Cover Lover – 9 New Titles

I was all set to upload this post yesterday, but technical difficulties put me in the most foul mood imaginable so I got fed up and went to bed instead. So, it might be a day late, but here are nine covers for some upcoming releases.

Let’s start with Dark Legacy, the next Carpathian hardcover from Christine Feehan. This one has a release date of September 5th.

dark legacyIn a beautiful compound hidden away from the world, Emeline Sanchez tries to blunt the pain that has wracked her body ever since her terrifying ordeal in the labyrinth beneath the city—when she was forced to exchange blood with an evil master vampire.

Now, it’s his voice that haunts her…that calls to her in the dark…that never lets her rest. And while the children that she helped to free from his clutches struggle to heal, watched over by their Carpathian protectors, Emeline knows one thing: She must sacrifice herself to keep them all from harm…

Flame in the Dark is a biggie for me. I really liked the Soulwood series, and I was so happy to see that Faith Hunter recently announced that there will be even more books set in this world. This one has a release date of December 5th.

flame in the darkNell Ingram has always known she was different. Since she was a child, she’s been able to feel and channel ancient powers from deep within the earth. When she met Jane Yellowrock, her entire life changed, and she was recruited into PsyLED—the Homeland Security division that polices paranormals. But now her newly formed unit is about to take on its toughest case yet.

A powerful senator barely survives an assassination attempt that leaves many others dead—and the house he was visiting burns to the ground. Invisible to security cameras, the assassin literally disappears, and Nell’s team is called in. As they track a killer they know is more—or less—than human, they unravel a web of dark intrigue and malevolent motives that tests them to their limits and beyond.

MaryJanice Davidson‘s next release is Deja New, the second book from her Insighter series. It has a release date of November 7th.

deja newLeah Nazir lives in a world where the past can and will come back to bite you in the ass. No, not teething ghosts—reincarnation! As an Insighter, it’s Leah’s job to delve into the murky and (often) deadly former lives of her patients. And she knows a thing or two about danger after killing her mother’s murderer with the help of new beau, Archer Drake.

Isn’t he the best?

Now, it’s time to take their relationship to the next level, but not in any way Leah could have predicted. She and Archer head to Chicago to meet his parents—and try to figure out why Archer’s dad killed his brother decades ago. When someone tries to sabotage their investigation, Leah must decide if the Drake family past is a deal breaker…

Number four is from Yasmine Galenorn. Fury Awakened is the third book of the Fury Unbound series, and it is due out this May.

fury awakenedBy day, I run the Crossroads Cleaning Company, and I also read fortunes and cast hexes at Dream Wardens, a magical consulting shop. But by night, I’m oath-bound to Hecate, Goddess of the Crossroads. Hecate charged me from birth with the task of hunting down Abominations who come in off the World Tree and sending them back to Pandoriam.

Deep in the Wild Wood, we’ve hidden out from both the ruthless Devani and the zombie invasion going on in Seattle. In her anger, Gaia retaliates and devastates the city. The Order of the Black Mist has thrown off their secrecy and are openly vying for dominance with the Devani, as the ruthless warriors of light destroy all who question the control of the Corp Rats. As I learn more out in the wilds about the world of the Fae, and as our group of survivors strengthens its bonds, Hecate beckons me into the woods where I stumble on a secret that could turn the tide. But it will put us on the front lines as targets–and it will mean letting go of my fear of the fire and fully accepting my Theosian nature.

Ride the Storm from Karen Chance was originally due out April 2016, but was pushed back until August 1st, 2017. With the push-back came a re-tweaking of the original cover, as well.

ride the stormEver since getting appointed the chief seer of the supernatural world, Cassie Palmer has been playing catch up. Catch up on the training she missed being raised by a psychotic vampire instead of at the pythian court. Catch up on the dangerous world of supernatural politics. Catch up on the powerful, and sometimes seductive, forces trying to mold her to their will. It’s been a trial by fire that has left her burned.

But now she realizes all that was just the warm up.

Ancient forces that once terrorized the world want to return, and Cassie is the only one who can stop them.

The hardcover re-releases of Sherrilyn Kenyon‘s Dark-Hunter series continues, and the next one up is Unleash the Night. It is due out on November 28th.

unleash the nightAn orphan with no clan that will claim him, Wren Tigarian grew to adulthood under the close scrutiny and mistrust of those around him. A forbidden blend of two animals – snow leopard and white tiger – Wren has never listened to anyone when there was something he wanted. Now he wants Marguerite.

Marguerite D’Aubert Goudeau is the daughter of a prominent U.S. senator who hates the socialite life she’s forced to live. Like her mother before her, she has strong Cajun roots that her father doesn’t understand. Still, she has no choice but to try and conform to a world where she feels like an outsider. But the world of rich and powerful humans is never to meet the world of the Were-Hunters who exist side by side with them, unseen, unknown, undetected. To break this law is to call down a wrath of the highest order.

In order to have Marguerite, Wren must fight not just the humans who will never accept his animal nature, but the Were-Hunters who want him dead for endangering their world. It’s a race against time and magic without boundary that could cost Marguerite and Wren not just their lives, but their very souls…

Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright‘s next Pantera Security League book will be called Three to Get Ready.

three to get ready

These next covers are all from young adult releases, starting with the new one from Marie Lu. Warcross is the first book of the series of the same name, and it is due out on October 3rd.

warcrossFor the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. Needing to make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation.

Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire.

I can’t quite get a handle on this last one. Before the Devil Breaks You is the third book from Libba Bray‘s The Diviners series, and it is due out on October 3rd. The first couple of books had a real art deco feel, and this one doesn’t even look like it is part of the same series. Mid-series re-designs don’t always work out for the best.

before the devil breaks youAfter battling a sleeping sickness, The Diviners are up against a group of new and malevolent foes–ghosts! Out in Ward’s Island sits a mental hospital full of lost souls from people long forgotten. Ghosts who have unusual and dangerous ties to the Man in the Stovepipe Hat also known as the King of Crows.

With terrible accounts of murder and possession flooding in from all over New York City, the Diviners must band together and brave the ghosts haunting the asylums to bring down the King of Crows.

That wraps things up for today. There are a couple on my auto-buy list, how about yours? Anything you are eagerly waiting for?

New Series Alerts

It is time once again to check out a few new series getting their start this week, beginning with a new one from MaryJanice Davidson. Deja Who is the first book of the Insighter series.

deja whoSynopsis…

Leah Nazir is an Insighter. Reincarnation is her business. But while her clients’ pasts are a mess, Leah’s is nothing short of tragedy. She’s been murdered. A lot. If left to that bitch, destiny, it’ll happen again. Leah wants to know who’s been following her through time, and who’s been stalking her in the present…

P.I. Archer Drake has been hired by Leah’s mother to keep an eye on her. But the more time he spends watching, the more he finds himself infatuated. Before long, he even finds himself agreeing to help find the person who wants her dead. Over and over again.

Now going full-on “rewind,” Leah hopes it can stave off the inevitable. After all, she’s grown fond of this life—and even fonder of nerdy Archer. But changing her pattern means finding out who her killer is today. And as Leah fears, that could be anyone she has come to know and trust. Anyone.

And this second one is from Kathy Lyons. The Bear Who Loved Me is the first book of the Grizzlies Gone Wild series, and there are at least two more to come in the next few months.

the bear who loved meSynopsis…

Between singlehandedly running her bakery and raising her teenaged nephew, Becca Weitz thought she had a decent grip on “normal.” Then her nephew vanishes, and life as she’s known it changes forever. Local legends are true: bear shifters exist . . . and her nephew is part of their clan. As is Carl Carman, the sexy, larger-than-life man who has sworn to find her nephew-and the other young shifters who’ve gone missing.

As the leader of his clan, Carl is surrounded by enemies. He’s learned the hard way that keeping a firm leash on his inner beast is key to survival, though his feelings for Becca test his legendary control. Then danger stalks too close, and Carl realizes he must unleash the raging, primal force within to protect everything he holds dear. But can Becca trust his grizzly side with her life-and her heart?

I read an earlier Kathy Lyons series back in the day and quite enjoyed it, but believe it or not I have never tried anything from MaryJanice Davidson. With her Queen Betsy series wrapping up, this would be a good time to check out her writing style with this new book. Are you giving either of these a shot? What other new series are you most waiting for?

Cover Lover – 6 New Titles

I have done a few stand-alone cover lover posts for some major upcoming releases, but now it is time for the rest. This first one is a young adult release from Sharon Cameron called The Forgetting, and it will be released on September 13th.

the forgettingWhat isn’t written, isn’t remembered. Even your crimes.

Nadia lives in the city of Canaan, where life is safe and structured, hemmed in by white stone walls and no memory of what came before. But every twelve years the city descends into the bloody chaos of the Forgetting, a day of no remorse, when each person’s memories – of parents, children, love, life, and self – are lost. Unless they have been written.

In Canaan, your book is your truth and your identity, and Nadia knows exactly who hasn’t written the truth. Because Nadia is the only person in Canaan who has never forgotten.

But when Nadia begins to use her memories to solve the mysteries of Canaan, she discovers truths about herself and Gray, the handsome glassblower, that will change her world forever. As the anarchy of the Forgetting approaches, Nadia and Gray must stop an unseen enemy that threatens both their city and their own existence – before the people can forget the truth. And before Gray can forget her.

MaryJanice Davidson‘s very last Queen Betsy book is up next. Undead and Done has a release date of October 4th.

undead and doneIt had been a well-kept secret for centuries, but now the existence of vampires is all over the news, thanks to Betsy Taylor’s half sister (and frustrated former Antichrist), Laura. Life for the undead will never be the same, and it’s up to Betsy to do some damage control. But her interview on the local news doesn’t exactly put out the fire. It more or less pours kerosene on it.

With all the added attention on supernatural beings, the werewolves are more than a little agitated (never a good thing) and demand that Betsy gets her interview skills, and her family, in order. And while things go from bad to worse in the world, Hell continues to be hell—especially when Betsy’s new parole program gets about as complicated as you’d expect.

With a PR team launching a vampire-friendly campaign, the Devil at large and out to make trouble, and mermaids on hand to see who falls—and how hard—the end isn’t just near. It’s here. And if anyone knows how to go out with a bang, it’s the Queen of Hell.

Snared, which is the 16th book of the Elemental Assassin series from Jennifer Estep, will be released on January 31st.

snaredIrony 101—The Spider herself snared in someone else’s web…

Another week, another few clues trickling in about the Circle, the mysterious group that supposedly runs the city’s underworld. Gathering intel on my hidden enemies is a painstaking process, but a more immediate mystery has popped up on my radar: a missing girl.

My search for the girl begins on the mean streets of Ashland, but with all the killers and crooks in this city, I’m not holding out much hope that she’s still alive.

A series of clues leads me down an increasingly dark, dangerous path, and I realize that the missing girl is really just the first thread in this web of evil. As an assassin, I’m used to facing down the worst of the worst, but nothing prepares me for this new, terrifying enemy—one who strikes from the shadows and is determined to make me the next victim.

The second book of Sophie Jordan‘s Reign of Shadows series is called Rise of Fire, and it will be released on February 7th.

rise of fireLuna and Fowler have escaped the kingdom of Relhok, but they haven’t escaped the darkness. When a battle against the dark dwellers mortally injures Fowler, Luna is faced with a choice: put their fate in the hands of mysterious strangers or risk losing Fowler forever.

Desperate to keep the one bright part of her life alive, Luna accepts the help of soldiers from a nearby kingdom. Lagonia’s castle offers reprieve from the dangerous outside world—until the king discovers both Fowler’s and Luna’s true ties to Relhok and their influence over the throne.

Now pawns in each kingdom’s political game, Luna and Fowler are more determined than ever to escape and build the life they’ve been dreaming of. But their own pasts have a tight hold on their hearts and their destinies. Luna must embrace the darkness and fire within her before she loses not only Fowler, but the power she was destined to inherit.

Christine Feehan‘s next Leopard book will be called Leopard’s Fury, and it has a release date of November 8th.

leopard's furyWith her own bakery in San Antonio, Evangeline Tregre made a new life far from the brutal lair of shifters she was born into. Though she is all too aware of her leopard-shifter blood, she never felt the sensation of a wild animal stirring inside her. Not until Alonzo Massi walked into her bakery. The powerful shifter is as irresistible as he is terrifying, but his icy demeanor tells her to keep her distance.

Alonzo knows better than to let himself get involved with someone like Evangeline. She doesn’t deserve the type of danger that follows him, or the threat of his Amur leopard. But even with his lean muscle and iron will, Alonzo isn’t strong enough to stay away from the one woman who can make him feel at peace. And when their secret lives draw a mortal threat, Alonzo unleashes the feral passion he keeps pent up inside himself.

This next one is a two-for-one deal. Gena Showalter and Jeaniene Frost will be paired up for a re-release of two of their previous works. Gena’s The Nymph King and Jeaniene’s The Beautiful Ashes will be out in an e-format duology called Forbidden Craving, which will be out on April 1st.

9780373801916_1f3cfThe Nymph King

Gena Showalter

Females young and old, beautiful and plain crave Valerian’s touch. None can resist his blatant sensuality and potent allure—until he steals Shaye Holling from a Florida beach and holds her prisoner in his underwater kingdom. Now Valerian must fight for the privilege of claiming her as his own. Because there’s one thing Shaye doesn’t know…when a nymph discovers his true mate, she’s his for life.

Includes all new scenes!

The Beautiful Ashes

Jeaniene Frost

With her sister missing, Ivy discovers a startling truth—the disturbing, otherworldly hallucinations she’s always had are real, and her sister is trapped in a demon realm. The one person who can help her is the dangerously attractive rebel who’s bound by an ancient legacy to betray her. With destiny on one side and desire on the other, Adrian and Ivy must work together to save her sister. Yet he knows the truth about Ivy’s destiny, and sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side, Adrian on the other and nothing but ashes in between…

There you have it for this batch. Are you checking any of these out? The write up for The Forgetting sounds really good, but I am still anti-YA. I will be picking up Leopard’s Fury, but that is probably about it for this batch. Are you sad to say goodbye to Queen Betsy, or is it past time to wrap things up?

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

Only four covers for this post. I have been holding off waiting for some really good covers to be released in the new year, but no luck. That usually means that they will come the day after I finally do a post, but that is pretty much standard. Let’s start off with the new one from MaryJanice Davidson. Deja Who is the first book of her new Insighter series, and it has a release date of September 2nd.

deja who

You couldn’t arrest someone for killing in a past life. You couldn’t bring a civil suit against them, either. They could only be legally penalized for what they did this time around—and what a dark circus the legal system had been before that legislation passed! (It was still a dark circus, but perhaps not as dark.)  But you could spot them, and watch them. You could set traps for them.

Leah Nazir is an Insighter. Reincarnation is her business. But while her clients’ pasts are a mess, Leah’s is nothing short of tragedy. She’s been murdered. A lot. This next one is from Yasmine Galenorn. Shadow Silence is part of her Whisper Hollow series, and it will be out this October.

Whisper Hollow, where spirits walk among the living, and the lake never gives up her dead…

Fifteen years ago, I ran away from Whisper Hollow, Washington, a small town on Crescent Lake in the Olympic Peninsula. But truth is, if you were born here, you can never really leave. I’m Kerris Fellwater, and I’m a spirit shaman. It’s my responsibility to drive the dead back to their graves, because around Whisper Hollow, people-and secrets-don’t always stay buried.

My best friend Peggin finds herself under a curse after she is almost taken by the Lady of the Lake. As Bryan-my guardian and mate-and I work to break the hex, we stumble over a dark and violent mystery from the past. One the Hounds of Cú Chulainn will do anything to stop us from bringing to light.

Divine Descendant, the next book of the Nikki Glass series from Jenna Black. It will be released in e-format on May 16th.

And the final one for today is from Molly Harper. Big Vamp on Campus will be out on June 26th.

A Beginning and an End

Keri Arthur is one of many established authors who are starting up new series in the coming months. It seems to be somewhat a time of transitioning between ending popular existing series and setting up new ones, and Keri Arthur‘s next venture will be called The Outcasts. The first book is City of Light, and it will be released on January 6th.

city of lightAnd I was really surprised in my last batch of updating to find out that MaryJanice Davidson is wrapping up her Queen Betsy/Undead series in 2016. The as-yet-untitled book is the 15th of the series.

What is your take on the beginning of a new one and the end of an old one? Any thoughts on the end of Queen Betsy? I haven’t read them myself, but in what I have heard about them people usually say they should’ve wrapped up quite a while back.

Updating Part 2 – Cover Lover

Yesterday was blurb day, toady is cover reveal day (that means I will stumble on a bunch more as soon as this is posted, but what can you do?). Let’s start with the next Queen Betsy book from MaryJanice Davidson, Undead and Unforgiven, which is due out on October 6th.

Cover Lover – 6 New Titles

After yesterday’s seven covers, I figured that was it for a couple of days. Of course, I found 6 more today just to prove me wrong…and this batch is a bit more interesting than the last one. First up is the collection of stories from Patricia Briggs‘ Mercyverse, Shifting Shadows, which will be released on September 2nd.

Random Stuff and Cover Lover

Well, sometimes timing just works out perfectly. Last night I finished up the quick little character guide for the first book of The Innkeeper Chronicles, and today the first chapter of book two was upped on Ilona Andrews‘ site. This one is called Sweep in Peace, and as before, there will be a chapter upped roughly every week with hopefully another print version to follow at the end.

Also, for those who are impatiently awaiting the next Guild Hunter book Archangel’s Shadows, Nalini Singh upped a small excerpt featuring Janvier and Ashwini. Since this is of course one of my most anticipated releases for this year, I was pretty happy to see a little something to tide me over.

On the cover side of things, there are five new ones for today. This first one is the cover for the upcoming Sookie Stackhouse anthology featuring short stories from authors like Seanan McGuire, Rachel Caine and MaryJanice Davidson. Dead But Not Forgotten is due out on November 25th.

dead but not forgottenCover #2 comes from Lexi Blake‘s Thieves series. Steal the Night is due out on June 3rd in e-format, with a print version to follow at a later date.

steal the nightThere are three young adult titles, too. Collide is the long delayed third book from Melissa West‘s The Taking series, and it is now set for a December 2nd release.

collideI must admit, I am digging this next cover. The Girl Who Never Was, from author Skylar Dorset, will be out on June 1st.

the girl who never wasAnd finally, Josephine Angelini starts up her new Worldwalker Trilogy on September 2nd with the release of the first book, Trial by Fire.

This and That…

Just some random info and new release dates from out and about…

  • Shelly Laurenston will be going back to her Hunting Season world, in a manner of speaking, with a new three-book series. The new Crows book will be set in Los Angeles, with new characters and a new storyline.
  • Robin D. Owens will release her 13th Celta’s Heartmates book, Heart Fire, on November 4th.
  • It looks like the Queen Betsy series from MaryJanice Davidson just keeps chugging along. Undead & Unwary will be out on October 7th.
  • Looking for more Sookie? Dead But Not Forgotten is a collection of stories set in Bon Temps, written by authors such as Seanan McGuire, Rachel Caine, and MaryJanice Davidson. It will be out on October 7th.
  • The second book from Samantha Shannon‘s The Bone Season book, The Mime Order, will be out on October 21st.
  • Alexandra Adornetto starts up her new Ghost House Saga on August 26th with the release of Ghost House.
  • I didn’t even know the first book was part of a series, but Erin Quinn‘s second Beyond book, The Three Fates of Ryan Love, will be out on September 30th.
  • Fans of Kresley Cole‘s Arcana Chronicles series will have a little extra wait for the third book, Dead of Winter. It has been pushed back to January 6th.
  • October 7th is the release date for the next Jane Yellowrock book from Faith Hunter, and it will be called Broken Soul.
  • It is a bit of a wait for Suzanne Johnson‘s next Sentinels of New Orleans book, Pirates Alley. It is due out next April.
  • Sherrilyn Kenyon‘s sixth Chronicles of Nick book will be called Defiant, and it won’t be out until April of next year.
  • Moon Shifter #5 from Katie Reus will be called Hunter Reborn, and it is due out next February.
  • The next Kitty Norville book from Carrie Vaughn, Low Midnight, will be out at the end of this year.
  • Fans of Jaye Wells‘ Prospero’s War series will have to wait until next March for the third book, Deadly Spells.
  • Christine Feehan continues her return to super-productivity. She has finished up the next couple Sisters of the Heart books already, and the long-awaited Ghostwalker book, Viper Game. And after that, there will be a new Leopard book due called Cat’s Lair.
  • Jennifer Estep‘s Black Widow will be released November 25th. Hard to believe the Elemental Assassin series is already up to book #12. The blurb is out already…

There’s nothing worse than a cruel, cunning enemy with time to kill—and my murder to plan.

With wicked Fire elemental Mab Monroe long gone, you’d think I could finally catch a break. But someone’s always trying to take me down, either as Gin Blanco or my assassin alter-ago. Now along comes the Spider’s new arch-nemesis, the mysteriously named M. M. Monroe, who is gleefully working overtime to trap me in a sticky web of deceit.

The thing is, I’m not the only target. I can see through the tangled threads enough to know that every bit of bad luck my friends have been having lately is no accident—and that each unfortunate “coincidence” is just one more arrow drawing ever closer to hitting the real bulls-eye. Though new to Ashland, this M. M. Monroe is no stranger to irony, trying to get me, an assassin, framed for murder. Yet, as my enemy’s master plan is slowly revealed, I have a sinking feeling that it will take more than my powerful Ice and Stone magic to stop my whole life from going up in flames.

  • Sometimes my best guesses just don’t work out. I had assumed that the hero from the Ilona Andrews‘ upcoming Burn for Me would be the fire Prime, Adam Pierce. The blurb proved me wrong, though…

#1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more
dangerous desire…

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile case. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run or surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

So, that is about that for this week. Any gossip or juicy news to share?

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

Seven noobies for this post (well, a couple have been around for a few days, but I waited until I had more to post).  Most of these came from Goodreads, and a couple from All Things Urban Fantasy – many thanks.  This first one is from Seanan McGuire and her InCryptid series.  Midnight Blue-Light Special is due out on March 5th.

This next one comes from Amanda Bonilla‘s Shaede Assassin series.  Crave the Darkness also has a release date of March 5th.

I have never gotten into the Queen Betsy series, but the covers are fun, at least.  MaryJanice Davidson‘s Undead and Unsure will be out the middle of next year.

Tessa Adams starts up a new series, Lone Star Witch, with the release of Soulbound on February 5th.

This one is a bit…disappointing, I guess.  It has potential, but looks like someone just sort of gave up and never finished it.  Betrayed by Shadows is showing as an e-book only release for Nancy Gideon, and it will be released on December 18th.

From the young adult isle, there are a couple of new ones, too.  Jessica Therrien‘s Uprising, part of her Children of the Gods series, will be released next spring.

And this final one is from Cynthia Hand.  It is the Australian cover for Boundless, part of the Unearthly series, and it is due out this coming January.  I usually wouldn’t include this one, but it was so pretty I just had to.  It is actually my favorite cover I have seen in a while, and I am having total cover envy for this one.
