Last Minute Additions

Hard to believe it has been so darn long since my last post, but honestly I haven’t found much going on to even mention. I did do a swing through Amazon to see what last minute releases I could find for March…and what I had missed in February. Turns out there were a few.

I am completely floored that I didn’t know about this one – at all. Like, at all. Deborah Blake‘s 3rd Broken Riders book, Dangerously Fierce, came out on February 26th. I hadn’t even seen so much as a hint of a title or cover or anything for this one, and it is already out.

dangerously fierceSynopsis…

The Riders: Three legendary brothers who kept the Baba Yagas safe. The Riders’ immortality was stripped away, along with their mission. But they are still much more than Human, and their story is far from over…

His brothers may have found new paths to follow, but Alexei Knight isn’t even looking. If he can’t have the life he was meant to lead, there is no second choice. So he is bent on drinking and brawling his way across the country until he winds up on Cape Cod in a bar called The Hook and Anchor, where he finds challenges he was never expecting, a feisty red-haired bartender, and maybe a lot more than that…

Bethany McKenna left behind an almost-completed law degree to return home and care for her cranky disabled father and run his bar for him. If that wasn’t enough, she also agreed to foster a very pregnant Great Dane. She has enough to deal with without adding in a giant bearded brawler, no matter how appealing he is. Yet somehow he ends up living in the guesthouse, taking care of her father, and sneaking his way into her heart…

Alexei and Bethany both think the lives they wanted have come to an end, but after dealing with a mysterious sea monster, pirates, dragons, and some adorable puppies, they might just discover that love is the greatest adventure of all…

Charlaine Harris also has a new one I had never heard about. Huh, sensing a theme here? Layla Steps Up is a novella that was released on February 15th.

layla steps upSynopsis…

Layla LaRue LeMay suspects there’s a lot she doesn’t know about her new life…well, death. It’s been a year since Layla became a vampire and she still hasn’t tapped into the raw power of her transformation. It’s a point of contention with some of the other, older vampire dancers at Blue Moon Entertainment. But there’s only one vampire’s opinion that matters…

Sean O’Rourke, Layla’s maker, protector, husband, and dance partner suddenly seems to be keeping secrets about her true nature…and their future as a couple. But when a sadistic ex-lover appears in Rhodes to reclaim possession of Sean, Layla must finally harness her supernatural gifts and prove her strength…or lose him forever.

And Dannika Dark also published a new one in February. The 4th book in her Crossbreed series came out on February 18th, and it was called Gaslight.

gaslightSynopsis…

Vampire trafficking is a sinister business, and nobody knows that better than Keystone. After Raven discovers hidden clues in a cold case, the group sets a trap in hopes of catching an elusive criminal. But when the plan backfires, Raven’s world is thrown into chaos, and Christian’s loyalty is put to the ultimate test.

Buried secrets come to light, and the only thing keeping Raven grounded is her insatiable thirst for vengeance. The stakes are high as they travel to a place where the landscapes are as treacherous as the immortals who live there. This time, there’s no room for mistakes.

I did manage to catch a few before their actual release date, which is a win. The long, long, looooong delayed 6th book from Allyson James‘ Stormwalker series, Dragon Bites, will be coming out on March 20th.

dragon bitesSynopsis…

Maya and I are just trying to have a girls’ weekend in Vegas. Kick back, take in some shows … Then Gabrielle decides to tag along.

Now there’s a dragon slayer after Mick, gladiatorial games from hell, and a Vegas hotel full of trapped demons. When Gabrielle and I charge in to assist, we don’t realize we’re awakening an ancient and terrible evil …

This evil is now after Gabrielle and her all-powerful magic, and it’s going to take me, Mick, Colby, and the rest of the dragons to keep my little sister safe.

Weird. Just after I was whining about nothing new coming from Thea Harrison‘s Elder Races series until December, I find a new novella. Well, technically it is a re-release of the story that she published in the Amid the Winter Snow anthology, but I will take it. The story is called The Chosen, and it will be available in stand-alone e-format on March 19th.

the chosenSynopsis…

A Wolf on the hunt…
Wulfgar Hahn, better known as the Wolf of Braugne, is a man on a mission. Determined to avenge the murder of his brother, he stops at Camaeline Abbey to meet with the Chosen of Camael, goddess of the Hearth. Unfortunately, it appears the Chosen wants nothing to do with him.

A leader in disguise…
Captivated by the Wolf of Braugne despite herself, Lily poses as an unassuming priestess in order to learn more about this ruthless man. But things are not as they seem, and after foiling an assassination attempt, Lily must decide if Wulf is the destroyer from her visions, or the hero of her dreams.

A choice to be made…
As war looms on the horizon, passion sparks between them, but an enduring relationship between a soldier on the march and a leader who reveres hearth and home is impossible—or is it? Among the swirling snows of the winter Masque, the gods and goddesses of the Elder Races dance, and love will find a way…

And I know there are some big Ann Aguirre fans out there, so this one might be right up your alley. The 3rd book of her Ars Numinia series, The Wolf Lord, was due out a while ago but then seemed to disappear from listings. Turns out it will be released on March 14th.

the wolf lordSynopsis…

Roguish. Reckless. Unreliable.
Raff Pineda has a certain reputation among the Animari. He’s the one to call if there’s a party starting, not the man to rely on when all hell breaks loose. Though he’s nominally the leader of the Pine Ridge pack, he defers to his second on the tough calls. Raff prefers to live fast and hard and keep his heart hidden, but a certain Eldritch princess won’t fall for his usual tricks, and their contract political marriage may be anything but convenient.

Ambitious. Elegant. Isolated.
Princess Thalia Talfayen may not have been raised by a witch in a tower, but she’s spent the last few decades locked up for a failed insurrection. Plotting and scheming comes naturally to her; personal connections do not. Since she’s come this far in her unstoppable quest to claim the silver throne, she won’t hesitate to do whatever it takes to unite her people, even if that means giving herself to the big bad wolf…

Lori Handeland is going way back to the beginning and re-releasing her first Nightcreature book, Blue Moon. The paperback re-issue came out on February 25th, but the digital copy will be available on March 31st. This is great, since I wanted to give the series a try but couldn’t find a Kindle copy to save my life.

blue moonSynopsis…

In Miniwa, Wisconsin the usually shy wolf population has changed. Suddenly they are on the attack and Jessie McQuade, local cop, has uncovered some strange happenings.

When she finds a wolf totem at the scene of an attack, she turns to Professor Will Cadotte, a member of the Ojibwe Tribe and an expert in Native American mythology, for help. It doesn’t hurt that Will is tall, dark and gorgeous, as well as funny, smart and as sarcastic as Jessie herself. An uncommon attraction sparks between them, uncomfortable for Jessie, a woman who knows what she is–smart, competent and better off alone. She has never been, nor will she ever be pretty or petite. The two work together to discover what is rotten in Miniwa. They are getting nowhere until Edward Mandenauer shows up.

Mandenauer is as old as he is dangerous, and he’s been hunting superwolves for a very long time. He and Jessie troll the forest with silver bullets while Will attempts to learn who is creating these wolves and why.

All of the evidence points to something supernatural, but Jessie, with her practical nature, is unconvinced. There’s also the issue of Will himself, whose appearances and disappearances are interchangeable with that of the huge, black wolf that seems to be the leader of the pack.

As things get stranger and the rare Blue Moon approaches, Jessie wonders: Whom can she trust when the moon is full?

Honorable mentions go to The Phoenix Project from Jacquelyn Frank (March 27th), Guardian of Darkness from Katie Reus (March 20th), and The Silver Stag from Yasmine Galenorn (March 5th). Looks like it is time for me to go rack up some more for the TBR pile.

Cover Lover – 5 New Titles

As I keep an eye out for the White Hot cover from Ilona Andrews (which should be released soon), I came across a few others to highlight. Looks like shades of red is the theme of the day, starting with the next one from Jacquelyn Frank. Bound in Sin is part of the Immortal Brothers series, and it is due out on September 29th.

bound by sinAfter being chained to a star to burn endlessly as punishment for stealing immortality from the gods, Jaykun has been unshackled to wage war alongside his brothers. But his freedom comes with a price: Each night Jaykun must still suffer—his body burning from the inside out. One early morning, recovering from his torment, he encounters a beautiful stranger on the beach. Naked from her midnight-black hair to her sandy toes, she approaches him with starry-eyed innocence and the unmistakably full body of a woman.

Soon Jaykun is swept up with the force of a comet, his desire for this woman hotter than any sun. His brothers fear he is blinded by her radiant beauty, and that she has been sent by their enemies to seduce and destroy him. Jileana is indeed from another world—one Jaykun cannot begin to imagine. But will their passion burn brightly enough to light the way through the darkness that threatens to consume all in its path?

The second book in the Black Dragon series from Katie MacAlister will be called Dragon Storm, and it is due out on November 24th.

dragon stormAccording to some (including himself), Constantine is one of the greatest heroes of dragonkin who ever lived. Too bad he’s now lonelier than ever and his biggest adventure involves a blow-up sheep-until he has an opportunity to save his kind once again. All Constantine has to do is break into a demon’s dungeon, steal an ancient artifact, and reverse a deadly curse. The plan certainly does not involve rescuing a woman . . .

Bee isn’t sure whether to be infuriated or relieved when Constantine pops up in her prison. The broody, brawny shifter lights her fire in a way no one ever has before, yet how far can she really trust him? Their chemistry may be off the charts, but when push comes to shove, Constantine will have to make a crucial choice: to save the dragons or the woman he’s grown to love with fierce intensity.

This and That…

Just some random info and new release dates from out and about…

  • Shelly Laurenston will be going back to her Hunting Season world, in a manner of speaking, with a new three-book series. The new Crows book will be set in Los Angeles, with new characters and a new storyline.
  • Robin D. Owens will release her 13th Celta’s Heartmates book, Heart Fire, on November 4th.
  • It looks like the Queen Betsy series from MaryJanice Davidson just keeps chugging along. Undead & Unwary will be out on October 7th.
  • Looking for more Sookie? Dead But Not Forgotten is a collection of stories set in Bon Temps, written by authors such as Seanan McGuire, Rachel Caine, and MaryJanice Davidson. It will be out on October 7th.
  • The second book from Samantha Shannon‘s The Bone Season book, The Mime Order, will be out on October 21st.
  • Alexandra Adornetto starts up her new Ghost House Saga on August 26th with the release of Ghost House.
  • I didn’t even know the first book was part of a series, but Erin Quinn‘s second Beyond book, The Three Fates of Ryan Love, will be out on September 30th.
  • Fans of Kresley Cole‘s Arcana Chronicles series will have a little extra wait for the third book, Dead of Winter. It has been pushed back to January 6th.
  • October 7th is the release date for the next Jane Yellowrock book from Faith Hunter, and it will be called Broken Soul.
  • It is a bit of a wait for Suzanne Johnson‘s next Sentinels of New Orleans book, Pirates Alley. It is due out next April.
  • Sherrilyn Kenyon‘s sixth Chronicles of Nick book will be called Defiant, and it won’t be out until April of next year.
  • Moon Shifter #5 from Katie Reus will be called Hunter Reborn, and it is due out next February.
  • The next Kitty Norville book from Carrie Vaughn, Low Midnight, will be out at the end of this year.
  • Fans of Jaye Wells‘ Prospero’s War series will have to wait until next March for the third book, Deadly Spells.
  • Christine Feehan continues her return to super-productivity. She has finished up the next couple Sisters of the Heart books already, and the long-awaited Ghostwalker book, Viper Game. And after that, there will be a new Leopard book due called Cat’s Lair.
  • Jennifer Estep‘s Black Widow will be released November 25th. Hard to believe the Elemental Assassin series is already up to book #12. The blurb is out already…

There’s nothing worse than a cruel, cunning enemy with time to kill—and my murder to plan.

With wicked Fire elemental Mab Monroe long gone, you’d think I could finally catch a break. But someone’s always trying to take me down, either as Gin Blanco or my assassin alter-ago. Now along comes the Spider’s new arch-nemesis, the mysteriously named M. M. Monroe, who is gleefully working overtime to trap me in a sticky web of deceit.

The thing is, I’m not the only target. I can see through the tangled threads enough to know that every bit of bad luck my friends have been having lately is no accident—and that each unfortunate “coincidence” is just one more arrow drawing ever closer to hitting the real bulls-eye. Though new to Ashland, this M. M. Monroe is no stranger to irony, trying to get me, an assassin, framed for murder. Yet, as my enemy’s master plan is slowly revealed, I have a sinking feeling that it will take more than my powerful Ice and Stone magic to stop my whole life from going up in flames.

  • Sometimes my best guesses just don’t work out. I had assumed that the hero from the Ilona Andrews‘ upcoming Burn for Me would be the fire Prime, Adam Pierce. The blurb proved me wrong, though…

#1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more
dangerous desire…

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile case. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run or surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

So, that is about that for this week. Any gossip or juicy news to share?

This and That…

This is sort of a mix of everything random post. Part update, part new release info, part cover lover.

  • it looks like Karen Marie Moning‘s next Fever book, Burned, is up for pre-order on Amazon. It will be released on January 14th. Let my countdown begin.
  • also, there is a bit of info coming about Alexandra Ivy‘s new Sentinels series. The prequel novella will be part of the upcoming Predatory anthology due out on May 7th, but we now know that the first full novel will be called Born in Blood. It will be released on December 31st.
  • there will be a third book in Jacquelyn Frank‘s World of Nightwalkers series, called Forsaken. This one has a January 7th,2014 release date.
  • November 2nd is the release date for the next Sentinels book from Jennifer L Armentrout, called Sentinel. And as a bonus, there is now a release date for the next Lux book, Origin. It looks like this one will be out on August 27th. But after that, things get a little tricky. From what I am picking up, there have been some changes in two other works of hers. Nephilim Rising (written under the name J. Lynn) has had a couple of pushbacks already, but it seems that now it will be released on September 17th – in e-format only. Amazon is showing a ridiculous print date of January 1st, 2018. Uh, no. Aaand, I might be totally wrong, but it would appear that the Lux spin-off book Obsession will now be released through the Entangled: Covet imprint – which means e-format only. Damn, that is a shame. I do have hopes for a print version later on, though.
  • word has gotten around about Christine Feehan‘s upcoming Dark series trilogy, but it looks like there will be a book in between. Right now, the schedule is looking like Dark Lycan this September, Dark Wolf in January, Air Bound (from the Sisters of the Heart series) in either April or May. Then the third Dark book, Dark Hunter, in the usual September spot, and a Ghostwalker book after that (December or January).
  • the third Marie Lu Legend book, Champion, will be released on November 5th.
  • Katie Reus‘s fourth Moon Shifter’s novel, Avenger’s Heat, will be released on February 4th.

Ugh, I am getting tired of this design, and I have been looking into other templates and designs. Right now, we are on WordPress.com, but you are limited as to design. WordPress.org allows custom themes, but I dread trying to make the switch over (especially since Wicked Scribes is actually made up of something like 18 different blogs).

And on the cover front, I found this one for Jessica Shirvington‘s next Violet Eden Chronicles book, Endless. It is due out on October 1st.

February’s E-novellas…and Used E-books?

lost to the graySo, after bugging everyone about how they keep track of the ever growing e-book releases, I think I have my technique down (down-ish, maybe). I am not even going to attempt to list all of the PNR, UF and YA digital books being released, but I do hope to get a handle on the novellas that are coming for the popular print series (and some of the better known authors). I ended up using a couple of different sources and searches (thanks for the ideas, everone). This is what I came up for in February…

February 5th

February 12th

  • Kerrelyn Sparks, Pamela Palmer, Amanda Arista, Kim FalconerVampires Gone Wild (Love at Stake #13.5, Vamp City #1.5)

February 18th

February 25th

February 26th

So, what did I miss? If you can think of any novellas that I skipped, feel free to list them here.

And, on a related note, I saw a little article over on Publisher’s Weekly that had me scratching my head. It looks like Amazon has plans…to sell used e-books. Huh?

Amazon’s business model has long been dependent on resellers of used books and other merchandise. But a U.S. patent that Amazon Technologies in Reno, Nev., received last week indicates that the mega-retailer has its sights on digital resale, including used e-books and audio downloads. According to the abstract, Amazon will be able to create a secondary market for used digital objects purchased from an original vendor by a user and stored in a user’s personalized data store.

Boston-based ReDigi opened the first marketplace for pre-owned digital music, which it launched in late 2011, redigi.com. Once a lawsuit that Capitol Records filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan over the way it handles music downloads is behind it, ReDigi plans to expand into e-books and other digital items. In a press release issued yesterday, ReDigi commented that “the Amazon patent is further proof that the secondary market is the future of the digital space and that there is no turning back.”

I must admit, this seems strange to me. I guess there is a market for everything, though (and Amazon pretty much covers it all).

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

Cue evil laughter…

This is me, cackling madly.  Anyone who saw the post directly below this one (pick of the week) has already been bored by my love of Jennifer L. Armentrout‘s Lux series (and the Sentinel series, but that is a story for another day).  So, you can imagine my joy when I found the cover for her third book in the series, Opal.  And it isn’t even that long of a wait for it, since it is due out on December 11th.

*Edit – Amber has pointed out that the author has stated that this is not the official cover, even though I did find it at Amazon.com.  I am going to keep it posted just for the pretty, but things could be a changin’.

Moving on, Amazon also upped the cover for Hot Blooded, the second book from Amanda Carlson‘s Jessica McClain series.  This one is due out on April 23rd.

I am continuing my love affair with white covers.  This time it is from Katie Reus and her Moon Shifters series.  Mating Instinct will be released on March 5th.

And this final one is from author Terry Spear and her Wolf Shifter series.  A Highland Werewolf Wedding will be released sometime next year.

  • The third book from Heather Killough-Walden‘s new lost Angels series, Death’s Angel, will be released on December 31st.

  • And finally, it looks like there is also going to be a re-release of Patricia Brigg‘s Alpha and Omega books in hardcover.  Cry Wolf is coming out on February 5th.

This and That…

Not a lot going on, but a few new things have come up this past few days…

  • Looks like there is a push back for the first book of Gena Showalter‘s upcoming Otherworld Assassin series.  Last Kiss Goodnight was scheduled for November 27th, but it is now looking like a February 1st release.
  • The next book of the Chicagoland Vampire series from Chloe Neill will be called House Rules.  Look for it next February.
  • A Love Untamed is the title of the upcoming seventh Feral Warriors book from Pamela Palmer.  It will be out on December 26th.
  • There will be a novella from the Moon Shifter’s series by Katie Reus coming this August, called Lover’s Instinct.
  • Cassie Alexander‘s second Nightshifted book, Moonshifted, will be released late November.  It will be followed by Deadshifted next year.
  • And finally, some info is available about the next couple of Christine Warren The Others books.  November 27’s Drive Me Wild is a re-write of Fur For All, which featured Tess and Rafael.  April 3013 will see the release of Hungry Like a Wolf, which is a re-write of Fur Play.  This one is Logan and Honor’s story.

Cover Lover – 11 New Titles

My recent updating led to a few new covers.  Blaze, the second book in the Phoenix Rising series from Joan Swan, will be released on September 25th.

The cover came out last week for the next Anna Strong book from Jeanne C. Stein, called Hunted.  This one should be out on August 28th.

Where There’s A Will, the next one from Karen Kelley, will be released on September 1st.

This next one is from author Tawny TaylorDarkest Desire is due out August 28th.

These last three are all from the same author.  Saranna DeWylde will be releasing three titles between this year and next year in her 10 Days series.  The first one is called How to Lose a Demon in 10 Days, and it should be out on August 28th.
