This and That…Covers, Release Dates, and Other Stuff

Yep, I have been snooping around and come across a little new info…

  • One thing I do NOT like is when a series I like shows an upcoming release with “End” in the title. Nope. Alexandra Ivy‘s next Guardians of Eternity book will be called When Darkness Ends, and it has a release date of May 26th.
  • The Chicagoland Vampires novella from Chloe Neill featuring Merit and Ethan now has a title. Lucky Break is due out on February 3rd.
  • Rumor has it that there will indeed be another Charley Davidson book from Darynda Jones, and it will be called Eighth Grave After Dark, and it is tentatively scheduled for next May.
  • I have to admit, I had my doubts it would ever come our way, but it looks like The Return from Jennifer L. Armentrout is a go. I thought (wrongly) that it was from Entangled Publishing, which meant I had pretty much decided that it would never see the light of day. I love being wrong sometimes. This Seth-centric spin-off from the Covenant series will be out on February 17th.
  • I had also (wrongly) gotten it into my head that Shannon K. Butcher‘s Sentinel Wars series must’ve ended, mostly because there hasn’t been any word on new titles for a while. Wrong again, since Binding Ties is due out on March 3rd – and there is both a cover and blurb available…

binding tiesThey are the Sentinels. Three races descended from ancient guardians of mankind, each possessing unique abilities in their battle to protect humanity against their eternal foes: the Synestryn. Now a warrior must protect his onetime enemy—without succumbing to his darkest desires.

Lyka Phelan is a Slayer, sent to live among her enemy to guarantee lasting peace with the Theronai. Yet she has a secret—and it could make her a slave to their power. But when a pack of Synestryn destroys her home and captures her packmates, Lyka realizes her freedom is a small price to pay for the safety of her people. So she strikes a bargain with the leader of the Theronai—one that reveals her true identity and binds her to him forever.

Joseph thought he knew better than to tangle with the beautiful, hot-blooded Lyka. One misstep could send their races straight back to war. But now he has no choice other than to help her. Forced to protect her with his life, Joseph finds himself increasingly drawn to Lyka. As they risk everything in their fight against the demons, he realizes he must convince her to surrender to him completely—otherwise she will never truly be his.

  • Sherrilyn Kenyon has co-authored the previous four Belador books, but it looks like number five will be a solo effort for Dianna Love. Demon Storm is due out this October, but here’s a quick peek at the cover…

demon storm

  • Devon Monk is starting up a new series soon called House Immortal, but word is already coming about the second book. Infinity Bell will be released on March 3rd, and yep, it’s cover time…

infinity bellSo, that about wraps things up for now. Are any of these tidbits something you are looking forward to?

From the Author Pages…

I just got back from seeing City of Bones. Now, I must admit that I started to hunt for reviews a few days back, and things seemed up in the air. Some thought it was great, some loathed it on principle alone. Rotten Tomatoes has is as a 13% as of me writing this (and Beautiful Creatures had a 46%!). Turns out that once again, I didn’t agree with the critics. Was it a masterpiece that copied the book verbatim? No. Can’t happen. But I thought it was a decent movie, it made me smile more than once, and I can’t wait for the sequel.

I updated the author pages yesterday, and there are a couple of little things that I found that caught my attention.

  • for those of you who are fans of the Bayou Heat e-series Alexandra Ivy co-writes with Laura Wright, there will be at least three more full books and a Christmas story. It looks like the series will continue pretty regularly through 2014.
  • Updated to say that Bloodlines #5 from Richelle Mead now has a title – Silver Shadows. It is due out early next summer.
  • Chloe Neill will have a Luc and Lindsey novella in the upcoming Kicking It anthology (due out on December 3rd), and an e-novella that features Jeff and Fallon called Howling for You which will be available on January 7th. I know the series was contracted for 10 books, and it looks like the 10th will be released next August. I am not sure at this point if Blood Games will indeed be the final book, or perhaps just start a new arc?
  • I am warily circling Gena Showalter after her last few books, but I have to admit that I was more than a little happy to find out that Torin’s story is up next. The Darkest Touch will be released sometime in 2014. Now if only we could find out when the next Alien Huntress book will be out (featuring Dallas, of course).
  • Booo! Karen Marie Moning‘s next Fever World book, Burned, has been pushed back yet again to a July 22nd release. There has been talk from the author herself that she might change from the two more Dani and two more Mac books into just two more books total, so here’s hoping that this isn’t an indicator of that.
  • And it looks like Kresley Cole has a super secret project in the works. She has said that she will be making an announcement soon, but when I did a quick search over on Amazon I saw that she has listings for three as-yet untitled e-books. Whatever they are, they are going to be released on December 9th, December 16th, and January 6th respectively. Hmm, makes me wonder.
  • Oh, and the summary for Crave the Night from Lara Adrian has been upped. This one is Nathan’s story, and it will be out on February 25th. You can find the synopsis HERE.
  • Likewise, the summary for the next Sentinel Wars book, Willing Sacrifice, has been added to the Shannon K. Butcher page. I had hoped it was Torr and Grace, and I was right. You can find the summary HERE.
  • Well, there used to be an author section for C.L. Wilson, so I guess that counts. It turns out that she has finished the long, long awaited The Winter King, and it is now in the hands of her editor. It has a scheduled publication date of…August. 2014. Or a year from now. Yep.

So, did you catch City of Bones? What did you think? Have you heard anything about Kresley Cole’s upcoming project? And what do you think the odds are of the Winter King ever actually getting released? And at this point, do you really care?

Cover Lover – 9 New Titles

So, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of doing a recommendation section. It might take a while to work out, but it could be fun. I am going to get started on it maybe tonight, and then I will open it up for your favorites. I am thinking maybe a cover pic, a brief write up about what it is that makes the book great, and then a list of the rest of the books in the series. Or something like that.

On the cover front, there are a few new ones starting to make their way around. This first one is a Dark-Hunter short story collection from Sherrilyn Kenyon called Dark Bites. It is due out on January 21st.

dark bitesI had thought that the Shadowfae Chronicles series from Erica Hayes was complete, but it looks like there will be at least one more story. Demon Chained will be released in e-format on September 18th.

demon chainedAnd another series that seems to be getting a second life is the Gregori Legacy from Linda Poitevin. Sins of the Lost is due out on October 15th, also in e-format.

sins of the lostLabyrinth of Stars from Marjorie M. Liu was due out last year, but this latest Hunter Kiss book is now due out on February 25th.

labyrinth of starsJacquelyn Frank also writes under the name Jax, and it is under that name that she will re-release Hunter (previously an e-book release) on February 4th.

hunterI was starting wonder on the state of Shannon K. Butcher‘s Sentinel Wars series, since there hasn’t been much news for the last few months. But it looks like the next title will be Willing Sacrifice, and it will be released on March 4th. By the title, it really should be Torh and Grace. Hopefully.

willing sacrifice

There is another Argeneau Rogue Hunter book by Lynsay Sands coming out on February 28th, and it is called Vampire Most Wanted.

vampire most wantedAlmost there. I love the pinky-purple colors on Cole’s Redemption, which is the next book in J.D. Tyler‘s Alpha Pack series. It is due out on March 4th.

cole's redemptionAnd this final one is the cover for the mass market paperback release of the special edition of J.R. Ward‘s first Black Dagger Brotherhood book, Dark Lover. It is due out on February 25th.

dark loverWhat is your take on these? I like the Dark Lover cover – it would’ve been great if this had been the hardcover design. I am most excited for Willing Sacrifice, and even though I am a couple of books behind in this series it is one that I always enjoy.

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

After a dry spell of a few weeks, pretty much every couple of days there are some decent new covers being released. For this post, I stumbled upon four. This first one is from the December 3rd anthology Kicking It, which features Faith Hunter, Kalayna Price and Shannon K. Butcher, among others.

kicking it

This second one is from the Edie Spence series from Cassie Alexander. Deadshifted is book number 4, and it will be released on December 31st.

Coming in at number three is Terminated, the next book in Rachel Caine‘s Revivalist series, which is due out on August 6th.

And finally we have the cover for One Lucky Vampire from Lynsay Sands. It is the next Argeneau Rogue Hunter book, due out on September 24th.

Pick of the Week…

You know those series that you consistently enjoy, but always seem to stay under the radar? They are good, solid books that you always enjoy but you are always surprised by how much you like them? One of those for me is Shannon K. Butcher‘s Sentinel Wars series, and my pick for this week is book number 7, Falling Blind.

falling blindSynopsis…

A beautiful, independent Theronai, Rory Rainey knows that her attempts to be a warrior are futile—unless she can stop the demonic visions that torment her. Determined to be free, Rory sets out to find the mysterious guardian who can cure her, before she loses her sight—or her life. But Rory’s journey brings its own dangers when she is attacked by a pack of Synestryn sent by the demon lord Raygh.

Cornered and desperate, Rory narrowly escapes with the help of a sword-wielding stranger. Cain knows that Rory needs his protection to survive, just as he knows that her power is compatible with his own. And when Rory binds herself to Cain, the warrior knows he will do anything to keep her safe from the threat of the demon lord that pursues her….

The Sentinel Wars reading list is HERE.

What book or books are you most looking forward to for this week? There were so many coming out that it was almost too many, if that makes any sense.

Cover Lover – 9 New Titles

I have been a bit slack on the cover department lately, and I nabbed these first five from All Things Urban Fantasy‘s Cover Post.  The cover for Kady Cross‘s third Steampunk Chronicles book, The Girl with the Iron Touch, just came out.  The book will be available on May 21st.

the girl with the iron touch

This next one is the first book from the Hex Hall Spin-off series from Rachel HawkinsSchool Spirits will be released on May 14th.

school spirits

Still from ATUF comes this third cover.  Star Cursed is the second book in the Cahill Witch Chronicles from Jessica Spotswood, and it will be released on June 18th.

star cursed

Kendare Blake will be starting a new series next September with the release of the first book, Antigoddess.

Good Lord…holy crap-awful photoshopping!  This one is from Jaime Rush and her Offspring series, called The End of Darkness.  It is scheduled for release in January, according to Goodreads.  This is not the cover you want to wrap up your series with, that is for sure.

the end of darkness

This next one is from my favorite hit-or-miss author, Christine WarrenHungry Like a Wolf will be the last of her re-written Others books, bringing the series up to date.  Look for this one on June 25th.

hungry like a wilf

This next one from Amanda Ashley reminds me of the old historical romances I used to read years ago.  As Twilight Falls will be released on May 7th.

as twilight falls

Rising Darkness is the tile of the first book in a new series from Thea Harrison.  It will be available on April 2nd.

rising darkness

And this final one is from Shannon K. Butcher‘s Sentinel Wars series.  Falling Blind will be released next April 2nd.

falling blind

My favorite from this batch is Falling Blind.  I was hoping that this would be Grace and…damn, can’t remember his name.  Tor?  Something like that.  Anyways, I was hoping that this was their story, but Shannon is good about building up a story over the course of a couple of books.  Which one are you most looking forward to?

From the Author Pages…

Since I have quite a few separate pages for different authors, I don’t get to keep them constantly updated as I would like.  I have decided to work on them every couple of weeks, or when I get a few new things to add.  This is what I found over the last few days…

  • The pre-order links are up at Amazon for Alexandra Ivy‘s 10th Guardians of Eternity series, Darkness Avenged.  This one is Santiago and Nefri’s story, and it will be released on June 4th.  Also, there is a quick little blurb available for her contribution to the upcoming anthology, Predatory.  This is where she introduces her new Sentinels series in a novella titled Out of Control (a page has also been added for the new series).

Ph.D student Angela Locke has a crush on her sexy professor, Dr. Nikolo Bartrev.  When she learns he is actually a Sentinel with extraordinary powers, she joins forces with him to catch a psychopath.  But soon, their hottest pursuit is of each other…

  • While it looks like Alyssa Day‘s Alejandro’s Sorceress is still up in the air, next week will finally be the release of Alaric’s story, Heart of Atlantis.  She is also turning her attention to a new series called The League of the Black Swan.  I have added a page for this new series in her section (with the covers for both The Cursed and Enthralled), and it turns out that her contribution in the Enthralled anthology will also be from this new world.  So, it looks like we will get two Black Swan stories in two months (Enthralled was actually pushed back from a May 7th release to July 2nd).
  • This is me, sighing.  It seems that Cynthia Eden has started up a whole new e-book series – and I had no clue.  That is my pet peeve about e-books…all of a sudden, they are just there.  Little publicity or fanfare, they just seem to appear, and that makes them a bugger to try and keep track of.  Anyways, the new series is called Purgatory, and the first story is called The Wolf Within

FBI Special Agent Duncan McGuire spends his days–and his nights–tracking real-life monsters. Most humans aren’t aware of the vampires and werewolves that walk among them. They don’t realize the danger that they face, but Duncan knows about the horror that waits in the darkness. He hunts the monsters, and he protects the innocent. Duncan just never expects to become a monster. But after a brutal werewolf attack, Duncan begins to change…and soon he will be one of the very beasts that he has hunted.

Dr. Holly Young is supposed to help Duncan during his transition. It’s her job to keep him sane so that Duncan can continue working with the FBI’s Para Unit. But as Duncan’s beast grows stronger, the passion that she and Duncan have held carefully in check pushes to the surface. The desire that is raging between them could be a very dangerous thing…because Holly isn’t exactly human, not any longer.

As the monsters circle in, determined to take out all of the agents working at the Para Unit, Holly and Duncan will have to use their own supernatural strengths in order to survive. But as they give up more of their humanity and embrace the beasts within them both, they realize that the passion between them isn’t safe, it isn’t controllable, and their dark need may just be an obsession that could destroy them both.

  • Also on the Cynthia Eden front, the pre-order links are up at Amazon for her fourth (and final) Fallen book, Avenging Angel.  Looks like this one is due out on May 28th.
  • I am pretty sure everyone has already seen this except me, but the blurb for the next Gena Showalter Lords of the Underworld book, The Darkest Craving, has been released.  This one is scheduled for July 30th.

Having endured weeks of torture in the bowels of hell, Kane wants nothing to do with his beautiful rescuer, Josephina Aisling. The half-Fae female threatens to awaken the demon of Disaster inside him—a beast he’s determined to kill, no matter the price.

Josephina is hunted by a brutal enemy—her royal family—and Kane is her only source of protection. He’s also the only male to ever set her aflame, and even he succumbs to the heat. But as they navigate the treacherous world of the Fae, they are forced to make a choice: live apart…or die together.

  • Still on Gena Showalter, her second White Rabbit Chronicles book, called Through the Zombie Glass, will be out next September.  It will be followed by the second Otherworld Assassin book, title as yet unknown.
  • This is sort of a good news/bad news situation.  The bad news is that Kresley Cole‘s next Immortals After Dark book, MacRieve, has been pushed back from the middle of May to July 2nd.  The good news is that a small blurb has been released…

Uilleam MacRieve, a centuries-old Lykae warrior, was captured, caged, and experimented on by a shadowy human order, along with other immortals. During a prison break that devolved into one of the bloodiest massacres in recent history, he escapes. But the aftermath of his unspeakable torture preys on his damaged mind, while the wolf inside him roars for vengeance and carnage. In the days leading up to the full moon, can MacRieve rein in his beast, even when he encounters his mate—a vexingly impossible female unlike anything he’d ever dreamed for himself?

  • There aren’t many details as yet, but it appears that the Enthralled anthology featuring Lora Leigh will indeed contain a Breed story.  This is the first sign I have seen of any new Breed books, but we will still have to wait until July 2nd for it.
  • Still another good news/bad news addition.  Shannon K. Butcher‘s next Sentinal  Wars book, Falling Blind, also has been pushed back a month.  It will now be released on April 2nd of next year.  But, once again, at least we have the blurb to keep us warm…

2013 Release Dates

Now, it seems so very very odd to be finding new release dates for mid and late 2013 – but then I realize that 2012 is already half way gone.  I really didn’t see that sucker fly by, and time really does move faster the older you get.  Who knew?  Anyways, I thought I would post some of the long term release dates I have been finding…

  • Shannon K. Butcher will be releasing a new Sentinel Wars book, Falling Blind, on April 2nd.  No clue who this one is about, but I do hope for Grace and Tor.
  • Right now, Thea Harrison is finishing up her fourth (and supposedly final – for a while) Elder Races novella, Hunting Season.  2013 will see at least two full length books – Shadow Game on April 2nd, and a title TBA on November 5th.
  • The fourth Iron Seas book from Meljean Brook will be released on September 3rd, and Guardian Demon will be released on May 7th.
  • Looks like a long wait after Archangel’s Storm for the next Guild Hunter book.  Nalini Singh‘s next installment will be released on September 3rd. 2013.
  • This November, there will be an Erin McCarthy and Kathy Love anthology called The Fangover.  Well, looks like the sequel, Fangover II, will be hitting the shelves next July.
  • Night Vision, from Yasmine Galenorn, will be released on July 2nd.  It is the 4th book in her Indigo Court series.
  • And the fourth book from Keri Arthur‘s Dark Angels series, Darkness Unmasked, will be released on June 4th.
  • The as-yet untitled 5th book from Jennifer Ashley‘s Shifters Unbound series will be released on June 4th, as well.
  • Lora Leigh, Alyssa Day and Meljean Brook will be teaming up for an untitled anthology on May 7th.
  • Eternal Demon is the title of the 5th Mark of the Vampire book from Laura Wright, and it should be released on May 7th.
  • Alyssa Day will be starting a new series, The League of the Black Swan.  The first book, as yet untitled, is due out on May 7th.
  • If you are a Deadtown fan, the 5th book of the Nancy Holzner series is listed as a July 30th release.
  • The second book from Jill Archer‘s new Noon Onyx series will be released on May 28th.
  • The Sookie Stackhouse series is winding down, and it looks like Charlaine Harris‘ lucky number 13 will be called Dead Ever After.  This one should be out next May.
  • Born of Fury, part of Sherrilyn Kenyon‘s League series, will be out on April 14th.
  • And next April 14th is also the release date for a new Jane True book.  The Nicole Peeler book will be called Tempest Reborn.

Upcoming E-books

Ok.  I have bored all with my refusal to get into the whole e-book thing on a couple of different occasions.  I was feeling pretty smug about the whole thing, too, clinging to my beloved paper-and-ink books with the shiny covers.  And then sometime in the last couple of days I started to notice something that rocked the boat a bit – a few series that I follow faithfully are releasing new stories that will be available ONLY in e-format.  Huh.  That sucks.

Coming up on December 5th is A Taste of Midnight from Lara Adrian‘s Midnight Breeds series.

A shimmering holiday gala lights up an ancient castle in the Scottish Highlands, but beautiful widowed Breedmate Danika MacConn feels alone in the crowd. Even among the friends and festivity of the Darkhaven celebration, she can’t forget her lost love, a fallen warrior of the Order. Her brief return to her mate’s homeland has become treacherous after rejecting the advances of a dangerous Edinburgh crime boss with a taste for blood sport. As Danika seeks to expose the vampire and his dark trade, she discovers an unexpected ally in his forbidding, enigmatic henchman, Brannoc, a man who exudes heat, danger, and dark menace—and seems somehow achingly familiar. Bran has his own reasons for wanting to keep Dani out of his employer’s business . . . and his own secrets he means to keep buried. The last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a woman who tempts the wildest part of his Breed nature—especially when that woman is Danika MacConn, the one woman capable of bringing him to his knees.

Now, for this next one, you have to head over to Samhain Publishing.  It will be releasing an Elder Races story from Thea Harrison on December 13th, called True Colors.

Meeting your soulmate? Great. Preventing your possible murder? Even better.

Alice Clark, a Wyr and schoolteacher, has had two friends murdered in as many days, and she’s just found the body of a third. She arrives at the scene only minutes before Gideon Riehl, a wolf Wyr and current detective in the Wyr Division of Violent Crime—and, as Alice oh-so-inconveniently recognizes at first sight, her mate.

But the sudden connection Riehl and Alice feel is complicated when the murders are linked to a serial killer who last struck seven years ago, killing seven people in seven days. They have just one night before the killer strikes again. And every sign points to Alice as the next victim.

Shannon K. Butcher will be releasing an e-book from her Sentinal Wars series early next year called Bound By Vengeance.  There is a pretty nifty cover, but no other info available as yet.

Now, this next one confuses me.  Alyssa Day is supposed to be releasing a Warriors of Poseidon story in December – but there is no trace of a link as to where you can download Alejandro’s Sorceress.  And there is no info, cover blurb, nada.  Just a cover.   Strange.  And it is due out in a couple of weeks…

Now, that is not to say that I am against the e-books – I’m not.  Authors like Kresley Cole, Ilona Andrews and Jeaniene Frost are all going back and re-releasing their novellas in e-format, and I think it is great.  I would just like there to be a print option for us paper-lovers.  I don’t even mind buying an anthology just for one story – I do it all the time.   A while back, I read an interview with Christine Feehan somewhere where she talked about how print runs for romance books are down since people are buying more e-format stories, but that not printing books is forcing people to go in an electronic direction.  It seems like a catch 22, and still leaves me wondering if I just might have to take the plunge one day, after all…

Cover Lover – Dying Wish

Fresh from Shannon K. Butcher‘s newsletter is a bit of info about her next Sentinal Wars book.  Looks like this one will be Iain and Jackie.  Dying Wish is the title, and it is due out on March 6th.  This is one of those “under the radar” series that I really like, but never see much about.
