The Others Character Guide

Namid was the creator of life, and one of the greatest of those creations was the Terra Indigene, or the Earth Natives. The Terra Indigene take many forms, with varying degrees of power, and they both own and control most of the world. They exist in a state of tenuous peace with the humans that depend on the resources they control…but peace is a fragile thing. Especially when the Terra Indigene consider humans little more than prey.

 – Reading List –

– Shifters –

In this alternate world, shifters are one of the most ‘common” of the Terra Indigene, but no matter how human they appear they are very much animal in nature, instinct, and behavior. The different species are classified by “gard” – i.e Wolfgard, Owlgard, Hawkgard, etc.

– Sanguinati –

The Sanguinati are blood drinkers who are able to take the form of smoke. They are what the humans would call vampire – cold, elegant, and deadly. Their smoke form can engulf their prey, and they can draw blood with just a touch. The Sanguinati are not the romanticized vampires of human fiction, but are in fact highly efficient killers who always protect their own.

– The Elementals –

While the shifters and the Sanguinati are the reluctant public face of “The Others”, the beings who live behind the walls of the Courtyards are the true powers of the Terra Indigene. Named for the elements and the seasons they control, they have the power to shape – or destroy – the world.

– Cassandra Sangue –

The mysterious Cassandra Sangue – or Blood Prophets – are not quite human, and not quite Other. These young women have visions in their very blood, and experience visions through the cutting of their skin. As incredibly valuable commodities, they are held hospital like compounds where there every move, thought and action is controlled by others. However, the very powers that make them so valuable can also lead them down the path of insanity, and eventual death. Also known as the Sweet Blood, they retain the purity of heart like a child. It is believed they are descendants of the Intuits.

– Intuits –

Although considered mostly human, the Intuits have enhanced instincts that lead them to have a sense of knowing in certain situations. Their enhanced abilities have made them hated targets of humans in the past, and they have hidden among the Terra Indigene villages for protection for years. It is from this small group that the Cassandra Sangue originated, and when the plight of the Prophets became known many Intuit villages came forward to help the rescued girls.long-line
