Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

I recently got a bunch of new releases added to the new release pages, and that led to a few covers to post. Let’s start with a new one from Faith Hunter and her Jane Yellowrock series. Dark Queen will be released on May 1st.

dark queenJane Yellowrock is a shapeshifting skinwalker, and as the chief enforcer for the Master of the city of New Orleans, she’s the woman that rogue vampires fear most. But now a blood challenge has been issued to Leo by the ancient emperor of vampires, and Jane must stand and fight.

I thought this next one looked interesting. Amanda Carlson starts her futuristic Holly Danger series on September 18th with the release of Danger’s Halo.

danger's halo153 years in the future, Earth doesn’t look much like it used to.

Holly Danger’s current assignment, gleaned from a set of foggy instructions and a handful of coin stuffed into a slot, is to pick up a street kid who’s about to terminate himself off a cliff. And, as a rule, she doesn’t turn down currency. Her job as a salvager keeps her fed and clothed above the norm, which isn’t saying much.

The norm in this city is a scrape-by existence in a post-apocalyptic world, where the rain never stops, food is always scarce, and the elite have deserted the ranks in search of something better. Picking up this urchin won’t take much time, even if he’s located outside city limits. Her craft is fast, her weapons deadly, and her tech has been optimized as well as it can be for a climate clogged with iron dust.

But things take a big turn when she decides to become the boy’s guardian instead of hand him over. Outskirts have descended on the city, and their plans don’t include playing nice. When her crew is backed against a graphene wall, it’s a good thing her Gem is primed and ready to go. It’s almost as deadly as she is…

Angela Knight‘s next Mageverse release will be called Master of Magic, and it will be released on October 17th.

master of magicOlivia Flynn finds herself on the brink of death, unable to call upon her Sidhe magic, when a handsome stranger rescues her. But this male is no ordinary human, and Olivia wants nothing to do with him. The foreign magic boiling around him is far beyond the power of even the Sidhe.

Rhys Kincade has never been able to explain his magical abilities. Olivia is the first person he’s encountered who shares his gifts. But before he can ask her about them, they find themselves under attack by a pack of werewolf assassins. An even deadlier threat follows, and the pair is forced to rely on each other as they fight unknown enemies—and an ever-growing attraction between them.

Storm Gathering is the name of the next Scorpius Syndrome book from Rebecca Zanetti, and it will be released on September 19th.

storm gatheringEven before surviving the Scorpius bacterium, Greyson Storm was a lone wolf navigating minefields. As a kid, he learned to take a hit and find safety. As an adult, he joined the military and quickly learned how to protect and defend. When the world ended, he created a mercenary camp with military precision, no entanglements, and a promise to avenge a fallen friend. As part of that vow, he kidnapped Maureen Shadow, but now that he has let her go, her blue eyes and intriguing mind keep haunting him…

As possibly the only Biotechnology Engineer still living, Maureen Shadow might be humanity’s one hope to survive the aftermath of Scorpius, making her frighteningly valuable to both allies and enemies. Even after sexual tension explodes with Greyson, she’s not sure which camp he belongs to—friend or foe? Worse yet, survival may mean thwarting his prime mission, putting her in even more peril. When danger and seduction collide, there is no safety in this new world.

I actually had lost track of the Weird Girls series at some point, but it looks like it is still going strong. Cecy Robson will release Of Flame and Fate on September 26th.

of flame and fateTaran Wird, who commands the power to wield fire and lightning, is an oddity in the supernatural world. But neither Taran nor her unique sisters compare to the bizarre entity known as Destiny. And Taran is assigned to protect her.

Born of two witches, Destiny is revered among the supernatural elite for her acute ability to predict the future. Her biggest prophecy involves Taran’s sister, Celia, whom Destiny decreed will bear children strong enough to take on the evil that’s rising. Yet Destiny is not alone in her predictions, or individuality.

When Johnny Fate, a rock star among humans and a male version of Destiny is discovered, his powers and Destiny’s clash, triggering the start of Destiny’s demise and altering the fate of Celia’s unborn children.

Taran, her werewolf lover Gemini, and their allies must determine if it’s Fate who will decide what will become of Celia’s children, or if their lives and the world will perish with Destiny.

Jennifer Ashley‘s 11th Shifters Unbound book will be called Midnight Wolf, and it will be out on April 24th.

midnight wolfAngus Murray, bouncer for a New Orleans Shifter bar, is sent to round up an elusive, Collar-less Shifter woman, Tamsin Calloway, who is causing trouble for Shifter Bureau, and possesses information they want. If Angus refuses, he risks losing his cub. He finds Tamsin but she’s slippery and not about to be rounded up quietly.

In fact, quiet is nothing Tamsin will ever be. She leads Angus on a wild chase, but he’s determined to bring her in to save his son.

Can Tamsin convince Angus she’s worth helping before she’s locked away by Shifter Bureau, Collared, or perhaps killed?

And finally, the 3rd Vampire Blood book from Juliette Cross will be called The White Lily, and it will be released on October 23rd.

the white lily.jpgTo the north of the Varis empire, a mysterious faction spreads propaganda against the vampire monarchy. Friedrich Volya, the Duke of Winter Hill, seeks to discover who they are before his uncle finds them first. King Dominik will punish the traitors with brutal force.

Local schoolteacher, the raven-haired Brennalyn, is on her own mission—to spy on the duke and discover what she can for the Black Lily. She longs to help the commonwealth and bring justice to the many orphans left behind from the ravages of the blood madness, like the children she lovingly keeps in her care. What she doesn’t plan for is the heart-pounding attraction she feels for the duke, enemy to the Black Lily.

But when Brennalyn’s secret puts her life and the life of her children in danger, Friedrich steps in as her protector, she finds out there’s more to the duke than she thought.

Cover Lover – 5 New Titles

Cover Lover time again. I will start with the one I am most excited to get my hands on, which is Unmade from Sarah Rees Brennan. I was totally surprised by how much I enjoyed the first two books in the series, so I go into Unmade with high expectations. It will be released on September 23rd.

unmadeI am just starting to see some info about a new series from author Deborah Blake called Baba Yaga. Wickedly Dangerous is the first full book (there will be a prequel novella called Wickedly Magical on August 5th), and it will be released on September 2nd.

wickedly dangerousHonor’s Price from Alexis Morgan gave me an ’80’s flashback to the bodice-rippers of yore, which is sort of fun. It will be out on September 2nd.

honor's priceAngela Knight will put out an anthology featuring all new Mageverse material on September 2nd called Love Bites.

love bitesI found this next one over on Hypable, and it is the cover for the first book in the new Styclar YA series from Nikki Kelly. Lailah will be out on October 7th.

Spotlight on…Angela Knight

Everyone has those authors that they keep meaning to read, have on their TBR piles, but can just never seem to get to.  One of mine is Angela Knight.  I have enjoyed the little bit of hers that I have read, but just can’t get to the rest (and there is a lot to get to).  On a random check-up on her site and blog, I found out that this is a big year for Angela Knight.

It appears that Master of Darkness, the 9th Mageverse book, was actually the series finale.  I was surprised to find that the series had ended, since it seems there was very little fanfare about it.  The Mageverse series revolves around King Arthur’s Knights, who are actually vampires that fight on the side of good.  They live in a magical world parallel to our own called the Mageverse, but enter our world to help mankind.

Also finishing up is the Time Hunters series.  The final story, Enforcer, will be released in the Unbound anthology on March 5th.  The Time Hunters series was a spin-off of Angela’s book Jane’s Warlord, and focused on the time-traveling agents of the Temporal Enforcement Agency.

But even though both established series are wrapping up, there is also a new one to look forward to.  Starting next August, Angela will be releasing a new trilogy called The Familiars.  The first book doesn’t have an official title as yet, but some details about the new series have been released…

Branwyn Donovan, a war photographer, and her twin sister, Aislyn, a political blogger, work for their brother, Conal, who runs a media empire that’s fast overtaking Fox News in the ratings.

But they’re not your typical TV talking heads. All three are Changelings: the half-breed children of Siobhan Donovan, a beautiful Sidhe rebel who fled the Mageverse centuries ago after a failed attempt to assassinate a despotic fairy king.

Siobhan brought three Familiars with her — shape-shifting creatures of great age and magical ability. Feathered serpent Finvarra, cat creature Danu and hawk shifter Essus dispense magical assistance, sarcasm and frequent doses of guilt to Branwyn, Aislyn, and Conal.

As the trilogy begins, the Familiars discover three other Changelings living on Mortal Earth. Gabriel Taggart is a former Navy SEAL and half-Sidhe warrior, while police detective Kevin Morland has no idea he has magical blood. Meanwhile Changeling Julia Vance has been dodging fairy assassins for years. The Familiars decide all three would make perfect mates for Branwyn, Aislyn and Conal.

But even as the Familiars start their magical matchmaking, the Changelings clash with deadly enemies determined to kill them all.

What did you think of the ending of both the Mageverse and the Time Hunters series?  Are you looking forward to the new Familiars?  It does sound like a spin-off more than a stand alone, but I will be checking them out.

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

Wow, what a totally crap last few days to find anything new to post.  Seems like just a bad time of year for covers and release info, but hopefully that will turn around next month.  There are just four little covers to show this time…

This first one is from Alexandra Ivy and her re-released Immortal Rogues series.  My Lord Immortality is the third and final book, due out on December 31st.

Not sure I am feeling this one.  Tracy Deebs has released the cover for Doomed, a high-tech Pandora’s box tale, which is due out on January 8th.

Over on her blog, Angie Fox has released the cover for the second book in her Monster M*A*S*H series (which I had never heard of before).  Immortally Embraced will be released on February 26th.

And finally, this is the cover for Unbound.  It is the Angela Knight, Jennifer Ashley, Jean Johnson and Hanna Martine anthology due out on March 5th (there is also another anthology of the same name that came out in 2009 that featured Jeaniene Frost and Kim Harrison, but this is an all new release).

Random Updates…

A little bit of this…a little bit of that.

  • There will be a fourth book in the Dark Dynasties series from Kendra Leigh CastleImmortal Craving will be released on January 29th.
  • The Underworld Detection Agency Chronicles series from Hannah Jayne will also have a fourth book released.  Under the Gun is due out on February 5th.
  • March 26th is the release date for Jennifer Estep‘s Deadly Sting, part of her Elemental Assassin series.
  • The third book from Sandra Hill‘s Deadly Angels series will be called Kiss of Temptation, and it is also due out on March 26th.
  • Jenna Black‘s third Nikki Black book, Rogue Descendant, will be released on April 30th.
  • April 30th is also the release date for Delilah S. Dawson‘s second Blud novel, Wicked as She Wants.
  • Sinner’s Heart from Zoe Archer will be hitting the shelves on April 2nd.
  • The second book from Julie Kagawa‘s Blood of Eden series, The Eternity Cure, is due out next May.
  • August 2013 will see the start up of a new series from Angela Knight called Familiar.  No other details available as yet.
  • The oft-delayed Warriors of Poseidon novella, Alejandro’s Sorceress, is now completely MIA.  Seems like Alyssa Day decided to do a total re-write and start basically from scratch, so new release details are sketchy.
  • Also, there has been a change in the scheduled Beginnings of Magic by Ilona Andrews.  Instead of being compilation of the first two Kate Daniels books, it will now be a special edition re-print of Magic Bites.  The cover copy says “This special edition includes in-depth information about the world of Kate Daniels, with descriptions of its characters and factions. Explore Kate’s Atlanta like never before with answers to FAQ and a quiz to find your place there. And don’t miss the prequel story “A Questionable Client,” as well as scenes of events in Magic Bites from Curran’s point of view.”  It is now called Magic Bites: A Special Edition of the First Kate Daniels Novel.

Cover Lover – 3 New Titles

Another three for the list.  I have never actually added any of the Maggie Shayne books, for what reason I can’t really say, so Mark of the Witch is the first.  This one is due out on September 18th.

I stopped reading Jessica Andersen‘s Final Prophecy series a few books back, but I have to say that they have pretty covers.  This one, for the final book, is no exception.  Spellfire is due out on November 6th.  And while I am a straight chick, I think the gal on the cover is one of the prettiest cover models I have come across.

The final cover is from Angela Knight and her Mageverse series.  Master of Darkness is due out on August 7th.

Penguin e-Specials

This is me, sighing.  I am so behind the times.  Turns out that Penguin Publishing has something called e-Specials, and several popular paranormal series have entries in it.  I had no clue.  Not sure if everyone else is ahead of me (er, probably), but I decided to list a few that might appeal…

  • Katie MacAlister has a story called Unleashed, and it is part of her Dark Ones series.
  • Red Blooded is a Gods of Midnight e-novella from Deidre Knight.
  • Never actually heard much about these, but Sunny has a story called Mona Lisa Three, and it is part of her Monere series.
  • This one may also be available in a print version anthology, (if I am not completely nuts), but Magic Mourns from Ilona Andrews is also available in the e-special format.
  • From Virginia Kantra comes a Children of the Earth story, called Midsummer Night’s Magic.
  • Wild About You is a new series from Vicki Lewis Thompson, and it features a short called Werewolf in Greenwich Village.
  • I have been looking forward to the new Heather Killough-Walden Lost Angels series, and I believe Always, Angel is a prequel story.
  • Moon Dance is the name of the Mageverse novella from Angela Knight.
  • From the world of Deborah Cooke‘s Dragonfire series comes Harmonia’s Kiss.
  • Eternal Embers is set in the Dragon’s Heat world, written by Tessa Adams.

There were a couple that were unrelated to the Penguin published ones above…

  • Charley Davidson returns in the short For I Have Sinned, written by Darynda Jones.
  • Early Girl Gets the Blood Wolf is a story by Michele Bardsley, part of her Broken Heart series.
  • Alyssa Day will have a Warriors of Poseidon novella coming out in October called Alejandro’s Sorceress, but I can’t seem to find any info about it other than on her official site.
  • and the upcoming Eternal Wolf Clan trilogy from Stephanie Tyler will get a prequel in the form of Dire Warning.  Again, no links available as yet.

I am not quite sure how adding the e-books to the new release pages will go, since there are just so darn many of them, and the suckers are proving slippery to track down with any sort of finesse.  It is sort of hit and miss, actually, unless I just haven’t managed to perfect my technique as yet.  What I will be doing is adding the e-books to the reading lists for any of the series already featured here, like the ones listed above.  Might take a while to get them all added, but should be straight forward enough to find.  It is a start, anyways.

New Release Info…

  • Also next July will be the release of Night Forbidden, the 5th book in the Envy Chronicles from author Joss Ware.

More Random Updates…

Just a few more general updates.  Nothing earth shattering, just some odds and ends I stumbled across…

  • The as of now titled Jeaniene Frost book #9,the  first book in the Night Huntress spin-off series featuring Vlad, now has a release date of March 27th.  It will be the first of at least two books in the Night Prince series from Jeaniene Frost.

  • I know there are a lot of fans of the Meljean Brook Iron Seas series, and it looks like it will continue on through at least 2013.  Riveted, book three, will be out late 2012, and be followed by two more the following year.
  • Books 4, 5, and 6 of L.J. McDonald‘s Sylph series are looking for a publisher, and apparently a deal is close to being finalized.  No word on release dates yet for them, titled The Sylph Hunter, War of the Sylphs, and Door to the Sylphs.
  • Keri Arthur‘s upcoming Dark Angels series will now have at least three titles.  Darkness Devours is the tentative title of the third book, scheduled for early 2012.
  • Untouched is the second title in the re-release of the Amoveo series from Sara Humphreys.  Book one, Unleashed, is due out in October.
  • and Zoe Archer‘s Hellraisers books now have titles.  Devil’s Kiss, due out this December, will be followed by Demon’s Bride and Sinner’s Heart in 2012.

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

Only three to up this go round, at least.  The first one is from Megan Hart and her Order of Solace series.  Vice and Virtue is scheduled for release on September 6th.  I don’t get the whole paranormal-ly vibe from this one…more like pirates and wenches.

The second cover is from Angela Knight‘s Mageverse series.  Master of Shadows is her latest release, scheduled for August 2nd.

Just found this one.  Next up from Lynn Viehl‘s Kyndred series is Nightshine.  This one is to be released on November 1st.

And finally, this one is from Christine Cody (aka Chris Marie Green).  It is the first book of her new Bloodlands series, also called Bloodlands.  This one should be available on July 26th, and books two and three will follow in August and September.
