy toes, she approaches him with starry-eyed innocence and the unmistakably full body of a woman.

Soon Jaykun is swept up with the force of a comet, his desire for this woman hotter than any sun. His brothers fear he is blinded by her radiant beauty, and that she has been sent by their enemies to seduce and destroy him. Jileana is indeed from another world—one Jaykun cannot begin to imagine. But will their passion burn brightly enough to light the way through the darkness that threatens to consume all in its path?

Cover Lover – Blood Kiss

It looks like J.R. Ward‘s Black Dagger Legacy series covers will make a return to the old-school BDB style. Blood Kiss will be released on December 1st.
