Cover Lover – 6 New Titles

This cover batch is overwhelming young adult, for some odd reason, but let’s start with the adult one. The Shadow is the second book of the Florentine series by Sylvain Reynard, and it is due out on February 2nd.

the shadowFrom the New York Times bestselling author of the Gabriel trilogy comes the hotly anticipated follow-up to The Raven, a sensual novel set in Florence featuring the dangerously intoxicating coupling of Raven and William…

Raven Wood’s vampyre prince has returned, pledging his love and promising justice for every wrong done to her. In the wake of their reunion, Raven is faced with a terrible decision—allow the Prince to wreak vengeance against the demons of her past, or persuade him to stay his hand. But there is far more at stake than Raven’s heart…

A shadow has fallen over the city of Florence. Ispettor Batelli will not rest until he uncovers Raven’s connection to the theft of the priceless art from the Uffizi Gallery. And while the Prince hunts a traitor who sabotages him at every turn, he finds himself the target of the vampyres’ mortal enemy.

As he wages a war on two fronts, he will need to keep his love for Raven secret, or risk exposing his greatest weakness…

Now on to the YA. Lauren Kate announced a surprise 5th book to her Fallen series a while back called Unforgiven. It will be released on November 10th.

unforgivenIt’s the book FALLEN fans have been waiting for: Cam’s story, the brooding, bad-boy dark angel readers love.

High school can be hell.

Cam knows what it’s like to be haunted. He’s spent more time in Hell than any angel ever should. And his freshest Hell is high school, where Lilith, the girl he can’t stop loving, is serving out a punishment for his crimes.

Cam made a bet with Lucifer: he has fifteen days to convince the only girl who really matters to him to love him again. If he succeeds, Lilith will be allowed back into the world, and they can live their lives together. But if he fails…there’s a special place in Hell just for him.

Tick-tock.

Spread your wings and cry as bad boy dark angel Cam finally reveals his anguished heart in the epic new FALLEN novel, UNFORGIVEN.

This next one intrigues me. Veronica Rossi will start a new series next February with the release of Riders, which focuses on the four horsemen YA style. Book two will be called Seeker, released in 2017.

ridersFor eighteen-year-old Gideon Blake, nothing but death can keep him from achieving his goal of becoming a U.S. Army Ranger. As it turns out, it does.

Recovering from the accident that most definitely killed him, Gideon finds himself with strange new powers and a bizarre cuff he can’t remove. His death has brought to life his real destiny. He has become War, one of the legendary four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Over the coming weeks, he and the other horsemen—Conquest, Famine and Death—are brought together by a beautiful but frustratingly secretive girl to help save humanity from an ancient evil on the emergence.

They fail.

Now—bound, bloodied, and drugged—Gideon is interrogated by the authorities about his role in a battle that has become an international incident. If he stands any chance of saving his friends and the girl he’s fallen for—not to mention all of humankind—he needs to convince the skeptical government officials the world is in imminent danger.

But will anyone believe him?

This next one is from the Twixt series by Dawn Metcalf. Insidious is the third book in the series, and it is due out on August 25th.

insidiousTrue evil is rarely obvious. It is quiet, patient.

Insidious.

Awaiting the perfect moment to strike.

Joy Malone finally knows who she is, where she comes from and how to live in two worlds at once. And now she can introduce her family and friends to her mysterious boyfriend, Indelible Ink. But when Ink’s twin sister, Invisible Inq, calls in a favor, Joy must accept a dangerous mission to find a forgotten door between worlds—a door hiding a secret that some will kill to keep.

Unseen enemies, treasonous magic and an unthinkable betrayal threaten both the Twixt and human worlds as Joy races to expose an ancient conspiracy and unleash the unalterable truth—some secrets cannot remain secret forever.

The Rule of Mirrors by Caragh M. O’Brien is the second book of the Vault of Dreamers series, and it has a release date of February 16th.

rule of mirrorsAnd wrapping things up for today is The Mirror King, which is the second book in the Orphan Queen series by Jodi Meadows. It is due out on April 5th.

the mirror kingSo, there we have it for today. Any favorites or anticipated reads? Which of these will you be checking out?

Cover Lover – Spider Game

Well, huh. This is…different. Christine Feehan upped the cover for her next Ghostwalkers book, Spider Game, to Facebook last week (yep, I missed it until just now). At first glance, I totally thought that the cover chick was pole dancing. On second glance, I still think she is pole dancing, but with spider webs. Got to admit, this one isn’t a favorite of mine, and I would so totally be mortified to be caught with it in public. I do hope this one goes back to old school Ghostwalker style, rather than the Breeds clone the last couple of books have been. We will find out when it is released on January 26th.

spider gameThe Cajun dive in the middle of the godforsaken swamps wasn’t exactly Trap Dawkins’ idea of fun. But the GhostWalker wasn’t there for a good time. He was looking for her. Cayenne. It’s where she found her victims. Poor suckers. Then again, who wouldn’t want to leave a place like this with a woman like her?

It’s not Cayenne’s fault. Locked up, experimented on and never knowing kindness, she was bred this way—with a heart of pure venom. Trap understands her. He survived his own dark past and he shares her desire for getting even. But now Trap’s greatest danger is Cayenne herself. Because what’s inside her is hard to control—especially when it’s aroused by a lover as reckless as Trap.

What is your take on this cover? Good, bad, or just plain ugly? I think this is the type of cover e-books were made for, but that might just be me.

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

I was waiting to see if anything new came out over the last couple of days, but it looks like there is only four covers for this batch. Let’s start with the upcoming novella from Eileen Wilks‘ World of the Lupi series. Human Nature will be released on August 18th. It was originally released in the anthology Inked.

human natureFBI Agent Lily Yu is turning twenty-nine—a milestone she’s decidedly ambivalent about. But her birthday celebration is cut short when the naked, heavily tattooed body of a man is found in a Northern California town. The victim was David Pruitt, and years ago, he was close friends with Rule Turner, prince of the lupi.

At first it seems like a bizarre ritual killing, but there’s more than magic afoot: David wasn’t human. And the killer isn’t finished…

This next cover is from Seanan McGuire. A Red Rose Chain is part of the October Daye series, and it is due out on September 1st.

a red rose chainOctober is still recovering from the discovery that Evening Winterrose is alive—but sadly, that doesn’t mean the rest of her problems have taken a vacation. When the King of Silences declares war on the Mists, it falls to Toby and her friends to try to prevent the conflict…a task that will require them to travel to another Kingdom, where old enemies and new will be waiting to ensure that her efforts will come to naught.

And the final one for today is from Rachel Vincent. The first book of her new Menagerie series, also called Menagerie, will be released on September 29th.

menagerieWhen Delilah Marlow visits a famous traveling carnival, Metzger’s Menagerie, she is an ordinary woman in a not-quite-ordinary world. But under the macabre circus black-top, she discovers a fierce, sharp-clawed creature lurking just beneath her human veneer. Captured and put on exhibition, Delilah in her black swan burlesque costume is stripped of her worldly possessions, including her own name, as she’s forced to “perform” in town after town.

But there is breathtaking beauty behind the seamy and grotesque reality of the carnival. Gallagher, her handler, is as kind as he is cryptic and strong. The other “attractions”—mermaids, minotaurs, gryphons and kelpies—are strange, yes, but they share a bond forged by the brutal realities of captivity. And as Delilah struggles for her freedom, and for her fellow menagerie, she’ll discover a strength and a purpose she never knew existed.

Another traveler has stolen an object of untold value from them, and, if Etta can find it, they will return her to her own time. Out of options, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the mysterious traveler. So, which ones will you be picking up? I have actually been following along with Sweep in Peace at Ilona Andrews’ website, but I am looking forward to giving the whole book a re-read when I pick up the print version. That is probably it for me from this batch. What about you?

Cover Lover – Kresley Cole’s Sweet Ruin

I woke up to an email from Alexandra, who kindly sent the link to the cover for the next Immortals After Dark book from Kresley Cole. It looks like the book will be called Sweet Ruin, but there still isn’t any real info yet about who it will feature, but it still has a release date of December 1st.

sweet ruinHm, different. Better than the last few hardcovers, that is for sure. But I am wondering about the symbolism of the feather thingy. And female on the front rather than male makes me think it won’t be about Munro. So, I am guessing Furie (female, wings). Any thoughts?

Cover Lover – Shadow’s End

Of all of the characters in Thea Harrison‘s Elder Races series, Graydon is my favorite. I am not sure how thrilled I am with his HEA being with Beluviel, but then again I don’t get a vote. I got the vibe that she was going to be way back in Lord’s Fall, and I was hoping I was wrong. Nothing against Beluviel, but I wanted someone new for Graydon. Either way, Shadow’s End is due out on December 1st.

shadow's endFor Beluviel, consort to the Elven High Lord, and Graydon, gryphon and First Sentinel of the Wyr, even the slightest desire for each other is forbidden. But two hundred years ago, after a desperate play to save Beluviel’s stepson left them indebted to the cruel Djinn Malphas, they found their fates inexorably linked together—and the hunger between them growing too strong to ignore…

Two centuries later, with their debt to Malphas coming due, Beluviel and Graydon realize that, if they are to stand any chance of saving their souls, they must once again work together—this time more closely than ever before. But every moment they spend with each other brings them nearer to losing something even more vital—their hearts…

Well, I am a bit meh on this one. While the series really doesn’t have the greatest covers, this one is a bit underwhelming even for them. How excited are you to get to Graydon’s story? Do you think Beluviel matches up well with him?

Spotlight on…Bound to Darkness

Last year, Lara Adrian announced that she was leaving traditional publishing and striking out on the self-pubbed route. She assured everyone that nothing would change with her popular Midnight Breed series, except that it would no longer be offered in hardcover format. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical, but it looks like word is starting to come out about Bound to Darkness. The good news is that the initial release date of December 31st has been changed…to July 30th. It isn’t often that books get moved ahead, which is a bonus, and here is the cover and blurb to get you into the mood…

bound to darknessCarys Chase is accustomed to making her own rules and letting her heart lead the way–no matter what anyone else has to say about it. A rare Breed female and a daywalker as well, headstrong, beautiful Carys is one of the most powerful of her kind. She lives passionately and loves without limits, especially when it comes to the lethal cage-fighting Breed warrior called Rune.

Unbeatable in the ring, Rune exists in a brutal world of blood and bone and death. He’s made his share of enemies both in and out of the arena, and his secrets run as deep and turbulent as his past. A dangerous loner who has survived by his fists and fangs, Rune has never allowed anyone to get too close to him…until Carys. But when the bodies buried in his past rise up to threaten his present, Rune must choose between betraying Carys’s trust or putting her in the crosshairs of a battle neither of them can hope to win on their own.

So, if you are like me, you are glad to see that the overall cover design stayed the same, even if the format changed (this one will be out in trade paperback rather than hardcover). I actually decided to drop the series a couple of books back, but are you looking forward to checking this one out?

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

Time for another cover lover post, and while some of them have been making the rounds for a few days now I was too lazy to post them. Let’s start with Autumn Thorns, the first book of the new Whisper Hollow series from Yasmine Galenorn, which is due out on October 27th.

autumn thornsFifteen years ago, I ran away from Whisper Hollow, Washington, a small town on Crescent Lake in the Olympic Peninsula. But truth is, if you were born here, you can never really leave. As a spirit shaman, it’s my responsibility to drive the dead back to their graves, because around Whisper Hollow, people—and secrets—don’t always stay buried.

When I was little, I was told my mother ran off. But now it looks like she was murdered. With the help of my mysterious neighbor Bryan, we begin to unravel the mystery of her disappearance, and in doing so, unearth a dark force seeking to bury Whisper Hollow. Now I must work with the dead, rather than against them, because our enemy will do whatever she can to destroy the town, and she means to start with me.

Even though I have never read a Galenorn novel, I do love pretty much all of her covers. All of hers are, I believe, Tony Mauro creations, and they are consistently great. I wish every author had such cover luck.

Cover Lover – Blood of the Earth

Sometimes, I do things backwards, and that includes reading. I have recently started reading the Jane Yellowrook series from Faith Hunter, and it was prompted by my interest in checking out the upcoming Blood of the Earth. It is the first book of the Jane spin-off series called Soulwood, and it will be released on October 6th.

blood of the earthWhen Nell Ingram met skinwalker Jane Yellowrock, she was almost alone in the world, exiled by both choice and fear from the cult she was raised in, defending herself with the magic she drew from her deep connection to the forest that surrounds her.

Now, Jane has referred Nell to PsyLED, a Homeland Security agency policing paranormals, and agent Rick LaFleur has shown up at Nell’s doorstep. His appearance forces her out of her isolated life into an investigation that leads to the vampire Blood Master of Nashville.

Nell has a team—and a mission. But to find the Master’s kidnapped vassal, Nell and the PsyLED team will be forced to go deep into the heart of the very cult Nell fears, infiltrating the cult and a humans-only terrorist group before time runs out…

Is anyone interested in checking this one out? I have to admit, I am only on the second book of the Jane Yellowrock series, but I have hopes that I can get another few books into the series before this one comes out. I do love the fact that they kept the same look for the new books, since the Jane books are a standout.
