Cover Lover – 8 New Titles

Time once again for a little cover lover post, starting with a new one from Diana Rowland. Legacy of the Demon is due out on October 4th.

legacy of the demonSidelined demon summoner Kara Gillian has her hands full when dimensional rifts allow demons to cause widespread panic and destruction on Earth. These aren’t the human-tolerant summonables she’s known before, but demons from the far reaches of the demon realm.

Add three demonic lords with conflicting ambitions to the mix, and Kara has the perfect recipe for global disaster.

This second one is from Christine Warren and her Gargoyles series. Hard to Handle has a release date of February 7th.

hard to handleThe only male among four sisters, Michael Drummond is no stranger to women’s strength and formidable will. His Dublin pub, the Skin & Bones, is his refuge, a reassuringly masculine retreat. Until a fierce woman warrior from another realm bursts into his life, bringing with her a battle between good and evil…and an explosive dose of desire.

The first and only of her kind, Ash is a lone female gargoyle, a creature destined to protect mankind from Demons determined to unleash their darkest forces. But her arrival on Earth is more confusing than she expected: her bone-deep instinct to do battle is matched only by her untamed attraction to stubborn, stalwart Drum. If they manage to keep the world safe, can they turn the passion crackling between them into a love that will withstand the test of time?

Chaos Unleashed, from Pippa DaCosta, will be released this December. It is the second book in the chaos Rises series.

And this last adult release comes from Abbie Roads. Hunt the Dawn is due out on December 6th.

He uses his skills to help the Ohio Department of Criminal Investigation, and is on the path of an active serial killer. Evanee would escape her job, the town, and her abuser, if she could. Until she meets Lathan and her nightmares embroil her in his investigations.

Together they are an indomitable force, but everyone around them is trying to tear them apart.

These next titles are all young adult titles. Dawn Study is the third book in the Soulfinders series from Maria V. Snyder, and it will be out on January 31st.

dawn studyDespite the odds, Yelena and Valek have forged an irrevocable bond and a family that transcends borders. Now, when their two homelands stand on the brink of war, they must fight with magic and cunning to thwart an Ixian plot to invade Sitia.

Yelena seeks to break the hold of the insidious Theobroma that destroys a person’s resistance to magical persuasion. But the Cartel is determined to keep influential citizens and Sitian diplomats in thrall and Yelena at bay. With every bounty hunter after her, Yelena is forced to make a dangerous deal.

With might and magic, Valek peels back the layers of betrayal surrounding the Commander. At its rotten core lies a powerful magician and his latest discovery. The fate of all rests upon two unlikely weapons. One may turn the tide. The other could spell the end of everything.

This next one is from Victoria Aveyard. King’s Cage is the third book of the Red Queen series, and it will be released on February 7th.

king's cage.jpgIn the third book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Red Queen series, Mare is forced to play a psychological cat-and-mouse game with an old and deadly enemy, where the stakes are not only the future of the Red Rebellion but the sanctity of her own mind.

Julie Kagawa‘s Legion is up next. It is part of the Talon series, and it will be out on May 4th.

legionDragon hatchling Ember Hill was never prepared to find love at all–dragons do not suffer human emotions–let alone the love of a human and a former dragonslayer, at that. With ex-soldier Garret dying at her feet after sacrificing his freedom and his life to expose the deepest of betrayals, Ember knows only that nothing she was taught by dragon organization Talon is true. About humans, about rogue dragons, about herself and what she’s capable of doing and feeling.

In the face of great loss, Ember vows to stand with rogue dragon Riley against the dragon-slaying Order of St. George and her own twin brother Dante–the heir apparent to all of Talon, and the boy who will soon unleash the greatest threat and terror dragonkind has ever known.

Talon is poised to take over the world, and the abominations they have created will soon take to the skies, darkening the world with the promise of blood and death to those who refuse to yield.

And wrapping up this batch is the cover for The Valiant. It is the new one from Lesley Livingston, and it will be released on February 14th.

the valiantThe youngest daughter of a proud Celtic king, Fallon has always lived in the shadow of her older sister Sorcha’s legendary reputation as a warrior. But when Fallon was a young child, the armies of Julius Caesar invaded the island of Britain and her beloved older sister was killed in battle.

On the eve of her seventeenth birthday, Fallon is excited to follow in her sister’s footsteps and earn her rightful place in her father’s royal war band. But she never gets the chance. Instead, Fallon is captured by a band of ruthless brigands who sell her to an exclusive training school for female gladiators—and its most influential patron is none other than Julius Caesar himself. In a cruel twist of fate, Fallon’s worst enemy, the man who destroyed her family, might be her only hope of survival.

Now, Fallon must overcome vicious rivalries, chilling threats and the dangerous attention of Caesar himself to survive the deadly fights that take place both in and out of the arena—and claim her place in history among the Valiant.

There you have it for today. Are any of these on your reading radar?

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

December is shaping up to be a totally crap month for book releases, book news, the whole works, and the slump doesn’t show any signs of letting up any time soon. I did find a few new covers, but even among these there wasn’t much to get me excited. Let’s start with the young adult stuff for a change of pace. This first one is The Replaced by Kimberly Derting, and it is due out on April 28th.

the replacedPurchase at Amazon.com

This second young adult cover is Resonance from Erica O’Rourke, which is due out on July 21st. It is the second book in the Dissonance series.

Next up is Paula Weston‘s Burn, which is the 4th book in the Rephaim series. No official release date has been given, as yet.

burnNow, I don’t usually include the George R.R. Martin books on Wicked Scribes because from what I understand they don’t fall in any way under the classification of a romance, but since it is quiet I thought I might as well. The long delayed sixth book, The Winds of Winter, still doesn’t have a release date, but there is a cover.

the winds of winterNext up is The Lost Chalice from Anita Clenney, which is the second book in the Relic Seekers series. It will be released on February 10th.

Christine Warren‘s Any Witch Way She Can is novella that was previously released in the No Rest For the Witches anthology. You will be able to pick it up as a stand-alone e-story on March 3rd.

And finally, there is the cover for the long delayed Black Wolves from Kate Elliott. It’s release date has shifted around so many times that I couldn’t be sure I hadn’t already upped the cover, to be honest, but it looks like this is a debut. As of right now, this one is scheduled for release on October 6th.

the black wolvesSo, that is that for today. Nothing too exciting going on, but are any of these releases on your must-read list? I did check out the first book of Kimberly Derting’s The Taken series, so I will be getting The Replaced, but that is about it for this pile for me (I haven’t tried the Game of Thrones books, and probably won’t. Too…epic-y).

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

It has been a while since I have come across a biggie cover, one that I have been eagerly anticipating…and this batch doesn’t change that. But I guess they can’t all be the big one.

Let’s start with a newbie from Donna Grant. Night’s Blaze is from her Dark Kings series, and it is due out on March 31st.

Rebecca Zanetti continues her Sins Brothers series with the release of Total Surrender on March 31st.

And the final one for today comes from Sarah Fine. Marked is the first book of the Servants of Fate series, and it will be released on January 1st.

That wraps things up for this batch. Anything catch your eye? There wasn’t a stand-out for me from this batch, but maybe better luck next time.

Cover Lover – 6 New Titles

Crap, I hate allergies. I do believe I am one small step above a zombie the last couple of days. I did manage to rouse myself long enough to find a couple of new covers floating around, though.

This first one is a stand-alone (I think?) from Elizabeth Fama called Plus One. It is due out on April 8th.

plus oneThis second one is young adult, too. Julie Kagawa‘s The Forever Song is the third and final book in her Blood of Eden series, and it will be released on April 15th.

the forever songOne of the most annoying things for an OCD book-lover is when there is a cover design change mid series. Stacey Kade‘s first Project Paper Doll book, The Rules, will be out in paperback (with a new design that lines up with the hardcover version of book 2) will be out on April 1st.

New Series Alerts…

How is the holiday season treating everyone so far? Hard to believe there is only a couple of days left in 2013 – where does the time go? On the other hand, it seems like forever since I did a new series post, for some strange reason.

Three of this week’s new series were part of a giveaway I did for December, so they have already been mentioned before, but I guess it doesn’t hurt to give them another shout out. Add in a NA (New Adult) title, and we have a few newbies to look forward to. I love Alexandra Ivy‘s Guardians of Eternity series, and I have high hopes for her new Sentinels books, too. Book one is called Born in Blood.

born in bloodSynopsis…

Sergeant Duncan O’Conner has seen it all before. A beautiful erotic dancer is found murdered in her home—no suspect, no motive. But there’s one clue: she’s missing her heart. It’s enough to make the hard-bitten Kansas City cop enlist the help of a necro—one of the dead-channeling freaks who live in the domed city of nearby Valhalla. It’s a long shot, but desperate crimes call for desperate measures.

Unlike the other “high-bloods” in Valhalla, Callie Brown considers her abilities a gift, not a curse. But when she reads the dancer’s final thoughts, she senses a powerful presence blocking her vision. This is no ordinary homicide. This is the work of a legendary necromancer who controls souls. A ravenous force that will put Callie’s skills to the test, O’Conner’s career at risk, and both their hearts on the line…literally.

This next one is from Lisa Shearin. The Grendel Affair is the first book of the SPI series.

the grendel affairSynopsis…

When I moved to New York to become a world famous journalist, I never imagined that snagging a job at a seedy tabloid would change my career path from trashy reporter to undercover agent. I’m Makenna Fraser, a Seer for SPI. I can see through any disguise, shield, or spell that a paranormal pest can come up with. I track down creatures and my partner, Ian Byrne, takes them out—usually saving my skin in the process.

Our cases are generally pretty routine, but a sickle-wielding serial killer has been prowling the city’s subway tunnels. And the murderer’s not human. The fiend in question, a descendant of Grendel—yes, that Grendel—shares his ancestor’s hatred of parties, revelry, and drunkards. And with New Year’s Eve in Times Square only two days away, we need to bag him quickly. Because if we don’t find him—and the organization behind him—by midnight, our secret’s out and everyone’s time is up.

Christine Warren‘s new series featuring Gargoyles starts up this week, too. Book one is Heart of Stone.

heart of stoneSynopsis…

Kees is a gargoyle, one of a group of supernatural guardians created to protect the world from the seven demons of the Dark. In an earlier age, he and his brother warriors defeated creatures and banished them. With their duty done, the guardians settled in to sleep until a new threat arose. So why on earth would he awaken to nothing more than a small female woman?

Gargoyles are the strike force of demons, but Kees cannot see the threat. It certainly isn’t coming from Ella, but something about her must have woken him from his sleep. She must be the key to uncovering his new mission. With her by his side, he begins to unravel of trail of clues that leads to only one conclusion: somehow, the portals he and his brothers had thought were sealed have begun to open.

This last one is a New Adult e-book series from Jus Accardo. Ruined is the title of the first book in The Eternal Balance series.

ruinedSynopsis…

Hell is looking for a way to break loose…

Jax lost the genetic lottery. Descended from Cain, the world’s first murderer, he’s plagued by a curse that demands violence in exchange for his happiness. He left everything behind, including the girl he loved, but thriving on the pain of others is lonely… And it’s killing him.

After a series of heartbreaking losses, Samantha put rubber to pavement and headed for college as fast as her clunker could carry her. But she can’t outrun her problems. When an attack at school drives her back home, she’s thrown into the path of a past—and a guy—she’s been trying to forget.

Sam strains Jax’s control over his darkness, but running isn’t an option this time. Someone—or, something—followed her home from school: a ruthless monster with a twisted plan centuries in the making. Forced together to survive, and fighting an attraction that could destroy them both, Jax and Sam must stop a killer bent on revenge.

So, which of these will be heading home with you? I have Born in Blood and Heart of Stone in the mail now, and looking forward to both of them. I haven’t read anything other than their main series from either author (The Guardians and The Others, respectively), so it will be interesting to see something totally different from them.

New Series Giveaway Winner…

Well, after a couple of days of completely ripping my house apart (strange how buying a couple of new things makes you want to replace everything), I am in the mood to shop. In that vein, I thought I would do a decent-sized giveaway in time for Christmas…which is very, very rapidly heading our way.

On to the details…this giveaway will be for ALL FOUR of the new PNR/UF series that are starting up in December. If you are interested in winning copies of Dragon Awakened by Jaime Rush, Born in Blood by Alexandra Ivy, Lisa Shearin‘s The Grendel Affair, and Christine Warren‘s first Gargoyle book, Heart of Stone, just enter your name in the comments section below. Burned By Love

Ruby changed Cyn’s life before she even knew who he was. Now she charges into his life, a beautiful woman full of fire and questions. And this final one is from Shannon K. Butcher‘s Sentinel Wars series.  Falling Blind will be released next April 2nd.

My favorite from this batch is Falling Blind.  I was hoping that this would be Grace and…damn, can’t remember his name.  Tor?  Something like that.  Anyways, I was hoping that this was their story, but Shannon is good about building up a story over the course of a couple of books.  Which one are you most looking forward to?
