Cover Lover – 10 New Titles

It used to be pretty standard to do a cover lover post a week, but I find for the last while it is more like one a month or so. Not sure why, but it just feels like there isn’t as much info on new books coming out, either. At least for this batch, I found 10 covers to take a look at. Let’s start with the biggie of the group, which comes from Anne Bishop. Lake Silence is the 6th book set in The Others world, and it has a release date of March 6th.

lake silenceIn this thrilling and suspenseful fantasy, set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Others series, Vicki DeVine and her lodger, the shapeshifter Aggie Crowe, stumble onto a dead body . . . and find themselves enmeshed in danger and dark secrets.

Human laws do not apply in the territory controlled by the Others—vampires, shapeshifters, and paranormal beings even more deadly. And this is a fact that humans should never, ever forget . . .

After her divorce, Vicki DeVine took over a rustic resort near Lake Silence, in a human town that is not human controlled. Towns like Vicki’s have no distance from the Others, the dominant predators that rule most of the land and all of the water throughout the world. And when a place has no boundaries, you never really know what’s out there watching you.

Vicki was hoping to find a new career and a new life. But when her lodger, Aggie Crowe—one of the shapeshifting Others—discovers a dead body, Vicki finds trouble instead. The detectives want to pin the man’s death on her, despite the evidence that nothing human could have killed the victim. As Vicki and her friends search for answers, things get dangerous—and it’ll take everything they have to stay alive.

Next up is Perfect Gravity from Vivien Jackson. It is the second book of the Tether series, and it has a release date of November 7th.

perfect gravityKellen Hockley usually keeps quiet about his past, but once upon a time he loved a girl named Angela. He hasn’t seen her in a decade, but now he has to break the news to her that his team of rogue treasure hunters accidentally killed her husband. He’s had better days…

It’s not the news that’s delivered to Angela Neko that breaks her apart–it’s the rumbly, Texas drawl delivering it. She can’t believe she’s hearing Kellen’s voice again. But there’s no time for distractions. When Angela’s own life is threatened, yielding up all of her lies and secrets, she and Kellen must figure out how to reverse the geopolitical firestorm she lit to save the world, to save Kellen’s cat…and just maybe to save each other.

And Isabel Cooper has a new one due out also on November 7th. Highland Dragon Rebel is the second book of the Dawn of the Highland Warrior series.

highland dragon rebelMadoc of Avandos is on a journey to cement alliances. Targeted by an assassin, he needs a companion who can fight. When dragon shifter Moiread MacAlasdair returns from war, he knows she’s the best woman for the job. Duty and political strength compel Moiread to agree, but when they cross into the otherworld and Madoc’s life is threatened, Moiread jumps into protection mode-and will do whatever it takes to keep the man of her dreams alive.

This next one is from Kerrelyn Sparks. Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon is the third book of The Embraced series, and it will be released on March 27th.

eight simple rules for dating a dragonGwennore has a talent. An Elf able to track down the cause of an illness and heal it, she’s a valuable asset to her people. But when the kidnapping of a young girl thrusts Gwennore into the very heart of the realm of the dragons, she discovers not only a place of power and magic, but also a haunted land, plagued by an ancient curse that all but ensures extinction to the royal family. But when she meets the smoldering General Silas Dravenko, they strike a bargain—save the country from its cursed illness, and he will return the kidnapped girl. She’s been raised never to trust a dragon, but never did making a deal with the devil feel so good…

Silas has no way of curing the family he’s loyally served for years. But when a beautiful elf, long considered the enemy of the dragons, comes bursting into his world, Silas is awakened to passion and desire in a way he’s never felt before. But can he trust a sworn enemy to save the very existence he holds dear? And can their love survive those that threaten to tear them apart?

This is another one on my “one day” list. Eileen Wilks‘ 14th World of the Lupi book will be called Dragon Blood, and it will be out on December 5th.

dragon blood

January 30th is the release date for Baby I’m Howling For You, which is the first book of the Alphaville series from Christine Warren.

baby i'm howling for youRenny Landry is a wolf on the run. Pursued by a shapeshifting stalker and his slobbering pack of killer coyotes, she is forced to flee her job as a librarian to find sanctuary in the wooded hills of Alpha, Washington. A well-secluded safe space for troubled shifters, Alpha is Renny’s last hope. But the first person she meets there is a gorgeous alpha male with fiery eyes, fierce tattoos, and one ferocious appetite—for her…

Mick Fischer thought he left his past behind when he moved to Alpha. But fate has a way of biting him in the tail when a female wolf shows up on his property. Wounded, desperate—and disarmingly hot—Renny brings out the snarling, protective alpha beast in Mick like no other woman he’s known. Can these two haunted, hunted wolves manage to mate for life…even as the deadliest past demons howl at their heels?

This next cover is for Aliens Abroad, the 16th book of the Katherine “Kitty” Katt series from Gini Koch. It will be out on December 5th.

aliens abroad.jpgWith the human population growing and alien refugees pouring in from around the galaxy, Earth is becoming too overcrowded to sustain itself—and the solar system is filling up with the alien overflow. Advanced technology from the Alpha Centauri and Vatusan systems offers one possible solution. It’s time to explore new planets and see if any uninhabited ones can be claimed.

The President and First Lady, aka Jeff and Kitty Katt-Martini, aren’t supposed to be on this mission, but what looks like a snafu during a political photo op on the newly christened Distant Voyager spaceship turns out to be a call for help from a planet that might be Earth’s salvation…or its destruction.

The discovery of a world at the opposite end of the galaxy that seems like it could be a twin to Earth creates the usual issues for Kitty & Company. It also raises questions of Z’porrah and Ancient influence—not to mention cloning, the multiverse, and, scariest of all, whether or not the Black Hole Universe Police are starting to take too much of an interest in this particular universe.

For some reason, I thought this next one was young adult, but apparently I was mistaken. Bannerless, the first book of the Bannerless Saga from Carrie Vaughn, is an adult dystopian. It is due out this July 11th.

bannerlessDecades after economic and environmental collapse destroys much of civilization in the United States, the Coast Road region isn’t just surviving but thriving by some accounts, building something new on the ruins of what came before. A culture of population control has developed in which people, organized into households, must earn the children they bear by proving they can take care of them and are awarded symbolic banners to demonstrate this privilege. In the meantime, birth control is mandatory.

Enid of Haven is an Investigator, called on to mediate disputes and examine transgressions against the community. She’s young for the job and hasn’t yet handled a serious case. Now, though, a suspicious death requires her attention. The victim was an outcast, but might someone have taken dislike a step further and murdered him?

In a world defined by the disasters that happened a century before, the past is always present. But this investigation may reveal the cracks in Enid’s world and make her question what she really stands for.

These next two are both young adult, starting with Inferno from Julie Kagawa. It is the 5th book of the Talon series, and it will be released on April 24th.

inferno

And the last one for today is from Kristen Simmons. Pacifica is a stand-alone young adult science fiction release which is due out on March 6th.

pacificaMarin is cosario royalty, a pirate like her father and his father before him. Sailing the ocean to chase adventure is in her blood. But these days no one cares that the island town her people call home is named after her grandfather. They have a new leader, one who promises an end to their hunger – and one who thinks that girls are meant for the kitchen or the brothel. Marin knows she’s meant for more than that, and with the sudden influx of weapons on the island, and rumors of a pending deal with the enemy oil nation in her wake, she knows a big score to gain the council’s favor is the only way to save her people, and herself.

Ross lives a life of privilege. As the president’s son he wants for nothing, but he longs for a life of adventure. On a dare, he convinces his best friend Adam to sneak out to the Docks, the site of local race riots between the poor Shorlings and the upper class. But when Adam is arrested along with the other Shorlings, and not even the president is willing to find him, Ross finds himself taking matters into his own hands. He journeys back into the Docks, ready to make deals with anyone, even a beautiful pirate, if it means Adam’s safe return.

When Marin and Ross meet in dangerous Shoreling territory he sees a way to get his friend back and she sees her ticket home. The ransom a president’s son would command could feed her people for years and restore her family’s legacy. But somewhere in the middle of the ocean, Marin must decide if her heart can handle handing over the only person who has ever seen her as more than a pirate.

There you have it. Any standouts for you? I admit that I like Lake Silence – it echoes the first five, but still has its own vibe. It is my favorite of the batch, for sure.

This and That

Meh, there hasn’t been a ton going on lately, and it has been a while since I have done one of these little update posts. Still, there are a couple of things to mention.

  • Ilona Andrews recently did a blog post where they answered some frequently asked questions. It looks like there is a Roman-based trilogy in the works, which might be headed our way next year. Oh, and Hugh’s book will be called Iron and Magic. But I totally have to confess that I broke down and emailed Ilona and asked about Hidden Legacy having more books. They were kind enough to answer back and say that if sales are good, the series would probably continue on with Avon, but if that doesn’t work out they will probably self-pub. The happy dance I did was not pretty, but I don’t even care.
  • Kelley Armstrong‘s third Rockton/Casey Duncan book has a title and release date. This Fallen Prey will be out on February 6th, 2018.
  • Dark in Death will be the title of the 46th In Death book from J.D. Robb, and it will be released next February.
  • Anyone like me who waited forever for Gena Showalter to write Dallas’s story was probably pretty happy with the Blood Red Kiss anthology. Dark Swan will be re-released as a stand-alone e-book this October 2nd.
  • The third book from Gena Showalter‘s young adult trilogy, Everlife, will also be called Everlife, and it has a release date of February 27th.
  • Christine Feehan‘s first Torpedo Ink story will be called Judgment Road, and it will out at the end of next January.
  • Christine Warren is starting up a new series called Alphaville, and the first book is called Baby I’m Howling For You. Look for it on January 30th.
  • Larissa Ione is one of several authors doing a sort of mash-up of their series with Lexi Blake‘s Masters and Mercenaries series, and her contribution will be called Her Guardian Angel. It has a release date of April 10th. I am going to dig around a bit more and see what I can find on these stories, since I think the concept is pretty interesting.
  • Chloe Neill‘s Chicagoland Vampires spin-off series featuring Elisa and Connor will get its start next March. The first book will be called Wild Hunger.
  • Next March will also see the third book of Kerrelyn Sparks‘s The Embraced series released, and this one is called Eight Simple Rules For Dating a Dragon.
  • Oh, and C.L. Wilson‘s delayed second book of the Weathermages of Mystral series, The Sea King, has been rescheduled for this October 31st.

Well, that was more than I thought, but it has been a while. Anything you are looking forward to?

About humans, about rogue dragons, about herself and what she’s capable of doing and feeling.

Talon is poised to take over the world, and the abominations they have created will soon take to the skies, darkening the world with the promise of blood and death to those who refuse to yield.

And wrapping up this batch is the cover for The Valiant. It is the new one from Lesley Livingston, and it will be released on February 14th.

the valiantThe youngest daughter of a proud Celtic king, Fallon has always lived in the shadow of her older sister Sorcha’s legendary reputation as a warrior. Instead, Fallon is captured by a band of ruthless brigands who sell her to an exclusive training school for female gladiators—and its most influential patron is none other than Julius Caesar himself. There you have it for today. Are any of these on your reading radar?

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

December is shaping up to be a totally crap month for book releases, book news, the whole works, and the slump doesn’t show any signs of letting up any time soon. I did find a few new covers, but even among these there wasn’t much to get me excited. Let’s start with the young adult stuff for a change of pace. This first one is The Replaced by Kimberly Derting, and it is due out on April 28th.

the replacedPurchase at Amazon.com

This second young adult cover is Resonance from Erica O’Rourke, which is due out on July 21st. It is the second book in the Dissonance series.

Next up is Paula Weston‘s Burn, which is the 4th book in the Rephaim series. No official release date has been given, as yet.

burnNow, I don’t usually include the George R.R. Martin books on Wicked Scribes because from what I understand they don’t fall in any way under the classification of a romance, but since it is quiet I thought I might as well. The long delayed sixth book, The Winds of Winter, still doesn’t have a release date, but there is a cover.

the winds of winterNext up is The Lost Chalice from Anita Clenney, which is the second book in the Relic Seekers series. It will be released on February 10th.

Christine Warren‘s Any Witch Way She Can is novella that was previously released in the No Rest For the Witches anthology. You will be able to pick it up as a stand-alone e-story on March 3rd.

And finally, there is the cover for the long delayed Black Wolves from Kate Elliott. It’s release date has shifted around so many times that I couldn’t be sure I hadn’t already upped the cover, to be honest, but it looks like this is a debut. As of right now, this one is scheduled for release on October 6th.

the black wolvesSo, that is that for today. Nothing too exciting going on, but are any of these releases on your must-read list? I did check out the first book of Kimberly Derting’s The Taken series, so I will be getting The Replaced, but that is about it for this pile for me (I haven’t tried the Game of Thrones books, and probably won’t. Too…epic-y).

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

It has been a while since I have come across a biggie cover, one that I have been eagerly anticipating…and this batch doesn’t change that. But I guess they can’t all be the big one.

Let’s start with a newbie from Donna Grant. Night’s Blaze is from her Dark Kings series, and it is due out on March 31st.

Rebecca Zanetti continues her Sins Brothers series with the release of Total Surrender on March 31st.

That wraps things up for this batch. Anything catch your eye? There wasn’t a stand-out for me from this batch, but maybe better luck next time.

Cover Lover – 6 New Titles

Crap, I hate allergies. I do believe I am one small step above a zombie the last couple of days. I did manage to rouse myself long enough to find a couple of new covers floating around, though.

This first one is a stand-alone (I think?) from Elizabeth Fama called Plus One. It is due out on April 8th.

plus oneThis second one is young adult, too. Julie Kagawa‘s The Forever Song is the third and final book in her Blood of Eden series, and it will be released on April 15th.

the forever songOne of the most annoying things for an OCD book-lover is when there is a cover design change mid series. Stacey Kade‘s first Project Paper Doll book, The Rules, will be out in paperback (with a new design that lines up with the hardcover version of book 2) will be out on April 1st.

New Series Alerts…

How is the holiday season treating everyone so far? Hard to believe there is only a couple of days left in 2013 – where does the time go? On the other hand, it seems like forever since I did a new series post, for some strange reason.

Three of this week’s new series were part of a giveaway I did for December, so they have already been mentioned before, but I guess it doesn’t hurt to give them another shout out. Add in a NA (New Adult) title, and we have a few newbies to look forward to. I love Alexandra Ivy‘s Guardians of Eternity series, and I have high hopes for her new Sentinels books, too. Book one is called Born in Blood.

born in bloodSynopsis…

Sergeant Duncan O’Conner has seen it all before. A beautiful erotic dancer is found murdered in her home—no suspect, no motive. But there’s one clue: she’s missing her heart. It’s enough to make the hard-bitten Kansas City cop enlist the help of a necro—one of the dead-channeling freaks who live in the domed city of nearby Valhalla. It’s a long shot, but desperate crimes call for desperate measures.

Unlike the other “high-bloods” in Valhalla, Callie Brown considers her abilities a gift, not a curse. But when she reads the dancer’s final thoughts, she senses a powerful presence blocking her vision. This is no ordinary homicide. This is the work of a legendary necromancer who controls souls. A ravenous force that will put Callie’s skills to the test, O’Conner’s career at risk, and both their hearts on the line…literally.

This next one is from Lisa Shearin. The Grendel Affair is the first book of the SPI series.

the grendel affairSynopsis…

When I moved to New York to become a world famous journalist, I never imagined that snagging a job at a seedy tabloid would change my career path from trashy reporter to undercover agent. I’m Makenna Fraser, a Seer for SPI. I can see through any disguise, shield, or spell that a paranormal pest can come up with. I track down creatures and my partner, Ian Byrne, takes them out—usually saving my skin in the process.

Our cases are generally pretty routine, but a sickle-wielding serial killer has been prowling the city’s subway tunnels. And the murderer’s not human. The fiend in question, a descendant of Grendel—yes, that Grendel—shares his ancestor’s hatred of parties, revelry, and drunkards. And with New Year’s Eve in Times Square only two days away, we need to bag him quickly. Because if we don’t find him—and the organization behind him—by midnight, our secret’s out and everyone’s time is up.

Christine Warren‘s new series featuring Gargoyles starts up this week, too. Book one is Heart of Stone.

heart of stoneSynopsis…

Kees is a gargoyle, one of a group of supernatural guardians created to protect the world from the seven demons of the Dark. In an earlier age, he and his brother warriors defeated creatures and banished them. With their duty done, the guardians settled in to sleep until a new threat arose. So why on earth would he awaken to nothing more than a small female woman?

Gargoyles are the strike force of demons, but Kees cannot see the threat. It certainly isn’t coming from Ella, but something about her must have woken him from his sleep. She must be the key to uncovering his new mission. With her by his side, he begins to unravel of trail of clues that leads to only one conclusion: somehow, the portals he and his brothers had thought were sealed have begun to open.

This last one is a New Adult e-book series from Jus Accardo. Ruined is the title of the first book in The Eternal Balance series.

ruinedSynopsis…

Hell is looking for a way to break loose…

Jax lost the genetic lottery. Descended from Cain, the world’s first murderer, he’s plagued by a curse that demands violence in exchange for his happiness. He left everything behind, including the girl he loved, but thriving on the pain of others is lonely… And it’s killing him.

After a series of heartbreaking losses, Samantha put rubber to pavement and headed for college as fast as her clunker could carry her. But she can’t outrun her problems. When an attack at school drives her back home, she’s thrown into the path of a past—and a guy—she’s been trying to forget.

Sam strains Jax’s control over his darkness, but running isn’t an option this time. Someone—or, something—followed her home from school: a ruthless monster with a twisted plan centuries in the making. Forced together to survive, and fighting an attraction that could destroy them both, Jax and Sam must stop a killer bent on revenge.

So, which of these will be heading home with you? I have Born in Blood and Heart of Stone in the mail now, and looking forward to both of them. I haven’t read anything other than their main series from either author (The Guardians and The Others, respectively), so it will be interesting to see something totally different from them.

born in bloodBorn in Blood…

A ravenous force that will put Callie’s skills to the test, O’Conner’s career at risk, and both their hearts on the line…literally.

the grendel affairThe Grendel Affair…

Because if we don’t find him—and the organization behind him—by midnight, our secret’s out and everyone’s time is up.

heart of stoneHeart of Stone…

I will order all of the books for the winner at the same time, but since the books are released throughout the month of December, they will be shipped as they become available. Which one of these are you most looking forward to?
