Cover Lover – Marked in Flesh

I am pretty sure that Marked in Flesh by Anne Bishop is at the top of a lot of people’s most anticipated reads for next year, but books don’t actually seem real to me until I get my eyeballs on the cover. Needless to say, I was excited to see that Goodreads had upped the cover for this one, and even more excited that it still matches the previous books. Beauty!

marked in fleshFor centuries, the Others and humans have lived side by side in uneasy peace. But when humankind oversteps its bounds, the Others will have to decide how much humanity they’re willing to tolerate—both within themselves and within their community…

Since the Others allied themselves with the cassandra sangue, the fragile yet powerful human blood prophets who were being exploited by their own kind, the delicate dynamic between humans and Others changed. Some, like Simon Wolfgard, wolf shifter and leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn, see the new, closer companionship as beneficial—both personally and practically.

But not everyone is convinced. A group of radical humans is seeking to usurp land through a series of violent attacks on the Others. What they don’t realize is that there are older and more dangerous forces than shifters and vampires protecting the land that belongs to the Others—and those forces are willing to do whatever is necessary to protect what is theirs…

I love me these ones, and when a great book has a great cover it is even better. Let the countdown begin.

Cover Lover – 3 New Titles

Sigh…

You know you read too much at night if you sleep in and are almost late for work. Um, and your shift starts at 4:00 PM. Not good, and really, really hard to explain.

Anyways, looks like it is just a little cover lover post for today. Let’s start with the next one from Jennifer Ashley. White Tiger is part of her Shifters Unbound series, and it will be released on April 5th.

white tigerWanted and on the run…

For twenty years, Kendrick, a white tiger Shifter, has been the Guardian of un-Collared Shifters who spend their lives living in secret—and in fear of being shunted into Shiftertowns. When Kendrick’s group is discovered and forced to flee, Kendrick is more desperate than ever to protect them

His only salvation was in a beautiful stranger.

In a diner in the middle of nowhere, lonely waitress Addison Price has seen a lot of unusual drifters come and go, but none has ever captivated—and intimidated—her like the imposing fugitive who wields a broadsword with incredible skill. But when he risks all to protect her, Addison’s fear turns to empathy—and empathy to desire as she learns more about her savior. Soon she’s more than willing to help the crushingly sensual white tiger and his cubs in a passionate bid for freedom. Whatever the cost.

This next one is from Faith Hunter and her Jane Yellowrock series. Shadow Rites is Jane #10, and it too is due out on April 5th.

shadow ritesSlaying vampires is child’s play for skinwalker Jane Yellowrock. But handling the complicated politics of New Orleans’ supernatural players is another story…

Jane is keeping the peace between visiting groups of witches and vamps in the city, but then trouble comes knocking on her doorstep. When her house is magically attacked, the wild chase to find her assailants unearths a mystery that has literally been buried deep.

A missing master vampire, presumed long deceased, is found chained in a pit…undead, raving mad, and in the company of two human bodies. Now it’s up to Jane to find out who kept the vampire hidden for so long and why, because the incident could tip already high supernatural tensions to an all-out arcane war.

And this last one is actually a redo. Karen Marie Moning‘s Burned is getting a re-design for its paperback release on November 24th. And since I thought the hardcover design for Burned was a total letdown, this does not disappoint me.

burnedIt’s easy to walk away from lies. Power is another thing.

MacKayla Lane would do anything to save the home she loves. A gifted sidhe-seer, she’s already fought and defeated the deadly Sinsar Dubh—an ancient book of terrible evil—yet its hold on her has never been stronger.

When the wall that protected humans from the seductive, insatiable Fae was destroyed on Halloween, long-imprisoned immortals ravaged the planet. Now Dublin is a war zone with factions battling for control. As the city heats up and the ice left by the Hoar Frost King melts, tempers flare, passions run red-hot, and dangerous lines get crossed. Seelie and Unseelie vie for power against nine ancient immortals who have governed Dublin for millennia; a rival band of sidhe-seers invades the city, determined to claim it for their own; Mac’s former protégé and best friend, Dani “Mega” O’Malley, is now her fierce enemy; and even more urgent, Highland druid Christian MacKeltar has been captured by the Crimson Hag and is being driven deeper into Unseelie madness with each passing day. The only one Mac can depend on is the powerful, dangerous immortal Jericho Barrons, but even their fiery bond is tested by betrayal.

It’s a world where staying alive is a constant struggle, the line between good and evil is blurred, and every alliance comes at a price. In an epic battle against dark forces, Mac must decide who she can trust, and what her survival is ultimately worth.

Just as a reminder, here is the original Burned cover…

burnedMeh. Didn’t match the story. Didn’t match the rest of the covers in the series. Didn’t stand out at all, and totally messed up a string of well done covers for the Fever series. Not amused.

Cover Lover – 9 New Titles

Sort of a mish-mash for this cover lover post, but there are a couple of interesting ones. Let’s start with one from Kim Harrison. Sideswiped is from her new Peri Reed Chronicles, and I believe it is a prequel novella that is due out on August 10th.

sideswipedEvery hero, even the accidental ones, have a beginning.

Silas’s radical theory that drafters are not replaying time as much as they are temporarily sliding into an alternate universe has never been well-received, but frankly, the darling of Opti’s research has enough clout not to care, until a professor with a grudge tries to put a permanent end to it. Love can’t alter time, and sometimes, even being able to rub out a single mistake isn’t enough…

This next one is from Deborah Blake. I haven’t heard anything about Veiled Magic at all, other than it is due out on November 17th.

veiled magicI guess Amanda Bonilla‘s Shaede Assassin series is now being released only in e-format. The fifth book will be called Shadows at Midnight, and it is due out on September 24th.

shadows at minightHas Darian’s past finally caught up with her?

The Rakshasa queen, Padma, has a score to settle—she wants those responsible for her son’s death to pay and to pay dearly. Darian, Tyler and Xander are all at risk—and Padma’s powers could force them to live the rest of their lives in the madness of the Realm of Illusions…

While Darian is taken and is the first to suffer, she’s soon rescued by Tyler, the one man to never disappoint. But what Darian doesn’t know is that her freedom comes at a steep price—Xander’s the King of Shaedes, imprisonment. Darian knows what horrors await in Padma’s dungeon. A rescue mission won’t be easy and she can’t do it alone.

Deep in the bowels of Goblin Valley, Darian, Tyler, and her small band of Shaede warriors fight their way through a dark labyrinth. In a realm where illusions rule, with danger at every turn, the odds are stacked against them. Time isn’t on their side, every second spent in Padma’s custody will be another step Xander takes toward madness. A kingdom can’t be ruled without its king and the wolves are at the door, waiting. If Darian can’t get to Xander before he succumbs to the illusions, an entire kingdom’s future is at stake…

The second book of the Thieves spin-off series from Lexi Blake will be called Addict, and it will be released on September 22nd.

With the help of Gray’s brother, a full empath demon, Kelsey tracks her one time lover down. Before she knows it, she’s pulled into Gray’s undercover operation in a demon sex club and sitting across from a Duke of Hell. Abbas Hiberna plans to use her city to test his new drug, Brimstone. It doesn’t just give supernatural creatures a high. It also leaves them vulnerable to demonic persuasion.

With her new life crumbling around her, a dark secret about her former lover is revealed and Kelsey will have to choose between saving Gray Sloane and the revenge she’s waited a lifetime for.

Aaand Lynsay Sands will continue her Rogue Hunter books with the release of Runaway Vampire on February 23rd.

runaway vampireBuckle up—the Argeneaus are back in a sexy, witty new novel from New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands.

Dante Notte has heard it said that love hurts. He just wasn’t expecting it to run him over in an RV. Still, a punctured lung and broken ribs are nothing compared to the full-body shock he feels whenever he’s near the vehicle’s driver, Mary Winslow. He needs to keep her safe from their pursuers while he rescues his brother. Most challenging of all, he needs to claim this smart, stubborn woman as his life mate.

The naked, injured, insanely gorgeous younger man who clambered into her RV insists they belong together. If Mary wasn’t feeling their incredible connection in every inch of her being, she wouldn’t believe it. But now that the men who took Dante’s twin are after her too, trusting her gut means risking her life for an immortal who’s the very definition of a perfect stranger.

Heading into the young adult side of things, the second book from the Sisters of Blood and Spirit series from Kady Cross will be called Sisters of Salt and Iron, and it will be out on March 30th.

sisters of salt and ironAs Halloween approaches, twin sisters Lark, who is alive, and Wren, a tethered spirit, find themselves drifting apart. While Lark is happy with new boyfriend Ben, Wren is still hurting over her own still-alive-and-kicking love-interest, Kevin, who may or may not have kissed another girl. Spending more time on the Other Side, and less time with her sister in the land of the living, Lark becomes close with the spirit of a young man, Noah, who was killed years ago. But Noah is not as nice as he seems, and his thirst for vengeance has a dark and sudden influence on Wren. With the veil between the worlds thinning for Halloween, the spirits are getting stronger and it will be up to Lark and her friends to stop Noah and save Wren from becoming a monster. But the only way to do that could be to kill the boy that Wren is falling in love with.

Not only are these final three from the same author, they are from the same series. Victoria Aveyard‘s Red Queen series will include several e-novellas, starting with Queen Song on September 1st…

queen songIn this 55-page prequel novella set in the Red Queen world, Queen Coriane, first wife of King Tiberias, keeps a secret diary—how else can she ensure that no one at the palace will use her thoughts against her? Coriane recounts her heady courtship with the crown prince, the birth of a new prince, Cal, and the potentially deadly challenges that lay ahead for her in royal life.

Another novella will follow on January 6th called Steel Scars, which will this time focus on secondary character Farley.

steel scarsFarley was raised to be strong, but being tasked with planting the seeds of rebellion in Norta is a tougher job than expected. As she travels the land recruiting black market traders, smugglers, and extremists for her first attempt at an attack on the capital, she stumbles upon a connection that may prove to be the key to the entire operation—Mare Barrow.

And all of the novellas will be combined into a print-format bind-up called Cruel Crown, and it is looking like a January 5th release.

cruel crownOk, there you have it. Any fans of Victoria Aveyard’s Red Queen series? I quite enjoyed it myself, even though I have been going through a bit of a young adult rebellion lately. A lot of them haven’t held my interest, and I have really cut back on which ones I am picking up (pretty covers or not).

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

I try not to do two cover lover posts in a row, but then there wasn’t a ton else going on. This first one is the surprise novella from Darynda Jones, Brighter Than the Sun. It is a Reyes POV story, and it will be released on October 6th.

brighter than the sunAll his life, Reyes Alexander Farrow has suffered the torments of the damned. Only one thing has given him hope: the woman who radiates a light that no mortals can see; a light that only the departed can see…

Told from his point of view, BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN chronicles the first time Reyes ever encountered Charley, and how their relationship has been the one thing that can either save him or doom him.

Cover two is from Karen Chance. Ride the Storm is the next Cassie Palmer book, and it is due out on April 5th.

ride the stormEver since being stuck with the job of pythia, the chief seer of the supernatural world, Cassie Palmer has been playing catch up. Catch up to the lifetime’s worth of training she missed being raised by a psychotic vampire instead of at the fabled pythian court. Catch up on the dangerous world of supernatural politics. Catch up to the powerful, and sometimes seductive, forces trying to mold her to their will. It’s been a trial by fire that has left her more than a little burned.

But now she realizes that all that was the just the warm up for the real race. Ancient forces that once terrorized the world are trying to return, and Cassie is the only one who can stop them...

The next two are young adult. Sarah Rees Brennan‘s next one is called Tell the Wind and Fire, and it will be released early next year.

tell the wind and fireTell the Wind & Fire is about a young girl called Lucie who lives in a New York very different from the New York we know: the city is torn between two very different kinds of magic, and Lucie’s own family was torn apart years ago by that conflict. Lucie wears magic rings and carries a burden of guilt she can’t share with anyone.

The light in her life is her sweetheart boyfriend Ethan, but it turns out Ethan has a secret too: a soulless doppelganger created by dark magic, who has to conceal the face identical to Ethan’s with a hood fastened by a collar nobody but a Light magician with magical rings can take off… and who introduces himself to both of them by, for reasons nobody can understand, saving Ethan’s life…

And the final one for today comes from Megan Crewe. The third and final book of the Earth and Sky series, A Sky Unbroken, will be released on October 13th.

a sky unbrokenThe rebels have been disbanded, their plans ruined. Betrayed by those she trusted most, Skylar finds herself herded, along with a small group of Earthlings, into a living museum—a human zoo—on the Kemyates’ space station, subject to her captors’ every whim. Any move Skylar makes could result in the extinction of her people—but giving in means losing any hope of freedom.

Meanwhile, Win returns home and evades punishment by pretending to be loyal to Kemya. But he can’t bear knowing that Skylar is imprisoned or watch his fellow Kemyates swallow the Council’s lies about Earth. He must bring the truth to the Kemyate public and see the Earthlings freed—even if it means openly challenging his world’s rulers.

In this final book of the action-packed Earth & Sky trilogy, neither Skylar nor Win knows they are about to uncover an even deeper conspiracy—one that could push the future they’re fighting for completely out of reach.

Cover Lover – 5 New Titles

Wow, there hasn’t been much going on for the last few days. Well, there were a couple of announcements to ponder, but that is about it. Kresley Cole has announced that the tv and motion picture rights for her Arcana Chronicles series has been optioned by a major studio. Now, that doesn’t mean that we will necessarily get a movie or show out of it (still waiting for Sherrilyn Kenyon‘s adaptations to appear), but it is at least a good sign.

Oh, and Darynda Jones has also announced a new project she has been working on. Brighter Than the Sun will be an e-novella released on October 6th, and it will be a Reyes-centric story about the first time he and Charley met. Sounds interesting.

Ok, on to the covers. It looks like Rachel Caine is revisiting her Morganville Vampires world with a novella collection called Midnight Bites. It is due out on March 1st.

midnight bitesWELCOME TO MORGANVILLE.
YOU’LL NEVER WANT TO LEAVE.

By day, Morganville, Texas, is just a typical college town. By night, the vampires emerge and take control….

In a town where it’s not safe to be out after dark, student Claire Danvers and her friends have had their fair share of thrills. But Morganville still has a few secrets left to tell.

Now, in this collection, you can venture down the town’s strange streets, revisit all the tales you’ve come to love, and experience six new stories featuring your favorite Morganville residents—both human and vampire…

Next up is Vendetta, the next Deadly Curiosities book from Gail Z. Martin. It has a release date of December 29th.

vendettaAn old enemy of Sorren’s is back in town. Sariel is a nephilmancer, a powerful sorcerer able to summon the nephilim, tainted eternal spirits that watch humanity and stand in judgment. Sariel is looking for vengeance, because a century ago, during their last battle, Sorren killed Sariel’s son and helped the Alliance send Sariel into harsh exile. Because of Sorren’s long affiliation with Charleston, Sariel has decided that the city must be destroyed, and in retaliation for his own loss, Sariel vows to destroy the mortal helpers Sorren protects. To do this, Sariel must bring five of the Watchers through a portal from another realm. When all five are present, judgment will fall, and the nephilim will reap and feed on the souls of the dead.

Number three is from Heather Graham. The Hidden is the 17th Crewe of Hunters book, and it is due out on September 29th.

The HiddenCan the same killer strike again—a hundred and fifty years later?

Estes Park, Colorado, is a place of serenity. But it wasn’t always so serene. Shortly after the Civil War, Nathan Kendall and his wife were murdered there, leaving behind a young son. The crime was never solved.

Now…historian Scarlet Barlow is working at a small museum attached to a B and B, the same building where that murder occurred. She recently came to Colorado, reeling after her divorce from FBI agent Diego McCullough. Diego—who’s just been asked to join the Krewe of Hunters, a unit dealing with “unusual” situations…

When Scarlet unwittingly takes pictures of people who’ve been murdered—just like the Kendalls a hundred and fifty years before—the police look at her with suspicion. Then the museum’s statues of historic people, including Nathan Kendall, begin to talk to her, and she knows it’s time to call her ex-husband. Diego heads to Estes Park, determined to solve the bizarre case that threatens Scarlet’s life—and to reunite with the woman he never stopped loving.

Lisa Shearin‘s The Brimstone Deception, which is part of her SPI Files series, will be released on January 26th.

the brimstone deceptionMen in Black meets Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum in the new urban fantasy novel starring seer Makenna Fraser and her fellow agents at Supernatural Protection & Investigation.

The agents of Supernatural Protection & Investigations (SPI) know that fighting evil is a full-time job, especially when a new designer drug—with mind-blowing side effects—hits the streets…

It’s called Brimstone. And after the first few hits, you’ll see every supernatural beast sharing the sidewalk, train, or office with you. After that, you’ll start seeing the really scary stuff.

I’m Makenna Fraser, seer for the SPI. And the collateral damage caused by Brimstone is something I’d like to unsee: dead drug dealers missing their hearts—and souls. Because your local pusher doesn’t stand a chance against the new cartel muscling its way into New York. And since the drug can only be produced with magic and molten brimstone fresh from Hell, that means a rift to the underworld is open somewhere in the city.

And when—not if—the cartel loses control of it, well…

It’s going to be Hell on earth.

And the final one for today is from Katie MacAlister. Dragon Soul is the third book in her Black Dragons series, and it will be out on January 26th.

dragon soulNew York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katie MacAlister continues her riotously funny and super steamy paranormal series with Dragon Soul. A foe to all of dragonkind, an alchemist known as the Dragon Breaker is about to undergo the transformation of a lifetime. But his love for a beautiful woman may change him even more…

So, that wraps things up for today. What is your take on the Arcana Chronicles news? I think that it has the potential to be different than a lot of the other YA adaptations that have recently headed our way, but I am still hating the damn love triangles. Seriously, I haven’t even read the last book yet because of the Aric/Evie/Jack loooove thing. Ugh. Triangles must die.

Cover Lover – The Beast

One good thing about J.R. Ward is that we get to see the covers of her books early. Really early. Her next Black Dagger Brotherhood book is called The Beast, and it is a return to Rhage’s story. It will be released on April 5th.

the beastHis name is Rhage—the deadliest fighter and most voracious lover of all the Brotherhood, whose inner beast could never be tamed. But Rhage found his eternal love in Mary Luce, a woman who once bore a life-threatening curse, while dreaming of eternity with her vampire warrior and protector.

They’ve made it to hell and back. Now their story continues in a new novel sure to draw fans back into the “frighteningly addictive” (Publishers Weekly) world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

I like. They brought the pretty with this one, and while I was a bit hesitant about a return to the original brothers, the idea is slowly growing on me. The “main” couple plays such a small role in the overall scheme of things that I don’t think it really matters who the story is officially considered to be about.

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

Since I don’t really have a pick of the week for today’s post, I thought I would put up a little cover lover post instead. Let’s start with the unexpected fourth book from Gena Showalter‘s White Rabbit Chronicles, A Mad Zombie Party, which is due out on September 29th.

a mad zombie partyThe battle rages on.

Ali Bell and Cole Holland’s crew of zombie slayers thought they’d won the war against Anima Industries, the evil company responsible for capturing and experimenting on zombies in an effort to discover the secret to immortality. In the last epic clash, the slayers lost many of their crew and closest friends. But Frosty, the ice man himself, has not recovered from one casualty in particular the love of his life, Kat Parker.

On the path to self-annihilation, Frosty receives a message from beyond Kat’s spirit returns, insisting he partner with rogue slayer Camilla Marks. Frosty will do anything for Kat. Except that. Camilla is the one who betrayed them all, leading to Kat’s death.

But when Anima rises from the grave to become a force the slayers may not have the strength to overcome, Frosty, Camilla and all the slayers will have to work together to survive. And one broken slayer will learn that sometimes, the line between hate and attraction is blurred…and the road to redemption isn’t through revenge, but in letting go of the past and grabbing hold of the future.

Next up is Bitter Bite, from Jennifer Estep‘s Elemental Assassin series. It is due out on February 23rd.

bitter biteWhich is stronger: blood ties or a battle-tested friendship?

It’s not easy being queen bee of an underworld abuzz with crooks and killers. Wielding my potent Ice and Stone elemental magic will only get me so far—my real secret is my tight-knit makeshift family, a motley crew of cops and criminals, dwarves and playboys. My foster brother Finnegan Lane is my right-hand man, but when his suddenly not-dead relative comes back into the picture, I’m the one on the outside looking in.

It’s funny how life works: one minute your best friend is rock-steady, and the next he’s doe-eyed and buying into this whole loving-relative routine to the point of ignoring you. I’d like to be happy for Finn, I really would. But all of my instincts are telling me that beneath the syrupy sweet demeanor and old-fashioned charm, this sudden interloper is planning something. The whole shtick leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. This person might have avoided the grave once, but I’ll put anyone who hurts Finn in the ground—for good.

Shelly Laurenson‘s second Call of Crows book will be called The Undoing, and it will be out on March 29th.

the undoing A risk worth taking…

No one would ever accuse Jace Berisha of having an easy life—considering her husband…you know…killed her. But that was then! Now she fights for mighty Viking gods with the spectacular and vicious Crows.

But things are turning very bad, very quickly because a vengeful, ancient goddess has come into the world with just one thing on her mind—ending it. And the only way they can hope to stop her is if the Crows join forces with their one-time enemies, the Protectors. A Viking Clan created to do nothing but kill every Crow they see.

Thankfully, Protector Ski Eriksen is a peace loving kind of guy. Because the woman he is desperately trying to get close to is the beautiful and not-very-chatty Jace. Battling Nordic clans? Unkillable goddesses? Jace’s mean-spirited dog? None of these things would ever get in the way of a true Viking!

And the final one for today is from Victoria Aveyard. The second book of her Red Queen series will be called Glass Sword, and it should be out on February 9th.

glass swordIf there’s one thing Mare Barrow knows, it’s that she’s different.

Mare Barrow’s blood is red—the color of common folk—but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control.

The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince—the friend—who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: She is not the only one of her kind.

Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors.

But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat.

Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?

Cover Lover – 5 New Titles

Things have been a bit quiet this week, so I thought I might do a cover lover post. I am going to start with one I am way too old for, but am looking forward to anyways. The Sword of Summer is the first book of the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series by Rick Riordan, and it is due out on October 6th.

magnus chaseMagnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother’s mysterious death, he’s lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers.

One day, he’s tracked down by a man he’s never met-a man his mother claimed was dangerous. The man tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god.

The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years.

When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision.

Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die . . .

Cover number 2 is from Asa Maria Bradley. Viking Warrior Rising is the first book of the Viking Warriors series, and it is due out on November 3rd.

viking warrior risingImmortal Vikings are among us.

Leif Skarsganger and his elite band of immortal warriors have been charged to protect humanity from the evil Norse god Loki.

Under attack from Loki’s minions, Leif is shocked to encounter a dark-haired beauty who fights like a warrior herself. Wounded and feverish, the Viking kisses her, inadvertently triggering an ancient Norse bond. But when Naya Brisbane breaks away and disappears before the bond is completed, Leif’s warrior spirit goes berserk. If Leif doesn’t find her fast, he’s going to lose himself to permanent battle fury.

But Naya doesn’t want to be found…and he’ll do anything to find her. Because they’re both running out of time.

This next one is from Elizabeth Hunter. The Scarlet Deep is from her Elemental World series, and it is due out on July 7th.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000446_00068]On the waves of the North Atlantic, a poison spreads, sapping the life from humans and striking madness into immortals.

Patrick Murphy, the immortal leader of Dublin, has been trying to stem the tide of Elixir washing into his territory, but nothing seems to stop the vampire drug. While others in the immortal world work to cure the creeping insanity that Elixir threatens, Murphy has been invited to London to join a summit of leaders hoping to discover who is shipping the drug. If Murphy and his allies can cut off the supply, they might be able to halt the spread long enough for a treatment to be found for the humans and vampires infected.

Anne O’Dea, Murphy’s former lover, retreated from public life over one hundred years ago to help immortals in need… and to heal her own broken heart. Though powerful connections keep her insulated from the violence of vampire politics, even Anne is starting to feel the effects of Elixir on her isolated world. The human blood supply has been tainted, and with Anne’s unique needs, even those closest to her might be in danger. Not just from infection, but Anne’s escalating bloodlust.

When Anne and Murphy are both called to London, they’re forced to confront a connection as immortal as they are. As they search for a traitor among allies, they must also come to terms with their past. Behind the safe facade of politics, old hungers still burn, even as an ancient power threatens the fate of the Elemental World.

Cover Lover – 5 New Titles

The Fever series by Karen Marie Moning has some epic covers (except for that one cheesy misstep, Burned), and this one is no exception. Actually, it was the covers that drew me in in the first place, and this one is a beauty, too. It has a different vibe than the previous ones, but it is pretty. Feverborn is due out on January 19th.

feverbornJenna Black has a new young adult release coming out next April called Nightstruck. I have to admit, I am tempted by the pretty cover on this one.

nightstruckThis next one is from Jennifer L. Armentrout and her New Adult Titan series. The Power is the second book to feature Seth, and it is due out on February 23rd.

the powerAnd the final one for today is from Rebecca Zanetti. Mercury Rising is the first book of the new Scorpius Syndrome, and it is due out on January 26th.

mercury risingI forgot about this one. The next Otherworld book from Yasmine Galenorn, Darkness Raging, is due out on February 2nd.

darkness ragingSo, which one is your favorite from this batch? I like Feverborn, even though I wish they had kept the same vibe as the earlier covers (those were awesome). To be honest, I actually am interested in getting all of these books, which is strange for me.

Cover Lover – The Dirt on Ninth Grave

As a little treat for today, we have the cover release of Darynda JonesThe Dirt on Ninth Grave, which is due out on January 5th. I will warn you now….

8eeb09d801266ad740b116ca0ecf1ed3Do NOT read the blurb unless you have read Eighth Grave After Dark. You have been warned.

In a small village in New York lives Jane Doe, a girl with no memory of who she is or where she came from. So when she is working at a diner and slowly begins to realize she can see dead people, she’s more than a little taken aback. Stranger still are the people entering her life. They seem to know things about her. Things they hide with lies and half-truths. Soon, she senses something far darker. A force that wants to cause her harm, she is sure of it. Her saving grace comes in the form of a new friend she feels she can confide in and the fry cook, a devastatingly handsome man whose smile is breathtaking and touch is scalding. He stays close, and she almost feels safe with him around.

But no one can outrun their past, and the more lies that swirl around her—even from her new and trusted friends—the more disoriented she becomes, until she is confronted by a man who claims to have been sent to kill her. Sent by the darkest force in the universe. A force that absolutely will not stop until she is dead. Thankfully, she has a Rottweiler. But that doesn’t help in her quest to find her identity and recover what she’s lost. That will take all her courage and a touch of the power she feels flowing like electricity through her veins. She almost feels sorry for him. The devil in blue jeans. The disarming fry cook who lies with every breath he takes. She will get to the bottom of what he knows if it kills her. Or him. Either way.

Eighth Grave was a game changer, and I am really interested to see how Ninth Grave moves on from those events. Looking forward to January big time.
