Cover Lover – 9 New Titles

Usually, when I do a cover lover post, I hope to find at least one that is a stand-out. I didn’t have much luck this time around. There isn’t anything that makes me gag, but then there isn’t much that would make me grab the book off of the shelf to read, either.

First up, we have the second book from the new Chris Marie Green Jensen Murphy, Ghost for Hire series. Another One Bites the Dust will be released on November 4th.

another one bites the dustShona Husk is up next with To Love a King, which is from her Annywn series. It is due out on October 22nd.

the young elitesWhat do you think? I think that both Talon and The Young Elites are pretty, but they gave me more of a novella cover vibe rather than the first books of much anticipated new series from two successful authors.

Cover Lover – 5 New Titles

Things have been a bit meh in terms of cover art for the last few weeks, but today I scraped together a few that I haven’t already seen all over. My favorite of the batch, unfortunately, comes from a series that I stopped reading after the first book. Wings is the third book from Elizabeth Richard‘s Black City series, and it will be released next spring.

WingsThis next one is also YA, and it is from Alyxandra Harvey‘s new Witching Season series. Stormcaster will be released on January 1st.

stormcasterThe third book of Tiffany Truitt‘s Lost Souls series, The Creators, will be released next April.

the lost soulsThere are a couple of adult covers, too. Shona Husk‘s Lord of the Hunt will be released on January 7th.

lord of the huntOk. I have to admit that I have the first three books from J.D. Robb‘s In Death series on mount TBR, but any time I even think about reading them, I hesitate. I am scared off by the sheer number of books in the series, since this next one is something like #39! Concealed In Death will be released on February 25th.

Release Day Review – Outcast Prince

Thanks once again to Doug Meeks, who sent over a review for the first book of Shona Husk‘s new Court of Annwyn series, called Outcast Prince. It was released today.

the outcast princeWhat Doug said…

Shona Husk

Caspian is a half fairy half human or changeling and Lydia is the new owner of Callaway House which has a long history (some parts are of a house of dubious morals)

Caspian has the ability to touch things and see their history and so has been hired to inspect and value the items within Callaway House.

Lydia and Caspian are on a slow but sure road to a long time romance but before that can get too far along they have to deal with a evil banished fairy and also some very dangerous dealings with the Fairy Court .

This is a book of romance, mystery and a bit of a thriller, the story is excellent but the first 4-5 chapters were very slow and had me wondering if I really wanted to read this but thankfully things picked up very nicely and became a riveting story (one I am assuming will be added to if she makes it into a series) but be assured this novel is a standalone as far as the story having a good ending.

I would have to give it a solid 4 Stars, maybe a bit more but it did not have me desperate for more as her Shadowland series did, this is great reading but that series was exceptional reading IMHO.  So it gets 4 Stars in comparison, each reader might find it a small bit more or less.

New Series Alerts…

Just one new series starting this week, from author Shona Husk. The first book of the Annwyn series is called Outcast Prince.

the outcast princeSynopsis…

Caspian Mort can feel the history in anything he touches, a gift he inherited from his father, the Crown Prince of Annwyn. Devastated over his ex-wife’s infidelity, Caspian has withdrawn from human contact except when working as an antiques dealer.

While assessing the contents of the historic Callaway House he encounters the beautiful Lydia Callaway and senses that her home is haunted by a banished fairy. But what does the dangerous exile want? Unbeknownst to Lydia, she’s the owner of the last remaining portal to Annwyn—a mirror hidden somewhere in the house. To keep Lydia safe, Caspian will have to divulge the secrets of his heritage, and risk losing his heart again.

Is this one going on your TBR pile?

February’s E-novellas…and Used E-books?

lost to the graySo, after bugging everyone about how they keep track of the ever growing e-book releases, I think I have my technique down (down-ish, maybe). I am not even going to attempt to list all of the PNR, UF and YA digital books being released, but I do hope to get a handle on the novellas that are coming for the popular print series (and some of the better known authors). I ended up using a couple of different sources and searches (thanks for the ideas, everone). This is what I came up for in February…

February 5th

February 12th

  • Kerrelyn Sparks, Pamela Palmer, Amanda Arista, Kim FalconerVampires Gone Wild (Love at Stake #13.5, Vamp City #1.5)

February 18th

February 25th

February 26th

So, what did I miss? If you can think of any novellas that I skipped, feel free to list them here.

And, on a related note, I saw a little article over on Publisher’s Weekly that had me scratching my head. It looks like Amazon has plans…to sell used e-books. Huh?

Amazon’s business model has long been dependent on resellers of used books and other merchandise. But a U.S. patent that Amazon Technologies in Reno, Nev., received last week indicates that the mega-retailer has its sights on digital resale, including used e-books and audio downloads. According to the abstract, Amazon will be able to create a secondary market for used digital objects purchased from an original vendor by a user and stored in a user’s personalized data store.

Boston-based ReDigi opened the first marketplace for pre-owned digital music, which it launched in late 2011, Once a lawsuit that Capitol Records filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan over the way it handles music downloads is behind it, ReDigi plans to expand into e-books and other digital items. In a press release issued yesterday, ReDigi commented that “the Amazon patent is further proof that the secondary market is the future of the digital space and that there is no turning back.”

I must admit, this seems strange to me. I guess there is a market for everything, though (and Amazon pretty much covers it all).

Guest Review – For the Love of a Goblin Warrior

Many thanks once again to Douglas Meeks, who did a review of yet another book that has been on my radar but never made the jump to my TBR pile.  Always with the “someday”.  Anyways, this time around Doug has done a review for For the Love of a Goblin Warrior, the third and final book of the Shadowlands trilogy by Shona Husk.

Reading Order for Shadowlands Series

#0.5 The Summons (FREE on both Amazon and B&N)

#1 The Goblin King

#2 Kiss of the Goblin Prince

Centuries ago, Meryn was thought to be utterly lost–all traces of his soul given up to the ravening goblin horde. But with the curse that enslaved him now broken, he must once again learn to walk in the realm of men.

Nurse Nadine Gilbert likes working the night shift to avoid her disturbing dreams, but her mysterious new patient looks hauntingly familiar. Meryn knows he doesn’t deserve a second chance, but Nadine brings out his long-buried human side. Telling her the truth about his violent past could destroy their fragile trust. Could she ever believe in the love of a Goblin Warrior?

Let me mention that I have not read the first books of this series (by accident) since I did not realize that this was the third (and last) book in the series BUT it turns out it made little difference in my reading enjoyment and this book can be read standalone BUT it would not be my recommendation since I intend to back up and read the others since the stories alluded to sound exceptionally interesting (and reading the final chapter has never been something I intentionally do).

Meryn has been under a curse for about 2000 years that turned him into a goblin warrior and somehow the curse has been broken (you will find out) and now he is a human once more with the mind of a 2000 year old Celtic warrior. He has some catching up to do and a huge weight of sorrow that is almost crushing him is somehow lifted a bit when he accidentally meets our heroine Nurse Nadine Gilbert who has her own depressing baggage.

This story is much less about goblins and more about how two people who desperately need each other hopefully end up in a relationship both keep avoiding. You won’t get any swordplay, almost no violence but a slow burn romance between 2 damaged people who unknowingly are the solution to each other’s future. This book is mostly character driven and if had not been so well written it would have been boring but you get caught up in the couple’s lives and struggles with their past. This is a well written romance and so don’t start reading and expect an action filled epic. This is the final chapter in a centuries old story of love, betrayal and loyalty.

4+ Stars and maybe a bit more depending on your mood, this is a good story about two people that need to find love in their lives. It is also a story that wraps up threads from previous novels in the series and friendship that held true over the ages and through a terrible curse. I can say that this one caught my interest enough I plan to buy the previous books in the series.

Has anyone else tried this trilogy?  Like I said, I have been meaning to, but never quite gotten there.

New Series Alerts…

Another Monday, another couple of new series to highlight.  Or, rather, a couple new series, and one return to the beginning.  October 1st sees the start of the print run for Sara Humphreys‘ Amoveo Legacy with the release of Unleashed.

A fresh, exciting take on shape-shifters, which is one of the hottest areas of paranormal romance, this debut was originally self-published in a limited edition and was a word-of-mouth sensation for booksellers in a major national book chain.

The acclaimed and highly original world-building of Sara Taney Humphreys introduces the Amoveo race– beautiful, strong shape-shifters who live secretly among humans and are threatened by outside forces as well as enemies from within. After endless searching, Malcolm has found his mate, Samantha, but she doesn’t know who she really is and won’t believe it when he tells her…

It will be followed by Untouched on April 1st.

New series number two is a nice change from the weres and vamps.  The Goblin King is the first book from Shona Husk‘s Goblin series, starting on October 1st.

Cursed by a Druid millennia ago, Roan lives a bleak existence in the Shadowlands, desperately trying to retain his soul and not succumb to the goblin horde. When a beautiful human summons him to grant a wish, he sees a glimmer of hope. But will she ever agree to be his queen?

There will be at least two more books – Kiss of the Goblin Prince, and For the Love of a Goblin Warrior.

Been waiting to get my hands on this one for a while.  A Touch of Crimson is the new one from Sylvia Day, featuring a whole crew of powerful, deadly Renegade Angels.

Adrian Mitchell is an angel of immense power and insatiable desire. Leading an elite Special Ops unit of the Seraphim, his task is to punish the Fallen—angels who have become vampires—and command a restless pack of indentured lycans.

But Adrian has suffered his own punishment for becoming involved with mortals—losing the woman he loves again and again. Now, after nearly two hundred years, he has found her—Shadoe, her soul once more inhabiting a new body with no memory of him. Only this time he won’t let her go.

With no memory of her past as Shadoe, Lindsay Gibson only knows she can’t help being fiercely attracted to the smoldering, seductive male who crosses her path. Swept into a dangerous world of tumultuous passion and preternatural conflict, Lindsay is soon caught in the middle between her angel lover, her vampire father, and a full-blown lycan revolt. There’s more at stake than her love and her life—this time she could lose her very soul…

Look for the follow-up, A Hunger So Wild, early next year.

And finally, J.R. Ward‘s early Black Dagger Brotherhood books are in the process of being re-released in hardcover Collector’s Edition format, starting with the book that started it all, Dark Lover.  I was so hoping for this to happen, so this makes me a happy, happy girl.

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing their enemies-the lessers-more than Wrath, the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed, leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate, Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.
