New Series Alerts…

You know, there really are better ways of spending one of your vacation days than sitting at the place you work for four hours for a heating repairman to show up.  In the cold.  Did I mention that it is also a “favor”, so therefore free?  That is the joys of being the “favorite” employee.  Ok, whine session over.

I opened up the January New Releases page expecting to see a whack of new series starting up for this week.  Not sure why, maybe because it is the first full week of the new year, but I was very wrong.  In fact, there is only one newbie – Crash from Lisa McMann.  It is the first book of her Visions series, and I have been looking forward to this one.

Jules lives with her family above their restaurant, which means she smells like pizza most of the time and drives their double-meatball-shaped food truck to school. It’s not a recipe for popularity, but she can handle that.

What she can’t handle is the vision. Over and over, Jules sees a careening truck hit a building and explode… and nine body bags in the snow.

She has no idea why this is happening to her or if she’s going crazy. It hardly matters, because the visions are everywhere–on billboards, television screens, windows–and she’s the only one who can see them.

But it’s not until the vision starts coming more frequently, and revealing more clues, that Jules knows what she has to do. Because now she can see the face in one of the body bags, and it’s someone she knows. Someone she’s been in love with for as long as she can remember.

Visions reading list can be found HERE

There are also two stand alone releases this week.  I haven’t heard much about this one, Doomed, from Tracy Deebs, but it looks like a high-tech Tron-type story.

When seventeen-year-old Pandora Walker opens an email attachment, she uploads the most frightening worm ever invented—and in doing so, brings about total technological Armageddon. Everything from the internet to communications to utilities collapses and suddenly Pandora finds herself on the run from Homeland Security, the FBI and every police department in the country, all of whom blame her for the technological wasteland sweeping across the U.S.. With the help of stepbrothers Eli and Theo, her neighbors and the two hottest guys in school– plus codes encrypted in a world famous MMO– she sets out on a real life scavenger hunt that only she can solve. A scavenger hunt that pits her against one of the most brilliant men in the world—the maker of the Pandora worm. Her father. Only by unraveling the clues left by him in the MMO, and in real-world places around the U.S., can they hope to beat the clock ticking the days off until the entire planet is Doomed.

I have been seeing a lot of good early reviews around for Paper Valentine from Brenna Yovanoff, which seems to be a pretty strong paranormal thriller.

paper valentineSynopsis…

The city of Ludlow is gripped by the hottest July on record.  The asphalt is melting, the birds are dying, petty crime is on the rise, and someone in Hannah Wagnor’s peaceful suburban community is killing girls.

For Hannah, the summer is a complicated one.  Her best friend Lillian died six months ago, and Hannah just wants her life to go back to normal. But how can things be normal when Lillian’s ghost is haunting her bedroom, pushing her to investigate the mysterious string of murders?  Hannah’s just trying to understand why her friend self-destructed, and where she fits now that Lillian isn’t there to save her a place among the social elite. And she must stop thinking about Finny Boone, the big, enigmatic delinquent whose main hobbies seem to include petty larceny and surprising acts of kindness.

With the entire city in a panic, Hannah soon finds herself drawn into a world of ghost girls and horrifying secrets.  She realizes that only by confronting the Valentine Killer will she be able move on with her life—and it’s up to her to put together the pieces before he strikes again.

So, a bit of a quiet week that will hopefully let me get caught up a bit more.  Although I do have Crash on the TBR pile….and reviews have been so good for Paper Valentine…

Cover Lover – 4 New Titles

Wow, what a totally crap last few days to find anything new to post.  Seems like just a bad time of year for covers and release info, but hopefully that will turn around next month.  There are just four little covers to show this time…

This first one is from Alexandra Ivy and her re-released Immortal Rogues series.  My Lord Immortality is the third and final book, due out on December 31st.

Not sure I am feeling this one.  Tracy Deebs has released the cover for Doomed, a high-tech Pandora’s box tale, which is due out on January 8th.

Over on her blog, Angie Fox has released the cover for the second book in her Monster M*A*S*H series (which I had never heard of before).  Immortally Embraced will be released on February 26th.

And finally, this is the cover for Unbound.  It is the Angela Knight, Jennifer Ashley, Jean Johnson and Hanna Martine anthology due out on March 5th (there is also another anthology of the same name that came out in 2009 that featured Jeaniene Frost and Kim Harrison, but this is an all new release).
