Cover Lover – 10 New Titles

It used to be pretty standard to do a cover lover post a week, but I find for the last while it is more like one a month or so. Not sure why, but it just feels like there isn’t as much info on new books coming out, either. At least for this batch, I found 10 covers to take a look at. Let’s start with the biggie of the group, which comes from Anne Bishop. Lake Silence is the 6th book set in The Others world, and it has a release date of March 6th.

lake silenceIn this thrilling and suspenseful fantasy, set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Others series, Vicki DeVine and her lodger, the shapeshifter Aggie Crowe, stumble onto a dead body . . . and find themselves enmeshed in danger and dark secrets.

Human laws do not apply in the territory controlled by the Others—vampires, shapeshifters, and paranormal beings even more deadly. And this is a fact that humans should never, ever forget . . .

After her divorce, Vicki DeVine took over a rustic resort near Lake Silence, in a human town that is not human controlled. Towns like Vicki’s have no distance from the Others, the dominant predators that rule most of the land and all of the water throughout the world. And when a place has no boundaries, you never really know what’s out there watching you.

Vicki was hoping to find a new career and a new life. But when her lodger, Aggie Crowe—one of the shapeshifting Others—discovers a dead body, Vicki finds trouble instead. The detectives want to pin the man’s death on her, despite the evidence that nothing human could have killed the victim. As Vicki and her friends search for answers, things get dangerous—and it’ll take everything they have to stay alive.

Next up is Perfect Gravity from Vivien Jackson. It is the second book of the Tether series, and it has a release date of November 7th.

perfect gravityKellen Hockley usually keeps quiet about his past, but once upon a time he loved a girl named Angela. He hasn’t seen her in a decade, but now he has to break the news to her that his team of rogue treasure hunters accidentally killed her husband. He’s had better days…

It’s not the news that’s delivered to Angela Neko that breaks her apart–it’s the rumbly, Texas drawl delivering it. She can’t believe she’s hearing Kellen’s voice again. But there’s no time for distractions. When Angela’s own life is threatened, yielding up all of her lies and secrets, she and Kellen must figure out how to reverse the geopolitical firestorm she lit to save the world, to save Kellen’s cat…and just maybe to save each other.

And Isabel Cooper has a new one due out also on November 7th. Highland Dragon Rebel is the second book of the Dawn of the Highland Warrior series.

highland dragon rebelMadoc of Avandos is on a journey to cement alliances. Targeted by an assassin, he needs a companion who can fight. When dragon shifter Moiread MacAlasdair returns from war, he knows she’s the best woman for the job. Duty and political strength compel Moiread to agree, but when they cross into the otherworld and Madoc’s life is threatened, Moiread jumps into protection mode-and will do whatever it takes to keep the man of her dreams alive.

This next one is from Kerrelyn Sparks. Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon is the third book of The Embraced series, and it will be released on March 27th.

eight simple rules for dating a dragonGwennore has a talent. An Elf able to track down the cause of an illness and heal it, she’s a valuable asset to her people. But when the kidnapping of a young girl thrusts Gwennore into the very heart of the realm of the dragons, she discovers not only a place of power and magic, but also a haunted land, plagued by an ancient curse that all but ensures extinction to the royal family. But when she meets the smoldering General Silas Dravenko, they strike a bargain—save the country from its cursed illness, and he will return the kidnapped girl. She’s been raised never to trust a dragon, but never did making a deal with the devil feel so good…

Silas has no way of curing the family he’s loyally served for years. But when a beautiful elf, long considered the enemy of the dragons, comes bursting into his world, Silas is awakened to passion and desire in a way he’s never felt before. But can he trust a sworn enemy to save the very existence he holds dear? And can their love survive those that threaten to tear them apart?

This is another one on my “one day” list. Eileen Wilks‘ 14th World of the Lupi book will be called Dragon Blood, and it will be out on December 5th.

dragon blood

January 30th is the release date for Baby I’m Howling For You, which is the first book of the Alphaville series from Christine Warren.

baby i'm howling for youRenny Landry is a wolf on the run. Pursued by a shapeshifting stalker and his slobbering pack of killer coyotes, she is forced to flee her job as a librarian to find sanctuary in the wooded hills of Alpha, Washington. A well-secluded safe space for troubled shifters, Alpha is Renny’s last hope. But the first person she meets there is a gorgeous alpha male with fiery eyes, fierce tattoos, and one ferocious appetite—for her…

Mick Fischer thought he left his past behind when he moved to Alpha. But fate has a way of biting him in the tail when a female wolf shows up on his property. Wounded, desperate—and disarmingly hot—Renny brings out the snarling, protective alpha beast in Mick like no other woman he’s known. Can these two haunted, hunted wolves manage to mate for life…even as the deadliest past demons howl at their heels?

This next cover is for Aliens Abroad, the 16th book of the Katherine “Kitty” Katt series from Gini Koch. It will be out on December 5th.

aliens abroad.jpgWith the human population growing and alien refugees pouring in from around the galaxy, Earth is becoming too overcrowded to sustain itself—and the solar system is filling up with the alien overflow. Advanced technology from the Alpha Centauri and Vatusan systems offers one possible solution. It’s time to explore new planets and see if any uninhabited ones can be claimed.

The President and First Lady, aka Jeff and Kitty Katt-Martini, aren’t supposed to be on this mission, but what looks like a snafu during a political photo op on the newly christened Distant Voyager spaceship turns out to be a call for help from a planet that might be Earth’s salvation…or its destruction.

The discovery of a world at the opposite end of the galaxy that seems like it could be a twin to Earth creates the usual issues for Kitty & Company. It also raises questions of Z’porrah and Ancient influence—not to mention cloning, the multiverse, and, scariest of all, whether or not the Black Hole Universe Police are starting to take too much of an interest in this particular universe.

For some reason, I thought this next one was young adult, but apparently I was mistaken. Bannerless, the first book of the Bannerless Saga from Carrie Vaughn, is an adult dystopian. It is due out this July 11th.

bannerlessDecades after economic and environmental collapse destroys much of civilization in the United States, the Coast Road region isn’t just surviving but thriving by some accounts, building something new on the ruins of what came before. A culture of population control has developed in which people, organized into households, must earn the children they bear by proving they can take care of them and are awarded symbolic banners to demonstrate this privilege. In the meantime, birth control is mandatory.

Enid of Haven is an Investigator, called on to mediate disputes and examine transgressions against the community. She’s young for the job and hasn’t yet handled a serious case. Now, though, a suspicious death requires her attention. The victim was an outcast, but might someone have taken dislike a step further and murdered him?

In a world defined by the disasters that happened a century before, the past is always present. But this investigation may reveal the cracks in Enid’s world and make her question what she really stands for.

These next two are both young adult, starting with Inferno from Julie Kagawa. It is the 5th book of the Talon series, and it will be released on April 24th.

inferno

And the last one for today is from Kristen Simmons. Pacifica is a stand-alone young adult science fiction release which is due out on March 6th.

pacificaMarin is cosario royalty, a pirate like her father and his father before him. Sailing the ocean to chase adventure is in her blood. But these days no one cares that the island town her people call home is named after her grandfather. They have a new leader, one who promises an end to their hunger – and one who thinks that girls are meant for the kitchen or the brothel. Marin knows she’s meant for more than that, and with the sudden influx of weapons on the island, and rumors of a pending deal with the enemy oil nation in her wake, she knows a big score to gain the council’s favor is the only way to save her people, and herself.

Ross lives a life of privilege. As the president’s son he wants for nothing, but he longs for a life of adventure. On a dare, he convinces his best friend Adam to sneak out to the Docks, the site of local race riots between the poor Shorlings and the upper class. But when Adam is arrested along with the other Shorlings, and not even the president is willing to find him, Ross finds himself taking matters into his own hands. He journeys back into the Docks, ready to make deals with anyone, even a beautiful pirate, if it means Adam’s safe return.

When Marin and Ross meet in dangerous Shoreling territory he sees a way to get his friend back and she sees her ticket home. The ransom a president’s son would command could feed her people for years and restore her family’s legacy. But somewhere in the middle of the ocean, Marin must decide if her heart can handle handing over the only person who has ever seen her as more than a pirate.

There you have it. Any standouts for you? I admit that I like Lake Silence – it echoes the first five, but still has its own vibe. It is my favorite of the batch, for sure.

Cover Lover – Judgment Road

Over on Happily Ever After, they had an exclusive cover reveal for the first book in the Torpedo Ink series from Christine Feehan, Judgment Road. Info on this one has been pretty scarce, but it looks like the main character will be Reaper, who was introduced in the final Sisters of the Heart book. I of course went to the guide to remind myself just who Reaper was…only to discover that yes, I am also behind on that guide and Reaper isn’t listed. Of course. So. Reaper! Whoever he is, he will be in Judgment Road. If you stroll over to the HEA website, you can also check out a short excerpt. On to the cover goodness…

9780451488510_JudgmentRoad_FCO_mech.indd

Not bad, honestly. I like the colors, and the Sea Haven books have always had the best of all the Feehan covers (not that it is hard to be better than some of those horrendous Carpathian jobbies). I am so going to have to go back soonish and pull a Bound Together re-read before this one is released on January 30th.

Cover Lover – This Fallen Prey

Usually, I quite strictly follow my own rule of only posting about PNR or UF books. But once in a while, a favorite author branches out to a different genre, and I break down and show a little tidbit. In this case, the favorite author is Kelley Armstrong, and she has released the cover and blurb for her third Casey Duncan/Rockton book, This Fallen Prey. From what she has said, the publisher has decided to change direction with the cover art, and I am not so sure that was the best idea. I really liked the first two, but this one is…dirt. And roots. But mostly dirt. Meh. And I still can’t wait to get my hands on it when it is released next February.

this fallen preyWhen Casey first arrived at the off-the-grid town, an isolated community built as a haven for people running from their pasts, she had no idea what to expect, with no cell phones, no internet, no mail, and no way of getting in or out without the town council’s approval. But the very last thing she expected was for the council to drop a dangerous criminal into their midst without a plan to keep him imprisoned, and to keep others safe.

Of course Oliver Brady claims he’s being set up. But the longer Brady stays in town, the more things start to go wrong. When evidence comes to light that someone inside Rockton might be working as his accomplice, helping him to escape, Casey races to figure out who exactly Brady is and what crimes he’s truly responsible for committing.

Having this to look forward to in no way diminishes the pain I will feel when Cainsville wraps up this fall, but it doesn’t hurt, either. What are your current non-PNR/UF favorite reads? Do you have any favorite cross-genre authors?

Cover Lover – 9 New Titles

I can’t believe it has been well over a month since my last cover lover post. Honestly, though, there just wasn’t that much going on. There were a few uploaded here and there, but nothing that grabbed my attention. So, here is a bit of a sampling of what I have found for the last few weeks.

Deborah Hunter recently started up a new series called Nava Katz, and the second book will be released on June 26th. It is called The Unlikeable Demon Hunter: Sting.

the unlikeable demon hunter sting50% boobs. 50% sarcasm. 100% new breed of hunter.

After a bumpy start as the only female demon hunter in the top secret Brotherhood of David, Nava Katz heads to Prague for her first undercover mission: unmasking a demon movie star. She’d be all kinds of thrilled if it weren’t for the fact that her fellow hunter-with-benefits, Rohan Mitra, has reclaimed his rock star status and assigned Nava the role of groupie.

Rejecting her “be a good girl and follow orders” directive, Nava unleashes an alter ego guaranteed to hook their celebrity target and drive Rohan crazy. No downside–until she finds herself up against Rohan’s past, the Brotherhood’s antiquated thinking, and her own identity issues, turning her personal life into the bomb that could blow up the entire operation.

Sparkly and deadly; it’s a plan.

Did you know that there is an Innkeeper Chronicles collection coming from Ilona Andrews? I didn’t. It is a limited hardcover edition featuring all three of the first Innkeeper stories, and it will be released on May 31st.

inkeeper chronicles volume 1Meet Dina Demille, a nice Texas gal who runs a seemingly ordinary, quaint B&B.  But Dina’s inn is a magic, thinking entity; her fluffy Shih-tzu, Beast really is a beast; and her guests are the kind that no one on earth is supposed to know about:  guests like a dethroned galactic tyrant with a massive bounty on her head, the Lord Marshal of a powerful vampire clan, and a displaced—and superhot—alpha-strain werewolf.

So don’t expect a normal stay…and don’t stand too close, or you may be collateral damage….

In Clean Sweep, Dina—with the unwanted assistance of newcomer (and alpha werewolf) Sean Evans and Arland, a cosmic vampire soldier—takes on an extraterrestrial killing machine that could destroy her Inn, her neighbors, and everything she holds dear.

Sweep in Peace, finds Dina hosting an anything-but peace summit between three warring intergalactic species; Space Vampires, the Hope-Crushing Horde, and the devious Merchants of Baha-char.

One Fell Sweep sends Dina to the galaxy’s worst penal colony to rescue her sister; and back home to fend off a clan of assassins in pursuit, all while saving a guest’s civilization from annihilation…and searching for her missing parents.

September 5th is the release date for White Trash Zombie Unchained, the 6th White Trash Zombie book from Diana Rowland.

white trash zombie unchained.jpgAngel Crawford has finally pulled herself together (literally!) after her disastrous dismemberment on Mardi Gras. She’s putting the pieces of her life back in order and is ready to tackle whatever the future holds.

Too bad the future is a nasty bitch. There’s a new kind of zombie in town: mindless shamblers, infectious and ravenous.

With the threat of a full-blown shambler pandemic looming, and a loved one stricken, Angel and the “real” zombies scramble to find a cure. Yet when Angel uncovers the true reason the plague is spreading so quickly, she adds “no-holds-barred revenge” to her to-do list.

Angel is busting her ass dealing with shambling hordes, zombie gators, government jerks, and way too many mosquitos, but this white trash chick ain’t giving up.

Good thing, since the fate of the world is resting on her undead shoulders.

Holly Black will start a new young adult fantasy series next year called The Folk of the Air. The first book is called The Cruel Prince, and it will be released on January 2nd.

the cruel prince.jpgOf course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.

And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.

Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.

To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.

In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

Another young adult fantasy book heading our way is Ever the Brave from Erin Summerill. It is the second book of her Clash of Kingdoms series, and it is due out on December 5th.

ever the braveAfter saving King Aodren with her newfound Channeler powers, Britta only wants to live a peaceful life in her childhood home. Unfortunately, saving the King has created a tether between them she cannot sever, no matter how much she’d like to, and now he’s insisting on making her a noble lady. And there are those who want to use Britta’s power for evil designs. If Britta cannot find a way to harness her new magical ability, her life—as well as her country—may be lost.

The stakes are higher than ever in the sequel to Ever the Hunted, as Britta struggles to protect her kingdom and her heart.

And guess what? This is another young adult fantasy cover, this time from author Morgan Rhodes. Immortal Reign is the 6th book in her Falling Kingdoms series, and it has a release date of December 12th.

immortal reignJonas continues to willfully defy his destiny, but the consequences of plotting his own course are drastic. As the fight for Mytica rages on, he must decide just how much more he’s willing to sacrifice.

Lucia knows there’s something special about her daughter and she’ll do anything to protect her, even if that means facing Kyan alone.

Amara is called back home to Kraeshia. Grandma Cortas has her own plans for Mytica’s future. She promises Amara power, revenge, and dominance if she agrees to be part of her scheme.

Magnus and Cleo‘s love will be put to the ultimate test. Dark magic is causing widespread destruction throughout the kingdom. Enemies across the sea are advancing. And unrest is stirring throughout the land. Is their love strong enough to withstand the outside forces tearing them apart?

This next one is from Bec McMaster. The Mech Who Loved Me is the second book of the London Steampunk: The Blue Blood Conspiracy series, and it will be released on June 27th.

the mech who loved meAva McLaren is tired of being both a virgin, and a mere laboratory assistant for the Company of Rogues. When a baffling mystery rears its head, it presents her with the opportunity to work a real case… and perhaps get a taste of the passion that eludes her.

Blue bloods are dying from a mysterious disease, which should be impossible. Ava suspects there’s more to the case than meets the eye and wants a chance to prove herself. There’s just one catch—she’s ordered to partner with the sexy mech, Kincaid, who’s a constant thorn in her side. Kincaid thinks the only good blue blood is a dead one. He’s also the very last man she would ever give her heart to… which makes him the perfect candidate for an affair.

The only rule? It ends when the case does.

But when an attempt on her life proves that Ava might be onto something, the only one who can protect her is Kincaid. Suddenly the greatest risk is not to their hearts, but whether they can survive a diabolical plot that threatens to destroy every blue blood in London—including Ava.

I had honestly figured this series was dead, but then Coreene Callahan released the cover art for her 6th Dragonfury series, Fury of Surrender. This one has a release date of July 11th.

fury of surrenderDragon-warrior Forge has been sentenced to death by the Dragonkind elite. Recalling the memories of his family’s murders could drive him to the edge of insanity, but it’s the only way to remove the target on his back. Fiercely determined to protect his pack and his newborn son, Forge agrees to undergo harrowing treatments to help him remember the trauma buried deep inside his heart and mind. When nothing works, a woman of unprecedented power is brought in to help.

Young, bright, and haunted by her own demons, hypnotherapist Hope Cunningham helps patients recover from their darkest memories. But each time she liberates a wayward soul, Hope’s personal pain digs deeper—until one patient ignites an unforgettable passion.

Forge’s healing journey is not without risk. Unwittingly, he has put Hope in the middle of a dangerous war, one that could shatter their eternal bond. Will the curative power of love be enough to save them?

The third and final book of Kristin Casts‘ young adult The Escaped series will be called Cerulean Sea, and it will be out on October 17th.

cerulean sea

I know there were probably a ton of covers that I didn’t catch, and I find I have been letting things slide around here the last couple of months while I try and get other things in order. Nothing major, but just life stuff that seems to suck up all the free time. Hopefully I have things back on track now and I won’t get behind again. Hopefully.

Next Up From J.R. Ward

It was recently announced that J.R. Ward‘s upcoming 16th book of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series will be called The Thief, and it will be Sola and Assail’s story. But while we have to wait until April 3rd of next year for The Thief, we also have another story to look forward to. The third Black Dagger Legacy book will be called Blood Fury, and it will be released on January 9th. Looks like it is Novo and Peyton’s turn.

blood furySynopsis…

A tough vampire warrior in training and her fellow aristocratic trainee struggle to deny the attraction they feel for one another as they prepare for the looming war ahead. The latest in a new paranormal romance series set in the world of the #1 New York Times bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood.

Brothers at the Black Dagger Brotherhood training center push recruits to the limit to become faster and stronger than ever before as they continue preparing for the fight against the lessening society. Novo, a resilient survivor and a bit rough around the edges, has overcome a great deal, including her intense attraction to suave, aristocratic Peyton. The two fighters shared a passionate physical connection. But when Peyton finally comes to terms with and admits his true feelings for Novo she rejects him for a more stable male. Now they must train in close quarters and eventually confront the feelings they still undoubtedly harbor for one another.

I’m not sure how excited I am for a Peyton/Novo pairing at this point, but things could change once I get into their story more. I think I am more interested in who the featured Brother will be. Maybe Qhuinn? He could use some major image rehabbing after his complete douchbaggy-ness in The Chosen, so maybe he can redeem himself a little helping out Peyton and Novo. But it would have to be pretty epic, because it is going to take me a while to get over how huge a tool he was.

Pick of the Week and Mini Review

There are a couple my guilty-pleasure books that were released today, but thanks to the delivery gods I actually got my hands on both Bound Together from Christine Feehan and Wake a Sleeping Tiger from Lora Leigh a day early. Then I had the endless debate about which one to read first, but Bound Together won out. And since I actually finished it, it is my pick of the week.

bound-togetherSynopsis…

For five years, Viktor Prakenskii has put his life on hold in order to take down the world’s most feared motorcycle club from the inside. But carrying out the insane violence and seeing the club’s exploitation of the innocent has brought his traumatic past roaring back. And there’s only one cure: to see the wife he left behind…

Blythe Daniels thought she’d never see Viktor again after he murdered her stepfather and left without a word. She rebuilt her life without him, becoming a personal trainer and physical therapist…becoming strong enough for others to lean on. But when Viktor comes back to Sea Haven, he’ll make Blythe question everything she thought she knew about good and evil—and the dark desires of the heart…

So, I liked it. Quite a lot, actually. The Sea Haven books are the only Feehan series that didn’t have a style/tone change during “the questionable period”, and it has stayed a consistent favorite of mine. It managed to wrap up the Sisters of the Heart arc, link with the Drake Sisters books, all while setting up the upcoming Torpedo Ink series.

There is only two things I can say didn’t quite work for me – one is style, one is subject. On the style side, Christine once again introduces a ton of new characters in a relatively short period of time, and trying to keep a ton of Russian names – and nicknames – was tricky. Thankfully, there are only a few of the Torpedo Ink gang who play a major role in this book, so while they were all introduced in a big jumble, it was necessary to only remember a couple of the new gang.

My second quibble might sound cold, but I am hoping that Christine moves on from the whole human trafficking/child rape angle really soon. I know it is a real world issue, but it has come up in pretty much every book of each of her five series for the last couple of years, and honestly? I am getting a bit numb to the brutalized children thing – especially since it seems like it is getting more intense. In early books, there were characters who had suffered in the past (like Skyler in the Dark series), to those who had been recently abused (like Nicoletta in Shadow Riders) to walking in on the abuse as it is happening. Maybe if it was only featured in one series, but when it is a theme across the board, it gets a bit overwhelming.

Now, I’m off to dive into Wake a Sleeping Tiger. And of course, when I was flipping to the back to see if there were any excerpts for the next Breeds book, I saw a major plot point that can’t be unseen. I always do that crap. Always. Arrgh.

Cover Lover – Archangel’s Viper

Just when I was thinking that there wasn’t much to post for today, I caught a glimpse of this beauty. Nalini Singh‘s next Guild Hunter book, Archangel’s Viper, will finally be Venom and Sorrow’s story, and it has a release date of September 26th.

archangel's viperOnce a broken girl known as Sorrow, Holly Chang now prowls the shadowy gray underground of the city for the angels. But it’s not her winged allies who make her a wanted woman—it’s the unknown power coursing through her veins. Brutalized by an insane archangel, she was left with the bloodlust of a vampire, the ability to mesmerize her prey, and a poisonous bite.

Now, someone has put a bounty on her head…

Venom is one of the Seven, Archangel Raphael’s private guard, and he’s as infuriating as he is seductive. A centuries-old vampire, his fangs dispense a poison deadlier than Holly’s. But even if Venom can protect Holly from those hunting her, he might not be able to save himself—because the strange, violent power inside Holly is awakening…

No one is safe.

Ooooh, my pretty. I had still been holding out hope that Sorrow was going to be paired up with Bluebell, but honestly this doesn’t disappoint me, either.

Cover Lover – 9 New Titles

I was all set to upload this post yesterday, but technical difficulties put me in the most foul mood imaginable so I got fed up and went to bed instead. So, it might be a day late, but here are nine covers for some upcoming releases.

Let’s start with Dark Legacy, the next Carpathian hardcover from Christine Feehan. This one has a release date of September 5th.

dark legacyIn a beautiful compound hidden away from the world, Emeline Sanchez tries to blunt the pain that has wracked her body ever since her terrifying ordeal in the labyrinth beneath the city—when she was forced to exchange blood with an evil master vampire.

Now, it’s his voice that haunts her…that calls to her in the dark…that never lets her rest. And while the children that she helped to free from his clutches struggle to heal, watched over by their Carpathian protectors, Emeline knows one thing: She must sacrifice herself to keep them all from harm…

Flame in the Dark is a biggie for me. I really liked the Soulwood series, and I was so happy to see that Faith Hunter recently announced that there will be even more books set in this world. This one has a release date of December 5th.

flame in the darkNell Ingram has always known she was different. Since she was a child, she’s been able to feel and channel ancient powers from deep within the earth. When she met Jane Yellowrock, her entire life changed, and she was recruited into PsyLED—the Homeland Security division that polices paranormals. But now her newly formed unit is about to take on its toughest case yet.

A powerful senator barely survives an assassination attempt that leaves many others dead—and the house he was visiting burns to the ground. Invisible to security cameras, the assassin literally disappears, and Nell’s team is called in. As they track a killer they know is more—or less—than human, they unravel a web of dark intrigue and malevolent motives that tests them to their limits and beyond.

MaryJanice Davidson‘s next release is Deja New, the second book from her Insighter series. It has a release date of November 7th.

deja newLeah Nazir lives in a world where the past can and will come back to bite you in the ass. No, not teething ghosts—reincarnation! As an Insighter, it’s Leah’s job to delve into the murky and (often) deadly former lives of her patients. And she knows a thing or two about danger after killing her mother’s murderer with the help of new beau, Archer Drake.

Isn’t he the best?

Now, it’s time to take their relationship to the next level, but not in any way Leah could have predicted. She and Archer head to Chicago to meet his parents—and try to figure out why Archer’s dad killed his brother decades ago. When someone tries to sabotage their investigation, Leah must decide if the Drake family past is a deal breaker…

Number four is from Yasmine Galenorn. Fury Awakened is the third book of the Fury Unbound series, and it is due out this May.

fury awakenedBy day, I run the Crossroads Cleaning Company, and I also read fortunes and cast hexes at Dream Wardens, a magical consulting shop. But by night, I’m oath-bound to Hecate, Goddess of the Crossroads. Hecate charged me from birth with the task of hunting down Abominations who come in off the World Tree and sending them back to Pandoriam.

Deep in the Wild Wood, we’ve hidden out from both the ruthless Devani and the zombie invasion going on in Seattle. In her anger, Gaia retaliates and devastates the city. The Order of the Black Mist has thrown off their secrecy and are openly vying for dominance with the Devani, as the ruthless warriors of light destroy all who question the control of the Corp Rats. As I learn more out in the wilds about the world of the Fae, and as our group of survivors strengthens its bonds, Hecate beckons me into the woods where I stumble on a secret that could turn the tide. But it will put us on the front lines as targets–and it will mean letting go of my fear of the fire and fully accepting my Theosian nature.

Ride the Storm from Karen Chance was originally due out April 2016, but was pushed back until August 1st, 2017. With the push-back came a re-tweaking of the original cover, as well.

ride the stormEver since getting appointed the chief seer of the supernatural world, Cassie Palmer has been playing catch up. Catch up on the training she missed being raised by a psychotic vampire instead of at the pythian court. Catch up on the dangerous world of supernatural politics. Catch up on the powerful, and sometimes seductive, forces trying to mold her to their will. It’s been a trial by fire that has left her burned.

But now she realizes all that was just the warm up.

Ancient forces that once terrorized the world want to return, and Cassie is the only one who can stop them.

The hardcover re-releases of Sherrilyn Kenyon‘s Dark-Hunter series continues, and the next one up is Unleash the Night. It is due out on November 28th.

unleash the nightAn orphan with no clan that will claim him, Wren Tigarian grew to adulthood under the close scrutiny and mistrust of those around him. A forbidden blend of two animals – snow leopard and white tiger – Wren has never listened to anyone when there was something he wanted. Now he wants Marguerite.

Marguerite D’Aubert Goudeau is the daughter of a prominent U.S. senator who hates the socialite life she’s forced to live. Like her mother before her, she has strong Cajun roots that her father doesn’t understand. Still, she has no choice but to try and conform to a world where she feels like an outsider. But the world of rich and powerful humans is never to meet the world of the Were-Hunters who exist side by side with them, unseen, unknown, undetected. To break this law is to call down a wrath of the highest order.

In order to have Marguerite, Wren must fight not just the humans who will never accept his animal nature, but the Were-Hunters who want him dead for endangering their world. It’s a race against time and magic without boundary that could cost Marguerite and Wren not just their lives, but their very souls…

Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright‘s next Pantera Security League book will be called Three to Get Ready.

These next covers are all from young adult releases, starting with the new one from Marie Lu. Warcross is the first book of the series of the same name, and it is due out on October 3rd.

warcrossFor the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. Needing to make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation.

Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire.

I can’t quite get a handle on this last one. Before the Devil Breaks You is the third book from Libba Bray‘s The Diviners series, and it is due out on October 3rd. The first couple of books had a real art deco feel, and this one doesn’t even look like it is part of the same series. Mid-series re-designs don’t always work out for the best.

before the devil breaks youAfter battling a sleeping sickness, The Diviners are up against a group of new and malevolent foes–ghosts! Out in Ward’s Island sits a mental hospital full of lost souls from people long forgotten. Ghosts who have unusual and dangerous ties to the Man in the Stovepipe Hat also known as the King of Crows.

With terrible accounts of murder and possession flooding in from all over New York City, the Diviners must band together and brave the ghosts haunting the asylums to bring down the King of Crows.

That wraps things up for today. There are a couple on my auto-buy list, how about yours? Anything you are eagerly waiting for?

Midnight Breed News

It seems like it has been a while since I have seen any Lara Adrian info floating around, but she recently sent out a newsletter with some details on upcoming Midnight Breed releases. The next novel will be called Midnight Unbound, and it will be out on March 14th. From what I understand, there will be no pre-orders through Amazon, so it won’t be listed until its actual release date of March 14th.

midnight-unboundAs a former Hunter bred to be a killing machine in the hell of Dragos’s lab, Scythe is a dangerous loner whose heart has been steeled by decades of torment and violence. He has no room in his world for love or desire–especially when it comes in the form of a vulnerable, yet courageous, Breedmate in need of protection. Scythe has loved–and lost–once before, and paid a hefty price for the weakness of his emotions. He’s not about to put himself in those chains again, no matter how deeply he hungers for lovely Chiara.

For Chiara Genova, a widow and mother with a young Breed son, the last thing she needs is to put her fate and that of her child in the hands of a lethal male like Scythe. But when she’s targeted by a hidden enemy, the obsidian-eyed assassin is her best hope for survival . . . even at the risk of her heart.

And the cover has also been upped for the following book, Claimed in Shadows. There isn’t a blurb or official release date for this one yet, other than it is to be out sometime this summer.

I always find it a bit hard to keep track of self-pubbed authors, as I have blathered on about endlessly in the past, because there often isn’t much time between a book announcement and its release date – meaning that often they are already out before I find them listed on Amazon. Other than subscribing to every newsletter from every author, have you found a way to know what is coming when? I do try to keep the new release pages updated, but finding out about books after the fact doesnt’ help much.

Cover Lover – The Trouble With Twelfth Grave

I just recently got finished with the last Darynda Jones book, but it looks like the cover and blurb have just come out for the next one, The Trouble With Twelfth Grave. It has a release date of October 31st, but I will warn you now…

If you have NOT read Eleventh Grave in Moonlight, there are major spoilers ahead!

Be Warned!

the-trouble-with-twelfth-graveEver since Reyes escaped from a hell dimension in which Charley accidently trapped him, the son of Satan has been brimstone-bent on destroying the world his heavenly Brother created. His volatile tendencies have put Charley in a bit of a pickle. But that’s not the only briny vegetable on her plate. While trying to domesticate the feral being that used to be her husband, she also has to deal with her everyday life of annoying all manner of beings—some corporeal, some not so much—as she struggles to right the wrongs of society. Only this time she’s not uncovering a murder. This time she’s covering one up.

Add to that her new occupation of keeping a startup PI venture—the indomitable mystery-solving team of Amber Kowalski and Quentin Rutherford—out of trouble and dealing with the Vatican’s inquiries into her beloved daughter, and Charley is on the brink of throwing in the towel and becoming a professional shopper. Or possibly a live mannequin. But when someone starts attacking humans who are sensitive to the supernatural world, Charley knows it’s time to let loose her razor sharp claws. Then again, her number one suspect is the dark entity she’s loved for centuries. So the question becomes, can she tame the unruly beast before it destroys everything she’s worked so hard to protect?
