Cover Lover – Rule Breaker and Friends…

Covers, covers, covers. Looks like there are 6 newish ones for this post, both adult and young adult. Lora Leigh‘s Rule Breaker, the first of the Breeds books to come out in hardcover, will be released on February 4th.

the taking
So, what are your thoughts on this bunch? I was hoping the changed over to hardcover would mean a new design for The Breeds books, but I guess not. I have seen worse ones, but I am not a big fan of the erased/covered head shots. I don’t mind the cut off head, but the erased head just looks weird. The Shatter Me covers are all very eye catching (uh, no pun intended), but the other two YA don’t really stand out much for me.

This Week in E-books…

I wasn’t expecting much in the way of e-releases this week. Not sure why – maybe because it has seemed like the last couple of weeks have been quiet on that score. Looks like they made up for it this time, though.

This first one is Taken by the Vampire King from Laura Kaye. It is a Nocturne Cravings release.

taken by the vampire kingSynopsis…

Henrik Magnusson is supposed to be immortal, but a mysterious ailment leaves the vampire king near death, and not even the blood of the Proffered, human virgins trained to serve the elite, can sustain him. Then he rescues a beautiful young woman from his enemies, and is filled with blood lust and desire he hasn’t felt for centuries.

Photographer Kaira Sorenson’s life takes a nightmare turn when she’s attacked by blood-thirsty creatures—and saved by a vampire. She should be afraid of Henrik, but she can’t deny her intense attraction to this regal, enigmatic being—nor the fact that her blood may be his only salvation. Now she must decide if she’s willing to be his forever…

Also from Nocturne Cravings is The Demon’s Forbidden Passion by Zoey Williams.

the demon's forbidden passionSynopsis…

A battle rages within Ethan Phillips. By day, he’s a sexy firefighter saving lives in his community. At night, he’s a half-demon enraptured by carnal desire. And on this night, after a harrowing rescue dredges up memories of his tragic past, Ethan’s hunger is stronger than ever.

After turning to Tina Driscoll for one night of passionate release, he tries to keep his distance. He knows the curse that followed him into adulthood will mean dire consequences for the gentle, compassionate nurse. But each time he tries to tear himself away, the flames erupting between them only intensify….

This one is a novella from the St. Croix Chronicles by Karina Cooper, called The Mysterious Case of Mr. Strangeway.

strangewaySynopsis…

Although I have only been part of Society for two years, I am already desperate to escape its confines and eager for adventure. The world my deceased parents have left me is nothing more than a gilded prison, and I will do anything to escape the boredom, even become a collector of bounties.

My name is Cherry St. Croix, and I may be young, but I am old enough to know when I am in over my head. My first collection seemed easy: Mr. Strangeway’s debts have come due, and the purse for his capture is hefty. Yet the wastrel remains one step ahead of me, and my efforts are hampered by another collector after the same coin. What’s more, a simple hunt becomes the forefront of a conspiracy that leads me on a chase through London’s low-class streets.

Not only does my pride demand success, but the well-being of many rest upon the choices I make—failure is not an outcome I can live with.

And also heading our way this week is Zoe Archer‘s Skies of Gold, which is part of her Ether Chronicles series.

skies of goldSynopsis…

Two Lonely Hearts…

Kalindi MacNeil survived the devastating enemy airship attack that obliterated Liverpool, but even her engineering skills can’t seem to repair her broken heart. Seeking to put her life back together, Kali retreats to a desolate, deserted island—only to discover she’s not alone. Captain Fletcher Adams, an elite man/machine hybrid, a Man O’ War, crashed his battle-damaged airship into this deserted island after Liverpool, never expecting to survive the wreck. But survive he did.

One Desire…

Believing he is nothing but a living weapon, Fletcher is wary of his new-found companion—a pretty, damaged, but determined young woman. Together they are stranded on the deserted island, and it is only a matter of time until desire gets the best of both of them. Soon Kali and Fletcher find they may be just what the other needed. But a danger from beyond the island puts them to the test. Will it rip them apart or bond their hearts forever?

I haven’t seen much about this Katie MacAlister series for some reason. Time Crossed is a novella from her Time Thief series.

time crossedSynopsis…

Stealing time. Cheating death. Breaking hearts. Gregory Faa is an Otherworldly man on a mission in the new Time Thief short story from New York Times bestselling author Katie MacAlister.

Gwenhwyfar Byron Owens is a Wiccan on the edge—of the law. With two mothers who excel on breaking the rules of the Otherworld’s Watch, Gwen is used to dealing with their troublesome situations. But when she’s snatched from the jaws of death itself, it’s not her moms who give her grief, it’s the drop-dead gorgeous man who saved her life.

Traveller Gregory Faa may be many things—time stealer, outlier, troublemaker—but there’s one thing he isn’t: hip to the fact that death has very little patience with people who don’t die when they’re supposed to.

And finally for this week we have Lolita Lopez‘s Dead Sexy Dragon , which is the first title from her new e-book series called Dragon Heat.

dead sexy dragonSynopsis…

The last thing dragon shifter Stig Wyvern needs is his dead friend’s kid sister showing up on his doorstep. He’s just minutes away from entering a mating phase. Sharing his isolated house with the young woman he’s desperately lusted after for quite some time is a recipe for disaster.

But Cora Cardenas has nowhere else to go. She’s in deep trouble with some really nasty people and Stig is the only one who can protect her. That he’s deliciously sexy and makes her tingle with the simplest of smiles is just a bonus.

Cora quickly realizes Stig is hiding something from her. To make matters worse, she’s plagued with breathtakingly naughty dreams starring a shadowed lover who bears a startling resemblance to her host. And just what the hell is going on down in the basement at night?

Stig needs to get Cora out of his house but his inner beast has other ideas. He’s found his mate and she’s not going anywhere…

Anything you just have to have from this batch? How has the Time Thief series been, since like I say I haven’t heard much about it at all. I am thinking about breaking the e-ban and getting Dead Sexy Dragon – hopefully when my I-pad comes.

New Series Alerts…

It looks like this week is the grand debut for three new series. This first new series from Zoe Archer is called Nemesis Unlimited, and the first book is called Sweet Revenge.

sweet revengeSynopsis…

When Jack Dalton escapes from Dunmoor Prison, he has only one thing in mind—finding the nobleman who murdered his sister and making him pay. But when he reaches the inn where the Lord Rockley is rumored to be staying, three well-dressed strangers are there to meet him instead. And the pretty blonde is aiming a pistol right at his head …

Joining Nemesis, Unlimited has made Eva Warrick much more than the well-mannered lady she appears to be—one who can shoot, fight, and outsmart any man in the quest to right the injustices so often suffered by the innocent. She’s not afraid of the burly escaped convict, but she is startled by their shared attraction. She and her partners need Jack’s help to get to Rockley, but Eva finds she wants Jack for scandalous reasons all her own…

New series number two is from Cat Devon. The Entity series gets its start with Sleeping With the Entity. It sounds like fun.

sleeping with the entitySynopsis…

She has a sweet tooth and a dream.

Meet Daniella Delaney. She’s all ready to open her shop, Heavenly Cupcakes, in one of Chicago’s sleepier districts. But she’s having a hard time convincing the local business association—namely Nick St. George—that she’s a good addition to the neighborhood. Daniella hopes that her famous red velvet cupcakes will be enough to melt any man’s heart. But Nick is no ordinary man. He’s got fangs.

He has a constant craving…

As leader of the Vamptown clan, Nick has no intention of letting Daniella breathe new life into his old haunts. But something about her leaves Nick hungry…for more. He can’t control her mind like other humans, a trait that makes Daniella irresistible. Could it be that, for the first time in centuries, Nick has met his match? Love is always a force to be reckoned with. But can this vampire have his cake and eat it too?

And Richelle Mead‘s new Gameboard of the Gods is the first book of her Age of X series. Known for her YA Vampire Academy series, this one sees her dive back into an adult set of books.

gameboard of the godsSynopsis…

In a futuristic world nearly destroyed by religious extremists, Justin March lives in exile after failing in his job as an investigator of religious groups and supernatural claims. But Justin is given a second chance when Mae Koskinen comes to bring him back to the Republic of United North America (RUNA). Raised in an aristocratic caste, Mae is now a member of the military’s most elite and terrifying tier, a soldier with enhanced reflexes and skills.

When Justin and Mae are assigned to work together to solve a string of ritualistic murders, they soon realize that their discoveries have exposed them to terrible danger. As their investigation races forward, unknown enemies and powers greater than they can imagine are gathering in the shadows, ready to reclaim the world in which humans are merely game pieces on their board.

Gameboard of the Gods, the first installment of Richelle Mead’s Age of X series, will have all the elements that have made her YA Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series such megasuccesses: sexy, irresistible characters; romantic and mythological intrigue; and relentless action and suspense.

What are you interested in? I pre-ordered Sleeping With the Entity a while back, since I thought it sounded like fun. I had also pre-ordered Gameboard of the Gods, but actually ended up cancelling it when I read some less than stellar reviews. I think I will wait a while to see how reaction to this one is before I buy. I wasn’t particularly drawn in by the blurb, but I was buying it based on it being a Richelle Mead book. I figure if you have to talk yourself into buying it, you should hold off.

New Release Dates…

So, it is that time again, and I am starting an author-by-author update. So far, I have only the A’s and B’s done, but it still offered up a few books to be added to the New Release pages.

  • Jus Accardo starts up a new YA series called The Darker Agency with the release of Darker Days this August.
  • Midnight Breed #12 from author Lara Adrian, Crave the Night, will be released this December.
  • June 2014 will see the release of Brooklyn Ann‘s third Bite book, A Bite at First Sight.
  • Zoe Archer‘s second Nemesis Unlimited book, Dangerous Seduction, will be out on November 26th.
  • Evertrue, the third book of Brodi Ashton‘s Everneath trilogy, will be out next January.
  • Jenn Bennett is starting up a new series next year called Bitter Spirits. The first book (also called Bitter Spirits) is due out next January, and it will be followed by Grim Shadows next June.
  • Nina Berry‘s third Otherkin book, Othersphere, will be released on December 31st.
  • Anne Bishop‘s second The Others book, Murder of Crows, will not be out until next March. Booo.
  • I thought that Cheryl Brooks‘ Cat Star Chronicles series was done, but it looks like book 10 will be called Renegade, and it is scheduled for next July.

Cover Lover – 6 New Titles

Still playing around with the new theme (God, I hate choosing fonts with an endless passion). I just have to figure out how to turn the link hover color to blue. Maybe. I took a break from playing with the site to find 6 new covers (or new to me, as it were).

From what I understand, Nancy Gideon‘s Moonlight series is now strictly released in e-format, so this is the digital cover for the 8th title, Prince of Shadows, which is released on May 27th.

prince of shadows

This second cover is also for a digital release. Here There Be Monsters is part of Meljean Brooks‘ Iron Seas series, and it was first released in the Burning Up anthology in 2010. It will be re-released in e-format this October.

here there be monsters

Desert Tales from Melissa Marr is set in the same world as her YA Wicked Lovely series, but I am not really sure how closely it is connected. It will be released on October 8th.

desert tales

Tammy Falkner‘s third Faerie book, The Magic Between Us, will be released on January 7th of next year. I really thought these were historical romance – until I saw the series title. Who knew?

the magic between us

Zoe Archer‘s second Nemesis Unlimited book has a cover and a release date. Dangerous Seduction will be out on November 26th.

dangerous seduction

And finally, this one could’ve been posted quite a while ago – if only I had realized that it was paranormal. For some reason, I really thought that these Shiloh Walker‘s books were straight romantic suspense, but it turns out there is a PNR element to them, too. So, this one is the cover for the fourth book in the FBI Psychics series, The Protected, which is due out on September 3rd.the protected

Cover Lover – 7 New Titles

There are a few good covers starting to head our way recently, like this pretty one from Kelley ArmstrongOmens is the first book in the Cainesville series, due out on August 20th.

Sweet Revenge is the first book of Zoe Archer‘s upcoming Nemesis Unlimited series, which will be released on June 4th.

There are a few new young adult covers coming out too.  This first one is A Darkness Strange and Lovely, from author Susan Dennard, and her Something Strange and Deadly series.  Look for it on July 23rd.

I thought this one was pretty.  Goddess is the third and final book in the Starcrossed series from Josephine Angelini, due out on May 28th.

Wendy Higgins‘ next book, Sweet Peril, will be released on April 30th.  It is the second book of her Sweet trilogy.

Elizabeth Norris is in the process of having her Unraveling series adapted for television, but for now we have the cover for the second book.  Unbreakable is due out on April 23rd.

And finally, we have the cover for Elegy, which is part of the Hereafter series from Tara Hudson.  Look for it on June 4th.

Cover Lover – 10 New Titles

Time for another cover lover post.  This first one is from author Laura Powell and her Burn Mark series.  Witch Fire will be released in hardcover on May 28th.

Well, it looks like this is the end for Sookie and Bill.  And Eric (not handling that part well, though).  Dead Ever After is the final book in the Sookie Stackhouse series from Charlaine Harris, and it will be released on May 7th.

The cover is out for the next book in Sandra Hill‘s Deadly Angels series.  Kiss of Temptation will hit the shelves on March 26th.

I do believe that Dianne Sylvan holds the distinction of being the author with the biggest negative reaction I have ever heard after the release of her last book in the Shadow World series.  Looks like the series is still going on, since Of Shadow Born will be released on March 26th.

Ooooh, Wolf With Benefits!  This next Pride book from Shelly Laurenston will be released on March 26th, and will feature Ricky Lee…and one of those pesky jackals.

To tell the truth, I really didn’t notice a difference between this cover for Sinner’s Heart and the previous book in Zoe Archer‘s Hellraisers series, but at least they have the same theme going.  This one will be out on April 2nd.

I have been trying to track down some info on this author since I first saw these over at Amazon, but no luck yet.  I do know that these next two covers from Cat Devon are part of a vampire trilogy, with Sleeping With the Entity being released on June 4th…

…and The Entity Within quickly following on June 25th.  Has anyone else heard anything about these books or this author?

From the young adult side, I loved the cover for the first book in Jessica Shirvington‘s Violet Eden series, but the last two haven’t quite caught my eye as much.  They are pretty, but they don’t give me the same YA vibe that the first one did.   This is the cover for the third book, Emblaze, which will be released on March 1st.

And finally, the cover for the second book in Amanda Hocking‘s Watersong series is out.  Tidal will be released on April 16th.

Random Updates…

A little bit of this…a little bit of that.

  • There will be a fourth book in the Dark Dynasties series from Kendra Leigh CastleImmortal Craving will be released on January 29th.
  • The Underworld Detection Agency Chronicles series from Hannah Jayne will also have a fourth book released.  Under the Gun is due out on February 5th.
  • March 26th is the release date for Jennifer Estep‘s Deadly Sting, part of her Elemental Assassin series.
  • The third book from Sandra Hill‘s Deadly Angels series will be called Kiss of Temptation, and it is also due out on March 26th.
  • Jenna Black‘s third Nikki Black book, Rogue Descendant, will be released on April 30th.
  • April 30th is also the release date for Delilah S. Dawson‘s second Blud novel, Wicked as She Wants.
  • Sinner’s Heart from Zoe Archer will be hitting the shelves on April 2nd.
  • The second book from Julie Kagawa‘s Blood of Eden series, The Eternity Cure, is due out next May.
  • August 2013 will see the start up of a new series from Angela Knight called Familiar.  No other details available as yet.
  • The oft-delayed Warriors of Poseidon novella, Alejandro’s Sorceress, is now completely MIA.  Seems like Alyssa Day decided to do a total re-write and start basically from scratch, so new release details are sketchy.
  • Also, there has been a change in the scheduled Beginnings of Magic by Ilona Andrews.  Instead of being compilation of the first two Kate Daniels books, it will now be a special edition re-print of Magic Bites.  The cover copy says “This special edition includes in-depth information about the world of Kate Daniels, with descriptions of its characters and factions. Explore Kate’s Atlanta like never before with answers to FAQ and a quiz to find your place there. And don’t miss the prequel story “A Questionable Client,” as well as scenes of events in Magic Bites from Curran’s point of view.”  It is now called Magic Bites: A Special Edition of the First Kate Daniels Novel.

New Series Alert

The middle of the month is not the best new release time, so this week there is only one new series to highlight.  Skies of Fire, the first book from Zoe Archer‘s The Ether Chronicles, will be hitting the shelves tomorrow.

Synopsis…

Man made of metal and flesh

Captain Christopher Redmond has just one weakness: the alluring spy who loved and left him years before…when he was still just a man. Now he’s superhuman—a Man O’ War, made as part of the British Navy’s weapons program—and his responsibility is to protect the skies of Europe. If only he could forget Louisa Shaw.

A most inconvenient desire

Louisa, a British Naval Intelligence agent, has never left a job undone. But when her assignment is compromised, the one man who can help her complete her mission is also the only man ever to tempt her body and heart. As burning skies loom and passion ignites, Louisa and Christopher must slip behind enemy lines if they are to deliver a devastating strike against their foe . . . and still get out alive.

New Series Alerts…

December is a pretty slow release month for me, but there are a few interesting ones kicking off this week.  Author Zoe Archer fires up the Hellraisers with the release of Devil’s Kiss.

Synopsis…

1762. James Sherbourne, Earl of Whitney, is a gambling man. Not for the money. But for the thrill, the danger—and the company: Whit has become one of the infamous Hellraisers, losing himself in the chase for adventure and pleasure with his four closest friends.

Which was how Whit found himself in a gypsy encampment, betting against a lovely Romani girl. Zora Grey’s smoky voice and sharp tongue entrance Whit nearly as much as her clever hands—watching them handle cards inspires thoughts of another kind…

Zora can’t explain her attraction to the careless blue-eyed Whit. She also can’t stop him and his Hellraisers from a fiendish curse: the power to grant their own hearts’ desires, to chase their pleasures from the merely debauched to the truly diabolical. And if Zora can’t save Whit, she still has to escape him…

It will be followed by Demon’s Bride in May, and Sinner’s Heart after that.

The second title is from Amanda BonillaShaedes of Gray is the first book of the new Shaede Assassin series.

Synopsis…

For nearly a century, Darian has lived in the shadows. Made and abandoned by her once true love, Azriel, she is a Shaede. Her ability to become one with the dark, coupled with her jaded heart has made her the perfect assassin. Taking out the bad guy is a better reward than the money she’s paid to do her job. And she does it well.

When her seductive employer, Tyler, sends her on a routine hit, Darian is shocked to discover not only another Shaede, but Xander Peck, the charming, albeit over-confident King of the Shaede Nation. Xander draws her into his dark realm for one reason: find and kill the man who set her adrift in the world. Darian can’t help but wonder if she’s finally taken on a job too big, even for her. As her role in awakening an ancient evil is revealed, she’s forced to face who she was, who she is, and what she might become. Can she be the killer she’s convinced herself she is while holding on to the one part of her that’s still human—her heart and her ability to love?

Book two will be called Blood Before Sunrise, due out on July 3rd.

And finally, Tami Dane debuts the first book of her Sloane Skye series this week with the release of Blood of Eden.

Synopsis…

Twenty year old Graduate student Sloan Skye dreamed of being a criminal profiler since she watched her first episode of Criminal Minds. When she steps into the FBI Academy for a summer internship, she’s closer to reaching that goal…until everything goes wrong.

Instead of working with the Behavioral Analysis Unit, learning how to profile rapists and arsonists, she’s stuck in the Paranormal Behavioral Analysis Unit, chasing an immortal killer with a taste for blood.

She’s going to need a lot more than a Glock and some holy water to make it through the summer alive.

There will be at least two more books, with Blood of Innocence due out on June 5th.
